WOW - I just sold my old gold........

I just called and am going to call fedex as soon as I ok it all with my hubby. There's a few rings in there he gave me that are all bent up and I don't wear them anymore but I better be nice and ask.

I'm debating wether or not to send my class ring from high school. What will I ever do with it really? Right? It has been in a box ever since I graduated so I might as well, right?

I also have a thin gold chain I'll send. So, that's only 4 rings and a necklace so I think I'll ask my mom if she has anything she wants to donate. I want at least $200 so I can book my trip without hubby whining the money could've been used elsewhere and I should've waited until the beginning of the year like he asked.

Cross your fingers my mom has something so I can get this trip booked!

Anyone else send very little like me? Was it worth it?

Just got my call from USGB today. I was hoping for at least $100, but thinking I would really like $200, and secretly hoping I would make more like $300-400. They offered me......drumroll please.....

I am sooooo excited!!! I was in shock. It was way above my expectations. Thanks to all you wonderful DISers who posted about your experience and gave me the courage and info I needed to try it myself!

A side note--YES send in that high school ring! I don't know of anyone who wears their high school rings after they graduate. I sent in DH's and I'm sure his was one of the big things that paid so well--because HS rings are usually pretty heavy, and guys' HS rings are *really* heavy--at least his was. I would have sent mine in but it was palladium, not gold.

I got my call today and i was offered $260.53. More Mickey money in my pocket but I was secretly hoping for more since I sent in so many pieces. Oh welll its more than I had with it just laying in a box in a drawer. I had the $ in my pay pal account within 30 min if not less!

For those of you that sent in your gold and received over $300 did you weigh it. How does it exactly work it goes by if it is 10K, 14K, 18K etc and then by the weight?

I weighed mine on a digital kitchen scale. It came in at about 1 3/8 ounces. But I had several rings with stones in them, which of course add to the total weight--so not all of that weight was pure gold. And, I do question the reliability of my scale--I'm sure it's not precise as it's just a cheapie scale.

I'm not sure, but it seems to me that they would separate out the 10k from the 14k and 18k, weigh each "category" individually, and then assess the value of each "category" and finally end up with a grand total. If you look at the charts the 14k and 18k is worth quite a bit more than the 10k per ounce.

Just got my call, $163 and change Not too bad, I only sent in 4 pieces, three necklaces (two were very fine chains, so not much gold) and a pair of small earrings. My DH had illusions of getting more, but I was thinking about $100-150 so I am happy

Just got back from my mom's house and she gave me 5 14K chains and she had some of my old rings which are only 10K but it all helps. So, I have 4 or 5 rings at 10K, the 5 chains at 14K, 2 bracelets at 14K and a baggie full of unknowns. I'm hoping for at least $200 so keep your fingers crossed for me. I just want to get my trip booked! I'd ultimately like a little more so I can give some to my mom also since some of it was hers. I have to be honest and say anything under $100 will disappoint me.
I have it scheduled for them to pick up from my job tomorrow since we ship Fed Ex and have all of the overnight packaging and the label machines and all that good stuff. Trying not to get my hopes up because I didn't even think about this until this morning but it's very hard to not wonder and get excited. I told my mom they'll probably call and ask what I'm on thinking any of the "extras" are precious metals. LOL! I guess you never know until you try! Thanks for the heads up!

does anyone know if you can send "silver plate" items along with your gold? I have 8 corn on the cob holders/prongs that aare HEAVY, and stamped silver plate that no one ever wants to use, they are pretty old too, so not sure if this is the best avenue for selling them, but thought I'd ask. I am calling tomorrow, do you get a human to talk to or just an automated instruction message?

Just sent my stuff..I told myself if it hit $1000 I would do it. Mixed emotions tho as it means the dollar is weaker still also, I held on to some stuff and all our coins...unsure of what the future holds so I think they are better in our possession for now.

Wow. Are you sure it weas all gold? I've heard of others sending alot less in and getting much more.

Yeah it was all stamped except for a few pieces i couldnt make out. I guess it just wasnt very pure 10k for example? Oh well its done now.

Yeah the chains were light. I'm just happy i have extra $$$ for my upcoming trip.

I sent a very similar variety/but smaller amount, (other than the silver plate stuff and I have absolutely no idea what that is worth if anything, they said it falls under "estate" )so we'll see. I will decline if I think the offer for everything is too low. Not sure when I will hear,the tracking for the package says it will arrive by 3pm tomorrow, so kinda late in the day. My guess is a Friday afternoon call, but if gold stays this high I imagine they are pretty busy. Will post what I hear.

CONGRATS! That is awesome...care to share what you sent in? I have to leave at 6 pm tomorrow to get DS from tennis, I hope they try my cell if I miss the call at home.

I sent mine today and just checked the tracking info and it says it will be delivered by 3 tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed but like the other poster said, trying to stay grounded. I'm sure lots of what I sent was just junk. LOL! Not all of it was tagged so I have no idea.
