WOW! Alcohol to be Served in the MK

I don't get the whole "Walt's rolling in his grave" bit. I can't remember ever seeing anyone stumbling through Epcot, Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom that was clearly under the influence. What's the big deal here? It's one sit-down restaurant serving beer & wine. Could they expand it to other sit-down restaurants at the Magic Kingdom? Possibly. But as Disney prices, who's really going to drink enough to get drunk? I just don't see this as that big of a deal...

Most people drink responsibly on vacation. Walt bought 47 square miles to control the vacation environment. He may have worried about clowns like this…….

Dang I love me some Buzzed light and Schllitz. Cant wait until they are offered more frequently in the Parks.

Only in the one restaurant, only at dinner, beer and wine - no hard liquor, and the adult beverages cannot be removed from the premises.

Whatever Walt wanted, I like Belgian beer.

no proof that either person in the videos was drunk. some people suffer from mental disabilities which could have also caused these actions.

If Disney pepper sprayed a mentally disabled person and posted the incident on you tube, it might make the news.

You know what I call this? A nice START. :)

I sure do hope they install breathalyzers at the Tomorrowland Speedway.

I see all sides to this argument and I am torn about the decision...

I drink. I have a few drinks on vacation, and I definitely don't think that one restaurant serving alcohol at one meal a day will make people run around the MK topless or even be a noticible change.

I also am definitely not on the side of "but Walt said..." because I understand that Walt Disney was an innovator and a visionary who went with the times and understood that things change.

But, I do understand the *disappointment* in this decision. Because it feels to me that it's a strictly money making decision that they are trying to play off as "making sense" due to theming. And I'm not buying that line.

So, I guess I'm not happy about it ... I'm not upset by it... I'm just "huh, this feels weird" about it

You very much summed up my feelings!

If they are going to have alcohol at MK, I sure hope they add it to the Wishes fireworks party. I would love to have a nice glass of wine or port with my desserts. Just sayin.

Disneyland Paris serves alcohol in the park and I do not hear of major issues there. Europeans in general are more relaxed about things such as alcohol, topless on the beach (Duchess Kate..) etc. than Americans.

For that matter, I do not hear of major issues at Epcot at Food and Wine either..

Walt was a heavy smoker and I remember the parks when smokers were everywhere, no "designated" smoking areas. In fact, lung cancer killed him.

My take is that serving alcohol in the MK is not horrific and probably would be enjoyed by many. I do not believe Walt would condemn it, and if anything he probably would have wanted to even keep smoking in the parks.

That being said, I have never smoked and probably will never drink alcohol in the MK myself, lol. :)

I am ambivalent about it - I truly see both sides of the issue. BUT, a PP mentioned that you don't see falling down drunks in EPCOT, DHS or AK and they all serve alcohol. Well, I disagree to a point.

Now let me clarify that I drink socially, albeit rarely anymore, and have no issues with people drinking. But the last couple of years that I have been at EPCOT some of these "Drinking Around the World" groups have started to get out of hand. For one thing, there are so many more groups than there used to be and secondly, I have never been during F&W so it's not "just" during that time of the year. Again, I'm not a puritan, but by the time these groups hit a few countries, they are starting to get loud and sometimes obnoxious. I really wish Disney would monitor that a little better.

"Drinking Around the Magic Kingdom" will be a very short sober adventure.

This decision has no impact on me or my family whatsoever. That will probably be the case for just about everyone. Let's guesstimate...

How many people in the MK on any given day eat at one specific restaurant?

What are the number of people who would dine at BOG?

What number of those people will order beer or wine?

Of those people, how many will drink to the point of noticeable excess?

One other variable is the people who have been smuggling in alcohol for years.

Another variable is the people who have already been drinking when they arrive at MK.

Another variable is how many people have an unpleasant experience with someone who has over-imbibed?

Let's just hope the revenue generated from this will result in some MK park improvements:earsboy:

Agreed. I think people are overreacting. The only thing I would consider is if it was meant to be a dry park, then keep it that way. I think more people would have an issue with that than people being drunk and ruining their visit... That's a long shot.

FINALLY! It's really been a drag having to leave the MK for a relaxing meal...with wine!
