Would you have a problem working for an "adult" company?

My husband interviewed yesterday for a company that I believe hosts adult stuff. Well they host the databases that hold the membership information and online account info...

I was curious how many people would have a problem working for a company who dealt in adult business so to speak. He doesn't have a problem with it but I was wondering if the average person would. He wouldn't even be looking at the web site persay (he does back end programming hahaha that sounds funny).

It was interesting, nothing was said about it being adult up front... he said about 1/2 through they said something (he knew upfront b/c he'd researched the web site using the guys email address (the ****.com) LOL.

not the job you are describing. I actually know someone who does something similar to what I think your DH does. He owns his own company and he swears his adult business clients are "better" than some of the more traditional clients. According to him they always have their bills paid on time, are direct in what they need and don't give him the run around.

Seriously though, I wouldn't be bothered by it, especially since he's back end ;)
I think it's more of peoples' perception that you're a pervert to want to work in the adult industry. But if you're not bothered by what people think then I don't see anything wrong with it.

People make money in all sorts of ways. I'm more bothered if it was a pedophile site or something illegal like that.

Nope I wouldn't. There is a large market for adult entertainment and most of the people who enjoy it are everyday people, not sickos or stalkers. If it paid well I wouldn't have a problem what-so-ever. Now if it was HANDS ON (LOL) we WOULD have a problem.

if it's not illegal why not

Benefits?????

If it paid well and had good benefits AND was strictly legal and only included images of consenting adults doing adult things, yes, I probably would. In fact, I'm sure there are plenty of computer geek types who do all the technical work on these sites and probably don't care for that sort of thing during their personal time.

I work for one part time.
The company I work for is very focused on education and pampering yourself in all aspects. It's not seedy or skanky at all. We've been the subject of an anthropological study and a college documentary. We're very strict about making sure no minors are present- even in the building where a party is held. I'd be willing to bet the company he's interviewing for is just as reputable.

Dangit all :D I was hoping more people would have issues... hehehee so he'd have a "better" chance.

Yes it is 110% legal... again from what I understand they do not do the designing or even upkeep of the website, just the backend, database type work. :p

He said every day they have a chef cook an entire meal for lunch... that day it was a roast beef dinner. Benefits from what he says are above and beyond a lot of jobs.... what that means I dunno. Pay is pretty good ($45,000 a year to start). Causal dress, small groups that work together on projects... I think he said 5 in this group.

He won't know until next Tuesday...

Anyways, I was just curious what the majority of people would think, going to an interview and finding out mid-way it was an adult company.

Sounds like one of the sites it hosts :earseek:

If I didn't have to look at it everyday I could probably do it. If it was in my face all of the time, there is just no way. It sounds like he wouldn't have it in his face all of the time, so if he is fine with it I guess that is what matters.

And the back end comment was very funny :earboy2:

As long as it was legal, I'd have no problems at all. Even if I was "seeing" things. I'm not a prude and everyone needs to make money somehow! And the thing that would bother me most about any illegal activity - is they don't pay taxes!

Wow, I guess I'm in the minority. I could never work for a company involved in that. No way, no how.

I wouldn't do it either. It doesn't mean I have "issues" just that there are lots of jobs I wouldn't do. I wouldn't choose to work in a bar, for example, but that doesn't mean I never drink. I would only want to work in a job where I would feel pride in talking to anyone about my work - working in the adult entertainment industry wouldn't meet that criteria for me.

If I had to do it temporarily to feed my family I can see it, but not for any other reason.

I would but I would have to be the star. No extra work for me! :snooty: :snooty:

Neither DH nor I would knowingly work for a company actively involved in the internet pornography business, even if it is legal porn. Like Skywalker said - No way, no how. I wouldn't really even want to work in a store that sold porn, but that is just me.

This will sound funny, but I don't mean for it to be. You may have a different view on porn than I have, but maybe you and your husband should take a look at what kinds of stuff the company hosts to make sure the images don't depict violence against women or other things that you might not want to be a part of. Just a suggestion :confused3. Better to find out now than later.

:earseek:  Hey now LOL

I have no problem with him taking the job, it pays well and benefits are excellent. Jobs in the computer industry are not just falling his lap....

You have to "qualify" for them first.

:faint: "Yes" I would have a serious problem working in an adult company. It would be way to embarrassing to be asked by a customer, what adult movie would you recommend. I would turn beet red instantly. I’ve never watched a adult movie. I couldn’t imagine myself selling anything that would be in a adult store, I don’t need to spell out what I’m referring to. Just use your imagination. :faint:

Yes I would have a problem. Adult websites MAY be a big market, but it's still trashy and sleazy IMO.

I can't imagine having an email that's was "@[adult websites name].com"
