Would you have a problem working for an "adult" company?

...This thread is just a little old....1st post back in Nov 2004? That was a major bump MySassy did!

Reminds me-My husband (a contractor)went to see a client who wanted to build a new facility for his company. He had no idea what the company was about,-it was named something like ":Party Time"- just that all the mans merchandise was stored in small storage buildings on the property. The man gave him a tour, to show him that he needed a large building. He went up to one building , opened the door and said "This is where all the **s*x toys** are stored. DH stared open mouthed at a gazillion *****. It was so funny, when he told me about it. :rotfl2:

I tried to get a job at a gentleman's club once. The position was only $20K a year, but I still couldn't afford to pay'em that much. :sad1:

I worked at a video duplication company in Boston. We would get the call all the time to ask if we would duplicate adult material. We elected not to as the risk was too great. You have all seen the stories of tapes getting crossed and sent out.

In the same topic, from time to time we would get the Attorney General in to have us look at tapes. You wouldn't believe how many people try to "edit" porn into a Disney movie and try to sue Disney. Yes, you can tell, and it's rather easy to prove when it's done at home and not by a duplication error.

Well, funny you should bring this up. My DH is also in the IT arena and there is a firm in my local area that is always hiring for IT professionals.

Just the other day I posted about this very issue. Apparently there is a company in my area that has a very innocent sounding PR firm name. In actuality, they are a web hoster of adult porn sites and partners with a larger conglomerate of adult stores in the area. My DH and I laughed about that if they call him for an interview, what would he say?

Yes, the adult industry is a booming and thriving industry. There is really no shortage of work, and people always want porn so to speak. If you are IT savvy, there are tons of options for working either in the web design, database, Network admin, etc...

We decided that if it was a situation where you had to feed and support your family and all other options were closed, it would be a possibility for a very short term area until a more credible offer was obtained. Because if you are in that industry for a while and try to get out, it still says on your resume that you worked for a porn industry. HR people in regular corporate environments could see you as a pervert!

As long as it wasn't something like a dating service for married people, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Maybe they sell stuff and I could get a discount. ;)

As long as it was legit, legal, didn't involve any under age material or non consensual/degrading material I wouldn't have a problem with it at all.

Violence bothers me.. adult entertainment does not... but that's just me.

Ever hear of Adam and Eve? They are in our area. You'd never know by driving by the building that its an adult business. They even do the adopt a highway thing. But they go by the name PHE which is the owners initials. All their help wanted ads are for PHE. If the pay was good enough I would work there.

Funny thing, at my last job I had to schedule interviews for jobs when the manager would give me resumes. One time they called someone in and when I looked at his resume he had listed PHE. I was ROFLOL! My manager was like "whats so funny". I explained to her exactly what PHE was. Good think I told her because she would have asked "so tell me about your last job, what did you do there?". I guess it could hurt you in future jobs if the person interviewing you knows what the company does and is offended by it.

Neither my DH nor I would work there, but we don't think that it's bad that other people would. We just wouldn't want to be involved in that kind of thing. You'd be surprised at how involved in the company you can be when you're just working with the computers. DH is an Oracle DBA/software development manager at a restaurant chain, and I'm always surprised by how involved he is with the restaurant side of things.

DH has turned down a great opportunity to create software for a chain of cassinos because we don't gamble.

Both of my grandmas worked together at a condom factory over 30 years ago and one was Catholic. Neither had any problems working for the company because the pay was good and they each had several children to help support. I would work for an adult company if the pay was nice enough. I don't have any problem with the legal stuff.

In general this kind of stuff doesn't bother me. I'm an accountant and was invited for an interview at Playboy. I passed on it solely because I didn't want to tell people that I worked at Playboy. I'm not a prude, but it's just not something I wanted to deal with.

I would've pee'd on a live sparkplug for that job....
