Would You Ground Your Daughter.....

Pete's Mom! You are too funny! I have to agree with your logic though! I am going to have to remember to do that!!!!
I did this when Pete was 3 and he had bit another child. He was so upset and embarrassed when I had him call and tell his Dad, Aunt & Uncle, and Grandpa all of whom he loves very much and has a tremendous amount of respect for. They all told him how sad and disappointed they were. It had such a strong impact and he never did it again. ;)

When I was in High school, I had hickeys often enough. They never showed. May I add that I was a virgin all through school...but still had boyfriends and secrets from Mom and Dad. High schoolers experiment...hopefully only with hickeys.
At this age, I do not like having hickeys. I don't want to go to work and have people staring at my neck. I have a wedding ring to show people "he loves me."

On a side note, I remember in high school, people were always coming up with crazy ways to get rid of hickeys. Did any of them ever work?

I remember hearing something about putting a teaspoon in the freezer, let it get good and cold, then press it up against the hickey, it was supposed to make it go away. I never tried it so I don't know if it really worked or not!

Back in December I was at a family function and my 18 yr old cousin had one on her neck..though it was well hidden(her mom pointed it out to me). So I politely took her aside and as a "big sis" I had the talk with her (her mom agreed that I should do it..since we're so close)

Hicky's aren't that big of a deal. Just b/c they have an ugly mark on their neck doesn't mean they're going to have sex. HOWEVER....I do think they need a nice long chat about the dangers of unprotected sex if they feel responsible enough to walk around with a hicky.

In my opinion your friends should sit down with their daughter and tell her that they are not happy to see the hicky...however they understand what it's like to be a teenager "in love". Then they need to openly discuss sex and the ramifications of it. So many parents forget what it's like to be young that all they do is scream. Screaming isn't going to do a darn thing except give someone a headache.

Just for the record ....I would be mortified if my DH did that to me now!!

I hadn't planned on letting DD#1 or 2 date yet when they are 15. If I do it will still be group date time. I teach HS and see a lot of what goes on and am a lot more conservative than most, I think. I see many signs of "ownership" like hickeys--the boys who have to pick the girl up at every class (or vice versa), the hands in the back pockets, etc. Sometimes that is a self-esteem issue for the GIVER of the hickey--they want everyone to know they have a girl/boy, see, I gave him/her this hickey! Please notice it while I put my hand in his/her back pocket!
It is kind of classless and I notice that many of my nicer kids think it's trashy. Come to think of it, getting kissed on the neck is nice, but who wants someone sucking on it?:earseek:

All I can say is the hickey is on the neck, right? That's a good sign. It could be someplace else and you would NEVER know.

I was going to relate an experience concerning that but on second thought....nevermind;)

For me it was something that you could feel that you did something naughty without having sex.
I remember trying to keep from laughing when the mother of the girl I was dating asked why she started buying so many turtlenecks
:teeth:
