i ahd all 4 kids at the lake one day when a lady asked me straight out if all of my kids were adopted ...... Adoption had never come up in the conversation and I had just met this woman about 15 minutes prior. I told her none of them were and has face went red and she started to apologize but I said it was no big deal.

Funny thing is my DD looks just like me, always has been a mini-me. I can almost understand wiht the rest since oldest is my step-daughter and looks nothing like me and the two small boys are dark hair, dark eyes, and noticeably "different" looking. Well, different from me anyways !

In a case like yours, I would be offended, or should I say, irritated. Simply because in this Jerry Springer world we now live in, people believe they have the right to ask ANYTHING that pops into their head, no matter how personal a question it is. They suffer from diarrhea of the mouth. If it's in their head, it spews uncontrollably out of their mouth, with no thought as to whether the question is impolite, too personal, downright rude, offensive, tasteless or plain old nosey. It's one thing to WONDER about something, but quite another to quiz someone about the matter. Seriously, what does it matter if your kids are yours biologically, by marriage, adoption, donor sperm, surrogacy or foster parenting? Why would someone feel they had the right to ask such a personal question?

MY MIL was the worst about this. She had no sense of boundaries with anyone....even perfect strangers. DH got to the point where he often looked at her and asked, "And why would you think you need to know that?" when she asked an inappropriate question. If she persisted, it changed to, "You don't need to have that information." She heard that a lot from her kids.

It doesn't bother me but people say DD looks like me when she clearly doesn't. She doesn't look like either one of us. She is more of an mixture of both. One day when were in Wal Mart and turned to go down an aisle and a man was coming out of the aisle. He looked at us and said 'woah, there's no mistaking you belong together. You two look just alike!'. I smiled and said thank you. As we walked off DD looks at me and quietly says to me 'we don't look anything alike' lol

It wouldn't bother me unless someone said something blatant like "your DD is so beautiful, she doesn't look like you at all" or vice versa lol Then I might slap someone.

When people we don't know see just myself and my kids, they say that both my kids are carbon copies of me, but when I tell them that if they saw them with just DH (not me), they would say the same thing about him and the kids, they always tell me I'm wrong. Guess I don't know what my own kids look like!!!! LOL I don't really care, I just think its funny.

Our 2 daughters have blonde hair/blue eyes. Dh and I are brown-haired with green eyes. The girls don't look much like either of us. I have 2 blonde sisters, and one brother, all have blue eyes, so the kids must be throwbacks to that side of the family. Honestly, it has never bugged me when people say the kids don't look like us--it's the truth.

I am blonde with blue eyes, my sister is brunette with brown eyes, and my brother is dark blonde with brown eyes. When my brother was a baby, a complete stranger walked up to my mother in a store and commented on how different all of us looked from another, asked which one of us was her husband's child.. Mom looked at her and said yep, one's the milkman's, one's the mailman's and one's my husbands. My sister and I spent our entire lives bickering about which of us belongs to the mailman and which the milkman, cause my brother is the spitting image of our dad (sister and I look like Mom, except for the coloring, she is brunette with green/blue eyes, she was blond as a child).

I'm 5'8" with brown hair and blue eyes, DH is 5'11" with blonde hair/blue eyes. My oldest DS looks just like me, other than having lighter brown hair and being about a foot taller. My younger DS is also blonde hair/blue eyes but at 13 is already taller than me. Everyone asks us where they get their height from. DH has always told everyone that #1 DS is the mailman's and #2 DS is the Schwann man's Both looked just like him when they were little so I always thought it was funny.

I'm not sure who my younger DS looks like other than he is the spitting image of one of my nephews. This is my 1/2 sister's youngest son. My DSis and DBIL both are brown hair/brown eyes and both of their kids are blonde/ blue. My DSIS used to get asked all the time if the boys were adopted. Her older boy is the spitting image of our Dad, so much so that it's almost scary!

When I was born there was a debate as to who I looked like. My uncle knew and informed everyone that I looked like my mother from the rear and I looked like my father from the front.

Everyone had to agree.

I often think that people see similarities in the familiar. My younger DS is a dead ringer for my DH (other than his dark blonde hair vs DH's almost black hair). Not like when DH was younger, just like DH now (and DS is only 7).

Yet, when I am with him and see someone who does not know my dh, they will say that he looks like me. Honestly, if I hadn't pushed the child out of my own body, even I wouldn't be sure he was mine! But those who know both of us well always say that he is a mini DH.

Of course, everyone but DH's mother and brother. Neither see it..have even commented that they don't see the similarities between them. Maybe MIL is trying to imply something?
