Would this bother you?

There is already one 2 mi from my house- Carowinds, a Cedar Fair park.

We used to live within walking distance of a Six Flags. UGH. If we waited too long on a weekend to go out, we couldn't get out of our complex because the road was backed up. And coming home, we had to go way out of our way or sit on the highway off ramp for 45 minutes. If we chanced going by the park itself...there was a police officer directing traffic and cones set up between lanes on the road. It never failed that some idiot would ignore the officer/cones and almost cause an accident (and I can't tell you how many times they almost hit the officer as well). There are homes directly across the street from the park and the owners would set up for cheaper parking, so people would slam on their brakes, talk to the person, then continue up the road, slam on their brakes, put on their signal and start to pull in somewhere, then suddenly decide they didn't want to park there and continue up the road (all while the car behind them was beginning to continue on, and neither of them will yield, so now you have 2 cars driving in 1 lane). And then the people that park in those private lots still have to walk to the main entrance, but heaven forbid they use the sidewalk...no, they have to walk in the road, 3-4-5 people across (usually with a small child)...

We were very happy to move away.

My point is that Legoland has millions of dollars - all those plans to enhance route 17 that have been pushed off and delayed/ignored would be quite a bit more likely to happen once the company gets involved. They have said they will work with the local government to make it happen. They need route 17 to be large enough to bring in their customers - which is a win for Goshen, because yay, improvements to Route 17!

I know the water park was pictured on the slide for the park plan, but isn't in the immediate plans, as you said. And it is a great town, but this will help with some much needed improvements that have been pushed to the wayside - Legoland has already stated they will work with the city to replace water systems that badly need updating. Local businesses will thrive and tax revenue will be great. My in laws live 2 exits down from where it is proposed to be, and they're actually fine with it.

Another good thing to think about is if Legoland doesn't move in, KJ will. Sooooo....lol. I know there are people going both ways in the decision, but it seems like so many see the benefits and are excited about it. And hey, you may get a grocery store! WOO!

Ok, when you put it like that... Legoland or KJ my vote would be Legoland!!! :rotfl2:
And I have been waiting 20 years for that grocery store! lol I would be thrilled if it actually happens now.

I'm trying to find the positives with this.

My hometown has a 6 Flags in it. One side of town gets tons of traffic.

Yes, we have one in the neighboring town as well. When it was Riverside Park there was a lot of traffic, but now it is Six Flag NE, and traffic on that side of town is ridiculous on some days. The East side of town gets a lot of the traffic issues, and our little PD pays the price at times. With that said, it is not as bad as I had thought that it would be. I do not for one minute think we are better off financially by the park, but I do not know if Agawam fares better. Yes there are seasonal jobs, but they are minimum wage jobs and offer no benefits for employees.

The plans would have to include a new road infrastructure to get people in and out. So the chaos will not just be in the area where the buildings and park are but the surrounding area for several miles. For that big of a complex they would need to be able to tie into major highways. And this will be several years in the making. From an economic standpoint it is very desirable but the disruption on the people in the surrounding 10 mile radius is likely to be significant. If the already have the land and the plans this has been in the works several years. I was a legal secretary at s firm that was working on land acquisition for the six flags outside of Chicago. We started buying up property years before the project was ever announced.

At the meeting a few nights ago in Orange County, they told everyone that it would indeed be a seasonal park - April (or may) through October - things would be closed down in the winter except for the hotel. No water park (too cold up there, lol. The season is far too short). They're only open until 8 pm during high season and 6 pm during low season.

Also, the president told everyone he would work with local government to make sure the traffic (and even water) issues were taken care of. He said (and I quote) "we don't want the neighbors unhappy with us; that would be bad for business."

Legoland is worth millions of dollars, and I have a pretty good feeling that they will expand Route 17, or at least make some major alterations to handle the traffic. Years ago Route 17 was supposed to become a part of 86, but I'm assuming that idea was scrapped or they're just dragging their feet, lol.

Ok here is my problem with this. When the casino wanted to come to Tuxedo everyone had a panic attack. Personally I would rather the casino then the current situation that is there. But tuxedo gets a ton of traffic. The traffic is already horrible. Building this in Goshen is just going to be yet another incident like Tuxedo. The people up there don't want the city folk coming up plain and simple. So yeah I think this is terrible.
I used to live there.

Trash... think about the enormous quantity of trash, and the rats that attracts. UGH. Hope there's a decent waste management plan included.

I'm local to Goshen (Minisink), and I'm on the fence about it. I read somewhere that NYS is paying for the Route 17 enhancements to lure Legoland to us. From what I've read, it's not Legoland begging to come here and promising things, it's NY begging them to come here and paying for things. Whatever, but my taxes are way high enough, where would NY get the money for Route 17? If they can keep the development out of the village of Goshen, maybe Goshen can stay the same... Won't Legoland attract people only with youngish kids? Not teens like Great Adventure?

I wouldn't like the increase in traffic, but would like the fact that it would provide jobs. Mostly low-paying jobs, but jobs.

I wouldn't mind, but we already have a casino, but I could never see a theme park wanting to come here.
