Would this bother you?

Would it bother you if a major theme park was built in your town? If it would bother you, what would be your worries and concerns?

Haha, I live in a close suburb of one of the biggest cities in the USA. A famous zoo is located in my town, literally right next to my son's high school. The South Parking Lot access road for the zoo runs between the school building and the football field.

It's a circus every day around here.

I'm so on the fence about this. The traffic will be horrible, no doubt especially since it's only a two lane highway that is already congested. This town is a rural, small, quiet town that will now have (theme park officials estimate is 2 million visitors a year) over crowding.

On the other hand, it brings a lot of jobs to the area and could help local small businesses.

I just don't know how to feel about it.

Could it compete, since Disney and Universal are two hours away?
LOL

It would end up either on the west/north sides (which have high crime rates) or the south side (where it's rapidly running out of room). The other option is to move it out towards where I am, and I don't want to deal with that kind of traffic. it's bad enough here already.

Yes, it would bother me because of the drastic increase of traffic and the strain on the infrastructure and hospitality businesses. I can't imagine my area being able to accommodate the lodging and dining needs of an extra 2 million people per year.

I would not like it at all. Working in a tourist destination is trying on the soul! lol

We have Six Flags in my town.

The good news is that it employs a lot of kids.

Other than that I don't really notice much except for some extra traffic from time to time.

I dare them to try:rotfl2::rotfl2:. If you can fit an amusement park in Boston have at it

Where is this taking place?

Before we lived here, there was Old Chicago. It was an indoor mall with an amusement park. It was about 30 years before its time. They had a hard time filling the shops so it ended up being mostly boutique type stores. This was long before Mall of America.

Ha, we had a super walmart that wanted to build close to our downtown and there was such an uproar you would have thought the sky was falling. No chance of it happening here.

The plans for the park include a water park, aquarium, & hotel besides the theme park and I believe what they called a discovery center. This is in a suburb of NY, about a little over an hour from the city.

It wouldn't bother me if it wasn't too close and the infrastructure it needed was put in place. I might even apply for a job there.

My husband is from Goshen, NY - born and raised - where they're building Legoland (supposedly), which is I'm sure, what you speak of. He lived there with his parents up until 4 years ago; they still live there, along with his brothers. I have been to Goshen and Middletown many, many times over the last 6 years. Everyone there (that we've spoken to, or heard from) is more or less excited about it. They're hoping that Legoland will cause them to get a move on with widening Route 17 and doing some much needed repairs. It will bring in new restaurants, hotels, jobs...the owner of the Goshen diner is thrilled about the potential business, lol.

I'm most excited because maybe they'll finally get a grocery store in Goshen and we won't have to drive to Middletown :rotfl2:

I live out in the middle of nowhere, 45 minutes from a stop light. The thought of anyone building a theme park in this town would be beyond inconceivable.
