Would it bother you to have grocery label soda at a party?

And, $15 savings on soda is a big deal to me. My family parties are generally 40-50 people min. If I could save $10-15 on any or all aspects of the party (drinks, food, decorations, cake, etc) I would be VERY happy!
I am the one who threw out the $15 savings not being enough for me. But I also said that our grocery stores have name brand pop on sale all the time and as another poster said, it is often cheaper than the name brand. Thus the savings would be even more than $15.

Since I know off brand soda is one of my weird quirks, I would never think twice if somebody else served it. I have eliminated all soda as I was a Diet Dr. Pepperaholic (serious, serious addiction) so I would be ecstatic if water was available. I go to parties for the people, not the food or drink. I have a hard time with people who judge others because their tastes were not met at parties. Seriously? It is the host's party. They can serve whatever they want to serve. I find it very entitled to get upset if the food or drink is not to one's taste.

:lmao:I shudder to think what he'd say after a dinner party at my place if he knew many of the ingredients were store-brand generics...I just make sure all the yellow labels are buried far down in the garbage before the guests arrive! ;)

There's a big difference in using store brand cheeses and pasta in a lasagna vs store brand soda or some condiments, like ketchup or mayo. Many store brand products have a hard time standing up to name brands on their own.

It isn't necessarily a quality thing but rather a taste preference. Many store brand products are actually made by national brand companies.

I would think it odd to save money on store brand soda vs saving money else where. Of course I wouldn't ever say anything, I wouldn't get upset, I wouldn't pass judgement. I'd just think it was odd.

We use plenty of store brand products at home, but not soft drinks. He's a soda snob.

But yeah, you'd better get rid of the incriminating evidence if you invite him. He might even smirk at French's ketchup.

What people don't know won't hurt them. ;)

Just make sure the ketchup is Heinz. Ketchup bottles on the table stick out like a sore thumb, and most generic ketchups are lacking.
Ketchup is fine for burgers and dogs. But hosts, if you are serving fries, I prefer mayo with my fries. Preferably Hellmans (or Best Foods in the west) and never that fake Miracle Whip stuff :snooty::snooty::snooty:

Are you Canadian?

I'd serve whatever you want. Your party, your choice. Sure some guests may raise an eyebrow at store brand soda, but they can drink water if they are so inclined. We use store brand stuff all the time, but for parties I usually splurge on the good stuff! I think the name brand sodas taste better, so I would not go with store brand personally.

Speaking as someone who has family who works in food warehousing & distribution - you do know that most stores make deal with name brands to supply a certain amount of name brand product under store label.

I have a friend who swears brand A is much better than store brand, ummm you do know that store brand is brand A under a different label. So some of it just tastes better is all psychological

nope. Born and raised in the US

I rib my Canadian friends for living in a nation that puts Mayo on fries, they assure me that's a myth and the majority use ketchup. Thought you were going to give me extra ammo. ;)

Sure, many store brands are made by name brand manufacturers. Sometimes it's the exact same product in both packages. Sometimes it's a different formulation. And a lot of times consumer preference is indeed psychological.

Hey, whatever floats your boat...

I would not say that it would 'bother me'.
But, OP, we are talking about .75 cents here.
And, I do think that there is a HUGE difference in a cheap, name-brand, soda from a bargain basement.
I would stick to the Spring Water that we always have with us.
Yes, I would notice, and would not think positively... But, hey, whatever!

I am the kind of person who wants to present my best when I have guests over.
And, to me, JMHO, a .75 cent savings would not change that.

I wouldn't think twice if I was invited to a party where the host served store brands. I don't go to parties just for the refreshments, I go for the good company. Who am I to judge someone who's invited me into their home? Seems petty to me.

I think this is true, but they make it different from their name brand, they are made to different specifications. At least that is what I have heard.

If any guests are true soda snobs, they're welcome to BYOB -- bring your own brand. At a family party where the hosts are known Coca-Cola fiends, DH has been known to haul in his own Diet Dr. Pepper (and share it with other devotees.)
