Would it bother you to have grocery label soda at a party?

I've cut soda almost entirely out of my diet, and lost a bunch of weight as a result, so I wouldn't drink it regardless of what brand it is.

But, in the spirit of actually answering the question, no. It wouldn't bother me. I don't worry myself about what people serve at parties. If I don't like the choices, I just don't have anything.

(I also buy store brand condiments for my own use, so I wouldn't care what kind of ketchup is out either.)

Yes, this would bother me. I drink diet soda, and diet soda has a much shorter expiration.

However, I am not a high maintenance guest, if I were coming to your party, if you had either a pitcher of water, or bottles of water, I would drink that instead.

I agree- I don't care if they serve off brand coke but I won't drink it I think it tastes horrible- people are lying if they say it all tastes the same! But as long s there is a bottle of water I am fine- won't kill anyone not to drink a soda at a party if they don't like it!

I drink sugar free exclusively (diabetic)

What are the other party elements? Is this a budget get together? Absolutely judgment free zone

Is this a moderate expense? Do you have other beverages? Non-sweet tea? great! thank you!

Is this lots of beer (and not cheapo beer) but you chose store brands on the soda since you are only drinking alcoholic beverages yourself? Not cool at all

I often bring my own beverage, depending on where we are going. My brother and SIL never have anything I can drink (other than tap water) in the house. And would not trust it if they did. They once served my father 3 yo expired diet soda.

If you don't want to buy soda, that is fine. Please have some options for those of us who do not consume sugar - unsweet iced tea works for me :)

Absolutely NO!!!! to store brand colas. :faint:

Ever since I was a kid I have thought generic cola tastes like it has cigarette ashes in it.

The other cheaper store brand flavors are fine and I see nothing wrong with serving them at a party. If I were going to buy store brand drinks, I would splurge to purchase Pepsi (or Coke depending on people's preference) or not purchase any cola at all. Most people would be just as happy with store brand Sprite, Dr. Pepper, root beer, etc and skip the cola.

I didn't look through all 6 pages. if it wasn't mentioned you might want to add 2 liter bottles of club soda or seltzer, I always buy the store brand for these.

Just FYI - I don't like French's or Hunt's ketchup, either, but Kroger store brand Ketchup is actually good. Very close to Heinz.

My favorite is actually Del Monte, but it's hard to find. Sometimes a place like Big Lots or Family Dollar has it. Wegman's is good too.

I like Heinz with balsamic vinegar, but most places stopped carrying it.

For family or for a kids party, no it doesn't matter. For an adult party I would spring for name brand.

It's all about the taste. I haven't found any generics that taste as good as Coke or Pepsi, so I would avoid the store brands.

If you have one that tastes as good, then buy them.

I wouldn't be bothered, but I find the 2 liters to be a waste because they go flat and I end up dumping them. Sometimes only one person wanted root beer and noboy drinks pop at my house so it is even a bigger waste. I can get cans of soda cheap on sale or at Costco (i prefer the mini cans) and they will typically last a couple of parties.

I think its funny people think generic coke is the one people dislike and for me it is imitation lemon lime and I absolutely hate Sierra Mist....yuck!!! I mostly drink beer and water though so generic pop wouldn't be a blip on my radar.

I like your idea of the mini-cans, for our family Christmas gathering. I always get half a dozen or so 2-liter bottles (we also have punch, iced tea, water and coffee) and some of them have a lot left over after the party is over. DH and I don't drink them, so they just go to waste. I think this year I will buy some of the mini-cans instead. We love them for camping trips, so why not our family Christmas party too?!

As for the OP's question, no it wouldn't bother me at all if I went to a party and they didn't have name brand pop/soda. I don't have a problem drinking store brand, I'm not loyal to any one particular brand and at someone's party you take what is offered and be grateful. :)

No it wouldn't bother me at all but I would stick with water since I rarely drink soda and if I do I prefer name brand. I think store brand tastes weird. I can definitely taste the difference since I grew up on store brand everything.

When I throw parties I buy name brand soda since that is what I prefer. I buy whatever bottled water is cheapest since I don't mind store brand water.

Well , my whole family doesn't drink soda so we certainly won't mind. If you are interested in saving money on beverages you can make some pitchers -tea, sweet and non, lemonade, cucumber water, iced coffee...
It's nice too because it can seem fancy when really it is just saving you money!

Hey, anyone remember punch? That and grape soda (which my mom would NEVER buy) were two of my favorite reasons for going to a party growing up.
