Would it bother you to have grocery label soda at a party?

Stop and Shop has their brand soda bottles for 75cents and another store has Coke brand for $1.50 each. I would like to save the money and get the cheaper soda.
No, it would not bother me at all as long as you had water or other non-soda refreshment like iced tea available.

That said, for only 75¢ a bottle, I would never do it. How big of a party is this? 20 bottles of pop is only a $15 savings. Depending on the size of the party and how much pop I needed, 75¢ a bottle is not significant enough for me to serve off brand soda. Actually, I would never do it no matter the size - it is one of my weird stickler things. Instead, I would be watching for sales on name brand sodas. During the summer, our local grocery store seems to have bottles of soda on sale every other weekend for 99¢ a bottle.

I'm a Coke person, so while I would avoid any other brand of cola (including other name brands), I would be happy with the store brand in another flavor, or water. :goodvibes

Don't stress about it. Unless you know you've got some real PITA guests on your list, they're coming to celebrate/spend time with you, not judge your soda purchasing decisions.

I'd only be bothered by it if there weren't any non soda options since I don't drink it.

I wouldn't be bothered at all. If I didn't like it Id just ask for a cup and where the faucet was. My brother is a soda snob but brings his own little bottle.

I wouldn't mind, drink the store brand all the time at home. I have one son and his wife who really only like Coke Zero, so when they are coming over I will buy some for them. But everyone else is happy to drink store brands, and they like ginger ale, root beer, etc. I also get cans of sparkling water with a little fruit juice, which is quite popular (store brand).

Utmost Preference? Coke Zero or Coke. Pepsi Next. Mug Rootbeer. Sierra Mist Natural. Strawberry Crush. Faygo Rock n Rye. Vernors.

What do I buy? Whatever is on sale.

What I would expect at a party? Whatever my hostess/host decides to offer.

I cannot BELIEVE there would be anyone bothered by brand of soda at a party. Every party I've ever been to has multiple options, plus water. There's got to be *something* there that even the pickiest person can find palatable.

And, $15 savings on soda is a big deal to me. My family parties are generally 40-50 people min. If I could save $10-15 on any or all aspects of the party (drinks, food, decorations, cake, etc) I would be VERY happy!

Personally I only drink coke zero when I actually have soda. Having store brand soda wouldn't bother me because I wouldn't drink it. I wouldn't serve store brand myself unless it was for a kid's party. If I was trying to save money on beverages I'd go with iced tea, lemonade and water.

Coke and Pepsi 12-packs go on sale so often around here that they're frequently cheaper than store brands. The flavors mentioned above are fine in store brands, but I've never had a store brand cola, regular or diet or cherry flavored, that was palatable.

DH would definitely make a snide comment to me afterwards if we were at a party where only store brands were available.

Wouldn't bother me, but I only pay about $0.18 a can for all name brand 12 oz cans from my local grocery store which equates to about $1.00 per 2 liters, so I keep a bunch stocked up. I much prefer cans just because the last half of a 2 liter bottle seems to be relatively flat unless it's is all poured out at once.

Yes, this would bother me. I drink diet soda, and diet soda has a much shorter expiration.

However, I am not a high maintenance guest, if I were coming to your party, if you had either a pitcher of water, or bottles of water, I would drink that instead.
I don't think I've ever been to a party at somebody's place where absolutely everything was to my exact liking - I'd never even expect that. I'm pretty sure most others don't either. If a guest doesn't like the pop they'll have water, or if they don't like the water they'll have a cup of coffee (or whatever). They'll go home having had a perfectly fine time nonetheless. Don't sweat this at all, OP.

:lmao:I shudder to think what he'd say after a dinner party at my place if he knew many of the ingredients were store-brand generics...I just make sure all the yellow labels are buried far down in the garbage before the guests arrive! ;)

I wouldn't be bothered, but I find the 2 liters to be a waste because they go flat and I end up dumping them. Sometimes only one person wanted root beer and noboy drinks pop at my house so it is even a bigger waste. I can get cans of soda cheap on sale or at Costco (i prefer the mini cans) and they will typically last a couple of parties.

I think its funny people think generic coke is the one people dislike and for me it is imitation lemon lime and I absolutely hate Sierra Mist....yuck!!! I mostly drink beer and water though so generic pop wouldn't be a blip on my radar.

What people don't know won't hurt them. ;)

Just make sure the ketchup is Heinz. Ketchup bottles on the table stick out like a sore thumb, and most generic ketchups are lacking.

I've actually gone to serving those "mini-cans" lately - they're just about a perfect serving size so I don't end up dumping out lots of 1/2 finished cans at the end of the night. They only come in "brand name" so that's a bonus, I guess. They're NOT cheaper though - a 6-pack of Coke or Canada Dry Gingerale here is $2.99

Yep. My dh likes his Pepsi. Caffeine Free Coke for me.

I preferred Sierra Mist over Sprite when it was "Sierra Mist Natural" made with actual sugar instead of corn syrup. Then a couple years ago they tried to get clever and added Stevia to it (along with the sugar) to slightly lower the caloric content without telling anyone - or labeling it diet - and it had a nasty aftertaste. Needless to say, their sales tanked. Now they've brought it back as Mist Twst, without the "natural" and they are back to corn syrup. So I'm back to Sprite.
