My family and I are planning a Dec. 2008 7 day western carribean cruise and can't imagine that it is worth a grand more for the same cruise as we can get with carnival. They go to almost the same port's of call and leave from nearly the same place and not to mention on carnival we would be going on the newest ship in the fleet for it doesnt launch till julypirate:

I think when it comes to cruising you get what you pay for. But that's just my opinion. :goodvibes

Yup, completely worth it. No comparison in my opinion.

Do the Disney then the Carnival, then come back and post that again!
:lmao: Is MY opinion! :)

I feel DCL does a better job with excursions in the port, seems to have a better docking position. I especially noticed the differences on our Mexican Rivera cruise. However, if the expense is your main criteria, you might want to cruise on Carnival especially since there is a $1,000 difference.

We cruise on DCL for many reasons. Some of the reasons are the separate adult areas, plenty of things to do for GK's and the caliber of on board service. To us, it is worth the extra dollars to cruise on DCL but that is a personal choice.

Just my thoughts...

I don't know if you have kids or not, but part of the reason we pay extra for Disney is the family-friendliness of everything. Don't have to worry as much about what the kids are exposed to. We didn't like the more risque Las Vegas-like after-dinner shows (scantily clad showgirls and R rated humor) that Carnival had to offer. Definitely not family friendly. We skipped some shows and wish we would have walked out of others.

If you haven't cruised with Disney yet, you won't know what you're missing! Go on the new Carnival ship and have a great time. Enjoy the $1000 savings. :)

I can't comment on Carnival, but we noticed a big difference in the passengers between DCL and Celebrity : In general, quite a few of the guests on our Celebrity (Century) cruise were extremely loud and rather obnoxious. There were still children aboard as it was July, but I'm referring to the adults. I realize there were exceptions to this, but both dh & I felt the overall ambiance and demeanor of the guests to be so much more positive and pleasant on DCL. Perhaps it was just the luck of the draw, I don't know. It certainly made an impression on us.

Seems like an apples to oranges comparison. Sort of like saying that you are going to Six Flags for vacation because it is $1000 less than Disney World. To some people one is worth $1000 more than the other, but you need to decide what is important to your family. When I booked our trip I never even considered other ships since I knew that I wanted the Disney experience. I wasn't just looking for a ship, I was looking for Disney.

Excellent analogy!

ah but your forgetting about the kids, I think disney has better/more variety of things for the kids...

I personally have been on royal, and carnival, and planning a disney cruise...

If i didn't have a 4 yr old, we would be going carnival, its more of a party boat!!! lots of people drinking, casino, bar hopping till 3am...etc....

but for our daughters sake, I think disney is the way to go, its themed for her, my wife can do her own "adult" things, and we can also have free time to ourselves.. "it's perfect"

Hi, In my opinion, after being on 3 Disney cruises with children, Go Disney. This coming winter I turned down a Carnival cruise that was about 1/2 the price of Disney. Disney definately if sailing with a family. Also, search cruise incidents and see which name keeps popping up.

Aloha,

Like everyone says it's all about the Disney experience. With Disney you get quality service, greats atmosphere and magic.
We are DINKs and we still love DCL. My DW and I can't even fathom going on other cruiseline. It's hard to go on another cruise line when we really enjoy DCL.
$1000 is a lot of money though. If you can afford it you should try DCL. If not go with your heart. You can make the magic on any trip you take.

This just in DVC will be Hawaii. Can you say special cruise to Hawaii in the near future !!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Aloha,

Disney fills 2 ships so people must think it's "worth" it.

Are you getting more than on other cruise lines? Absolutely yes.
Are you getting $1,000 more than on other cruises lines. Absolutely not.

We are free to spend your money as you like. That's why you can buy a Chevy Tahoe...or spend $20,000 more and get a nealry identical Cadillac Escalade. Or you can buy a Toyota Camry, or spend thousands more for an identical Lexus ES. Or a Ford Explorer...instead of a Lincoln Aviator.
Or you can buy the $3.25 gallon of store brand milk...or the $4.25 gallon of brand name milk (at my store, both come from the same dairy, the same cows, the bottling code is even identical).

Aloha,

Other cruise lines $1000 less than Disney. Sailing on DCL and experience the Disney Magic priceless.

One persons opinion. You get what you pay for.

aloha,

hawaiian mickey

There are laso extra things that you must pay for on Carnival, that are included in the price on DCL. Sodas, room service, etc.

also wanted to point out, your on the disney forum, everyone here is going to say disney is better, goto a carnival forum, and they well all tell you carnival is the way to go, and so on...

I went on my first cruise in May 1997, on Carnival. I was crying b4 we made it to San Juan, I hated it and wanted to fly home. If you're young (20 something) and want to party it up and have a good time, then by all means Carnival may be the way to go. If you're settled and have children, then there is no doubt you should go Disney.

On Carnival we got stuck in a couple of ports because of medical emergency's w/ people drinking to much. They gave no thought at all who they set us w/ at dinner, it was just my husband and I, they set us w/ a 60ish couple, their 2 grown children and their spouses and 1 grandchild, it was like we were intruding on someones family dinner. We never ate in the dining room after that first night. Disney on the other hand set us w/ a couple around our age and their only child, who is only a couple of years older than my only child, couldn't have asked for a better fit, we're still friends. I am getting ready for my 3rd cruise w/ Disney this week-end, and so far I couldn't be happier.

I guess it all depends what you're looking for: A little family Magic :wizard: or a week full of partying  Sorry to be harsh about Carnival, but thats just my experience w/ them and my opinion.

well since we are 20 something's,want a casino, have a child that is not too young and would like to party hardy a little bit since we dont get to much at home we will go with the carnival and use the extra mulla to drink and spend in the casino and deep sea fish besides we do Disney World twice a year so we can get all the disney experiences we want there! But I do appreciate all the priceless info!pirate: :thumbsup2

Disney is worth every extra penny and yes you do get more for that extra grand in cost. We have done Disney 5 times Carnival 1 and RCL 2. WE WILL NEVER DO RCL AGAIN!!! food is horrible servers could not get the simplest drink orders right, none of the workers seemed to like their jobs.( ship itself is beautiful). Carnival we will do again, food was good servers did a good job nice ship. Disney just blows them all away. Worker/servers go above and beyond and like their jobs.:thumbsup2 the food is always hot and good quality
This is my opinion to each their own
