Thanks to Greg K., here is a picture before the hat.

I guess I'm the odd one out. I thought the Birthday castle was okay and was glad I got to see it in person. I like the Epcot "ball" both ways and think it will be an adjustment when I go down in Oct and see the wand missing. The sorcerers hat doesn't bother me either as I always liked sorcerer Mickey. I'm in the World so I'm happy with anything.

Including the prices? ;) :lmao:

I thought the Pepto Bismal cake was horrendous looking! :scared1: I'm glad I didn't see that monstrosity in person. I also don't like the Christmas lights on it either. I like that Hat, but I've never seen it in person. The Wand was atrocious looking on the Golf Ball.

It's as if Disney wants to create a competition bewteen themselves and Las Vegas to see who can be more gawdy.

I hate the "tombstones" at Epcot and liked the wand for the year 2000 celebration not so much when it stayed on.

The first time my son saw the tombstones he ask "Mom are all these people dead?":rotfl:

I think the PP is correct about the hat being there for promo reasons after the orig. theater changed hands?

:lmao: I was laughing at what your son said!! :rotfl:

PeptoCastle-:scared1: hands down the worst; Wand over SSE I kind of liked it; Hat at the Studios no opinion but I love Fantasia. Castle bling for the 50th liked that too the only redeeming thing about Cinderellabration which I think we saw at least 10 times in one trip-dd LOVED this show.

We were there for the 25th and our whole family thought the pink covered castle was overdone. I think the idea could have been done without so much cakey look! and the hat is definitely in the wrong location. I love Fantasia, but the hat just doesn't fit there. Didn't mind the wand but don't miss it now that it's gone. The leave a legacy monoliths are out of place -- so sharp and overly modernistic and they mess up the view of the beautiful Spaceship Earth.

Didn't see the castle cake in person - but the photos are hideous. Yikes! :scared1:

I liked the wand on SSE, but I don't think I'll miss it on this next trip either. I also don't mind the Sorcerer's Hat - never really thought of it as an eyesore and I guess it makes sense if they had to come up with a different icon (other than the theatre) - I never really thought of the Earful tower as the icon. :confused3

And I love, love, loved the castle during the 50th celebration - thought the gold was beautiful.

The worst decorative monstrosity by far was the cake castle. I don't really care for the sorcerer's hat either.

The hat doesn't bother me - but we'd never been to MGM/DHS before it was there. I actually liked the wand and thought it didn't take anything away from SSE.

But the cake??

EEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!

That was DH's and my honeymoon and I hadn't seen the castle since the mid 80's. That stroll down Main Street isn't the same with a candy pepto castle at the end. :sad2:

My first trip to Disney was a day trip while the castle was painted pink. I thought it looked awful! We went back down for our anniversary in '98 & it looked so much better.
That being said, I think the hat is the worst, especially knowing that the "ICON of the park" is a freakin' pin trading station!!

Got to agree with all three of these. But I'd add a 4th - the Swolphin. Yes, those ugly monstrosities that simply don't blend in with the theming of BoardWalk, BC/YC or either of the two parks they border. I can't believe Michael let them do that.

Not sure if this is true but I heard Micheal Eisner did not have a choice when they built the hotels. I heard it had something to do with the contractors that build epcot. It was in the contract for them to get that land.. I could be all wrong, maybe way off the mark but I think I did hear it somewhere????? I do think they are way out of place. I heard he wanted more towards downtown disney. I agree with you...If somebody knows the answer to this let me know thanks....

I like the hat too. I only saw pictures of the "Pepto Cake" and it was pretty ugly.

Thank you! I thought it was just me who didn't like those giant things perched on the top of the hotels. They should call it the swan and the goldfish. I don't think Disney owns them, which is probably part of the problem. I kinda like everything else. ( Even the pepto cake castle was ok!)

I was at "MGM" when they were building the hat. My husband and I were thiking we were missing something really big.. and that something huge was going in that spot....

Next time we went... oh, they just built a hat?? Well, that was dumb. :wizard:

i found the link to the castle cake and loved it! looks good enough to eat! from reading it seems that most people didn't like it at all. i love cinderella's castle as it is normally, but i think "dressing it up" for the celebration was fun...as long as they don't permanently change the look. ANYBODY else like it?!

EXACTLY.

I love the hat! :thumbsup2 Looks like it belongs there! The "Castle Cake" was awesome too, but I only saw pictures!:confused3

SOO much nicer. and you can actually see the hidden mickey in the layout of the park... now it's hard to find w/ the hat.

this is very cool! i've never seen this and didn't realize what some people meant about a hidden mickey. love the picture! i still like the hat though. :flower3:
