Worst Decorative Monstrosity

I'll add the "tomb stones" at Epcot. I've hated those things since they went in. They ruined the whole effect of walking into that space with the first view of Spaceship Earth. I'll be REAL glad when they're moved. (And I'm glad the wand is gone, too.) I guess I'm old school, but I liked the "original" Epcot better.

Is there a plan to move the tombstones? When? and where?

My wife and I are on there from our first trip together, so it's fun to find our picture when we go back (especially showing the kids), but they do look like tombstones set right in the entrance to the park - not your best first impression.

When they first went in, they were supposed to remain there until 2009, then be moved to another location. I don't know what the current plans are for them.

My DS and DIL are on them too - but I don't care to look at them. They look like the flat picture monuments you see on mausoleums. The whole idea, much less the placement, was NOT one of Disney's better ideas.

I agree with many people on the cake, i love the sight of Cinderellas castle :lovestruc but seeing it as a giant cake just took the magical edge off of it for me. Always made me hungry when looking at it though :rotfl:

Im a "wand lover" so am sad that its no longer there. A lovely sight at night i thought

Am not so sure on the Sourceres Hat though, see what i truely think of that when we go in a few months

yeah, MK's birthday cake was a little "overdone". i think it would have been okay if they had kept it like that for a month or so, but it was up for a very long time.

i have to admit, i really like the sorcerer hat though.....:rolleyes1

1. The "tombsones" is Epcot are a downer to what could be a pretty area with lots of greenery.

2. Dinoland in AK. I understand that it's supposed to have a carnival theme, but I don't like it. There isn't any one thing there (like the Hat or Wand) I can point to and say, "It should be removed." I just think that the entire Dinoland area is an eyesore and could be better themed. JMHO.

I like the wand on Spaceship Earth- and I'm an oldschool EPCOT fan

I also like the Sorcerer's Hat at DHS- I never was a fan of the Earfull tower

BUT THE BIRTHDAY CAKE CASTLE WAS AN ABOMINATION!!!!!

Ruh Roh, I'm the odd one out, but I liked the cake! Lol
We do go annually, so it was something different. Call me crazy!

I also agree- the general themeing on this area- a MIDWAY??? :confused3 Can't stand it, it ruined AK for me- terrible

I agree with your #2, I think the themeing could be a lot more elaborate there. And I hate the carnival area, I refuse to even 'look there'

It's the placement of the hat that irks me. It is not bad in and of itself, but it blocks the beautiful Chinese Theater.

I saw the cakesel for our honeymoon, at the time I was disappointed not seeing Cinderalla Castle, because I had not been in 4 years. I just kept staring at it thinking, that is the craziest thing I have ever seen, it was just nuts! Looking back I'm really glad I saw it, it is really cool looking back at the pictures.

The wand didn't bother me and the tombstones don't bother me either. I thought the bling on the castle was amazingly beautiful.

Just wanted to add that when DD had her pic added to the "tombstone" the paperwork we got stated that they would be there until "at least" 2020. Sorry for the people who would like it gone. Looks like it's staying for at least 12 more years.

Those monument things in the beginning of epcot. lame.

Can anyone post a pic of the mentioned "Tombstone" as i dont believe i ve ever seen it

Well I'm not sure I really hate/hated anything. The Castle Cake "Cute" in pictures, probably would have been odd to see up close, would be homesick for "normality".

SSE Wand- Well at first I thought when it was removed how odd the "Big Ol' Golf Ball" looked, but after a bit I began to "get it". SSE has a certain.. beauty? about it and makes it a very elegant figure to Epcot.

The. Hat.- Okay I admit, it's pretty tacky. But it was a creative way to solve to problem. I know most of you complain about the placement but the way I understand it: Disney really didn't have a choice. They couldn't use the theater for promotional purposes, so they covered it up. Maybe I have it wrong, feel free to correct me.

Disneyland's 50th Anniv.- WDW Castle- I loved this! I loved DL's too with the tiaras, but the WDW castle was great. While some of it was a little random and I didn't quite care for the big.. mirror.. advertisement, I loved the stuff on the top spires of the Castle. Seeing Tinkerbell at the top, or Peter Pan and the gang was just plain COOL!

Tombstones- very odd, very out of place, but don't bother me.

Did I miss any? :)

I do not like the hat. I am so glad I had my first visit to MGM, that was its name when I was there. I love the Chinese Theartre view. More Studio(ish)

I sorta liked the wand but could take it or leave it.

I did like the cake. I was excited to get to see it in person. Proudly have my....That was then, this is now Tshirt. (of course I have the attitude that it is temporary so I go now to see it or not and wait for the next dress up plan). I will say I did not like the clock covered for the 50th bday when it was covered in gold.

I believe your are right MouseEars. We did the KTTK tour and our guide did mention it had to do with contract agreement to the theater. The hat was built to block the view of the theater.

I really liked the "bling" on the ball at Epcot! I am so glad it was still up when we went last June.

I have always assumed that the big sorceror's hat is because of Fantasmic and the whole Sorceror Mickey thing. But, it would make more sense to be closer to the front or area where Fantasmic is shown.

I never saw the pink castle and glad I didn't.

Interesting and good thread...

Definitely agree with this one. Hated those stupid monoliths the first second I saw them. Move 'em out!!!
