A previous thread got me thinking....what is the "added decorative touch" you hated most in the theme parks. I figured we'd stick with the top 3 everyone talks about most:

1) The Birthday Cake Castle for the 25th Anniversary at MK-It didn't bother me, but if it were my only trip to DW, I probably wouldn't have been happy.

2) The Epcot Wand for the Millenium Celebration-Even though I tend to be a purist, I really liked this one. I enjoyed it at night at the parks or viewing it from my resort at Pop Century.

3) The Sorcerer Hat at MGM-This is the one I hate most. To me it just sticks out like a sore thumb with no function at all.....oh yeah, I forgot, it's a store for pins and hats. OOOH...AHHH (note the sarcasm).

i agree with all you said. i really don't understand the sorcer hat? i thought the water tower with the ears was supposed to be MGM's cinderella castle? lol. yea i know its DHS now but that kinda sounds like the name of a high school doesn't it? like "Go DHS FOOTBALL!" lol :rotfl2:

Another vote for the hat. :thumbsup2

I like the hat, but I don't like the location of it. I think it takes away from the ambiance of the park having it in front of the Chinese Theatre.

I really liked the Epcot wand, and miss that.

I'm glad that Pepto Bismal Palace was only temporary. I wasn't crazy about all the gold on the castle a couple of years ago--some of it was nice, but they really overdid it.

I don't like the hat - and think that it diminishes the ambiance of Hollywood Blvd and the Chinese Theatre.

Thankfully I never saw the "pepto bismal palace" in person - only in photos. That was bad enough.

There was WAY too much bling on the castle for DL's 50th. I liked the big mirror thing with the rotating castles from around the world - but the rest of it was not needed. I'm glad they shipped off all those flying figures to Paris!

Wand, hat, birthday cake. The cake was nice for people who go a lot...sort of...but I still cannot imagine the disappointment of people who saved for years and during their one shot at the Magic Kingdom didn't even get to see the castle. Instead, they got the Pepto Cake. How disappointing.

I didn't much care for the bling on the castle, either. Too much. And I really hated the sign advertising the other parks. Commercials do NOT belong on the castle!!

I wish they'd just leave the castle alone.

Liked it when Stitch TP'd it, though! Adorable, funny, temporary. :)

I love the hat! And would really love to see it to moved somewhere else!:rotfl2:  And the worse thing is that it is probably permanent. It absolutley ruins the Chinese Theatre as an icon for Hollywood and the weanie at the end of the BLVD. They need a military helicopter to airlift it somewhere else.

I'm glad I never got to see the wand in person. The SS Earth geosphere is awesome all on it's own and needs no props or embellishment.

The Brithday Castle was OK as a temporary decoration. I like the castle just as it is.

And while we're at it...I'm not particularly fond of the 'whatever you call it' canopy thing between the Innoventions/behind SS Earth:confused3

I guess I'm the odd one out. I thought the Birthday castle was okay and was glad I got to see it in person. I like the Epcot "ball" both ways and think it will be an adjustment when I go down in Oct and see the wand missing. The sorcerers hat doesn't bother me either as I always liked sorcerer Mickey. I'm in the World so I'm happy with anything.

i don't necessarily hate the hat itself- i hate the location. i hate that it blocks the chinese theater. it was always so great to walk down the street in MGM... er, i mean DHS (lol) and see the theater. it made you feel like you really were in Hollywood. If they would move it somewhere else in the park (who knows where though) i would be totally fine with it.

I didn't mind the epcot wand, but am glad it's gone.

and as for the birthday cake- i'm glad it was only temporary.

wow, I guess I didn't even realize that people didn't like the hat! Shows how much I know lol. I vote for the Birthday Castle

Got to agree with all three of these. But I'd add a 4th - the Swolphin. Yes, those ugly monstrosities that simply don't blend in with the theming of BoardWalk, BC/YC or either of the two parks they border. I can't believe Michael let them do that.

I'll add the "tomb stones" at Epcot. I've hated those things since they went in. They ruined the whole effect of walking into that space with the first view of Spaceship Earth. I'll be REAL glad when they're moved. (And I'm glad the wand is gone, too.) I guess I'm old school, but I liked the "original" Epcot better.

I agree about the Swolphin, too. (I'll admit I'm not a fan of the architecture.) They might be fine somewhere else, but not right on top of the BW and YC. They're the main reason we always get the standard view BWV DVC villas - so we don't have to look at them.

The hat I can take or leave. It's just sort of "eh, big deal - there's a huge hat in my way". It doesn't really add anything to the park. I have yet to hear anyone standing in front of it say, "WOW! I love that hat!"

This is a really tough one for me, cuz I HATE the hat and the pink castle equally. But I'm gonna say the pink castle cuz it gives me a stomache ache and makes me want to throw up. The hat is actually pretty but it couldnt be in a worse location.

The worst was definitley the cake.

I still shudder when I think about it..:scared:

There are very few things that I truly detest. The hat ranks right up there with socialized medicine.

It ruins the view from all angles, even from the sky. Before the hat, there was a wonderful "hidden" Mickey visible from the air. A couple buildings even had there roofs painted black to be Mickey's right ear.

Hey Robo, would you please grace us with before and after pictures from you extensive collection?

1) Hated the cake. Its supposed to be Cinderella Castle not Cinderella Sweet 16.
2) Loved the wand, but I love ball plain too.
3) The Hat is a waste of space, the Chinese Theater is blocked:(

Another note on the castlel; I loved the way it looked for Cinderellabration with the mirror and the pretty gold figures :cloud9

i LOVE the hat and could care less where it is. how could you not like it? but then again, i love fantasia. it's old school. when i go to any of the parks i'm always in awe of the fantasy, not the placement and dimensions of things. it's truly like being a kid again, and one thing you can say about kids is that they just enjoy something instead of analyzing it.

The Pepto cake was what we saw when we arrived in the MK on our honeymoon. I hate looking at the pics to this day!

I am glad the hand and wand are down. I wish they would move the Leave a Legacy things somewhere else. I know there is talk of them moving. I'm with Disflan, I loved the way the entrance of Epcot used to look!

I like the hat but hate the location
