Worried about airline bankruptcies...

We have been planning our next WDW trip (April 2002) for 2 years, and just bought the airline tickets (9 of 'em), two months ago. Now, with all that has happened, and the resulting downward spiral of the airline industry, I'm really concerned that the $1400 + we shelled out for non-refundable airline tickets will be lost if/when these airlines become insolvent! Anyone else feeling concerns about this? We have tickets on Delta and tickets on US Airways. I'm committed to flying and keeping our plans for our WDW vacation--but worried that will no longer be an option come April.

I doubt that you have anything to worry about. All of the airlines are affected and the government couldn't allow them all to go bankrupt - we depend too much on air travel. Of course there are no guarantees, and who knows what will be going on concerning the war by then. I have airline and MVMCP tickets for December, but I'm going to hold off buying anything else that is non-refundable until just before our trip. :(

I can't comment on USAir, but I did hear a wall street analyst say yesterday that Delta would weather this ok since they did not have lots of debt. As a matter of fact, I think they issued debt yesterday to buy back their stock at the really low prices.

Did you use a credit card to purchase your tickets? If so, you may have some protection from losing your money through it. Check the documents you received when you signed up or call the credit card company to see what (if anything) they would do in that situation. I'm suggesting this only because it may make you feel better. But IMHO, you do not need to not worry too about this. I agree with karylrocks - the U S governement will find a way to help the airlines get through this. Our economy depends on it.

God Bless America.

We have Delta tickets.
According to the Delta web-site my planes are still flying.

I was not worried about bankrupcy - I was worried about the 20%-25%
flight cut backs. I did not want my flight cancelled.

But with the 2 hour requirements ..... our plane leaves at 6:10 am - so
we have to be at the airport at 4 am - and leave our home at 2 am !

Why bother to go to bed the night before !!

I hadn't thought about that aspect of it, but fortunately our flight doesn't leave until 8, so we can sleep in (until 5:00 at least!). I, too, am worried that flights might be cut, but hoping that by April things are back up and running full force again. God Bless the USA!
