What is the maximum number of Countries that will fit into World Showcase?

Since it has been 26 years since the last one was added,do you think it will ever reach Capacity?:)

I have no idea but I definitely think they can fit another one or 2. After all, they waste what I think is a significant amount of space on those interim Disney spots they have in between some of the countries. I don't know what you call them but I remember thinking it was an eye-sore that sometimes one country will end and instead of a new country starting you have this Disney, I don't know if it's Vacation Club crap or what, taking up space. It's just boring and it's not international or cultural and it's taking up space in the World Showcase and I never understood why.

well it depends on what you mean. Right now all the build pads are filled. BUT the original plan was world showcase was going to be a figure-8 with the America pavilion right in the middle of 8. So they where going to have another loop, and the pads where apparently marked out.

We did a backstage tour about 10 years ago, I think I was about 16, but I remember they told us that more countries could fit. I can't remember the exact number but it is more than you would think at first. Not sure why there haven't been any new countries added but there is A LOT of input given from the countries as to what is there.

Countries like Greece and India would make sense. Greece because of all the incredible history and the culture and cool things like Greek Gods and stuff, and India because it's such a huge country, of course, and also has beautiful culture. I mean, yes, you have Morocco but talk about a hodgepodge! It's basically supposed to represent all that is Mediterranean and Middle Eastern and exotic but I think they could have a country with more specific aspects to it.

Australia would also be a cool choice. Russia is also a pretty huge country. Spain too, after all, it's completely different than Mexico.

They have 6 definite spaces but they could squeeze 2 more if they tried,6-8.

Of course at the rate they're adding countries they might need that 7th and 8th slot in the year 2662.

WS was originally envisioned to include an upwards of 30 countries believe it or not, but after Disney could not find enough sponsorship commitments from companies within these countries, that number dropped to eight or nine. But, of course, eight or nine pavilions around the lagoon look kinda scarce, so suddenly what was supposed to be just pavilions turned into full mini-lands where the architecture and design of the nation extended beyond just one pavilion into multiple buildings and areas. Because of that, the capacity is about 20 or so though that can vary based on the size of the countries.

Unfortunately, at this rate, I'm doubtful we'll ever see (within my lifetime) even a couple more countries. If any change is to be made to WS in the foreseeable future, it would be the addition of DVC villas to the upper floors of some pavilions (that's not a joke! the project is/was tentatively titled "The Villas at Epcot"). That said, the plan for future DVC development has recently changed dramatically, so even that may not be a possibility.

That might have been the original plan, but considering the location of CBR that doesn't seem it would be possible any longer. I'd love to see some new countries though.

There are currently 6 vacant full size country spots:

1 between Mexico and Norway

2 between China and Germany. This was announced by Disney to be the location of a massive Equatorial Africa pavillion which was supposed to open a year after Epcot opened. They pretty much had all of the planning completed and even filmed some of the movies for the various attractions. The project was suddenly canceled. All they ever built was the Outpost.

1 between Germany and Italy. This was planned to be Switzerland at one point, including a version of the Matterhorn ride.

1 between Japan and Morocco

1 between France and Morocco

Thanks everybody!:)

I am hoping maybe they will surprise us and build another Country for WDW's 50th!:)

I think watching a new Country being built in WS would be SO exciting!:)

Don't count on it.

And yes it would. I would love to see 6 more countries. Heck, I'd love to see anything new in Epcot.

Of course AK had a little to do with it.

One other thing to keep in mind. While there are six official expansion pads, not all pads are created equally. Disney looks at some spaces as areas where they could put in two or yes even three countries. Additionally, they've also noted the sport directly south of Epcot (near Reedy Creak Fire) as a potential expansion area in the 50-year plan.

Also most all of that area is used for Back Stage uses. Either as storage or for things like classes for Magic Music days. Also staging for the Candlelight Processional.
