Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Yesterday there was a bag of Snickers calling my name, and I ate at least two or 3 handfuls, but I finally got myself under control and ate pretty good the rest of the day. Dana

See,I think that is so great. I think we'll all have those moments where something is calling our name but the fact that you were on track the rest of the day is awesome!

Jen - I am a firm believer that stress can be a major contributing factor in weight gain or failure to lose weight. I just can't figure out if that happens because we use food for comfort or if there is something to that cortisol thing. I know at the worst period in my life I was so thin my mother thought I was anorexic! In other stressful times I gained a ton.

Mel - I would kill to see 148 on the scale; and down 2lbs since the race to boot. Good for you. Size 10 feels good doesn't it? I am in my size 10 jeans but they are well broken in. I think I am more of a 12 right now. My best size is an 8 as I am 5'10".

Texa - I feel like the beginning of each week in Couch to 5K is a jump, but by Friday I can handle the distance. I'm really liking the program, are you?

Minnie - Thanks for the kind words. I do love an occasional sweet.

Dena - Good luck on breaking the 150 wall. Why is it that each 10 lb marker seems so tough to get through. I know you can do it!

You all might remember that fast food is one of my demons. Well, today I did visit Jack in the Box and had.........

a salad! 500 calories of yummy goodness and I satisfied my craving for a drive thru.

Working with my trainer tonight and I'm sure he will torture me. He just loves lunges and jackknives - with a big ball between my ankles. And I pay for this!

Take care all!

Hi, everyone!
Just wanted to check in to let you know I am doing pretty well, food-wise, though I can tell I am bloated today and the scale will NOT be friendly at WW weigh in tonight. :sad1: Just can't be too upset about it, or I'll head to taco bell instead of the gym after my meeting.

Food today:
B: weight watchers oatmeal (I have decided that somethign about the maple brown sugar flavor makes me hungry sooner and triggers sweets cravings. I am going to have to figure out an alternative breakfast)
S: banana; apple
L: green salad w/grilled chicken strips & fat free flavored feta

Between the meeting and the gym I will definitely take something else in, even if it is a granola bar. I still have another banana and an apple, so those are options too.

Keep up the great work everyone! Mel, I am so happy for you that you are in size 10s and that your weight is down since the marathon. You must be so proud of yourself! :woohoo:

Hugs, all! :grouphug:

I bit the bullet and went to my first Weight Watchers meeting! I hope that y'all will give me pointers...she did a decent job of describing the program but not an AWESOME job! I sort-of understand it! I may be back here tomorrow asking for help!

Beth

OK, I really need to get to bed, but after lecturing Jen about stayign away from teh training board, I felt Imust come back here.

Basically, I think my TM accidentr was my last emotional straw. FAlling off teh TM sent me right off the eating wagon. Great to eat badly when I can't work out! Real smart. that weight gain will help. Then, we topped it off with a much unwanted weekend with the ILs. I was boerd and frustrated and ate some more. Oh, adn they had cake adn cookies fro dh's b-day. Ugh.

On the bright side, I'm up to day 2 of being good and got my 40 min on the TM tonight.

I'll try to catch up with the rest of your journeys soon!

Everyone: Aren't Superbowl weekends tough? I actually find them much tougher than Valentine's Day. But don't get me started on Oscar parties....

Jen: Good to hear that your working/traveling/eating went well. I'm not quite so successful at it, but am working on being more conscientious. As for the Superbowl party, well, see above. You're exactly right, today is a new day! And I'm sorry about the stress--I know that really affects my eating/sleeping/workout habits, so I'll be thinking of you. (Oh, and it sounds like Wisconsin got our ND weather--that's bad for you, but I have to say I'm glad we're rid of it.)

Minnie: Good job staying on plan over the course of a couple of days--checks and balances, right?

Miranda: A pastry chef! I think I'm in love! I live less than two blocks away from a pastry shop and I keep telling myself that just because it's convenient and that I like to support the local economy doesn't mean I need that tart.

Cam: I think you did well overall, don't you? No tiramisu? That's determination. (Hmmm, do you all think I'm craving sugar right now? ;) )

Susan: Comfortable runs (or in my case, slogs)? Yes, I feel that way about the program, too! It seems to build up distance nicely. I'm not at 10 minutes yet, either, so I like the time-substitution which C25K offers. Oh, and good work on the diet, even with the coconut cake. I hope your workout with the trainer went as well as can be expected, given the lunges and all.

Mel: Great news on retiring the size 14s (& on the savvy shopping/selling)!

Texa: Whoo-hoo! Another C25K person! I'm a week ahead of you and behind Panthergirl. It does seem like a bit of a jump in week 3, but it makes sense in the overall schedule, I think. I look forward to hearing your progress.

Cam & Beth: How did your WW meetings go, respectively?

Dana: It's great to hear from you. I like how you're making plans to break that 150 barrier, but how you're also assessing your progress beyond the scale. I need to move beyond the scale, so I'm always glad to hear how others work through that issue. Let us know how your DVDs work out for you. (No pun intended, but the pun's there anyway.)

Carrie: I empathize with the reaction to the ILs; DH has noted my need for drinks and sweets increases with time spent with mine. But good news on the 40 minutes and day 2 of being back on the wagon/TM.

As for me, the past couple of days have went well with the diet. I ate more than usual during the Superbowl party, but most of it was healthy. (There are times when being a vegetarian helps you say no!) I did my fair share of chocolate desserts, but it my eating habits weren't nearly as excessive as I'd hoped. I'm on track this week generally, although Tuesdays are difficult because it's my long work day. I don't work out then, except maybe some gentle yoga in the morning/pm. I did have some a chocolate brownie today--Superbowl leftovers--but limited my intake by splitting one with DH. Coincidentally...I also "forgot" to weigh in today. :rolleyes1 But I'll weigh myself tomorrow, at my regular time!

Oh, and the good news, at least for me...I'm still drinking soda, but I figure I've cut my weekly intake in half! I'm really happy about that.

deekaypee, Oh yeah its soooo hard thought specially when I have a new menu coming up and we have to taste as we go..so I spit it out. I have been a full 2 weeks with out chocolate, and its not that bad! :) but after the marathon I will be have my chocoalte birthday cake at the California Grill

Hi, everyone!
Carrie -- good job on getting back on track (and getting back on the TM)
Beth -- welcome to the WW world. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like. We LOVE sharing information and support! :goodvibes:
dkp -- great job on cutting back your soda intake.
miranda -- I am so glad you have that cake to look forward to.

Well, WI wasn't bad last night, but not great, either. I was in court all afternoon Monday and yesterday and just didn't get my water in and felt so bloated when I stepped on the scale. Fortunately no gain or loss. Then I ate a small power bar and some leftover grilled chicken strips (from my lunch) after the meeting and before the gym. Training was 2 extremely slow miles (27:49, which I think is a 13:55 pace -- UGH!) before I conceded that I was not properly fueled and not sufficiently motivated. So, I headed home and was so voracious that I ate the following: small bit of leftover barley mixed with corn, Dr. Praeger veggie burger, oven "fried" potatoes w/olive oil & garlic; and whole wheat couscous mixed with mushrooms & onions. WAYYYY too much food!
So, I came to a conclusion. I am going to stick with core foods, but I am going to count the points and try to be very conscientious about the volume. I have to slow down enough to acknowledge that my tummy is full before I take more bites. I am still 6 pounds away from a number that would just absolutely thrill me, and I really WISH I could see that before the end of this month!
Keep it up, guys! You are all encouraging me so much!

Kennercam : great Job! even though you said you ate to much. You ate all healthy food!

I have been eating more fruit and less carbs. today I went to the gym and did 4 miles and bruned 500 calories so that made my day. now I can have my turkey chili I made.

good luck everyone, keep it up. :)

Congrats, Miranda! 500 calories is awesome! Now just don't do like I do and spend them all! :rotfl:

Okay, so here it is 4:15 and I have taken in 7 points out of the 23 that I would be permitted if I were following WW flex. I did switch over to flex on my on-line WW membership and I am tracking every bite I eat, but definitely trying to stick to core foods.
I still have a banana I can eat this afternoon and I will have to find something else before I head to the gym because I can already feel an energy lag and hunger. The problem, of course, will be when I get home and want to eat everything in sight. It might be a good night for some whole wheat pasta with diced tomatoes and fat free ricotta. That is a very filling and satisfying meal.
What's for dinner for everyone else?

Total drive-by, but I wanted to check in since I have been MIA lately. :sad2:
I weighed in tonight at WW and it wasn't pretty. I was finally up enough to have to pay again. :sad1: I think paying may be what I need to get serious again though. (for our new folks - I got lifetime this summer by my doc. writing a note. I was stuck 10 lbs. over WW's goal for a year)

I have been 'not serious' since the fall. I start every WW week being so good, then I just don't care. I have no idea how I got here, but I think I really am finally fed up with myself! I am 9+ lbs. over my lowest WW weight thus far. That totally sucks!

So, right now I am heading to bed with a bag of baked cheetos. One last fling, if you will. Tomorrow is CORE, CORE, CORE!!! I swear!

Also, tomorrow at work I plan on catching up with everyone here. I just needed to vent a little & get this off my chest before I go to bed.

And you know, I see my Johnny Rzeznik again in about 6 weeks.
I really should get my 9 lbs. back off by then, right? ;)

Kristi -- YOu know we are supposed to admonish you for that last fling, right? ;) I know you can get back on track and lose those 9 before you see your sweetie again!

Well, I am really being conscientious about the volume of food I am taking in tonight. I did 1 veggie burger topped with onions & fat free cheese; 1 cup of whole wheat couscous; and am now eating a green salad w/soy parmesan topping and fat free italian dressing. I still have about 6 points I should take in tonight, but if I am not hungry, I am not going to eat them.

Cam - be really careful about not eating enough points! Way back when, I would try not to eat many of my 35 'extra' points, and I would not lose, or maybe even gain a little! I was getting so frustrated. Then when my leader told me to eat the points, and I did, I would lose. Go figure!

So, my first goal now is to get below my upper limit, so I don't have to pay WW again! ;) My booklet is at home, but it is somewhere between 2-3 lbs. I think that is very reasonable to get off in the next week or two.

And last night as I was getting my food ready for work...I realized that my dannon light n fit smoothies are not Core. I always thought they were for some weird reason. And NO stores around here are carrying my WW puffed wheat cereal anymore! I am so dependent on that since it's hard to find anything core for breakfast that I can bring to work with me. Besides, I don't like milk, so this way an easy way to get some milk in also. So for now, it's oatmeal & counting the points. My pts. are going fast! :scared1:

Today's plan:
I have had so far - oatmeal, grapes, a WW 2 pt. bar (I *have* to have something to munch on during work in the am) & 2 diet cokes

I have with me for later - huge salad w/ f.f. dressing, apple, orange, dannon light n fit smoothie w/ flax seed oil. Oh yeah, and another diet coke (big diet coke junkie here!) But I do also bring one of those travel mugs from WDW. They are 12 oz. each, so I need to drink 4 of those per day of water, minimum.

Basically, this is what I eat at work every day. Just lately I tend to add to that - M&Ms from the vending machine, maybe a croissant or bagel w/ lt. cream cheese. If I just stick to the day's plan, I should be down next week. I just have to survive the junk withdrawl again. :rotfl:

Catch-up time!

Minnie – great job on the 2 lbs.!

Susan – isn’t it such a great feeling when your clothes fit better, or better yet – are loose? YAY!!!

Dkp – I used to love working out at my old gym years ago (pre-kiddo) on Friday nights! It was so empty, no fighting over treadmills, etc. Congrats on cutting down the soda intake too!

Miranda - a pastry chef not eating sweets? You are one strong woman! :worship: I am down the road in Nashua, by the way.

Jen – I am with you on the stress inteferring with weight loss!

Mel – I am the same as you with stress-eating. Regular stress - I eat. Servere stress - I literally forget to eat! Way back in the day when I got divorced, I dropped about 30 lbs. in a month or two without trying. I loooked great, but was going through hell. And WOO HOO for size 10s!!!

Beth – congrats on joining WWs! I joined Oct. ’04 and I think it’s great. I just wish I followed the plan a little closer.

Just a quick post to let you all know that I'm still here.

I've had a bit of a stomach bug for the last couple days and haven't felt like eating much. Anything I've had has been on plan though.

WISHing I feel better soon

Hope you are doing grand and will try to catch up later :grouphug:

Feel better soon Minnie!

I posted all of this week's training on the training thread so I will concentrate on food here. It has been a good week. I have been sticking with oatmeal or Kashi cereal for breakfast with either fruit, nuts or juice. This morning I was running a bit late so I grabbed a South Beach Diet bar and a cup of coffee. Lunch is normally out and this week I have had Mongolian beef with brown rice at PF Chang (Monday), a salad from Jack in the Box (Tuesday), and a yummy pasta dish they serve at Nordstrom (Wednesday). At lunch I usually have either a Diet Coke - I love 'em too Kristi, or unsweetened iced tea. Dinner was salad with turkey, fat free cheese and 2 tbls of ranch dressing (Monday), fat free lentil soup with an apple and peanut butter (Tuesday), stir fry with chicken and mixed veggies on brown rice (Wednesday). I have water with dinner each night. If I feel like dessert I have a sugar free chocolate pudding cup or an orange.

Today's lunch will be grilled salmon with a yummy salsa on a grilled portabella mushroom and dinner will be stir fry again. I will probably get a couple more meals out of what I made last night.

All of you WW gals are so brave. I'm not sure I would be up for the weigh ins but it sounds like that is a big motivator. My hat's off to all of you!

Have a great day!

Wow, Susan, your food sounds fabulous!

So, how is everyone today? I have really happy news to report. I saw a number on the scale this morning that I don't remember EVER seeing in my life! I know that somewhere along the line between when I was 155 at age 10 and at my highest in December 2004 (before my heart surgery), I had to have passed this number, but it is all a blur and nowhere in my memory recall. It was an amazing "moment" for me. I have to remind myself, though, that I only ended up eating 19 out of the 23 points I was supposed to eat yesterday and I was able to drink a ton of water because I was in my office all day and took a 16 oz bottle to the gym. I won't always be able to control those things, but for yesterday it obviously had a good impact.
I ended up eating a LOT of food yesterday, but it was all healthy.
B: coffee w/skim milk (.5)
L: salad (all green) w/fat free feta (1); 3 oz grilled chicken (2); 2 tsp olive oil (2.5)
S: apple (1); 94% FF popcorn (2); banana (2)
D: dr. praeger veggie burger (2); 1 sl FF cheese (.5); 1 cup whole wheat couscous (3); green salad w/2 tsp soy parmesan topping & FF italian dressing (0); 3/4 cup whole wheat pasta (2)

Today's menu looks like this:
B: 1 cup fat free plain yogurt (2) w/1 cup strawberries (.5) & sweet 'n low; coffee w/skim milk (.5)
S: apple (1)
L: green salad w/1 oz fat free feta (1); 6 oz shrimp (3.5) w/1/4 cup cocktail sauce (1); 2 tsp olive oil (2.5)
S: banana (2)
pre-gym food: 1 cup whole wheat pasta (3) w/soy parm topping & diced tomatoes (0)

That still leaves me plenty of points for a good dinner when I get home from the gym. I am still resisting using points for desserts or sweets except fruits, and I am trying to stick to core foods and am hoping to really jump-start my weight loss. Now, if I can just stick with this through the weekend, it would be great!

Just a drive-by posting to say that I just got back from my trip. Unfortunately, the cold, damp weather and being around so many people left me with a lingering case of the sniffles, which I'm valiantly fighting with vitamin C. I didn't run at all while I was there because I ended up doing the parks pretty much open to close everyday. I definitely didn't overeat, though I did treat myself to an ice cream sundae and a few cookies. I wasn't hungry enough for dessert at any of my meals.

Today I'm working out with my trainer.

It's good to be back. On the boards. Not back at home, I'd rather still be at WDW.

Minnie ( ) -- Feel better soon, sweetie! :goodvibes: pixiedust:

BR -- congrats on being so disciplined at WDW! You must be so proud of yourself! :yay:

Hey Hey all. I am so happy to report that 1) I did a TM workout last night, and 2) the scale is still down 5 pounds. WHOO HOOO! The weather is sooooo cold here that my water consumption is not so hot. I am really working on that. I usually get in the 64, but I am so used to drinking more.

Here is my day:
B: 2 eggs with toast
L: Left over whole wheat spaghetti with sauce
S:??
D: Maybe veggie lo mein. DH made dinner last night and made way too many noodles.

Cam - Yah for the scale. I am about 4 pounds from me pre-pg weight from my second daughter and 16 pounds from my pre-pg weight with number 1. Also, that pre-pg weight was my lowest weight from losing on WW before kids. I can't wait to get back there. From that point, I am about 20 pounds from me goal. That means I am about 34 pounds from my goal. Wooot Wooot!! I lost 30ish pounds last year, so I know I can be there by Christmas if I stick to my guns!!!

BR - hope you feel better soon. I came home with a bug from my trip to TX last week. It's a bummer. Get some rest and drink your fluids.

Minnie - hope you feel better soon also.
