As I've said in the past I work for an answering service and one of our clients after hours is a cable company. We take all their calls after 5pm until they open the next morning. Well, we get some really interesting calls sometimes. It makes me wonder how some people can be so obsessed with their tv's. I have to share just a few of the calls that I had last night alone. It seems I get the craziest calls on Sundays.
First there was the little old man that called to tell me that the time on his cable box was fast by one minute and 15 seconds. He said he sets his watch to some national time standard in Colorado and ours was off. (he called me at 9pm on a Sunday to tell me this).
Then, I always get calls from angry people that channel 205, or 209, or 250 is out. They are always so mean about it. I keep thinking to myself "there are 200 more channels you could watch!" Am I being weird in thinking this?
This was a free preview weekend where the subscribers could get an extra channel for free, but in order for a cable box to pick it up they had to reset their boxes which is fairly easy. Here are the steps. 1) unplug the box from the wall. 2) plug it back in. 3) wait 15 mins, hit the power button and it will be reset. That doesn't seem that hard to me, but lots and lots of people just can't understand that. I had one man tell me "you mean to tell me I can't watch tv for 15 mins?!" I just don't how to answer the customers sometimes.
Also there are sun spot problems that affect some channels in the afternoon this time of year. It doesn't last long though.
I love my job, and I love being able to help the clients that have real problems with their cable or cable boxes, but there are some things I think you just shouldn't stress so much about. I guess noone just knows how to read a book anymore!
