We just returned from our first trip to HHI and had a wonderful time until we were getting ready to check out this morning. The cast members were wonderful, the activities were fantastic, and in fact we had discussed how soon we could return. This morning I recieved a call, and several messages about a post on my Facebook. I had officially been hacked. I know that anyone can get hacked, but I am really careful about logging on in public places and this coincidentally happened only a couple of hours after I logged on with my password on the resort's "secure" network. The cast member at the front desk was less than helpful. Not that I expected her to do anything, but she left to get a manager, and he or she would not even come out to speak with us. The cast member relayed a message stating that this could have been from anywhere. I still find it to be too much of a coincicence and just would like to remind everyone that even if you think the network is "secure" be very careful. Thankfully no one fell for the scam, but the person was asking for money to be sent. They even set up an e-mail account very similar to mine to scam anyone who fell for it. Sorry to be long winded, but just don't want anyone else to go through what we went through as we were trying to pack and head home. It made for a ver stressful morning. We are still planning to return, but probably won't do much on my computer.

So sorry that happened to you! I have never logged in to my Facebook account on any other computer other than while I am at home. I can't access Facebook from work, and I don't travel with my computer. However, my FB account was hacked this year as well, so although it does seem coincidental that it happened while you were at HH, I really think it might not have mattered if you logged on at the resort or not. Hackers are just good at what they do! No matter how it happened, I am sorry it put a downer on the end of your vacation! I hope you got your account all straightened out. I'm a teacher, and somehow someone hacked my account and sent messages to everyone I was friends with (including some former students) basically telling them they needed to lose weight. I about panicked!:scared1: It was some sort of thing that said I had lost so many pounds in a certain amount of time and that they should try it too. Not exactly what I wanted sent out to everyone on my friends list! Good luck!

Were you on the WiFi network? WiFi networks are not secure unless they ask you for an encryption key.

I left HHI yesterday too. We had 3 macbooks with us and no problems. I don't know that you can necessarily relate the two.

no public network is "secure". If you log on, especially with facebook, you will stay logged on until you manually log out. Unless you know your computer settings well and have blocked out file sharing, etc it is quite easy for someone to access your computer. Not sure what you wanted the resort to do, they cannot control if another guest or even just a vistor that jumps on their network gets into you computer.

We were on the WiFi, but also was given a password to log in with. Now that I think about it, that was probably the password for the free internet. It just makes you think you are more secure. I do know that you can get hacked from anywhere, I guess it would have been nice to see a manager rather than a message via the cast member at the desk. I know they can't do anything, I didn't ask them to, just a little kindness. I won't rant any more, still trying to straighten this all out. Just glad I didn't do anything that could have been more of a problem( like banking).

I am sorry this happened, it is a pain.

But honestly if this had happened when you were home, which is just as likely who would you be upset with. :confused3

You didn't discuss on your facebook page you were going out of town did you?

They give everyone the same password. The scam you are describing is a common one. Did they email your friends and ask for money to be sent overseas? Say you were in trouble for some reason? This happened to someone I know who only used his home computer. Facebook is full of viruses and hackers and some of them are very good. Has nothing to do with the network you are on.

Are you sure they give the same password to everyone? It seems that this would defeat the purpose of having a password.
