Wonder takes strange course?

I just happened to look at Cruisemapper and noticed that the Wonder did a strange path today. She did a "Z' pattern, turning back toward the US for approximately 100 miles before turning again toward Hawaii. I wouldn't think they would have time to kill like that for no reason.

Possible they had a medical emergency and headed back toward shore to transfer the patient onto a coast guard boat? We just debarked the Wonder and the ship seemed to be running fine.

There was a twitter post from a guest on the Wonder late Wednesday night:

"We just made a hard turn to port, heading toward Oregon coast for a medical evacuation #DisneyWonder"

It included a picture from the channel on the Wonder that shows the ship's path, with the Wonder veering from the line to Hawaii directly towards the coast of Oregon.

There was a later reference to the captain's plan to get to shore or in range of a coast guard lift. There was no further info in the twitter discussion that I saw, and they would likely have only the sea connect now.

I'm on the ship now, they evacuated a guest via coast guard helicopter due to a medical emergency. We'd been heading east since around 1or 2pm and it was announced at around 4pm Wednesday it would be a 12 hour detour to Astoria Oregon for the medical emergency but later around 6:00pm it was announced that two coast guard helicopters would be meeting up with the ship at around 7pm. They finished the evacuation around 8pm. Today the ship stopped and started circling an orange lifeboat drifting in the water, turns out it was an abandoned lifeboat from a cargo ship that caught fire and sank in 2014. It's been an interesting cruise so far.

I watched that video and can't even imagine being on that stretcher! I suppose it's better than dying but still terrifying! And especially since the family wouldn't have been with them, so the rest of the group had to stay on board until Hawaii.

I feel that would be very stressful for a man of 71. I would find it stressful at any age!
