Wonder & Magic Summer 2012

Did a R/T Hawaii with RCI in 07 it is a 15 night cruise and seas are very rough! It took nearly 5 days to get to the first port and your actually time in Hawaii is about a week. I would do it again. The May 5/6 may mean the cruise leaves 10 days before that.

So.....everyone get out your crystal balls.

If the Wonder is going to be in Hawaii in May and again in Sept.....therefore somewhere further east in June/July/August....I wonder if maybe they'll be bringing up the Magic to do Alaska in Summer 2012 since both the Dream and Fantasy will be sailing the Caribbean by then? What do you think are the chances?!?

We currently have a dummy date we booked onboard to switch to an Alaskan cruise with DH's entire family- in the case that they announce it! Hoping, hoping, hoping!

Here is the thing, if they do switch to Alaska, then it seems they would not sail out of LA port, that definately kills it for me. However, I have this sinking suspicion that it will Alaska and not MR.

So even if I could warm up to the idea of an Alaska cruise, if the departure port is not LA that would be a deal breaker, because we want to see DL.

I wish someone with an in to the "Disney master minds" could leak some info, to those who are suffering in our angst of "what if"....:lmao: anybody?

Haha! We live in Seattle, so we're actually hoping for Alaska out of Vancouver- bc we can drive instead of all these pricey flights to FL! ;)

I do love DL though! I just don't think the grandparents and aunts/uncle share our excitement!

Noooooo!!!!! :guilty:

The first class of my "special" university honors students will graduate that weekend; there is no way I can miss that! So much for promising I would definitely be on the first sailing to Hawaii! :sad1: :sad2:

EDIT: I just realized they will graduate on May 5. So when might this cruise (or the next) depart? Praying for a miracle!

Just because a MR cruise does not do well during the slower months, why should they cancel all MR cruises during the busy season? I have kids I can not do Hawaii, or MR during the school year and lets face it Disney cruises are aimed primarily at families with kids, so they should run these cruises in the summer.

I am just frustrated that they may do Hawaii or MR, but not in the summer, really. Alaska holds no appeal to me at all and it does not leave out of the LA port, which is near DL.

I am waiting for the Wonder cruise announcement.

DCL's lack of ships will always disappoint someone as they can't do everything that cruisers love (Caribbean, Western Med, Eastern Med, Baltic, MR, Bahamas, Alaska, Hawaii, Asia, etc.). They seem to focus on popularity (aka profitability).

We have been patiently waiting for over 5 years for DCL to return to 7-night cruises out of PC in the summer and they are finally returning next year! We too can't/won't take our kids out of school anymore for vacation and we had no desire to do the shorter cruises. Had they not returned to 7-nights in the summer out of PC, we would have eventually gone with another cruise line.

I am talking about 2012(thread title 2012) and secondly do not assume.

If you were talking about 2012, then why did you claim DCL had cancelled itineraries that don't even exist yet? The Wonder has not been announced for summer 2012 or beyond, whether they go to Mexico OR Alaska. You might still get your summer MR cruise in 2012.

Also, I didn't assume anything. I was reacting to your use of the word "cancel" which 1) has a very specific meaning, 2) implies that a bad business decision was made on the part of DCL, and most importantly, 3) was not the truth. My response was certainly not based on whether or not you were a "newbie." I care about people saying things that aren't true, not what their post count is.

FWIW, yes, MR cruises for this year's spring break period do have all categories open, but they are not "beginning prices." They ARE cheaper overall compared to the cruises out of PC, but that's because they are introducing the concept of regular Disney cruising to a crowd that is used to the freedom of annual passes that are far less expensive than APs for WDW. We were on the 1/30 MR (LOVED IT!) and thought about rebooking for DD's spring break this year (instead of next year), but the price was much higher than what we'd paid to book last year.

As someone who also has school-age children, I too would very much like to see DCL options out of LA over the summer. Due to maritime law regarding foreign-flagged ships and weather concerns, however, this is unlikely to happen.

Out of the recesses of my mind I seem to remember that DCL did KSF for early 2011 MR and the Spring Break 10 MR this coming year. The April 17 is spring break as it sails on Easter this year. In fact I just checked this sailing and it seems wide open for 2a 2c. It would seem to me that this is not good indication that the MR itineraries are doing well. It will be interesting to see where everything lands. Hopefully we will all know soon and then we can crab about what they decided!!

:rotfl: so true, so true! I am just beside myself waiting to see where the chips fall or if my DCL dream is just going to go up in smoke for 2012 :rolleyes1

US too. We do have the Fantasy booked for a June 2012 Eastern, but I am very curious as to where the other two ships will be at that time. I am still holding out for Alaska (we understand that we have to leave from BC so that will add some major expense from the East Coast) but it is a once in a lifetime trip to Alaska. Hawaii would be nice but we are DVC members and hope to just fly there one day and stay at the new villas. I don't know what else is out there to do! Europe I guess. We will see..... to be continued

I am with you! I finally get hubby to agree to going on another Disney cruise and he wants to do the Med one. Except we can't this year!!! So of course, next year when we can, no Med cruises. I feel like I may have to just grab the kids and do a 4 night Dream by myself ;)

The last MR cruise should be April 22 meaning on April 29 the ship will go somewhere. It could go to Asia it could go to Alaska but then I would think you would have anoter set of ports in Hawaii. The Magic will not come out if it stays in the US it could still use PC and do a different departure day and do NY Bermuda and still use CC. or it could go to Europe but at gas at $9.50 a gallon I am betting not.

ohhh my kids are off from school april 28-may 13 2012 :goodvibes

sooo a 14 day cruise from LA leaving april 29, going to Hawaii may 6 & 7 and then on to where?....Oh where that is the question :wizard:

Have any of you figured out if there are more ports 'booked' in Hawaii than just Honolulu?

There is another thread discussing the rumors of Disney cruises out of New York or Baltimore, going to maybe Bermuda or New England/Canada. Baltimore is in the process of, or just recently, renovated and added another parking area to it's port (and parking was not a problem as far as I know), so maybe they are getting ready to expand. DVC is building a resort on the Maryland side of DC, so a cruise out of Baltimore would not be so far fetched. I'm crossing my fingers!

Has it been confirmed that DVC is building in D.C.? They usually announce those things VERY early on in the building process to get things going.....do you have a link you could share on this? I had not heard about it- and it'd be WAY cool! (Surprising, but very cool!)

It's funny about the Northeast ports....b/c it just seems so silly to me to sail out of any of them up there. I'm not sure why--but it prob doesn't seem silly to the DISers who live close to there and would love to NOT FLY like me, hoping for B.C. to Alaska next year! :) Would people actually pay big bucks to sail to New England/Canada I wonder?

Not silly at all....NYC/Bayone/Red Hook Brooklyn have a HUGE cruise market. We have done several cruises out of NY and it is awesome....such a site to sail past Lady Liberty and under the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge!! We have gone to Bermuda on NCL (7 days), a 2 night cruise to nowhere (we were off the Maryland coast), and 8 day cruise on Carnival to San Juan, St. Thomas and Tortola.....still want to do a Canada/NE England cruise.

During the summer months there are ships in port almost every day in NY and during the winter are some ships there as well (though not as many as in the summer months).

Check out the link for some info on cruising out of NY.. Look at the photo gallery...some cool pics of cruise ships in and round NY.

And yes, I Disney has confirmed they are building a hotel in National Harbor...not sure if it is a DVC or just a stand alone hotel but...

Here is a link...

Money that could have gone to the airlines becomes Disney's, this may mean a change from an inside to a verandah cabin!

I'm going to guess that DCL will do a repositioning cruise, starting in Honolulu on May 7th, cruising the islands, then going to Seattle (or Victoria) and ending in Vancouver to do the Alaskan again.

I think this because they'd probably like to encourage people to stay in the new Aulani resort prior to the cruise.

So maybe they do a LA to SD to Ensenada to Honolulu repo arriving May 6, and then May 7th is the repo cruise to Vancouver.

Yup, there is a big market out of New York, as well as out of New Jersey and Baltimore. Cruises to Bermuda tend to leave from those ports, and they are very popular. Those ports also have cruises to the Bahamas. The Canada/New England cruises are also quite popular from what I hear. Carnival and Royal Caribbean are the biggies out of Baltimore. All of the biggies...Carnival, Celebrity, Holland America, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Princess...sail out of New York. So yes, I could see how Disney might want to join the ranks of the huge market that is the mid-Atlantic, especially if they want to do Bermuda or New England/Canada cruises.
