Where are you guys staying for the first part of your trip? We are trying the WL for the first time this July. We are splitting the stay with our favorite -- the Boardwalk. We love the Epcot area.

We just got back from the YC three weeks ago and LOVED it. It is beautiful. One of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at. The service was excellent and Storm Along Bay is the absolute best pool I have seen at a resort. We also visited WL and it is very nice but I do not consider it to be in the same class as YC. The rooms are smaller. The pool smaller. It is however closer to MK than YC, so it really depends on where you want to be. All that said, we prefer the Poly. It has the right combination of atmosphere and location for our family. I doubt we will be staying anywhere else.

I just returned from the BC. The YC is now my favorite resort, but the WL is wonderful as well! If you are looking to rest and get away from it all, I would choose the WL. It's a smaller resort (not as much walking) and you don't get the "foot traffic" that you do at the Epcot resorts. It all depends on what you want to do.

Where are you staying during your other parts of the trip? I always resort hop, but I do so on a basis of location w/ WDW. My favorite combination is AKL for access to AK, Boardwalk for the Epcot area, and then GF for the MK (and the finale of the trip, since it is my all time favorite resort!). I also love the Wilderness Lodge (so many great Disney resorts to choose from !). They had some of the friendliest CMs I have encountered, and we had nothing go wrong there (except a drunk guest who mistakenly yelled at me, but that's more laughable than anything else :) ).

Anyway, the lodge is very beautiful and well themed...I think more nicely themed than the Yacht Club. It has a high rise lobby that is much prettier than Yacht Club's, and a stream through the lobby. The pool is wonderful, at the base of waterfallls and there are two jacuzzi's. It's great to be in a jacuzzi at night near the Lake with the geyser going off every hour. I love the wildflowers all around the property. Very authentic. Plus you have great access to horseback riding, jogging trails, petting zoo and show at the campground, etc. There is the electric parade on the water at night. The rooms are smaller at WL but we had a lovely view of the castle over the trees and liked the comfortable, relaxing feel of the resort despite the smaller rooms. For some reason, the rooms aren't as beautifully decorated as the rest of the resort. They are still very nice, but I'd question the choice of bedspreads :). The Yacht Club rooms are nicer with prettier decor (nautical), but I didn't feel as much Disney magic at the Yacht Club as much as the WL(probably due to the splendid CMs and the gorgeous foresty atmosphere). At the WL, our mousekeeper make angels and clowns out of our bathtowels :).

The Yacht Club feels busier, and less private, and there are less private kind of nooks around the resort to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. I have never thought StormAlong Bay was as exciting as other posters. It is definitely not my favorite pool area (I think AKL and GF's pool areas are much cooler, AKL b/c its near the animals and the jacuzzis are so fabulous, and GFs b/c it is so gorgeous to be on the seven seas lagoon--and from the zero entry waterfall pool it looks almost like the pool is extended to the Lagoon--just gorgeous at night!), though I did like the nearly private quiet pool at Yacht Club--we were by ourselves in the jacuzzi nearly every night--and since we had a first floor view of the quiet pool, we could walk directly out of our patio to the jacuzzi! So great.

Yacht Club is not as user friendly w/ the refillable mugs--it was quite a walk to refill my morning coffee from my room, and for sodas, there is no "caffeine free diet" (which they have at AKL and I love) and no self service refills--you have to have a CM do it at the beach grill or Beaches and Cream, which made me feel like I had to tip and negated the free refill. There is a market that has caffeine free diet sodas for 1.50 (or 2.50?) each and other items, all, again, high priced. I like the Epcot area but prefer the Boardwalk for that location based on the decor and being on the Boardwalk itself, or the Swan and Dolphin for lower prices and same deluxe amenities and location.

In any case, I would go w/ the Wilderness Lodge over Yacht Club. Hope any of this info helps :).

wow!!
thanks so much for your responses....
not that i'm closer to making a decision, but everything that you wrote really helped...
we've stayed at the YC several times, but never at the WL....that's what got me thinking about it...

this is our schedule:
Portofino Bay (universal) - 1 night
AKL concierge - 3 nights
GF concierge - 3 nights
Disney Cruise - 4 nights
YC concierge or WL concierge - 3 nights

i agree with what everyone has said about the YC....it's a beautiful hotel, but you don't get that secluded feeling there that you get at some of the others (dixie landings bayou section makes you feel that you're someplace else entirely....it's wonderful there)...
the thing is, we'll be at the GF for the first weekend, which means near the magic kingdom....so for the second weekend i picked the YC.....but we've never stayed at the WL....and i'm really wondering if maybe we should, even though it is a magic kingdom resort...
although on the other hand, we love walking into epcot from the YC...

decisions decisions.......

Even though its a MK resort, and you have GF booked (which is fabulous :) ), I would still go w/ trying out WL if you've never stayed there, and have already been to YC. WL is such a unique experience and you could try out the options there (boating, horseback riding, the geyser, etc). I've stayed in WL concierge and it was great--loved the food :).

Ladyhawke10--
thanks....i guess i should call disney and see if they even have the WL concierge for those dates....
my only fear is that we'll be disappointed and leave our wonderful trip with a bad last experience....we know what the YC is like already...
nah....i think we should live dangerously....ok...i'm going to make that call right now...

thanks for your help.....

Last December, we splitted our stay between YC and WL. We LOVED YC. When we moved to WL, we felt let down, even though it's our sentimental favorite as we honeymooned there. I would stick with YC. Or try BWI like we just did--we came back yesterday.:D

Oh, the pressure! I do hope you like WL. I love it but I was not all that wild about the YC so it's a personal thing. I do also like the Boardwalk Inn, as another poster suggested--it is my favorite Epcot resort. I think the Wilderness Lodge is a wonderful place and I plan on taking my mom there soon...she loves Grand Californian at Disneyland and I think they're similar.

well i made the change....
we're now booked into the WL concierge instead of the YC concierge....
my son loves the YC, my daughter hates the epcot area (not secluded enough...too little disney magic)...

my son was willing to go along with the WL since we've never done it before...

at least i've finally made the decision....i'm excited and apprehensive...

the room will be small....maybe i should book two rooms....just kidding....

Hope you have a great time at WL! I thought the concierge there was awesome :).

thanks!
another question for you since you definitely seem to be a WL expert...

if i can manage to snag a 2 bedroom villa (right now they're booked, but you never know), would that be preferable to the concierge room?....i'm thinking in terms of location and whatever else you can think of...
