Ok here is my dilemma... when we go to Disney it is usually with a large group and we stay of site.. this trip it is only DBF and I and I want it to be special... we have a little bit of money to play with and got the dining plan deal.. Here is my question.. do you think it is worth the extra $500.00 to upgrade to AKL or WL from POR this trip... I have stayed at WL and know he will love it.. I guess what is telling me to is that we are going in sept and I would rater be stuck in a lobby with people if a hurricane hits than stuck in our room... I know there will be as many opinions as there will be posts her but I need a new prospective!!

During a hurricane, I would feel safer in any WDW resort room, than my house. Disney has lots of $ sucked into those resorts. They can't afford to lose them, so their construction is sturdy. My biggest fear anywhere in Fl during a hurricane is a tree falling and causing damage. There are lots of trees at either POR or WL.

Assuming there is no hurricane, (hopefully there won't be since we had our share last year), I would have to ask if you plan to spend more time at your room or in the parks. If you only plan to be in your room for sleep, then go POR. If you plan to spend time in the room, stay at WL.

although i looove por... it is true though... having an indoor lobby is better than being an outdoors walking distance away from it.

i live in miami, they say we are supposed to get some big hurricanes this year (well, they say that every year :confused3 ) but last year was the first time in many many years that a hurricane has crossed orlando. orlando is where i would like to run to in order to escape the hurricanes down here. plus, being in a resort with an indoor lobby would make me feel much more safer if i had to be there during that time.

IF it was me I will stay at a WDW resort... My son works for PO/FQ and he is part of the ride out crew(hurricane).. and he was saying the guest perfered to stay in the lobby.. The kids were being entertain by the cast members.. etc.

You are right, we were there last year. When we were there Frances came to visit too. We were staying at WL, the CM's were great. They played games with the kids in the lobby. When we could walk around it was nice to be in the big lobby, and not getting wet just to go get food and drinks.
