Happy Anniversay, Judy! I am so happy for you and proud of how far you have come. :thumbsup2 :dancer:

Hi Everyone!

Happy Anniversary Judy! - Way to go!

Well, its raining cats and dogs and elephants here so I decided to run my 8 miles on the treadmill.

How does anyone stand being on the treadmill that long?

I know some of you do alot of miles on the treadmill and I have extreme respect for you because I thought I was going to go insane. My 8 miles seemed like 80! However, because it was so flat and steady I was able to finish in 76 minutes so thats a plus.

Any tricks for making the time on a treadmill easier would be appreciated because I am going to my inlaws for Thanksgiving and will have to do two LR(10 and 18!) while I am there. They borrowed a treadmill for me to use so I won't have to run on windy mountain roads in the cold.

Happy Anniversary Judy!!! Congratulations on sticking with it for so long. You are an inspiration!!!

Stepping in to say HOWDY FOLKS!

Hope all is well with everyone's trainig.

I'm stopping by my TNT chapter's training on Saturday. I am SOOOO jealous I want to RUN RUN RUN!

On that treadmill question: Cruella de Mom--the trick is a tv and a DVD if you are lucky. Impossible without any entertainment whatsoever ;).

Hi, Lisa! How are you feeling? I hope all is good with you and your family! :goodvibes:

Hi Lisa!

I was just thinking of you the other day!

Hope you are feeling well, wow, you are already half way through your pregnancy!

Wishing you the best!
Colleen

Lisa - Are you not running at all?? I met someone here locally in the running group and she ran up to about 8 months PG. She even ran a 1/2 marathon at about 5 months PG. I think she said it took her about 2:40 for the 1/2, mostly because she needed lots of potty breaks. I guess her doctor fully recommended it.

Now on the other hand... when I was PG the couch was my friend!!!!!

Judy - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

I am going to hit the indoor track soon. My daughter has gymnastics and the downtown YMCA's track is elevated above the gymnastics studio. So I can watch her and run. My back is giving me some problems still, so I thought I would keep my running light and easy.... oh wait, that is how I always run!!!

Have a great night all!!!

:wave2: Hello, Team!!!!!

Here are some of my strategies for long runs on a treadmill:

My overall strategy is to divide up the run into parts and follow a mental plan. Parts of the plan might include:

Read - For example, I will run 3 miles without reading, then I'll read Runner's World for the next three miles, then reset the treadmill, then run three without reading, then read yesterday's mail, etc.). Magazines and catalogs seem to stay in place, at least on the treadmills at my gym. From time to time, I will gaze at the WDW 1/2 Marathon and Marathon course map, and imagine where I would be if I were on the course.

Listen - Books on tape, the radio, a language tape (for you youngsters, replace the word "tape" with MP3, or CD if you are behind the times ;) ).

TV - (I don't watch TV at all anymore, but...) Years ago, and with a teacher's schedule, I would run at the gym from 1:30am on (depending on the length of the run). I would watch hours of late night TV (Letterman, Leno, Conan, or a bad movie... whatever was on). The show content ranged from boring, to amusing, to terribly offensive, but somehow, just watching the program made the miles and the time go by less tediously.

Visualization/Meditation/Prayer - I work on my character, count my blessings (including the gift of being able to run at all), and send thoughts of comfort, love, and support to others.

Mix it up - Interchange some/all of the above.

Bottom line - I really benefit from having a plan when I'll be on the treadmill for over an hour. Just like with a road run, you can expereince a series of smaller accomplishments on your way to completing the bigger goal.

We are almost there, gang!!! Keep up the collective awesome effort!!!! :thumbsup2 I sure am looking forward to meeting you all! :sunny:

Also, many thanks to all of you who have been so supportive of me over the past year. :grouphug: You have endured all my silly beginner questions and given me the best advice. I have no other coach, team, or trainer. It's all you guys. So when I stand at the starting line early on that Saturday morning in January, I know exactly who to thank for getting me there. All of you.

Happy anniversary, Judy! I'm sure all of us have asked those questions at one time or another (I think it was me last year :teeth: ). I do recall conversations about jog bras, going commando, and farmer blow that were all new to me last year!

Teri...great list of TM tips!

Lisa...great to see you around! Hope everything is going well with you and your family! Looks like you'll soon have a little prince to go with your princesses :lovestruc

Cecilia...congrats on your TM run! My limit is one hour...just can't do more mentally.

Carrie...I buy a lot of black workout pants so everything matches ;)

Krista...Hines is doing me pretty good. I get points for each touchdown catch and for total yardage. I also have Peyton Manning (even though he played for UT ;) ), Tiki Barber, Donald Driver, Adam Vinatieri and the Bears defense. I'm looking for a new tight end though...Jeremy Shockey hasn't been great for me!

Craig...thanks so much for the offer...I'll be sure to send you an email. I'm really interested in the adjunct prospect, though I'm not looking to give up my clinical job anytime soon.

I am cautiously optimistic tonight. I bought new shoes that arrived today...Saucony Grid Triumph and FILA Testament. I've noticed on my SR in my old standby purple ASICs, my arch feels like it's compressing with each step. I think they were great shoes when I was training at lower intensity, but now, may not have the arch support I need for the greater running impact. Tried the Saucony tonight and felt good. Still not quite as much arch support as I'd like, but the heel cushioning is great! I did 3 miles in 39:43 on the TM for a 13:14 pace. I'm planning to save the FILA's for my 8 miler this weekend...they have incredible arch support!

Hey guys! Thought I’d pop in for my once-a-week post (trust me, I am reading the thread, just haven't had time to reply).

Kevin—I’m with you on the 5 mile max on the treadmill. I’ll do more on it if I absolutely have to, but I get so sick of looking at the same walls after about 45 or 50 minutes. I need to watch a movie or something after that point.

Dave—count me in as one who thinks training is getting hard right about now. I’ve been tired a lot, although I’ve been trying to get more sleep at night. The lack of daylight in the evenings probably doesn’t help, either. But hey, we know we’ll all get through this (and reading this thread definitely helps with motivation).

Mel—wow, what a race. You are crazy. Nice job on the finish.

Cam & Howard—I’m a little late on this one, but as everyone else has said, you are both in our thoughts and prayers.

Judy--Happy Anniversary! :lmao: about the stockings. It’s funny how this crazy obsession we are all into opens up a whole new world of Christmas presents, huh? I know the rest of our family thinks Krista and I are crazy when we open “running gifts” from each other and actually get excited about it.

Carrie—is there really such a thing as fashion for distance athletes? And to think Krista still rolls her eyes at me when I put on dark blue shorts and a black shirt to go run in.

Teri—thanks for the advice on treadmill running. I may have to try some of those tips the next time I’m forced to do over an hour indoors.

Well, training is going fine so far this week. I’m out of town for work, so I had to find a gym in Plainfield, Indiana, to get my runs in (not an easy task in a town as small as Plainfield :) ). My LRs last weekend took their toll on me. The 9 on Saturday was fine, but the 17 on Sunday was not fun. Just couldn’t get into a rhythm. I felt tired and I was just glad to get it over with. This is the first time in training that I’m beginning to think Goofy is going to be difficult. Anyone who trained for it last year—did you ever feel like this in training?
On a better note, the Kayanos are working out great. I’m just getting them to the nice, broken-in stage (you know, the point at which the shoes stop looking brand new and you feel like you can go out in public with them because you don’t look like a new runner with spanking white running shoes? :) ). I’m getting a little bit more heel slip in them than I’d like, but I’ll work through that.

Well, happy training everyone, and Hi to everyone that I missed. We’re almost there—only 51 more days till the WISH dinner!

Steve

Good evening everyone.

Judy - Happy Anniversary.

Cam - I'm still searching for a pair of running shoes my feet agree with also. Four separate pairs, still no luck.

Ran 4 slow miles on the treadmill this evening.

Mel, that's a pretty decent fantasy team. I wish I had the foresight to draft a few of those players. Can I trade you my entire team for yours? :) Actually, can I trade you my entire team for just Peyton Manning?

Hey all! Missed a training day yesterday, and going to try 12 tomorrow (and yuck, it will be on the treadmill!) Will definitely use those tips for getting through it.

Now, quick question. Tonight I've been having this burning pain in the middle of my hamstring, from about (forgive me) my rear end to the middle of my knee. Any thoughts????? Hasn't hurt to run, but then again I haven't run in a couple of days.

Stephanie

Hi, everyone! I hit the treadmill tonight. Covered 4.33 miles in the first hour -- pace was 13:51 for that and then decided to go one more mile and did it in 13:36. Overall, it was 5.33 miles in 1:13:51 -- overall pace 13:49. I think that is only about 12 minutes ahead of the sweepers, but on a good day, that could be close to a mile for me. Still, the 13:36 felt like a huge accomplishment. I figure since I haven't had time for good LRs, I will just try to get miles in whenever possible. Betwen last night and tonight -- 9.43 miles.

I KNOW that finding new shoes will help a lot. Now that I am jogging so much more I can really tell that the padding is shot in my shoes even if they don't have a lot of miles. Anyone who's seen me knows this very large body would put a lot of wear and tear on a pair of shoes. Keeping fingers crossed that kayanos are the key!

Hi WISH Team!

I haven't had time to read these last couple of days. I thought I'd at least report that I've put in the steps though. Last 2 nights on the TM for my 45 minutes or so. Then Pilates 20 minutes. Going to read now to see what everyone has been up to.

Happy Anniversary Judy! I LOVE that you keep the date. You are amazing!

Dave, it is a good idea you have about changing up and listening to your body. You will do well.

Anyone else struggling, don't worry...YOU CAN do it! You've been putting in the steps all along and this is the time to get the distance. The rest will fit in nicely.

I had a wreck and felt really bad last training year. I thought I would never be able to get over the finish line of that full. I kept at the schedule, listened to my body telling me to ease up during the week so I could get the LRs in and somehow it came together.

Teri, great TM tips. That's what I did when I logged my 22 miles last year. Book, mag, TV. I so hope I don't have to put in TM time for these upcoming LRs.

Howard, great to hear from you. Thinking of you often sending PD and prayers that you are managing with the load you've got.

Stephanie, I don't know what to say about that pain. Sounds like a sciatic type pain. I don't know what to do to ease it.

Vic, good job. I'd say any miles on TM are slow for sure no matter the TM speed indicator.

Lisa, Good to hear from you. You are missed here. it's a Boy! How exciting.

Bed time now. Good night all.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I'm waking up before heading to the pool for a SWOG. Pool opens at 6:45am.

Dave...so does the trip seem more real now? Can we expect to see you and the fam at POR for dinner on Fri night?
Mel- I forgot to reply to this, but yes, the trip seems much more real now that I told DW. She's being very funny and asking me if I ran today. She says, "you gotta train so we can go to WDW." I'd like to go to POR for dinner on Fri night, and it's on the schedule. I need to see a little bit what the fam wants to do. I really want to meet all my teammates, but I'm going to defer to the family vote about where they want to go to dinner that night since I'm getting my way for so many other things on this trip. I hope we'll be there though.

Unfortunately I was way way too sick in the beginning and for a very long time. To attempt running at this point wouldn't be a good idea. I had to drop the DL Half b/c of being sick b/c I had no ability to exercise.

The plan was to run--but as typical with my kiddos--the morning sicknes is just wayyyy too ugly.

Oh I like that one! Although I think my prayers would start sounding like this "please let me finish this run...thank you that I can run ...please let me be finished....."

I am going to try a book on tape during the holidays. I used to like to listen to those when I had a long commute to work.

Thanks for the help!

Real quick post b/4 work! So I have really skimmed and will miss stuff or get it wrong!

I am doing 20 tomorrow so lots of :wizard: . It is funny, I have done 6 maratons and tons of 20+ mile runs, but I always get a little nervious about that long of a run. :confused3
Anyway...even with all the dreadmil tips...if I had to do a 20 miler on the dreadmill, I think I would kill myself! :faint: or at least go  !

Judy - HAPPY Anniversary! That is so great and look how far you have come. I was thinking about you the otherday and kinda giggled to myself...I was remembering your reaction when I finished the Goofy last year. Weren't you in a public place? :rotfl2:

Lisa, glad to see you are good! Don't worry about the running...there is plenty of time for that after you finish this most important task! Isn't it so cool that as a woman, this is our one chance to help God make something....well I know God really doesn't need our help, but I think this is the closest we come to helping. My babies love to hear about when they grew inside of me...

Dave - so glad DW is excited! You must be a wonderful husband! Congrats...BTW, did she not wonder why you were still doing such high mileage? :)

Howard - MAN! You are doing it all! lots of :wizard: :wizard: to you and wonderful Cam! We love you guys! :grouphug:

Traveling with kids...I agree with everything and have nothing to add....surprising!

Well that is all I have time for....I hope next week slows down a bit for me.
