For the last 30 mins of the paddle i was actually worried that i was hypothermic. I was shivering and could not feel my hands and feet....

I thought i was either going to turn into an instant popcicle or puke....

OMG, Mel, this was CRAZY exciting to read, it is like The Amazing Race taken to the extreme!

Congrats on your placing!

Did it in 42 min...my last mile I was doing a 7something mile :cool1: I blame stress that I am trying to "run" from...HaHa! :lmao:

Hope everyone is good...I hope to catch up soon.

Dave - So very happy and excited to hear that DW loved the surprise and is psyched to go to WDW in January!! :cool1:

Colleen - I totally count my blessings because I know that I would never be able to train effectively without my DH's constant support and assistance, both with the time aspect and the motivation & reassurances.

Mike - I hope your DW continues to improve. :wizard:

Wendy - Congrats on your marathon finish. :cheer2:  I am off to read the report soon.

MelR - You're feats just leave me speechless  Great race report. Congrats on placing!! :woohoo:

Congrats to all who had awesome LR's this weekend.

I am in Philly on business and had the pleasure of dining with Cam and Howard last night. :) It was a great time and it reminded me of how lucky I am to be a part of this awesome group. :grouphug: Thanks Cam!!

8 miles this am on the hotel treadmill. Tomorrow looks to be the same...

Best of luck to all with training this week. It looks like everyone is on a positive upswing in both pace and great LR's. Yeah team!!

Whoa MelR, thanks for the race report. Congratulations, and get some rest! I am very, very impressed with your race. WTG! The Boy must be very proud...

Woo Hoo, MelR!

That was amazing! I was thinking Amazing Race also! Congrats on placing too!
(ok, enough with the exclamation points...! :teeth: )

Last night Mom & I hit the Y. We did 30 mins. on the bike, then a few laps on the track. My Mom hadn't tried out the track yet, so she wanted to see it.

Today is my rest day & I think I am going to keep it that way. We went to the Y way too late for me last night. I got about 4.5 hours sleep before getting up this morning. I am beat!

Great job, Mel!

Ah, that is so cool, glad you all had a great time!

I went for lunch yesterday with a friend to a Chinese place and whoa, was I sick after! :crazy2: Not sick to my stomach but migraine-headache-kind of sick. I was flat on the sofa for the rest of the day. I had an adverse react to MSG. I am usually pretty careful, but ohhhhh the pain! :guilty:

I spent most of the night popping Tylenol and keeping icepacks on the back of my neck. That seemed to help. So there was no workout for me yesterday. I am going to help at the Book Fair at my kid's school this morning and then hopefully a run and weights this afternoon.

Colleen

Good Morning TEAM: Quick drive-by post for me before getting to work.

Yesterday I ran 60 min on the treadmill after work. It was a tough run, and I included my 5 min wu and cd in my 60 min. Maybe I was tired from the work day, legs still recovering from my 16 miler on Saturday, or I'm fighting off the bug that my DD5 princess: and DW have? I don't know. Anyway, I decreased my speed to 5.5 mph (~10:54 mpm), and I did my 9R/1W intervals. I got through it, and ended up with slightly over 5 miles. I got a good night sleep, woke up this morning and did my 40 min x-training. I was at the pool and swogged for 40 min. That felt good, and my legs are feeling good now too.

OK, gotta run, errr, I mean work. Talk to you all later.

Hi, everyone! I have missed you all terribly! Except Sara, of course, who we had the pleasure of visiting with Sunday night. She was a great sport and suffered through a disastrous dinner I cooked after having had no sleep, no time to shop and being totally distracted. But she brought us AWESOME muffins and zucchini brownies and wine! What a sweetie! Thanks, Sara!

We really, really appreciate all of your kind words and condolences and good wishes. The really good thing about the visitations and funeral this weekend and that we were so reassured about how many people loved Dave soo hugely! People came from every part and era of his life, going back to grade school, high school, every job he had ever held, the professional men for whom he caddied at the various golf courses, every sport team he ever played on, etc. etc. What more could we ask at the end of our lives to have been respected and loved by all who knew us? And everyone we met treated us so well and shared how much Dave talked about us and how the trip to WDW was the fulfillment of a fantasy for him. We mourn our loss but celebrated his life. And I really appreciate that you let me share that here. :grouphug:

So, I've only had a chance to skim the end of last week's thread and this week's but there has been so much good stuff going on for our WISH team.
Dave -- I am so glad that DW is so supportive and excited about the trip!
Melissa -- That race sounds grueling. Congratulations on an absolutely awesome finish!
Judy -- you and Charlie and Mist remain in my prayers. I know today is hard on you, but I hope the resolution keeps Mist in your loving care. pixiedust:
Mike -- thank God your DW was not more seriously injured and is home now. Please give her extra (gentle) hugs from all of us.
Rhonda -- your LRs are so good you are scaring me. How in the world am I ever going to keep up with you? Great job, sweetie. How did you ever doubt your ability to pull this off? I am so proud of you.
Craig -- I am thinking so much of you and your family and hoping that DW's recent interview went well and that DD is doing great. How exciting to see how well your training is going! I hope it continues to be so enjoyable for you.
Lily -- thank you, as always, for your very wise words, reminding us that the event is to be enjoyed and there really is no need for speed. It is so reassuring to know what great company I'll be in at the back of the pack! :thumbsup2
Jen -- I give you a lot of credit for doing all those laps. I'd go nuts! At least on the TM I can read a book and watch CNN!
Karen -- thank you for your kind words. Your 6 mile LR looked great! I think I remember seeing orange powerade and red on the course, but I am not sure there is any guarantee that they'd have those same flavors this year.
Christa -- OMG! That pace! :woohoo:
Kristi -- congrats on the M&G. I love the GGD, but really wish Johnny would get rid of the "lawyers suck" sticker on his guitar. :teeth:
Colleen -- I hope you are feeling better. Migraines are so debilitating. Sending pixiedust: for a better day today. I hope at least that the chinese food was the best you ever had! ;)

Congrats to everyone who got out last weekend and got those steps in! And I am sorry for everyone I missed.

I will try to check back later. I am hoping to report on some solid miles tonight on the TM. Losing 2 weekends in a row of training and scrambling all week to catch up on work and life has NOT put me in a very positive frame of mind re: where I wanted to be right now in my training. But hearing about how my teammates are doing here always motivates me! :grouphug:

Good morning Team. :3dglasses

Today I did 30 min on the TM @ 13:20 @ 1%. I figured I better start going by pace, not speed. Oh no! Looking ahead to Saturday we have a LR of 8 miles and Charlie wants to go to the track! ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz.... OK, OK, I'll stop whining and just do it.

Jen - Oh thank you for saying I'll be way ahead of the sweepers! You KNOW how I feel about them (See my tag!) I have nightmares of a giant hook coming out of the crowd and pulling me off the course.

Karen - Thank you for the :wizard: for Mist. The trial is NOT going well at all....

Melissa - OMG Colleen said it best! That was cRaZy exciting to read for REAL! Oh the things you do! You go girl! :woohoo: Wow, how adventurous you are!

Ohhhh...THERE's the missing Christa! :wave2:

Vic - I don't think I said this before, so... :welcome:

Colleen - Ouch! I hope you are OK today.

Cam - Oh, that does sound lovely, having everyone remember him and share stories. :flower3:

Morning all!!!

I really must do a better job of checking in.....

Cam-- I'm glad to hear that the service brought both you and Howard some comfort. All my best.

Paul-- Great LR!! 11:24/mile for 20; I'd take that right now. :thumbsup2

Vic-- :welcome:

Dave-- Glad to hear that your "reveal" went well. We all knew it'd be fine. :teeth:

Mike-- :wizard: for a speedy recovery for your DW.

Mel-- Congrats on the adventure race. You are a stronger woman than I. (Well, actually I'm not a woman at all.... but you know what I'm saying...) :teeth:

Judy-- 8 miles on an outdoor track won't be too bad, I promise. Put it to you this way, during last year I faced the true horror of doing 16 and 18 miles runs on a 1/9th mile indoor track--- literally HUNDREDS of laps. Luckily that never came to pass.

Carrie-- We actually had the confrence championship locked up the week prior. This was more to guarantee a #1 seed and a first-round bye. So I get a weekend off!!!!!! :yay: All the better to get my back-to-back in, I guess. As for an unsung hero, only in my own mind. :lmao: (And, could the weather BE any grosser???)

This is a VERY long running week-- 5/8/5 on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and then 9/18 back to back this weekend So that's...... 45 miles. :faint: As far as I'm concerned, this is the "Goofy tester." If I can get through this sucessfully and finish my training, I'll be fine on January 6th and 7th. I have a pretty easy week, too, so there is no excuse for shorting my training. So I'm enlisting y'all to stay on me about getting it done. :listen:

OK, back to the grind!!
Kevin :earsboy:

Well, today I am resting instead of running. I am such a wimp! As I have said before, I have a back injury which may have caused some compression in my spine. The doctor says if I can live with the pain, I should because they don't want to do surgery too soon for the fear of having to do it again later. So... now I have sciatic nerver pain, which is worse than the back pain. I haven't had sciatic pain since I was pregnant. So now I am trying to do all those back stretches to make it feel better. The funny this is that it doesn't hurt when I run, just when I wake up or am sitting for awhile. It is literally a pain in the ars!

Judy - I did 8 miles last Saturday on the indoor track... 96 laps. And my MP3 player died at 5 miles. You can do it!!!

Cam - So glad you are back!!!

Ok, since I was gone from work yesterday and so far have spent the morning doing nothing... I need to get to work. There are so many sickly coughing people at work that I was wiping down surfaces and being anal with the Lysol. There is NO WAY I am getting sick this close to the marathon!!!!

Good Morning, W.I.S.H. Team!!!
You all are such a great group of people!!! (Kristi, there can never be too many exclamation marks for me! :lmao: ) Through trials and tribulations we can come here and get comforted or :cool1: kicked in the booty!! We can celebrate our accomplishments with others who really understand!
MelR..as Judy would say, OMG, OMG, O..M...G!!! Thank you so much for your report AND pictures. My mind would love to do what you are doing, my body wouldn never handle it. You are an AWESOME woman. Congratulations!!!
Dave, so glad that the reveal is over!! You did a great job on the box with the layers! What a good idea! Now, both of you get to plan on how to reveal it to the princesses! Can you believe you actually finished 16 miles??!!
Cam and Howard, thanks for letting us share in the celebration of your FIL/F's life. He sounds like he was an absolutely wonderful person. If Howard is a result of his influence, then he surely was. I can vouch that ANY meal with you two and Andrew is better none. You could have just thrown chips and dip and Sara would have been just as happy, Cam! It's the company that's important!! ;)
Kathy How's the shoulder healing? I know you are out there lurking! :magnify:
Well, I am doing like Lily says and trying to just get the steps in. I'm in awe of all of you who have children at home, work and try to train! I come here to get inspired to get out there. Thanks! :sunny: Anne

Anne - you are right, I do spend alot of time lurking. Thanks for asking about the shoulder. I hope to get out of the sling on Nov 22. The PT is happy with my progress for getting the range of motion back using passive motion only. I have actually been following orders and have not driven since the surgery. I HATE being dependent on others but I also don't want yeat another surgery. Even after the sling come off, I will be restricted on using the arm for another 6 weeks. Agressive strength training will begin in January.

I have been tagging along with Lynne while she does her long weekend runs. The first Sat I walked 5 while she ran 12. Last weekend I walked 3 on Sat and 5 on Sun. Sunday was on ashphalt and my foot began to hurt at mile 3.5. The 5 mile done the week before were painless and done on hard packed dirt. I guess my foot doesn't like the road.

Judy - :wizard: for a good outcome for Mist.

Cam - good to see you back posting. You will do fine in Jan. I will be there as a spectator only but will be cheering everyone on.

Dave - glad your reveal was sucessful. Now you have to tell the Princess's or are you going to wait until you head for the airport?

MelR - great job on the adventure race.

Christa - great time. You could finishe the race twice in the tie it would take me to do it once.

This weekend, Lynne is scheduled to do 18. We have talked about going to Lake Placid, if the weather cooperates, for her to do it. I will walk 5-6 miles while she is runnning. I usually pace her on my bike but don't dare trying to do it one handed. I can't afford to mess the shoulder up once again and the sling would get in the way.

To those I have missed, great job with the training. I'm jealous of all those racing this Jan. I will just have to train for 2008.

Have a great day.

Two words Kathy, Christmas gift. I'm planning on wrapping up the princesses tickets and giving them to them as Christmas gifts. Assuming everything goes OK between now and then with the training.

I'm glad your shoulder is making some progress. Hang in there - we'll see you soon on the roads again. Hmmm, I have 18 too this weekend. Where does Lynne run in Lake Placid? Although I can't go too far because DW and I have to watch the Michigan/OSU game.

solo - You mean 38 and raining is not your idea of fun? I try to keep reminding me that there was snow on the path by this time last year. Still not sure it's helping. Good luck this weekend! We'll be running in Ann Arbor, which is as close as I get to the big game as it's shopping with the ILs after our run. :guilty: Oh look, it's raining again. :rolleyes2

Christa - Way to go on the apce!!

Cam - Welcome back! We missed you guys! That is the best anyone could ask for. What a great thing, although sad at the same time. Firends don't go to your house for the food, although I'm guessing it's typically wonderful, they go for you!!!!

Kathy - GOod to see you! WIsh you were training for 07 with us. :( Glad things are gettign better, though.

Kristi - Due to late phone calls and a monster cat, I got about the same amount of sleep. Hope you can get more tonight!!!

MelR - You just amaze me!

Jen - Those laps are insane! :worship: *DOn't tell anyone, but I think I prefer cold and rainy to that. :rolleyes1

Anne - Airborne got us through Christmas with teh germ-infested families and plane travels very nicely last year. I highly recommend it!

COlleen - Hope you're doing better today!

Dave - Thanks for rubbing it in. As I noted in my post to Kevin, We'll be running in Ann Arbor, which is as close as I get to the big game as it's shopping with the ILs after our run. :guilty: Oh look, it's raining again. :rolleyes2 Talk about the game of a lifetime.

I did 60 last night. My tendons behind my knee are still bothering me. Not hurting when I run, but after is not so good. I iced and did icy hot and it's better today. We'll see. I think I'll try to take it easy Saturday. LRs are hard of rme to do that sometimes, but injuries now ar enot good either.

Big revelation! We never roke 11 after October last year. Part of that was snow, but I haev not been over 11 in a while. So, I'm hopeful that we really are in better shape than last year.

Mel...that is darn amazing! Congrats on your finish! We played a LOT of disc golf when I was in grad school...back then it was just great cheap entertainment. There's a couple courses here, but not as nice as what we were used to, so we don't play much anymore. We are hoping to get in a few holes when we're in Gainesville next weekend for T'giving.

Carrie...okay...tell me the secrets of the ice bath. I'm having the knee tendon thing too in my bad foot leg. I'm afraid ice baths maybe in my future...along with orthotics :guilty:

Kevin...if you have any pull, we could use a little bump up in the BCS national rankings. Just from #4 to #3...'kay? :teeth:

Dave...so does the trip seem more real now? Can we expect to see you and the fam at POR for dinner on Fri night?

Anne...how's your training going?

Jen...LOL...hand-washing is a fabulous cold deterrent! :wizard: for your sciatica. I had it with my first pregnancy...not a fun game :sad2:

Judy...did we run on the same TM today? I did 30 min at a 13:18 pace!

Sara...yikes...8 TM miles! Anyone think TM miles should count double? ;)

Kathy...great to see you back! Are you able to work with your shoulder all slung up?

Christa...I've been running from stress, too, this week. Maybe it's contagious.

Cam... :grouphug: hope things start to settle down a bit for you guys.

Krista...how's your ankle doing?

Craig...great to see you back around too! How's school going?

Sunny...how are things with you?

Burning question of the day: I've read that full marathoners tend to hit the wall around mile 20 in a race. Do y'all think this is because most training programs top out at 20 miles?

Oh...one more thing...any tips on airline travel with the wild todd would be appreciated. We're looking to take an out-of-state vacation next year when she's 4. Is this crazy?

Hi Team! I just back from doing 6 miles on treadmill (watching Pirates of the Caribbean helped pirate: ), I finished in 1:02, I am pretty happy with that pace. Since I did my lr on Sunday, it totally screwed my whole week up, I'm going to try to run Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday in order to get all 3 runs in. I've run back to back before, but never back to back to back so this should be interesting. I'm to try to run slower tomorrow so I don't have 3 hard runs in a row. Now I remember why I don't like messing with my long runs!!

If anyone is interested, I have a trip report started on the trip report board from the marathon. I've been working on it for a while, just haven't posted it yet. Actually, I was meaning to post it on mouseplanet, where I have probably 5 or 6 trip reports, but I haven't quite finished it yet and since I can type and post on the dis, I'm posting it here.

Cam--Continued prayers this week for your family. What a blessing your father in law must have been.

MelR--That adventure race sounds wild! I can't believe you do that and on a regular basis! You are an amazing athlete.

Mel--Funny you should ask about my ankle, as I just tried to run without my brace tonight. I made it almost 2 miles before I had to stop and put it on because my ankle started to ache. Once I put the brace on, no pain, at least in my ankle. I hate running in the brace, it hurts the bottom of my foot so bad and I have to stop 2 or 3 times a run to re-adjust the tightness of the brace. It's a real pain!! How did Hines Ward do for you Sunday? I thought of you when he scored his TD. Do you get points when a player has a certain amount of yards too? I'm not sure if he broke 100, but he came really close.

Carrie--Shopping over a football game?? Especially Michigan and OSU??? I'm shocked!!!! ;) I hope your knee starts feeling better soon.

I have 3 words for you...
PORTABLE DVD PLAYER!

Seriously, the best thing ever! With noise reduction headphones since the plane is so noisy. We have 2 players and both of them only have a battery life of about 2 hours though.

Zack_Plane2.jpg

Also, maybe some little cheap new toys - maybe something fron the Dollar store, a new book, those color wonder markers and papers. We also get by with lots & lots of snacks. I usually bring a small backpack with some new little toys to keep Zack occupied.

We've been flying with him since he was 11 mos. and have done fine. We also have been doing the 22 hour drive to FL (many times) since he was 6 mos. He does really well as long as he has movies!

I ditto the above from Kristi.

When we went to CA this summer, I secretly bought the girls Doodle Bears. I see they have Doodle Monsters now too, great for boys. The only problem is that the markers aren't washable on clothes, so you have to be careful. Color Wonder Markers are awesome tho!!

If you are driving, then I also recommend the Leap Pad thingys. We have one and it kept our daughter occupied for quite awhile.
