Unfortunately I was way way too sick in the beginning and for a very long time. To attempt running at this point wouldn't be a good idea. I had to drop the DL Half b/c of being sick b/c I had no ability to exercise.

The plan was to run--but as typical with my kiddos--the morning sicknes is just wayyyy too ugly.

So Sorry to hear you had morning sickness. I didn't get that with either of my kids and count my blessings every day for that!!! Take care of yourself and can't wait to hear the announcement when your little bundle enters the world!!!!

As for me, I ran the track last night for 35 minutes. My back was hurting, so I gave up. As I was almost done running, someone came up behind me and freaked me out a bit. It was the leader from the running group I did this summer. So he ran with me for about 7 minutes and we talked for a bit. He is a 8 minute per mile runner, so I told him not to let me hold him up. He said today was a slow, easy day for him, so it was ok... THEN YOU KNOW WHAT HE SAID... "You have picked up some speed"..... Oh bless his heart. That made me feel good. And I was having a really cruddy run because my back hurt.

Well, back to work junk. Happy training everyone!!!

Good morning team!! :sunny: I hope everyone is having a good day. I'm so glad that it's almost the weekend, I'm not particularly looking forward to running 16 miles, but I'm so glad to get some time off. Training and getting into upper mileage is starting to take it's toll on me too, I feel okay, I'm just tired all the time. It feels like all I do is work, run, and sleep--my house needs a good cleaning, I have 3 loads of laundry that need to be folded and put away and another couple that need to be washed, but I just don't have any energy. I don't even want to think about Christmas coming up, I'm going to try to buy as much online as I can to save myself the shopping. I don't know how you guys who have kids do it!! I think I've been pushing my runs too hard lately, trying to get the pace up, but in the process I'm wearing myself out. I did 4 miles last night right around 41-42 minutes, I forget the exact time, I was doing 10:20 miles which was great, but is finishing a couple of minutes faster worth aching calves and a stiff knee? I have 4.5 miles tonight, I'm going to take it really slow though, this is my 3rd day running in a row and I don't want to risk injury.

Judy--Happy Anniversary!!!!! My anniversary is May 23, 2005--that's when I signed up for the WDW half marathon. How is the trial with Mist going?

Cecilia--I do not envy your treadmill runs! The longest I've ever done on a treadmill was 8 miles, and that was plenty long enough. I do all my weekly runs on the treadmill though, anything under 45 minutes and I can listen to my mp3 player, but on runs longer than 45 minutes, I watch movies on our portable DVD player. Good luck!!

Mel--I like Heath Miller as a TE. ;) That is a pretty awesome team you've got there, I'm especially jealous of Payton Manning--he's a phenomenal QB. Good luck with your shoes, it's about time for me to get a new pair, I'm really close to 200 miles on mine so I need to start phasing them out over the next few weeks.

Lisa-- :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for the prince!! I'm glad that you popped in to say hi!

Dave--Your DW sounds adorable! You better be careful or she'll be out there with a whip pushing you to go faster and further!! ;) Has she bought her Crocs yet? I    mine. In fact I'm going to buy the new Mary Jane model before January. They are so cute!!

Colleen--Thanks for getting the pace groups together. That took some work! How's your head feeling?

Cam--Good luck finding new shoes! You have had a terrible time finding something comfy to run in. Great job on your 5 miles last night.

Christa--Good luck on your 20 miler! Wow! That is a long way (I'm not going to think about the fact that I will be running 20 miles in less than a month). I hope that work lets up a little bit for you.

Sunny--Thank God that Sonya is fine. I can't imagine what you must have been feeling.

Hi LIsa, it's so great to hear from you :goodvibes

Cruella-- the TM has it's pros. Like others said, you can watch TV or read (I can't read because I can't focus on the bouncing words), I mostly do music. But you can totally lose yourself in thought (prayer, daydream, imagery) whereas on the road you must keep somewhat vigalent of traffic, bumps in the terrain, etc. I find its best not to look at the readouts. Put a towell over them if you can't keep from peeking. I go by songs, I'll tell myself I'll check my progress after 10 songs, or something like that. I also spend alot more time visualizing the race on the TM than I do on the road.

I did 45 mins arc trainer last night. I'm headed for the TM in a few minutes now.

Sunny

I managed to get up early and hit the streets just after day break. Here are the results.

Mile 1: 9:48 (approximated, the Garmin wigged out)
Mile 2: 9:23
Mile 3: 9:37
Mile 4: 11:27
Mile 5: 10:15
Mile 6: 9:46
Mile 7: 9:52

7.46 miles overall.

Christa & Craig:

Thank you for the thoughts. I am trying to hold it all together and looking forward to just being busy again and not hardcore crazy busy. I miss the time to train properly and worry about its implications at WDW during the Race and a Half. I will do everything I can before then to make it all work out.

Speaking of dreadmills,,, It was raining this a.m. so I had to go to the gym to get my 4 miles in. BOY DO I HATE DREADMILLS  SO BORRRRRING~!!!!! But at least I got those steps in. Kudos to those that use them regularly & for longer amts of time.

LLP- good to "see" you again. Take care of yourself!

Judy-Happy anniversary :thumbsup2 I also could not have done this without you guys. I am working on my 3rd 1/2 mary in a year for cryin out loud. I'm telling you , join this group & the aliens take over your body ;)

got to go get a shower & hit the errands. Have a great day everyone :teeth:

Greetings all. :dumbo:

Today I did 45 min @ 3.9 @ 1%. I wasn't feeling very inspired for some reason. :confused3

Thank you to everyone who sent me happy anniversaries! :cheer2: I celebrated with a fat-free sundae. Boy, if that isn't an oxymoron, I don't know what is!

Carrie - Extra spunk? Is that what I have?? :lmao:

Steve - Oh I'm glad you like the Kayanos. I had a bit of an issue with heel slip too, but I tried lacing them differently. The RW website has different lacing patterns you can try. It seemed to help. :thumbsup2 Figures, about the only thing even remotely slim on me is my heels.

Christa - How could I ever forget? I was in the dairy aisle at the Stop & Shop when you finished! For those of you who are new, I got Christa's finish time on my phone while I was food shopping, and I got all kinds of excited and people were looking at me, wondering if I was an escaped lunatic or something. Hey, too bad! I was excited and proud of her! :woohoo:

Krista - Thank you for asking. The trial is proceeding at a snail's pace. The sanctuary director has been banned from the court - as have all prospective witnesses. Grrrr. :furious: Have you seen the new Disney Crocs?? You KNOW they went RIGHT on my Christmas list! Dave - Maybe that's what you could get DW!! :goodvibes

I do an awful lot of my training on the TM. Not because I want to, but because I have to train early in the morning, otherwise it doesn't happen. And it's just too dark to go out at 4:30am. So I pass the time watching DVDs mostly. I find a good Cary Grant movie makes the miles go by before I know it! Nothing like some real eye candy to pass the time, KWIM? :cloud9:

OK let me get back to work. (Judith Anne secretly reading printouts of the new Runners World Winter Shoe Guide...) :surfweb:

Howard - I feel your pain :grouphug: I am now 5 1/2 courses away from completing my MBA and I feel just so totally worn down. I'm a Controller for a firm and we are trying to wind our year down so the end of the year financials and reporting are hitting hard which leaves me drained to work on the MBA courses when I go home at night. I know it will be worth it in the end but it seems so far away at this point. I'm looking forward to the 2 week break from school at Xmas.

WISHing you the very best :wizard: You WILL get through it and have so many opportunities on the other end. Keep you eye on the prize :teeth:

:sunny: Good Morning, all! :sunny:

:sunny: It seems to be gloomy and rainy in many places today, so I just wanted to send some psychic sunshine to everyone. :sunny:

:cheer2: Get that warm feeling all over by having a great workout today!

:woohoo: Woo-hoo for the WISH Team... our Weekend is just seven weeks away! :thumbsup2 We're almost there!! :hourglass

Eat well, get plenty of rest, and stay healthy :)

Fleetfeet put me into my perfect shoe.

Yes, I had a gait analysis done and my feet measured. Per them, I have a normal arch and don't over or under pronate . Tried on three different pairs of shoes and ran in each. Finally decided on Asics GT-2110s as they felt the most comfortable.

What I'm finding is (I'm 6'2" and 230 lbs), the ball of my right foot gets numb after about a mile and a half. I've tried different socks, and like I said, different shoes, Reebok Premier Road Plus, Reebok Premier Road Plus III and NB 992s. Just haven't come up with the right combination.

I'm wondering if a more neutral shoe may be in order.

7 weeks? :faint:  :crazy2: :scared:

Then again, I'm not sure anyone can put up with my marathon talk :hyper2: for another 7 weeks -- I can't believe we leave 7 weeks from tomorrow!

I remember last year getting ready for :donald: and being a bit, er, um, freaked out, you might say. And then someone told me that I could accomplish anything I set my mind to if I was willing to work hard enough at it. :dumbo: And I was suffering a bit of ::MickeyMo medal envy and got the bright idea that this would be fun! Now, I am just hoping that my bouncing off the walls :Pinkbounc doesn't drive everyone crazy between now and then.

Oh, and BTW, be sure to check Southwest frequently. I got ding flights the other night that saved us a total of $258 on our round trip tickets. We are now flying PHL to MCO for $101 round trip! :cool1: The savings is sitting in an account that will pay for my flight for the Minnie!! YIPPEE!!!! I  SWA and Dave (Mouse Skywalker) who educated me on the wonders of "DING" last year.

I'm just back from the gym. I did 6 miles on the TM. 5.3 in the first 60 minutes (avg pace 11:19), then I finished with walking brining my total avg pace to 12:00. I upped my grade to 1% (from .5) since there is such a big discrepancy between my TM and road paces.

Since we're on the subject of "dreadmills" and how to stay on them. I thought this might be a great time to re-post my "Treadmill Nirvana". I wrote this back before I was a runner. That is, I was a gym rat but rarely ventured outdoors to run.

It just shows that attitude is everything ;)

YAHOO I hit the peak!!!

treadmill.gif
TREADMILL NIRVANA
I'm going to try to attempt to put in words what Treadmill Nirvana feels like.

I start out fully aware of my surroundings; people talking, machines pounding in asynchronous rythyms, music in the background, 6 tvs on the wall in front of me, mostly tuned to news channels. I set my course to manual, time to 30 minutes (I've been pushing with 60 minute runs, today I'll settle for 30). I enter my weight (8 pounds light so I feel confident the calorie burn is not exagerated) and off I go. At first I am aware of the sound of my feet pounding the tread. I adjust my posture, get my headphones chord situated, I feel a bit akward. Soon I realize I'm thoroghly enjoying myself. My shoulders are back, chest high, abs tight. TIGHT! My legs feel like well oiled machines doing their thing without any input from me. They just move. The movement is fluid and free and effortless. I feel invinsible, I could do this forever. I have no cares no worries. I am not aware of anything in my life for this moment. No stresses, no anger, frustration. NOTHING! I'm no longer aware of the room, the people, tvs, sounds. My eyes are fixed on a little spec on the green floor. They've been parked there for 10, 15, 20 minutes; who knows. Who cares. In my peripheral vision I can see green sneakers cycling. They are lime green. That makes me smile. I suppose they are attached to a person, it is of little consequence to me. The music in my headphones is the only thing my mind registers. It is fantastic. I don't remember it sounding so good before. Every song pumps me up more than the one before. I'm not aware of time or space. SOmeone walks between me and my spec and I am jolted back to reality for a minute. Darn!

All of the sudden I realize I am getting tired and I am tempted to look at the time. No don't look yet! Make it last alittle longer before you start the "30 second mind games". Alas, I've come to the 30 second mind games. I don't exactly know what it is I bargain, but somehow I bargain to make it another 30 seconds. I glimpse at the time again, phew, made it! 30 seconds more... until the machine kicks into cool down.

That baby, is Treadmill Nirvana

That is what keeps me coming back when the workouts are blah and every thing in my being screams "I DON'T WANT TO WORK OUT TODAY"

***End Re-post***

So, when you are forced to do the TM, re-adjust your perspective. It's a chance to totally zone out-- you can't totally zone out on the road! :thumbsup2

Sunny

Vic -- I feel your pain. Sending pixiedust: that we both find shoes very, very soon so we can break them in over the next 7 weeks.

BTW, how many miles are shoes good for? Oh, yeah, real good grammar there.

Oh Cam, the MY MARATHON talk is only going to get worse. Last year I managed to fit it into a convo with my pharmacist! :rotfl2: Isn't it funny how narcicistic we become as training comes to a peak? OK, maybe "the others" don't find it amusing :lmao: Their loss :teeth:

Did you notice "Lose Yourself" by Eminem was one of the top 10 play list songs in RW's top 10 lists last month? (disclaimer: I know of Eminem from my angelic daughter  ). He says in that song "you can do anything you set your mind to". It also starts out with:

Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted-One moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?

I can see why so many runners have it on their playlists!

To be honest Cam I've never kept track. I've always gone by the way my shoes felt, or if I started having knee or leg pain.

I have however, since getting back to running regularly, been keeping track of my shoe mileage in my running log. It will be interesting to see what I come up with. :)

Sunny -- I LOVE that song. It is from "9 Mile" and really speaks to me, even if it is a rap song! :rolleyes1

I recently heard a song I am going to add to my playlist.
"Mountains" by Lonestar:
Artist/Band: Lonestar
Lyrics for Song: Mountains
Lyrics for Album: Mountains

Lucinda Jones workin' at the IHOP:
Ten years worth of bacon, eggs an' tears
She's waited on every creed an' color,
While waitin' on this day to get here
Graveyard shifts, two big tips,
Makin' every quarter count,
Was worth it all to see her son,
In that cap an' gown

There are times in life when you gotta crawl,
Lose your grip, trip an' fall
When you can't lean on no-one else:
That's when you find yourself
I've been around an' I've noticed that,
Walkin's easier when the road is flat
Them danged ol' hills'll get you every time
Yeah, the good Lord gave us mountains,
So we could learn how to climb

Bobby, Bobby Dunn came back from the war,
Lost his leg but they couldn't take his will
Hell bent to run in that local marathon,
He trained through the endless pain an' pills
It hurt so bad that sometimes,
He just had to cry,
He didn't stop until he crossed,
That finish line

There are times in life when you gotta crawl,
Lose your grip, trip an' fall
When you can't lean on no-one else:
That's when you find yourself
I've been around an' I've noticed that,
Walkin's easier when the road is flat
Them danged ol' hills'll get you every time
Yeah, the good Lord gave us mountains,
So we could learn how to climb

This world ain't fair,
It can knock you on your butt
You can just lie there,
Or you can get back up
You gotta get back up

There are times in life when you gotta crawl,
Lose your grip, trip an' fall
When you can't lean on no-one else:
That's when you find yourself
I've been around an' I've noticed that,
Walkin's easier when the road is flat
Them danged ol' hills'll get you every time
Yeah, the good Lord gave us mountains,
(The good Lord gave us mountains)
So we could learn how to climb
Yeah, oh

Aren't those words awesome?

Oh, and Sunny, I definitely remember :rotfl2: when you told us about the pharmacist encounter last year and then everyone else piped up with their stories of how they'd managed to fit "I am training for a half-marathon" or "I am training for a marathon" into the most unrelated conversations! :lmao: I haven't done too much of it yet, but I think that is because I am so intimidated about the incredulous looks I've gotten.

Sunny - I love your Nirvana post. I refer to it often. Plus, I love that little TM smilie! :teeth: Thanks for the reminder. I do zone out occasionally, when I'm not really involved in a good movie, that is. It's almost like walking in a third dimension.

Cam - Oh Cam, you made me laugh with your "good grammar" comment! :lmao: I'll say one thing, I certainly have the Marathon Talk thing down pat. Oh yes indeedy! :thumbsup2 Honestly, Charlie must be a candidate for sainthood for putting up with all my blabbing. Every single day I bring home something I have leaned from you guys. I have more printouts from the ING NYC Marathon website and also RW piled up on my nightstand, all highlighted and marked up. I quote from those on a regular basis too. Right about now, the only two things on my mind are Mist's trial and the Half. Somebody might have to remind me we have a holiday or two coming up! :santa:

Pardon my "Everybody Loves Raymond" language...but HOLY CR@P! SEVEN WEEKS?!?!?!? :faint: Ohhhhh maaaaaaaaan! Where's my lists!?!?! Somebody?? Anybody!?!? Where's my LISTS!?!?!? I NEED MY LISTS!!!
