Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Morning teammates. Fueling up to head out in a 1/2 hour or so. The weather is not sure what it wants to do this morning. Looks like maybe a little rain. But I figure, last winter I ran 16 in a cold downpour--a little sprinkle won't keep me in. Forgot to get Gu again yesterday! I spent so much time oohing and aaahhing over Christmas decor that I completely forgot to stop by the sporting goods store. At least I have some gatorade/water mix to get me through

Sounds like there were some great LR/LWs yesterday! Hoping for more of the same today!

Martha--will be thinking of you today, good luck out there!

Steve--if Scott would allow me to put up my xmas stuff right now I would. But, I'm scared of the attic (yes, I know go ahead and laugh) so I can't get the stuff down by myself. If it makes you feel any better, I've already updated my iPod to include my xmas playlist.

Okay, better finish my breakfast and find my shoes!

Good morning WISHers! Today is my rest day and boy do I need it after 2 hours of catching for my softball pitcher in training. My legs and shoulders are pretty sore today. :bored: Today is winter field hockey league for another 2 hours and I will probably be talked into running with the girls for warm up so I guess this is an easy day...not a real rest day. I don't think mom's get real rest days!!!!! :laundy:

Mine was 16 miles this weekend in 3:33:05. Lightning was in the shop so it was more of a Tow Mater run ;) . I'm focusing more on distance than pace, but setting mini-goals within the run to help. My 12 mile split was better than last weeks 12 miler and my half-mary split was 2:44:29, which beats my half PR :woohoo: . I am happy that I'm maintaining my intervals through the first 12 miles...this summer I was just thrilled to get through an hour before having to downshift. I think the R4/W2 works better for me than the R4/W1 and I don't seem to have sacrificed anything for pace with the change.

I have to agree with WWDave...you guys doing the LR on the TM are hardcore :thumbsup2

Lily...wtg on your 7 miles! Good luck on the 14 today. :wizard: for your back. Sorry 'bout OSU...been a weird BCS year.

Colleen...have fun at WDW. How are you feeling?

Jackie...wtg on your 10! There's a house along my running route that took down their Halloween decorations and put the Christmas ones up the next day :santa: Glad we don't know anyone around here like that :rolleyes1

Lisa...hope your 6 miles went well. Are you still getting along with your knees? ;)

Stephanie...how are you feeling? Sorry 'bout the Hogs. I haven't seen any Vols fans here. I was really hoping the Hogs would smear them yesterday, but I don't think it would've mattered either way for the Gators.

Steve...glad your knee held up for the 12! We could send you the Wild Thing to help with Xmas decorations...she was pretty bummed when the Halloween stuff came down.

Krista...wtg on your 6! Did you find anyway to sneak in for the half? Maybe Anthony travel or one of the charities has some spots open?

Renee...wtg on your 18!

Martha...how did you do this weekend?

Yeah...where is Andrew lately?

cguill...congrats on your 14! Are you training for anything particular right now?

Jen...happy belated anniversary! 20 degrees :scared1: I was whining because it was 55 when I went out.

Kelley...congrats on finishing the 15! Sorry it wasn't fabulous. I had the rock in the shoe thing last week, thought it would make me crazy.

Helen...wtg on your 16! Any celebrity sightings? SilverSteve may have some answers for the knee thing.

Well, I'm worried this may be my first and last full :sad1: . I do okay during the run, but the arthritis kicks into my ankle later in the day and the next. I couldn't walk on it this morning :scared: Fortunately, the PF in the other foot is relatively mild this morning. Sooo...I may take an extra rest day tomorrow and hope that helps. I'm wondering what 18, 20, 22 and 26.2 miles are going to feel like the next day :guilty:

Happy Veteran's Day and Thank YOU to all of our veterans!

Good training everyone!

Good Morning WISH Team.

Today is a rest day for me. I had a good week last week with 31 miles and all the good extras like core training and stretching. We have 18 miles on the schedule for tomorrow, "Oh Goody".

Does anyone know if Typhoon Lagoon is open in January? We missed that on the Oct trip so we thought a water play day would be fun.

I think we are the first to arrive, We will be driving in on the evening of January 6th and heading out on the 17th.

I'm trying to arrange some group dinner/lunch meets for anyone interested. I'm green at that so I will just do a post and ask for anyone interested then have Erica make the reservations, I would screw that up.

Everyone have a super Sunday and remember, you need the LSD but you need the rest also.

Training Panda:hippie:

Good Morning Team: Here is my up coming week, lets see how it progresses.

Monday - 8 miles
Tuesday - 5 miles
Wed. - 11 miles
Thurs - 5 miles
Friday - 4 miles
Saturday - 16 miles
Sunday - OFF (Thank Goodness - LOL)

Good Luck everyone, look forward to all your reports ... Have a great week !!!

Good morning team. Sorry I have been MIA just swamped at home and at work.

Training was going great this week until we decided to go to a dance last night....well lets just say I am not sure the 12K we have for today is going to happen.:confused3 but does 5 hours of dancing count????:thumbsup2

I haven't been able to keep up on posts so I hope everyone is doing great and all Lw/R's are going great and are all injury free.

Will post later just running over to the Rememberance Day Memorial for the ceramony. My dad fought in WW2 and we rarely get to go as it falls mid week and we do not get the day off in Canada so when it is on a Sat or Sun we like to go.

To all veterans out there and to you all who have family and friends who have fought in any of the wars THANK YOU for giving us the freedoms we now enjoy!!!!

Have a great day all.

Kim

Hello all!

Today I got in a nice 7 mile run (1:04 - 9:16 pace). I took it reall easy all of last week but wanted to get in one more decent run before the Philly marathon next week because I needed to see how my knee would hold up. I actually did real well considering it was 30 degrees when i started and my joints and muscles were tight for the first few miles. I wore a knee brace during the run and I think I will wear it next week for the race because the knee is still sore.

Needless to say I am nervous about the race but fired up. The fact that my knee held up today made me feel a lot better. Went out and bought some new running clothes this week just for the race. Going with an all black look (hat, gloves, long sleeve shirt and shorts). What's that old saying..."it's better to look good then to feel good." This will be a tough week to get focused.

Hi Everyone!

I ran 18 miles yesterday. I wish I could say I ran it fast, but I didn't. I just had fun. Finished the first 14 in 2:44:00, then went back to bring in the rest of the runners. So I ran the next 2 in 17:34 and the final 2 in 29:00. Running the last 2 miles with slower runners really helped my recovery. I might do that more often. I could have walked beside them, but I thought that would be rude. I tried not to be too perky since they were obviously in the "bite me" zone. It feels good to be strong! What a difference a year makes.

Cecilia

Hello, WISHers!

I am determined to keep up with the thread this week!

I feel great today after my 18 yesterday; no soreness at all! :cool1: It's a rest day; I'll be watching indoor soccer this afternoon as DS starts winter league.

Stephanie - Hope you didn't get caught in too much rain! I don't mind a sprinkle, but I hate squishy running shoes!

Lisa - Definitely no such thing as a true "rest" day with kids around.

Mel - Great job on the 16 miler! Sounds like you're getting a really good pace in!

WWDave - You are braver than I if you're going to Typhoon Lagoon in January! It is scheduled to re-open from a refurb 1/6 so you're in luck.

Cguill - Looks like a fun week! Do you do any cross training or just straight running?

Kim - Depends on the type of dancing as to whether or not it's XT!

Monte - To you as well!

Lou - You have to look good to perform good! Glad the knee is hanging in there.

Cecilia - The "bite me" zone! :rotfl: Reminds me of running with DD!

Happy training, all!
Renee

HMHunters - I just do straight running, mainly due to time constraints, plus my mileage will get higher which means even more time ...

Stinkin Family & work get in the way (LOL) just a joke ...:goodvibes

THANK YOU to all veterans, even you **Boo-boo Panda**, as well as all those currently serving.

Well, the Patriots have a bye week see no REAL NFL football until next week. I am hitting the 4 hour sauna this afternoon, I mean going to enthusiasticly attend DD#3's swim meet. Plan to walk about 3 miles tonight and work on increasing distance the next few weeks. The back is still being fickle, but I am trying to make it understand this is the way it is going to be.

I tried not to be too perky since they were obviously in the "bite me" zone.

I think this is the zone I always end up in. I attribute it to never really enjoying the running part of training back in my jock days. At some point in the future, I am hoping to achieve a running high, rather than needing to be high* to run/walk.

Congrats to all with the LR's. Great job!:thumbsup2

I had an excellent workout today. Did 5 miles in 1:06:39 for a 13:19 pace.
But the best part is I felt great!:) I finished and I was not sore at all. Even after driving home from the track, it was not an adventure trying to get out of the car ;) No stiffness at all.

Hoping to do 8 tomorrow (if all goes well. My Mom is sick and I may have to get her to the Dr. I warned her. My Dad always use to say that approx. 2 weeks after he got his flu shot, he'd get a cold/flu. Well, sure enough, my Mom got her flu shot 2 weeks ago during a reg. check-up. Now she has the stuffy nose, chills and her arthritis in her back is acting up) That's why I don't get flu shots (and because I don't like needles  )

Have a good day and thanks to all our Veterans, past and present!

Terri

HAPPY VETERANS DAY!

Thank you Monte. Having had a long military career, I experienced being called a bad guy and a hero depending on the attitude of the people. You should always support your troops, no matter how you feel about the current wars. The troops don't make those decisions, they go to defend their nation's people against whoever our elected officials say is a threat to them.

One of the moments I'll never forget is flying home from war in the "Freedom Bird". When we reached our shores and the pilot called out over the intercom, "We are now over the soil of the United States of America, Welcome home Warriors". The cheering from the men and women on board, many injured and hurting, was awesome, there was no dought about they felt about our nation.

Happy Vets day, and a moment of prayer for our brave men and women who are in harms way today.

Dave

Hi, everyone! Wow, these LRs are so impressive!

Mel -- that is an awesome time and congrats on beating your PR!!!! :woohoo: Sorry to hear about the arthritis, though. January will be my final full marathon, too, and after that I'll plan on doing the Disney half each year. I'd love to train for your pace and maybe be able to keep up with you in 2009.

Terri -- So glad to hear you are doing well, and that you are smart enough not to do anything to risk your feet heading into the final couple months of training.

Cecilia -- you are another one to whom all I can say is :worship: Man, look at those times and that distance!

Happy Veterans Day to all our WISH teammates who have served!

Also sending extra prayers to our WISH teammates who are serving now, including Matt (thundermatt) and Kevin (kzmarathon, Howard & Lynne's 2007 marathon third). Praying for your safety and physical and emotional well-being, gentlemen, as you spend this time away from your families and many of your friends, sacrificing your needs and wants for the greater good. Love and best WISHes to you! To Cheryl and to Kristen and Kyle and Katie, may God continue to bless you all. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Feeling pretty sore today, but some of that may be due to sitting through the longest football game in history! Delaware lost in 5th overtime yesterday! I don't even know the proper terminology for that. "Quintuple Overtime?" It was a heartbreaking loss and UD had scored the tying points in literally the final seconds of the game (many of the fans had already left) and then went on to challenge Richmond in every overtime session with some very dramatic plays. Exciting, but man, it was cold!

To those who asked about TM training - I don't have much choice because of my vision issues. I usually download new movies to my video ipod and take a good book, a new running magazine, and nutrition, to get through the session. I could go out to the state park and do the 1 1/8 mile (very flat) cinder track, but it doesn't open until daylight and I really need to get done as early as possible on busy weekends.

As for Howard's training, all I can say is "what training?" I think he did a LR of 8 or 9 miles in early September, the Delaware Distance Classic 15k after that, and the ToT 13k on 10/27, but IIRC, he has not run other than that. He seriously plans to wait until finals are done in December and will do some training for Goofy then. ACK!!!!! He makes me crazy! But I also know how hard he is working with his full-time school schedule and working more than 25 hours/week, too, besides trying to be at Andrew's school stuff whenever possible. He meets DD19 for dinner once in a while on campus, too. So, I try not to give him too much grief. ;)

Okay, back to the work on my desk. ICK! Have a great day, everyone! I envy anyone enjoying the fabulous weather we are having in this part of the country.

Good morning WISHers!

Hoping everyone is having a great Sunday.

15 miles completed this morning in 3:11:33. I guess that ain’t too shabby for a grumpy, old, retired senior NCO. My ½ marathon split was 2:45:42, which blew my WDW ½ marathon time (3:20:18) right off the map. I must be in better shape this year. Duh!

Jen and Kristi – Happy Belated Anniversary!

Stephanie – Glad to hear you’re feeling better, and hope you had a good run.

Mel – WTG with the 16 miler! Hope the feet feel better.

Cguill – Have a great training week, and welcome!

Kim – Dancing does count. :thumbsup2

Lou – WTG with the 7 miler.

Cecilia – WTG with the 18 miler!

Renee – WTG with the 18 miler!

PatsBill – How’s the training coming?

Terri – WTG with the 5 miler, and good luck with the 8 tomorrow.

Cam – :wave2:

To all of my veteran brothers and sisters, and to those serving today, here’s to you.

Another HAPPY VETERANS DAY to all of DIS veterans and those currently serving. We appreciate you! May God continue to shine his blessings upon you. :goodvibes :grouphug:

Cecilia - I'm usually in the "Bite Me" zone after the first mile. Ha!

Terri - Great pace! I'm glad you are doing so well now. Here's hoping you remain injury free for the Goofy in '08. :wizard:

Mel - you are smokin'! Congrats on the new PR! I feel for you on the arthritis. I think I have a little in my left ankle as well. Whenever I run, my left foot tends to flop instead of a rolling motion it should do and the doctor thinks it's due to some arthritis. :(

cguill - :welcome: Work does get in my way - and that's no joke. ;)

Cam - I've been off the boards for a while. Hope your back is somewhat "back" to normal. I meant to ask you about it at the ToT. Congrats on getting the 14-miler in. Speaking of schedules, I admire you, Howard and everyone who gets in some training despite your crazy schedules. My hat's off to all of you. I don't know how you do it.

Lily - Sending :wizard: for your back.

Dana and Nancy - congrats on the LRs on the treadmill. Whew! I did 8 miles yesterday on the TM and I was ready to get off. I will admit, a good movie or TV show helps. I don't know if I could read a book, though. I bob up and down too much to be able to read.

Helen - Congrats on getting those miles in despite the popping knee! Yikes!

Lisa - I think all of that XT should count for something. :upsidedow

Kristi and Jen - HAPPY ANNIVESARY to you and DHs!

Kristi - sorry Chad is having to deal with added pressure at work. Hopefully, it won't be too big of a problem. I had a friend that worked PT with Southwest. The perks are great despite the lower pay.

Renee - congrats on getting that 18-miler in. My time is coming. :scared:

Steve - congrats to you and Krista on getting in the LRs pain free. If you get bored over the next few weeks, feel free to come to my house and put up Christmas decorations. I'm not sure when I'll get around to it.

For all of those nursing injuries and illnesses - sending lots of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: your way.

I completed my 8 miles yesterday using the treadmill. I wanted a controlled run. When I run outside I tend to go faster and I'm not able to get in my W3/R2. I get too tired and I end up doing a W3/R1. I'm going to have to work on that somehow. Next up - 16 miles next weekend. I'm actually going to do a half-marathon and add in 3 more miles somehow. We'll see how that works out.

Hope everyone has a good, injury-free week!

Just dropping in to wish our our veterans a Happy Veteran's Day. Thanks for keeping us safe and well wishes to all those who are currently serving our country.

Rest day for me so doing grocery shopping, cleaning and hopefully some rest later today.

Glad to see so many doing well with their training.

Nancy
