Lynne... :bday: :cake: a little bit late

Krista...wtg on the Pig! I'm putting that on my list of races to do one day!

Dena...congrats on your 5K! Way to kick those demons!

Mike...congrats on Broad Street! That one sounds cool too!

Lynne - Can you do a half at a non race pace? ;) SOmehow, I doubt you'll be under trained come January!

Taz - COngrats on Indy! I may have to try that one someday.

jodi - Before you pitch your shoes, try throwing them in the washing machine and drying them on fluff air. Shoudl not get musty. Will add al ittel wear and tear, but should be ok.

Excellent - I wasn't sure that I could do that :)

Well, I ran yesterday. Even through the miserable rain we had all day. I waited for David to get hom and a break in the rain, and ran out the door for 20 minutes. It wasn't much, but it's definately better than nothing. But MAN!! I forgot how much I hate running in the rain!! Today I am just planning on doing some weights/cardio here at home, since the rain seems to be determined to hang around a while. Can't complain though, we need it something fierce.

Jodi - The only thing I can suggest is to get a bunch of old newspaper, and actually stick it in your shoes when they are wet. If the shoes are soaked you may need to change the newspaper a couple of times. It really helps soak up all the water much faster, and might be able to keep them from smelling funky!

Mouse Skywalker, The Gov just happens to live in Philadelphia and he was the mayor for 8 years. He just really loves the city and has done a lot there to turn it around. He is also a huge sports fan and major supporter of all things athletic. Chimera, thanks and it is a cool run - I have now completed it 9 times.

With that said, I did a bit of a review of my Broad Street run last night and think I figured out why I chumed twice; seems I was a bit too fast in my first 6, not just 3, miles. I reviewed the Garmin breakdown of mile splits and I covered the first 5 miles in 36:12 (that's 30 seconds faster than the 5 mile race I was so happy with two weeks ago) and then I covered mile 5 to 6 in 6:50 (guess the crowds got me a bit pumped up). I guess I can not hold back my pace as well as I would like so I am just going to have to work a bit more on my endurance or be sure to run with someone who is a bit more patient than I.

Sorry, no pictures of the Pig yet. I spent last night doing laundry for our vacation on Thursday. I was so focused on the Pig, this vacation kind of snuck up on me, I am so not ready!! I have no idea what I'm going to pack yet and I still have to do my last minute Target run. We basically only have tonight and tomorrow, our flight leaves Thursday at 8:40pm, Stephen is dropping me off at work and picking me up as my work is on the way to the airport. We have to drop Hines off at the kennel tomorrow night for "camp" (that's what I've been telling him :goodvibes ), so I know I'm going to be  for the rest of the night. Sorry to babble!!

Jackie and Dave--I hate to say it, but the Flying Pig definitely rivaled Disney, comparing half marathon to half marathon. Granted nothing can compare to or be better than the running down Main Street USA and through Cinderella Castle, but other than about a mile through the Magic Kingdom and less than a mile through Epcot, the rest of the half course is all on highways--not very exciting at all. The Flying Pig half course is very nice, in my opinion nicer than Disney (taking out MK and Epcot out of the equation), the course is in downtown Cincy, across the river and through Northern Kentucky, back through downtown and up over a park that has amazing views of the city, down the hill, looking at the city and then back to downtown. The course runs through neighborhoods and people are out on their door steps or hanging out of windows cheering for you. The support was about equal, with both courses having water stops every mile, Disney does have characters, but not nearly as many as I thought there would be. I can only remember seeing characters at mile 3 (Peter Pan) and then in the Magic Kingdom. I don't remember seeing any in Epcot. I'm not knocking Disney at all, it's a good half marathon course, but I thought the Pig was great. I don't really know how to explain it, but they are both great marathons to run. Maybe the Pig means a lot to me because I was born in Cincinnati and I have lived my whole life here (other than 4 years in college). Another factor that may have made the Pig better was I better mentally prepared for the 13.1 miles. During Disney, I knew I could do the distance, but mentally I had never been through such a long distance. For the Pig, I knew what 13.1 miles would feel like physically and mentally and I was better prepared for it. Does that make ANY sense?? :teeth:

Jodi--You can definitely dry your shoes in the dryer, just take your insoles out so the underneath can get completely dry.

Lynne--Somehow, I think you'll be fine. :thumbsup2

No apologies necessary to me Krista on this issue. Since I've never run WDW, I was just curious what makes a good marathon. It's nice to know that there is a really good event out there that is a little closer to home than WDW. I'll definitely have to put this on my race calendar to run someday. Assuming I get through the WDW marathon.

Hi all--been absent again! I'm such a bad WISHer!

Bad news--no pregnancy this month--HOWEVER....it would have been pretty cool had we been successful b/c (no lie) the due date would have been January 7th--WDW Marathon day. :rotfl2:

Good news--hubby is going to let me use skymiles to book my flight to Disneyland. I just have to get it in my head that I can earn the money with my job. Soooo.....one step closer to Disneyland!

I am bummed that I ditched the Minnie--those are awesome medals. Hubby would not have been home anyway, though I'm sure I could have arranged something.

We leave in THREE weeks for Washington DC for the summer. :scared1:

So I will be training for the DL Half up there. Contemplating the Space Coast Half Marathon (local race) here---but still not planning a rendezvous in January at WDW. I'm actually entertaining the notion of doing the Rock N Roll Marathon in Phoenix with Team in Training. I don't know. Just went and cheered this weekend for the 20 mile run for the team that is now training for Alaska or San Diego (RNR) and got a little.....envious--the legs were all twitching as if to say....pllllllllleeeeeeease let us run! I miss it so.

As Chicken Little says--Today is a NEW day! That is the new mantra in our house!

We'll see how far it gets us.

Today is a better day. :sunny:

Everyone's race reports are so much fun to read! They get me pumped up! I signed up for my teeny little walk race on Memorial Day. I'm excited though. It will be my first "real" event.

Training went well this morning. I feel much better to be back in the groove.

Sorry to drive-by post yet again.

Hi all!

I am still computerless. Just checking in from my husbands computer. I was in DW with the family 4/29-5/2 for a long weekend. We had a great time! I was walking through the parks imagining all of you for Minnie weekend. It sounds like everyone had a blast and the event was a success!

I just started training for the Chicago half this week. 14 weeks to go! I decided to walk since I am still having hip/heel pain. As it turns out, I really enjoy my walking so much more than the r/w. I see the orthopod this afternoon.

Does anyone know what the time limit for the course is? Do I need a 15min/mile pace?

Mel - way to go to you and your DD! I would love to do a race with my dd15 at some point!

Paul - sorry to hear about your knee pain! - take it easy.

Christy, Lynnda, Jackie

Jodi - glad to hear that your training is still going well! Good luck on your first 5k! Make sure to have fun.

Dena - Wow, your post on your 5k is inspiring!

GoofyGuy - I glad you are feeling better.

Krista - congrats on the half. Great time!

Scott - Great time on your 5k!

Judy - how awful. so sad. You, your friend and family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Well, now that I am somewhat caught up (not nearly everyone) I am not sure when I will have a computer again! So, I am still here and part of the TEAM. I will be keeping up with my training for the Chicago Half and promise that if I start to fall off the bandwagon I will get myself back to a computer find my motivation again!

Best wishes to everyone in their training and RL.

Hi Maggie,

The time limit for the Chicago half is 4 hrs, which is just over 18 minute miles. I walked the Columbus half (also a Bingham event) at a 16:47 pace, with no effort at all. DH and I will be walking in Chicago, but will be picking up the pace preparing for the DL half in Sept. That event has a 16 minute minimum. I am really looking forward (mostly) to walking with DH. I walked with my son in Columbus (he is a freshman at OSU) plus a couple of Dis'ers and that was really cool.

I look forward to seeing you and hopefully a lot more Dis'ers in Chicago!

Dena- I teared up reading your race report. It is an incredible moment when you realize that who you were yesterday is not who you have to be tomorrow. Letting go of the past is a wonderful, life-changing experience. I remember the moment when I finally realized that I am an athlete, and I can do this. It was almost 2 years ago with the help of my friends here on the WISH board. Congratulations on your 5K. You are an athlete. You go girl! :cheer2:

Krista- Way to go on the Flying Pig! My DH grew up in Cincinnati. We might do the Pig with you next year. Is the t-shirt cool? I sure hope you are wearing it. You are not a poser! You did it!

Congratulations to everyone who did the Minnie and other races last weekend. Isn't this fun? :yay:

I have been working hard and getting no exercise. I have got to start running again this week. My marathon relay race is on May 20th. Four miles is not that long a distance, but it will seem long if I have to crawl to the finish. :rotfl:

Better get back to work. Happy Tuesday everyone!

Heather--Where did your DH grow up? I live in Liberty Township, which until about 7-10 years ago was corn fields, but I grew up in Reading (lived there from birth to 8) and Lockland (8-20) and my parents now live in Fairfield Township. I wish I had known he was from the 'Nati, we could have talked about that in January! :) Yes, I did get the t-shirt and it is very cool, I haven't worn it yet, maybe I'll wear it tonight on my Target excursion. I also bought a black hooded sweatshirt that says "Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon, Est. 1999"--I wore that Sunday when we went out to eat after getting cleaned up. You would not believe all the freebies we got from this marathon, we got: a canvas duffel bag, a t-shirt, a poster, a hand towel that says "I went wee, wee,wee at the Flying Pig Marathon, May 2006" (that is hanging in my cubicle) and a medal (also in my cube). The medal is very neat, it is actually a 3-D medal with a pig wearing wings and flight googles and on the back of the medal is the back of the pig. I'll post a picture of that tonight too. You should think about doing the Pig next year, it was so much fun. It's always the first Sunday in May, so it would be on May 6th.

Congrats to all the Minnie runners & all the other race reports. Sounds like everyone is keeping busy :moped:

Our hometown 5K was really fun. They had an organized warm-up and stretch which was really nice. I let Dx set the pace. He worried me during mile 2. He started passing people left and right. I expected him to be at about a 10:00 pace but we finished 29:42 (9:35 pace).

When we got to the shoot I stopped to let him go first, but he didn't know what I was doing so he stopped, too. Then I pushed him in and people in the crowd said, "ah, isn't that sweet".

I rented a bike yesterday, still half contemplating doing my tri on Sunday. "They" are right, you never forget how to ride a bike! Its been over 20 years since I've been on one. I can't say I'm any good at picking the right gears or starting and stopping though. Besides not being trained, I'm also quite sick so it will really be a miracle if I decide to go.

I'll keep you posted :)

Sunny

Hi Everyone,

Sorry - I am horribly behind on getting to everyone personally, I will (I promise) by the end of the week you will have a nice long post from me. :teeth:

Just a quicky for now.....tongiht I ran on the threadmill did 3.11 miles, at a 5.7 pace, 10.31 min/mile (according to the threadmill).....Hoping that I do something just as good this coming Saturday when I do my 5k.....I'm still holding out hope that it won't rain (at least not downpour) .

Have a great night everyone!

Jodi

P.S. - Thank you all of all of the advice about the sneakers also.

Hi,

Congratulations to everyone who finished the Minnie, and other local races.

Judy - my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I have just started running again this week. I have been xtraining and walking, finally felt good enough to start running.

Last night I worked out with hand weights and the ball, and then went for a swim, forgot my goggles, so right now my eyes still look like I'm hungover!

Today I went for a 3 mile run - I was planning to run 3/walk 2. But felt way better than expecting so ran 5/walked 2. My 3 miles took 30mins 27 secs! For me that's awesome - I usually average 15 minute miles. The cross training must have paid off.

Can I keep up 10 minute miles for the longer distances, I don't know yet. My goal is to improve from 15 minutes to 14 minutes, which would have me on track for a 3 hour finish for the DL 1/2. Speed in my short runs will help with the longer runs anyway, so I'll keep plugging away.

I don't have any shifts for my second job this week, so it makes scheduling training sessions much easier.

have a great week.

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

Ran 3.14 miles yesterday in 33:54 min (10:47 mpm) on the hilly Mt. Hope Cememtery course. I must admit I thought I was going faster and farther. I was trying to run 4 miles and I even added another little loop to the course from the last time I ran it. I ran the course last week and my Garmin measured it at 3.18 miles. Yesterday it measured the course at 3.14 miles, but I added another little loop?? :confused3 OK, I'm looking at the map now, and it looks like there is a spot between mile 1 and 2 where there is a suspicious straight line on my course. I think the Garmin lost me for a little bit.

Dave - I've noticed this also....where the Garmin, kind of loses me, but then again I think it is the area that I run in - sometimes a weak signal note will come up on it. Oh well, at least I have a fair idea of how far I have been running. :goodvibes

Rachel! That is an awesome pace!!!!!! way to go!

Dave - I think if the Garmin loses you when you are on a loop, you do indeed lose that distance. I do mostly out and backs, so as long as it doesn't lose me at the furthest extent, it will catch up.

Dave - You can always pace that distance off w/ your car or bike computer. Obviously, if your route was longer, your pace was faster! You probably were going harder and faster than the garmin said. How did your shins do w/ the hills?

Sunny - do it, do it, do it!!!!! It can be your little Mother's day pres to yourself!

Judy - So sorry to hear about your friend's son. I lost a friend that way about 1 year ago. There is such a sense of loss.

Sara - I loved your race report! It sounds like you guys had such a good time. I have only stayed at the Peabody in Memphis and it was nice. (any hotel seems nicer when it is just the 2 of us :rotfl: )

I totally skipped my weights monday, so I'm lifting today. EC hurt her leg, so no running tomorrow. We are going on a really long bike ride. Yesterday, I swam 1.15 miles (i thought I was doing 1.2) and them mt. biked for about 5.5 I still havent gotten used to my new bike, so my ride wasn't as fast as it usually is, but I will. The gears in back are a little different, so I'm having some trouble climbing hills after a fast downhill. When the trails dry off a little, I'll practice more!

Hope everyone has a good day of training.
