Wk of May 7--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Greetings WISH Racing Team!

I am so excited :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: . I just talked to my boss and I was able to get the time off in January so I can go to WDW for the marathon weekend again. As I've posted previously, I am a budget analyst and the beginning of January is super busy as we close the prior year and set up the current year. My boss is a sweetheart, I think it helps that his wife is a triathlete!

Anyway, I have the time off. Now I have to get serious about deciding between the half and the full. I soooooo want that Mickey medal, but I am a walker and am a little worried about walking a full. I know people do it, but wow it seems a little overwhelming.

Got to get back to work! :cool1:

Pat -- I am with you! I am registered for the full because I really want the Mickey medal -- but I am intimidated as all get-out! If I remember correctly, I think you are already faster than me. I think you will be fine, as long as you can build up some miles ahead of time. We'll just keep plugging along with a goal of staying ahead of the sweepers in January! :cool1:  :cheer2:

Hey Cam!

YOU are faster than me. I strictly walk in RL, although on the treadmill I usually do some intervals. I did see lots of true walkers outside of the AK at about 10:30 the marathon morning, so I know people do walk. And I talked to a walker on the boat from Epcot to MGM one morning, he said there are lots of people who exclusively walk. That Mickey medal is callling my name.....all I want to do is stay ahead of those darn sweepers. I am walking in Chicago in August with DH, and we are walking in DL in Sept, so I will be
getting in some good miles. I will have to think some more.

Mel, Christy, Lynnda, Jackie, Nancy, Sara, Cam – Congratulations on the Minnie. You all did GREAT! :woohoo:

Dana – Way to go on pushing that jogging stroller. :thumbsup2 A friend has a daughter in a wheelchair. She brings her to the track with us and pushes her for 3 miles. I’ve pushed her a few times for a little bit. What a work out.
Judy – So very sorry to hear about your friends son. You are all in my thoughts & prayers. :grouphug:
Scott – Congratulations on your 5k. Way to go beating your previous time. :woohoo:
Carrie – Way to go on negative splits on your 4 miler :thumbsup2

Sunny – Congratulations on your hometown 5k. Good Luck if you decide to do the tri on Sunday. :bounce:
Lynnda – Good Luck with the Danskin Tri this weekend. :Pinkbounc
Colleen – Congratulations on the Vancouver ½. :woohoo:

I have been getting to the track doing my work outs. I feel like I am slowly progressing. Tomorrow is my long walk/run. I am planning on doing 5.5 miles. The last few days have been a little stressful. My friend’s daughter (the one I mentioned above) has cerebral palsey & epilepsy. She has been having really bad seizures for the past few years. They finally decided it was time to do surgery on her brain to hopefully alleviate some of the seizures or at least where they aren’t as bad. She had her first surgery on Wed. and the second surgery will be this Wed. They have a rough few weeks ahead of them. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's!!!

Pat, :cheer2: YEAH!!!! :cheer2: I'm so glad you took the plunge and asked your boss!! I know how that has been worrying you. Now, get planning! Like Cam says, you get your miles in, you will do fine. I'll be watching you two because then Mickey will be mine in 2009!!
Karen, will definitely be praying for your friend's daughter as she recovers and faces her next surgery!!
Minnie, Have FUN!!
Colleen, :dancer: :dancer: Great job on your spur of the moment half!!
Dana, Wow! Wonderful splits! DH says, "Adrenaline is a wonderful drug..." Once he got to WS, he knew he could make it. Afterwards.... :charac2: let's just say people would have a hard time believiing we had done a 15K!!!
Judy, Thanks for your kind comments. Your race will be here before you know it!

Just got a notice from WWoS..Goofy is limited to 3000 participants and is 55% full!

To our WISH Team members participating in events this weekend...May the wind be at your back and your feet fly you to that finish line! :teleport:

Have a GREAT weekend everyone!! :sunny: Anne

I hear ya Pat :goodvibes As long as I'm ahead of the sweepers, I'll be happy with any time...as long as I cross the finish line. I'm doing a 10k on Memorial Day and a half this summer.

That's great that your boss is so flexible during a busy time of year, he's awesome :woohoo: Do you know where you're staying? Congrat's again and see you there :)

Monte,

I will probably stay at Pop again. It worked out well last year, so that is probably where I will end up. I'm just so excited!

another drive by here...

I definitely won't be doing the tri. After passing out for the second time ever in my life (and the second time in the last two months) I ended up at the ER and was diagnosed with pneumonia (however you spell it).

That explains why a 9:35 pace felt labored at the 5k when my normal 5K is 8:20ish! So now feeling like a toughy (or idiot as the case may be), I'll post picts of the race:

I've learned one thing: work stress and sleep depreviation are harder on the body than marathon training! I'm on antibiotics now so I'll be good to go soon.

Pay no attention to the tiny girl right in front of us. She's obviously an athlete in disguise :rotfl2:
Sunny

Sunny..OMGoodness!!!! For running with pneumonia..you look AWESOME!!! PLEASE get well!!! Take ALL your antibiotics...REST!! (ok, enough mothering... ;) )

Morning Everyone!

Sunny- your pic with the little girl made me laugh. In every race I try to pick out a little kid I think I can beat. I never do, but it is fun to watch how fast those little boogers can run. They're amazing! Feel better girl, okay?!

Dave- I'm so excited your shins are feeling better! What good news. Your training seems to be going really well. Congrats!

I haven't done any running since last weekend. DH is on 12 hour shifts at the hospital (nursing school) so my training partner has been dead tired. I have made sure to get my steps in by shopping! That counts, right?!?! The Wal-mart workout.... :scratchin Hmmm..

I've been maintaining my weightloss which I'm finding amazing. Normally it's either going up or down. I would prefer down, but what can you expect with minimal exercise? :confused3

Sending :flower2: :flower: :daisy: for all the mothers this weekend! I'm so proud of us all!

Hey Viking,

Thanks for the advice on the Triax :thumbsup2 . Next week I'm borrowing one of DH's co-workers Garmin 301 to see if it works in my running areas. If not I know what I'm going to get now!

Also....DH spends time in Germany for work. He works for a German company...so has to travel to your beautiful country a few times a year. One of these days I really want to accompany him and do some sight seeing myself!

AmyBeth,
this so funny, because for me it's vice versa: I work for an American company in Germany. I had to travel to the States for business reasons only once so far. My company headquarters are located in Denver, CO.
If you're coming to Frankfurt, inform me in time and I would gladly take a day off to show you my hometown.

Sunny-Please rest & get better! Dont worry, you will have another opportunity to do a tri later.

Pat-congrats on getting to go to marathon weekend!

Amy-That is so cute. My DS (who is also in 3rd grade) did one of those too. He put I was loving & and a runner who likes races. Also that I do races with him and by myself. It is cool to see this rubbing off on them

Anne- I just noticed your sig. Are you going to be in DL ? That is great!

I am taking this week off from training. Will start back some next week. We are going back to WDW in 4 weeks for DH work so I am trying to plan what we are going to squeeze into that trip. Definately a water park.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Sunny - so sorry about the pneumonia!!!! I hope you get better soon! I loved your race pics.

Yesterday was an off day for me. I went to swim a short distance and i was slower and more labored than usual! I did lift last night. Hopefully this weekend will be more encouraging exercise wise.

Pat - you can do the full! I think there are lots of people who walk the full!

Just posting that I completed my longest run ever today. I did 6 miles with a 4r/1w ratio. The plan is to do this distance for my long run for a few weeks leading up to the Peachtree 10k in July. I completed it in 58:54 and my splits were 9:00/9:44/9:48/10:23/10:05/9:54...needless to say I am very pleased!!

Hope everyone out there has a great weekend!! I enjoyed all of the race reports from last weekend...the WISH Racing team was represented well!!!

Sunny - feel better soon! I only wish I looked that good after running with pneumonia :teeth:

Terri

Dave - Good luck this weekend. My thoughts are definitely with you.

Cam - :grouphug: for you too. This is my first Mother's Day without my mom and I'm not looking forward to it at all!

Minnie - Rode EE last weekend for the 1st time, and I was fighting migraines all weekend. We were in the last car, and I thought it was a little bumpy, but not that much different from BTMR. The drop was nothing like Splash - I wasn't at all sure we'd actually gone down the big drop when it was over! The only reason I felt it was jerky was because my head already wanted to hurt - otherwise I wouldn't have noticed it at all.

Jodi - You're much better at keeping secrets than I am! I think I was able to keep quiet for about a week when I booked a trip right before Christmas for the following March and put the confirmation in DH's stocking and the UOG in DD's stocking, but we spend way too much time obsessing over planning .

Sunny - Please take it easy and get better soon! I can't believe you ran with pneumonia! What a trooper!

Nancy - I feel so bad that we got the 2 tshirts! Hope they get them in the mail soon. I wish I'd gotten the photos before I got the survey.

Guess I need to get out and be active today. Last night was the first night I've really been able to sleep since we got home, and boy did I need it. I've been really lazy so far today and really enjoyed it!

Good luck to everyone running today!

Jackie

Hi Everyone,

Just got back from my 5k --- I did better than I thought I was going to, I finished in 30.30 minutes. I can't tell you how surprised I was that I did so well with the time.

Here are some pictures is a link to the pictures from the race (BTW, I'm number 729.....okay the one in the fusia shirt) - http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jodi_bobporcu/album?.dir=706bre2&.src=ph

Sunny feel better soon!

I will write more later......just want to get some rest.

Jodi

Hey everyone! Remember me? I've missed you!

Sunny, I am so sorry about your being sick! Please take care of yourself.

I haven't read any. I will try later. It's been crazy busy for me. I did manage my training today with the Saturday group. It wasn't pretty, but at least I went and did it. It is amazing how quickly one loses it all if one doesn't keep up with the movement.

I will read later. WISHing all the best.

I did get the survey from the Minnie! Checked my email after I got off here and sure enough, there it was! Disney has now gotten feedback from me!

Karen Sorry to hear about your friend's daughter. Prayers on their way to them.

Cam Although I lost my Mom many years ago, it still hurts because I would so love to share my life now with her. Prayers and PD to you, also Jackie on this Mom's Day

Jackie Please don't feel bad about the shirts. You only took what they told you that you were entitled to. Besides, your shirt never would have fit me anyway! :earseek: I think you and your DH did a WDW "marathon" weekend in addition to the Minnie! You really squeezed in a lot of activities in a short time!

Jodi Great job on your 5K! Excellent pace! Being a former Ct resident, it was good to see Al Terzi in your pics! Nice to see a familiar face! As for your surprise, I'd never be able to do it!

Sunny You're amazing! You ran a 5K with pneumonia! Glad to hear you finally got to a DR, even if it took getting knocked over to do it. Oh, wait, that sounds just like what I would do. Wait till I pass out before I admit something is wrong! Hope you are starting to feel better!

Scott Great run!

Pat Glad to hear you will be able to get the time off in Jan! I
ll bet you CAN do the full!

Anne How's your DH's blistered feet doing?

Colleen Great job in Vancouver!

Lynne, Lynnda Hope you had a great race! You're probably done by now. It was Sat (today) for both of you, wasn't it?

:flower1: :flower1: Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms! :flower1: :flower1:

Oh don't get me wrong, I have a very hard time keeping secrets but this I'm trying hard not to break the news about. I just really want to surprise the hect out of him. He's my best friend and he simply MUST be at Disney with me during Marathon weekend. I will have a hard time keeping the secret until October.

Jodi Great job on your 5K! Excellent pace! Being a former Ct resident, it was good to see Al Terzi in your pics! Nice to see a familiar face! As for your surprise, I'd never be able to do it!
Wow - I so envy you.....I wish I was able to leave CT for FL :). Then you must be a Huskie fan right, I was at one point today, very close to Rebecca Lobo.....although, she was with her family and I did not want to bug her then for a picture. Rebecca has the most adorable little girl (looks a lot like her). Her Mom is a cancer survivor and they walked the 1 mile walk together :goodvibes
