Wk of May 11 - WISH Walking/Running Club

So I too am fumbling for the next thing to train for, but more on that in a moment. First a few shout-outs.......

kz/Kevin Welcome home and we are all glad you're back safe and sound.

Tracy Hope you're feeling better soon and stay out of the smoke.

Duckie Jen Wow! Your post was as prodigious as Debra. May you two can have a post-off. The first one to fill an entire thread page with a response wins! ;)

Cecilia I hope your doctor's visit goes well. Your SuperGoof-ers are thinking of you!

Krist I empathize on the not having a next race. I need to know what I'm training for (Just chalk me up as one of those deadline/goal-motivated people). SO how about this? We open it up to the WISHers. I'll go first......

WISH Team So I've narrowed down my next "thing to train for" to two categories: 1) Running a 10k in under 60 minutes or 2) Doing a sprint triathlon.
Each has its pluses and minuses. The 10k means more & varied running--good because I don't have to worry about training for 3 sports, bad because I have a residual nagging knee thing while running. Thre tri? Good because the cross training would give my running legs a break, bad because I really am afraid of being the last person out of the water! And I would need more gear (but have a live-in bike expert) Also, the logical tri to try is the women-only sprint in Sylvana, Ohio, but it's only about 9 weeks away--not much time.

So here's your chance for some fun. Weigh in on what you'd do (and I will bet in advance the opinions come in 50/50!!)

Maura

Who will now get back to work at home today while they move me from my nice office to my new cube (building renovations  )

Well, it took me about an hour & a half, but I finally read/skimmed through this entire thread! There is so much exciting news happening out there - babies, graduations, weddings! Congratulations to all of you, and I am so inspired by all the great training that is happening also.

First of all, a very late Happy Mother's Day to everyone out there! I spent mother's day managing an event (left the house at 6:45am and got home at about midnight!), but came home to some beautiful flowers from my husband. We're putting off the official celebration to sometime next weekend.

Because my schedule has been so busy I have slacked off a little on my training. Things are really lightening up for me now, and school is out soon, so I am going to have more time. I am debating between adding a fourth day of running per week, or getting serious about adding a day of cross-training. Advice/suggestions are welcome!

I am getting excited as my short runs get up to 4-5 miles, and I am building up my weekend runs gradually to 10K length by mid-June. After that, the real fun begins - I will begin serious half-marathon training for the Philly Distance Run in September.

Finally, so many of you asked about my daughter's ballet last week that I wanted to respond. If I can find my camera  I'll post some pictures later. They participate in a wonderful ballet school here in Philadelphia, with a wonderful and creative director. The ballet was actually a world premier that their director conceived and choreographed - called "The Emperor and the Kite" it was based on Chinese folktail and a children's book by Jane Yolen (who was there to introduce the ballet and autograph books). It was absolutely stunning! The music, costumes, choreography and dancing were all amazing. I feel so grateful that my children can participate in something so wonderful!

P.S. Scott - where do I find your trip report? I can't seem to find it!

Greetings Race Team -

Gee, I sure WISH I had some training to report. Is unpacking considered XT? Because, yeah, I'm still doing it. :upsidedow

Did Zebra Butt show up on Sunday night? I haven't read any Jellyrolls reports... :rolleyes1

Amy - Oh thank you! I'm very proud of Charlie. :woohoo: I'll tell him you said that.

Shan - Sending you truckloads of :wizard: for your surgery. Take full advantage of the REST and recovery period. Emphasis on the "rest" part.

Social Panda - Your kindness is not going unnoticed by those who are most fond of you. :goodvibes

Mel - as we drove to Port Canaveral on Sunday we really smelled the fires. (OK I don't know FL geography at all but I know they were close.) Everyone that sees our vacation pictures says "Oh how cute!" when they see the picture of you with your Ohana headband on. :goodvibes I'll post it in a bit.

OriginalBill - OMG! How nerve-wracking for you guys. How can you train in all that smoke?

Tracy - OMG you too! How scary! :scared:

MSDave - That sounds like a lovely evening and a good training session to boot! :thumbsup2 Say...did you hear about that job yet? You might have already told us but I'm sort of behind right now.

Kristi - I totally hear you about not having anything to train for. I have a 5K on Memorial Day and I'm not doing a thing about it. I said I was not going to sign up for any distance events until I lose some weight so I better get on it like NOW! Oh and I also have a wicked cold and a toothache. At least it waited until I got home. Poor Zack.

Maura - I am no help with picking a race but I do want to say THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH for the Epcot tickets! If your ears were ringing on and off on Friday it's because both Charlie and I kept mentioning how generous it was of you to give them to us. Now, if anyone ever questions the true spirit of WISH, that is a perfect example. Thank you again! :goodvibes

GOOOOOD morning everyone! Ok I'm getting so much better at this whole posting thing!!!... here we go:

Bride Michelle, wow 7 miles!! That's incredible!
Thanks!! I'm really sorry to hear about your back pain!! I had a knee problem that plagued me for months and months and months a few years back. I finally had to come to the realization that if I didn't just rest it and not run for a while, it would never get better. That's frustrating, especially when you get into a really good routine and you just don't want to stop. But I think everyone is right, just rest it, I think that's the best you can do! You dont want to mess with your back, its so important, I mean... its your back! lol I hope you feel better!! :goodvibes :goodvibes
Michelle – Congratulations to you & your mom on getting out there & doing 7 miles. :woohoo:
Thanks Karen, It felt great to accomplish something like that in such a short time! My mom has been running non stop since she was young, so she's like Pff this is easy! Good luck getting back into your routine! :thumbsup2

BrideMichelle
: Good luck with the dress shopping, and way to go getting 7 miles in!
Thanks and thanks!! :thumbsup2 :cool2:
Bride Michelle[/B] - Really hope the pilates works out for you guys tonight! Awesome run for you on Saturday...nothing better than when it all comes together and you can just log mile after mile. I hope you are not feeling any negative impact from the distance. As far as the bike, I really believe it's the best cardio you can do to complement the running.
Scott, the Pilates was GREAT! Just checked in with mom and she loved it! I was surprised, but very happy. She got the hang of it quickly and she really liked it. It worked muscles she forgot she had! :lmao: lol. I tried the advanced video last night (as I gave mom and sis my regular workout tape to try), and that was ... .challenging! lol. I think I'll look on ebay for the pilates for dummies video and go with that for a while until I can do the advanced tape. We'll see how that goes! DF said we can look into getting bikes for the upcoming summer!!! He said he would ride with me, which makes me SO happy! I love having a work out buddy, and who better then him right!?

Best of all, I had NO soreness or ill effects after the 7 miler, which kind of makes me want to go distance again tonight on my run, but I wont. I'm quite prone to injury when I push myself, so I'm taking it sloooow!
I hope you enjoyed your night off and good luck with your training this week!! :thumbsup2
Jules123, WELCOME! Great job on the 5k, and keep up the good work. :cool2:
Bride Michelle: How did the Pilates go???? I hope you and your mom enjoyed it!!! If you have any questions please fire away...you can PM me if you want or visit the Core thread as I check that regularly. As for Winsor Pilates...those tapes are totally fine if not a little challenging for beginners. My only concern about them is that they *can* be tough for those unfamiliar with pilates but overall it's a good method and is true to pilates form!
Amy, the Pilates was a HUGE success for mom and me. Welll... not so much for me, since I am only left with the advanced Winsor pilates tape, and it was difficult for me last night. I just went at my own pace and did what I learned from her basic workout tapes. I'm looking on ebay for another tape to use until I am ready for the advanced. BUT best of all is that mom loves it and I'm really glad. She's gotten totally into this training! She is so motivated and tells everyone and anyone who will listen that she is 51 and running in a marathon! lol too cute! I'm glad she likes it!! She said she worked muscles she forgot she had!!! :lmao: Thanks for all your help and I think I'll definitely have more questions as we continue with the pilates!
You're goals are so ambitious!!!!! Good luck, and I hope you get back to enjoying running. Some days I love running, some days I do not! But I know what you mean about wanting to just enjoy it. When mom and I were out there running 7 miles, I swear it seemed to take less time than other days where I've only run 3, but it was b/c we were enjoying it that it went by so fast and so easily! Its a great feeling!! :goodvibes

Bride Michelle: I totally forgot about having to sneak pics of the dresses. Thank goodness for cell phones. I think you should have left your DF for a few hours--after all, what's more important, him or the dress? Or better yet, sharing the pics of the dress with us? Harumpppph. I suppose that's love for ya! :rotfl2: After you're married, I'm christening you Wifey Michelle, okay?

REgarding the Pilates, I know Amy has said Winsor is fine if that's what you have, but prefers Pilates for Dummies. I've seen both, and I have to agree; Pilates for Dummies offers much more instruction if you can't get your mom to a class. As for your pace and distance, I don't know whether to hug you or be jealous. (Can I do both?) You're doing really well and after only 2 1/2 weeks. It sounds like it's all clicking with you--and I really can't help but celebrate for you!
lol, Deb, next time I will leave him home! Seriously, its way more important that you guys get to see all my fun!!! :lmao: I am totally OK with WIfey michelle... although that sounds so old and adultish! ekk, am I really growing up?!?! :scared1:

I'm going to try Pilates for Dummies, although my mom did say she liked the Winsor tape! It might be a bit easier, but in any case, I need a new basic workout tape as I gave her my copy!! Feel free to hug and be jealous all you want!! :rotfl: no, I'm kidding. Thank you so much, I'm really pleased with all that I've accomplished so far. It feels great, but seriously, its the support from everyone here that makes it all possible and worth it!!! so, thanks everyone for the well wishes and support!!

Dave, Great pace for the 5.3 miles! I love when someone accompanies me on my run on their bike, for some reason it makes it a bit more ... challenging! And much more pleasant too! :thumbsup2
Cecelia, Good luck at the doctors today. :goodvibes
AND everyone else, GREAT job on the goals and training. Keep up the good work! I hope everyone has a great day!!!

~Bride Michelle :bride:

CarolA- The Italy trip is tomorrow. Portugal would be a fun trip, I don’t know about the costs compared with the rest of the EU but the less of a tourist destination the better as far as cost goes. I know Italy, France, and Germany are not cheap. I have heard that Croatia and specifically the Dalmatian Islands are less expensive options for Europe also.

Morgan- Back injuries can become chronic so a little rest now could help a lot later. Something to look at when ever you have back pain from running is form. If you are hunched you will be impacting your back more. Remember to run tall with your shoulders over your hips and you will absorb the foot falls better. Another common running problem is landing too much on your heals. You knees and hips don’t absorb the shock as well when you land on your heal. The best way to make sure you are landing right is to go out in your bare feet and run down the sidewalk for a few foot falls. You will naturally land on the balls of your feet. Land the same when you are out on the road. Hope this helps with some back pain.

Mel- I loved running at POR. You get to run up and down the river and in the morning it is so refreshing.

Debra- The Pub is not too far at all from downtown. The address is 19304 Detroit Rd. Rocky River, OH 44116. Lakewood is the city that borders Cleveland to the West and Rocky River is the next city West after Lakewood. The Pub is about .25 miles past the Lakewood/Rocky River Boarder. You can map quest it from whichever hotel you are staying at. The will most likely have the Serie A games on since the Championship contenders are both playing teams that could take the last relegation spot. Inter plays Parma and Roma plays Catania. It should be interesting. I will be in Florence for the last game and even though Fiorentina are on the road a win gets them the last Champions League spot so it could be a fun night in Tuscany.:thumbsup2

I bet the Pgh marathon would be totally flat and fast since you guys are no where near a mountain range.

As far as Cleveland places go I second Morgan that downtown you should head to East 4th. It is more an alley than a street but our House of Blues is there and there are a good number of restaurants within walking distance. There is also the “Warehouse” district which has some night life but there are also some bistros and restaurants up and down West 6th. You can walk there also. A good site with restaurant info is http://restaurants.clevescene.com/

The winner of The Next Iron Chef, Michael Symon, has two restaurants here. One is Lolita and is in Tremont and the other is Lola. Lola is on E. 4th by the House of Blues I mentioned above.

It’s too bad I will be gone or I would give you a tour of our fair city.

Hi Team...:goodvibes

I'll come back to post more later but there are days when I realize how special this place is. Today is one of those days. I love the positive nature of this forum. I love the open and welcoming environment. I love that we embrace other forums and keep an open mind. It's really a GREAT place to come to get healthy, stay healthy and most importantly make friends. Yep..real live friends. Not just cyber-aquaintances. But real people who really care. For instance...I have made the best friend I've ever had in my entire life via Wish. I've also made a very dear friend who cared enough to call me and check up on me recently (Stacie..you are such an angel :lovestruc ). We were all worried about Anne when we hadn't heard from her (so glad you are ok, but sorry for the big time LTO)...we were all concerned deeply for Lily (thankfully she is stronger than ever)....we were all pulling for Robert during his surgery and Erica recently as she battled her foot surgery. It shows that this team has one thing that is so special...and that's Heart!

Cecilia:  Good luck at the doctor's office today. Sending you some strong PD :).

Welcome to all those who are new! :goodvibes I forgot to mention many of you in my post yesterday. But you've found a great place and I can't wait to get to "know" you!

Hey WISHers, newbies and old (well I don't mean "old old", you know what I mean) :rotfl:.

REMINDER: FREE SCOOP OF HAGEN DAAS ICE CREAM TODAY. They're debuting a new flavor, something with Honey.

Glad to hear everyone in Florida is okay, despite the traffic.

:wizard: To those under the weather or having pain issues.

My report: I rode my bike to and from work on Monday, 3 miles each way. Easy downhill, then flat, in the morning took 13 minutes. In the afternoon it was flat, then uphill on the way back. It took about 30 minutes only because of the last mile of constant peddling. I will try again on Wednesday, and possibly make it a routine depending on my work schedule.

Good for the health and crosstraining, not to mention great for the wallet with today's gas prices.

My IT band has been acting up, so in addition to stretching on the foam roller, I utilized a worn down tennis ball to isolate the stiff muscles in the glutes/hips. I recommend it to those who can tolerate the pain :scared1: . It isn't comfortable while your lying on the roller or ball, but after a night's rest, the stiffness and pain is less noticable.

Very hot weather the next few days here. No trade winds, so VOG will be moving up from the Big Island. Heading out for a planned 6 miler this afternoon, but with this heat, it may be shorter.

Have a great day everyone.

Tracy I know what you mean about the (cough cough) smoke in the air this morning. I am hoping that those that are in the immediate area of the fires are all safe (as there are quite a few burning throughout Florida right now)

Tracy - SOrry about the smoke!

Amy - :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I needed that!

Judy - Zebra Butt checked in at WDW SUnday, but then had to leave fro an emergency at work. :( Need to see what he's up to again.

Not in my normal office today. Traveled here last night and staying with the 'rents. Retired people get tired of each other and tend to suck you dry fro conversation and nto let you leave when in their grips, I mean home. ;) So, no exercise last night. 3 hour drive home after work tonight, so I haev to do teh intermidiate yoga again tomorrow. :scared1:

Thansk for all teh posts that gave me smiles today!

OK, this whole free ice cream thing is the pits.... we don't have Hagen Daaz either!!!! :guilty: :sad2:

Amy - Aren't you the sweetest!!! Just love that. Too bad I didn't get to chat with you at Minnie... I did have a quicky chat with Scott tho. Ok, well he was giving me this really weird look so I had to walk over to him. Did you bring any cookies with????

So last night was crazy at my house. At 8pm I ran my stairs and did some stretching just to get something in. Running stairs is hard!!!

So team - I am a little frazzled. Those that know me, know that my January is not a WDW friendly time. Normally I travel for work 3 out of the 4 weeks and squeeze in the marathon. I took a redeye from San Diego this past year just to make it there (warning.... don't try this, it stunk). So this year looks even worse and I am trying desperately to make it happen. It looks like I may have to miss cheering on the full marathon as I may be flying that day. I really want to volunteer... so lets hope I can make it happen.

Bill, Lynnda, Tracy, Tricia, and anyone I might have missed: It's good to hear that you're doing okay with the fires, smoke, evacuations, and traffic. I'll be thinking of you all and hoping the fires get under control quickly and with as little additional damage as possible.

MS Dave: I love the update posts, nice and succinct (unlike me :rotfl2:). It sounds like you had a great run and, even better, a great father-daughter time. :thumbsup2

Kristi: Do you have a favorite first race? One with special bling, a great t-shirt, or a huge post-race party? Wacky costumed runners? (Ohh, Ammmmyyyyy?) Friends who are already doing it? I'm all about the extra incentives. (That's because I'm so new to everything I'm not worried about PRs yet.) Given those criteria, I'd say go with Smuttynose Will Run for Beer: a great name; the beer, chili and wings; and Lisa! P.S. I hope Zack feels better soon.

Rich: I'll be doing the Cleveland half, and DOOD (my DH) will be doing the full. I think Optimator Mike is still on board for the full, too. Yoo hoo, Mike? :yay: I don't know this race at all, so don't know what to expect. You?

Cecilia: Returnies! Hah! I hope your doctor's appointment goes well!

Morgan and Frank: Thanks so much for the suggestions on where to eat in Cleveland. We'll definitely be doing 4th street. (I'd tell you where we're staying, but DOOD handled that and frankly I don't remember that detail. I have to save those brain cells for something important, like drinking.) Your suggestions sound wonderful and gives me many options to float to my extended family. I just WISH you all were going to be around that weekend, along with Lily, but I understand you all have lives to attend to. (Bah.) I'll be thinking of you on the course!

Frank: Have I told you that I think your advice to all of us is just stellar! I read your response to Morgan and it's spot on! It reminds me so much of things I need to look out for myself. Thanks for putting such care into your posts! (Morgan, you and me--and Carrie makes three--need to watch out for each other's backs! I recommend reading Chi Running!)

Cam: That's it, you ARE the WISH team Mom! :woohoo: Now, can I borrow the car and a few bucks for gas? (Okay, make that a lot of bucks.) Add me to the list of women who don't "get" heels. Sneakers, yes. Birks, yes. Even Crocs (though I don't own any). But heels. I avoid them when possible. I'm not graceful enough to carry them off and I think they hurt A LOT. Oh, and WTG on the great, restful bike ride and good luck with C25K tomorrow!

Maura: Oooh, I love audience participation. I always have the wrong answers, so that gives you the first clue in which way to go.... I say do the tri. I think the tri's XT will strengthen your legs for future races and give your knee a break. The training time for the Sylvana sprint is short, but it would keep you focused. You've got a bike expert in the wings, and a women's only event would be a good place, I would think, to get your tri feet wet. Yes, you might be DLF, but we all know that DLF > DNF > DNS! Plus, I get the impression you really love to challenge yourself--I admire that--and that this will be the bigger challenge for you. P.S. Just read Judy's post about the Epcot tix. YOU ROCK!

Kira: I'm glad you will get to observe Mother's Day, even if a little late, and that there were flowers for you in the meantime! I vote for XT, as I'm the type of person who usually focuses on one activity to the exclusion of others. Maybe try something new? Your DD's ballet sounds lovely and quite professional, but what really struck me was the involvement of Jane Yolen. I'm familiar with her work in children's folk and fairy tales, and admire it greatly. So that really spoke to me. :cloud9: I hope you do post some pics.

Judy: Oooh, unpacking. Not fun, but it sounds as if the trip was. It's another set of pics I'm looking forward to seeing.

Bride Michelle: I NEVER think to look on ebay for DVDs, but will now thanks to you. It's the tyranny of the Netflix account and my need for immediate gratification. Great idea! (I won't search for Pilates for Dummies until after you score your copy, though; no need for a ridiculous bidding war.) I'm glad to hear you're pushing yourself but not overextending yourself, KWIM? I wouldn't want you to get injured. For me, the Pilates for Dummies helps me focus on my breathing. You wouldn't think I need to be reminded to do so, but apparently I do. I do think it's so great that you and your mom can do the running thing together. It's bound to create great memories for you both, just like the wedding! :goodvibes

Amy: Awww, how sweet. I can feel the love in your post. Speaking of love, how is that love of running coming along for you today? After all, you really don't want to run as a costumed runner, do you? :rotfl2:

Kristi, part 2: Speaking of love, I think I love you for mentioning the free Haagen Dazs! Would you believe there's no store in my area, though? Inconceivable!

AlohaJeff: :woohoo: for biking to work--environmentally friendly, promotes physical fitness, and helps you save some bucks for Disney races! Is there a downside?? Oh, and thanks for the ITB/tennis ball tip. I have to say, I hope I don't have to try it any time soon. :scared1:

Carrie:
Traveled here last night and staying with the 'rents. Retired people get tired of each other and tend to suck you dry fro conversation and nto let you leave when in their grips, I mean home.
What are you doing staying with MY parents? :rotfl: I'd feel replaced by you, but your description of my home life is so accurate that all nostalgia has been replaced by relief at the hundreds of miles which separate me from DM and DD. Good luck with the intermediate-for-us-it's-advanced yoga!

Jen: Wow, I really hope you can make the January marathon. I didn't know your schedule was so packed in during that month. I know you'd like to volunteer. Do you think you could volunteer for the 5K? Or is it looking like a fly in and out in 2009? :sad2:

As for me: Well, we're moving. Starting in June. Or I should say that DOOD's going to be around the first couple of days in June, helping with the big stuff, and I'm moving the rest. We ran out of energy to continue to look for the "perfect" rental housing, and just called it good. The place is cheap and in the location we want to buy, so those are its advantages. And yes, there is the ice-cream factor going on with the location. But the new digs aren't so comfy as to encourage us to stay long, so that means you lucky folks will get to experience me running through all the ice-cream flavors in all the stores as we look for our permanent home! That also means I'll need to up my exercising in order to "earn" that ice cream.

I'm now taking suggestions as to what ice-cream flavors I should try next. I might try to get a head start on the taste-testing, as it's taper and for some reason all I can think of is food. :lmao: And as much as I wish they had, the biking and weight-lifting I did today didn't take my mind off the sweets.

Look what happens when I miss a week! You guys are already on page 7!?!

I know I won't be able to address all but did want to welcome all the newcomers. And Sailors Wife...don't worry about the DH. My first 1/2 is coming up in August and my DH doesn't think I can do it either. I can't wait to prove him wrong! You can do the same.

I finally got to work out again! :cloud9: I know that sounds funny, but I really did miss it. Got in a good 4 mile run on Sunday and then did a weight circuit and 1/2 mile swim last night.

Ahhhh...I feel so much better!

Debra - Nope, I want to run the 5K and 1/2 (my little Piglet of a race!) I just hate the month of January. I just sit on pins and needles until my schedule folds out. ARGGGG... I did make it clear that I have to do my race tho!!!!

Afternoon team!

I decided to go easy on myself last night and swapped out running with a little bit of hot yoga. The class ran from 8 - 9:30 and it was insanely busy. It was a terrific class with plenty of stretching for my tight legs so I think I made a good decision. The plan for the rest of the week is:

Tuesday: 3 miles, followed by boot camp
Wednesday: biking to/from work, 4 miles, hot yoga
Thursday: biking to/from work, 3 miles, followed by boot camp
Friday: biking to/from work
Saturday: 9 miles, hot yoga
Sunday: bike ride

Should be pretty busy!

Debra - Yay, you found a place! Good luck with the move. I'm looking forward to hearing all about those ice cream adventures.

Jen - Ugh, good luck trying to get that time off figured in January!

AlohaJeff - Sorry to hear about the IT pain. Fingers crossed your tennis ball trick sorted it out.

Amy - I think your plan sounds terrific. If I haven't mentioned it, it was terrific to meet you at the Minnie!

Frank - Have a great trip to Italy!

Michelle - That is terrific that you and your mom can run together. It must be great to keep each other company and/or motivated!

Kira - Here's hoping things ease up for you so you can keep up with your training! I'd probably vote to add in some cross training versus adding in another day of running. Cross training is so beneficial and I realize I could have used more of it when I was training for the Goofy last year. Weight training, biking, pilates, yoga are all terrific activities. It will challenge new muscles and keep you from getting bored!

Maura - Hmm, a fast 10K vs a tri... I'm not sure! I'd love to give a tri a shot but the whole multi-sport thing scares me. What do you wear? What happens at the transition. What if I'm super slow or I get kicked in the face in the water? Um, but not for my silly worries to scare you I think either option is a great one. I'm 50/50!

Cam - Good luck with the C25k W4D2 tomorrow!

Cecilia - Hope the doctor's visit went well for you. :grouphug:

Kristi - Oh no! I don't know what it is with this year, but dare I say it, my silly bronchitis cough seems to have made another appearance. Yes, definitely find a race to train for!

Skywalker Dave - Awesome run!

Tracy - So sorry to hear you've been on a downer. :grouphug:

Mel - Running at POR on Weds? I'm jealous! Have a great run!

Karen - Thanks for the congrats!

Duckie - Thanks! It was great to meet you at the Minnie as well. Thanks for the stories about some of my favourite hockey players!

Scott - The crazy racing schedule is officially over - no race this weekend! Hmm, I wonder if I could find one to do..?? I'll be taking it easy racing wise between now and the marathon in Quebec City. I just have a half marathon scheduled in June. Heehee...just a half...
Loving your trip reports by the way!

Krista - Glad to hear you are doing well!

Sailors Wife, Rich, Jules123, all other newbies I have missed - Welcome to the group!

Oh, and an update on the Disneyland Half - I think I have convinced one of my blogger buddies who ran the Disney Full in January to sign up for the DL1/2. Mention extra bling and it is amazing what happens. Guess that means I'd better sign up too then, eh?

Hi All!

My second post on the Wish boards. My first was on the 5/4 thread. I really enjoy reading these, but I think I have to find some way to hook my computer up to the top of my treadmill!:rotfl: Finding time to READ and exercise can be a challenge.

I hope everyone recovers quickly from injuries and illness (although as new run/walker in training the number of people in pain seem a little scary

Weather permitting I'll run/walk my first 5K this Saturday. On Mother's day I got up and ran three miles in about 42 minutes. Not fast, but my goal at this point is just to be able to keep that 15 minute mile pace for longer and longer races. I stopped by today and picked up a couple books from the library on running. Looking primarily for general knowledge that might help me keep from getting injured.

Thanks for all who posted alternate ways to possibly get into the Half in Jan.
I'm checking into some of those, but I'm not sure I'll be ready for 13 miles by January. If things go well, I'm thinking I might try to the ToT in October, but its coordinating the travel schedule more than the training for that one. We're already schedule to be in WDW 10/30-11/5 - not sure I can swing a quick trip down the weekend before.

BTW, is there any abbreviation or term used for those someone like me who isn't really a runner, but maybe isn't really a walker either? ALthough, maybe with a 15 min mile pace I should just be trying to walk faster:)

Thanks also to all those who post suggestions and ideas for training. I guess I figured I would just start doing 3 miles every day, then 3.5, then 4. etc. All the while trying to keep that 15 minute mile pace. Looks like it might be better to do 3 daily, and only do longer distances a couple days a week. I usually do miss one day week because of work schedules.

Would love to be signed up for team.

Gotta "run"

I just have enought time to hopefully go do 3 miles before I have to pick up DD

Tracy - Hope you're feeling better!

Maura - I'm with Leana. I could never get the hang of what to wear and the transitions in a tri. I'd have to go with the 10K!

Amy - Awwww! :grouphug:

Jen - Hope January works out for you.

Debra - HOORAY!!!! You have a place to live, even if it's only a temporary one.

Kira - I'd go for the cross-training. Actually, I AM doing the cross-training. My current plan has 2 short runs, 1 long run, 1 bike, and 2-3 weights/Pilates. Sometimes the bike and Pilates share a day, so I can have 1 total rest day.

Leana - Hooray on adding the DL Half! I keep hoping I'll find miraculously cheap airfare, but I'm pretty sure I'm dreaming. I still have it on my calendar in hopes that I'll find a way...

Rpsemont - I wouldn't worry too much about trying to do 3 daily. Most of us don't run every day - usually only 3-4 days a week.

Jeanne - Congratulations on the graduation! We gave up Survivor a few seasons back, but our DVR decided this season to start recording it again. No matter how many times we deleted the series recording, it started all over!

Jules123 - :welcome: Great time on your first 5K!

Sailors Wife - :welcome: Isn't it great to be at WDW and not be exhausted? We were there last June for a week and I discovered that the heat didn't bother me nearly as much since I'd been running in it for several weeks already!

Rich - Great success story!

My world: Did 3 miles tonight in my new shoes. I think they're the ones! My PF didn't even bother me as much when I was done as it usually does, which is a really good sign. Did R4/W1 for 10:00, then ran for an entire mile (10:45), then went to R1/W1 just to see what it did for my time. Splits were 11:03, 11:06, 12:16. Conclusion? Running non-stop is actually slower for me than taking the walk breaks (2nd mile was slower), but 1/1 intervals aren't as fast as I thought they might be. Either way, I'm prepared for Saturday's Galloway run, when we do our first timed mile and have to run for an entire mile. Never mind that I pulled out last year's log to see what I did and was quite dismayed to see that I ran a 10:02! Am hoping that I'll have more energy early morning than at the end of the day.

Hey all you guys: I thought I may not be able to do a walk after work do to the smoke outside this morning, but in true FL style the breezes got rid of it and by lunch time all the smell was gone. I went over to the park and got in some miles. I did 2.14 miles 32min 44 sec. Not too bad for just doing a relaxing racewalk. I did some concentrated work on pushing off the toe and such. I did get an ankle pain on the right ankle that I felt at everystep for about 10-15 steps, felt in the front of the ankle. It went away so no big deal - i guess. I am off to watch Dancing with the Stars .
