Wk of May 11 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Happy Mother's Day!

DH had to work - unplanned, had scheduled to be home by the time we were out of church, but never seems to happen that way... DD17 was being a typical teenager... 'nuff said on that subject, so I went to our local running store, who was offering all Galloway members 20% off on shoes this weekend...

I am now the proud new owner of a pair of Saucony Progrid Guides. I like my Mizunos, but I've never felt like they were really the right pair for me, so I tried a different store to see what they might recommend. These were the first ones I put on, and none of the other 5 pairs swayed me, including the Nike Air Zoom Elites that I had and loved before I bought the Mizunos.

Scott - Day 3 of the TR is just as great. Mystic is very happy that it was raining today so she wasn't waiting to go out for her walk while I was reading!

Z/Kevin - One more welcome home!

Debra - Congrats on the Race for the Cure. Sounds like total chaos. Raleigh has 20,000-25,000, but it's usually pretty organized. I missed it last year cause we were at WDW.

Jackie

Kevin Z: I am sooooo happy that you are home, healthy and safe: able to do the wonderful things in life here in America like mow your lawn!! Cool, I love it. You deserve whatever you want to do at this point, if I could I would buy you a nice cold beer or margarita (to make up for cinco de mayo!) Thank you!!

Debra: I saw your post, but don't really know what my race results means to me and for the future. I am debating in my head where I want to go from here. I will still be working on form these next few weeks. I love to racewalk, I like it alot and I love doing Halfs and I kinda liked the 15K, I have never done a 10k and I would like to see how I would do with that. Remember, I have only seriously been into actual racewalking for about a year and a half. I don't really have any training to do this week until Sat when I start up training for the DL half. That doesn't really require me to work on speed, but distance. I will do some speed drills and the such and some more Mount Trashmore runs. (not sure how many hills or overpasses are in the DL half) I may try to look for some 5Ks, but they are few and far between during the summer here in South Florida. I could joing the South Florida Racewalkers group, they said they put on about 10 races a year, just not sure about that yet. I think its early yet to decide if I am a good sprinter or long distance walker. I am alittle bit hesitant but couldn't really tell you why.

Sorry for the longwindedness.

Have a good weekend. I am off to use my foam roller and watch Brothers and Sisters!!

Take care everyone

So, I haven't really done anything since the Minnie 5K/15K last weekend, except for a 2 mile casual jog/walk on friday night with DD...

I second all the people who commented on the FL weather...we are SOOOOO lucky the minnie was last weekend. the breeze was actually pretty cool. This weekend it's from the southwest and warm/humid! I forsee alot of my summer runs taking place on the TM, unless I can get myself out of bed at like 530 AM!!

I plan to get back on the TM regularly starting tomorrow! Disney Half in 09 here I come!

Hi guys!
I'm a newbie to racing and pretty much to running.. I've been wanting to do the Family Fun 5K in Jan at Disney for a couple years and looks like it will be 09 for me... and DH is going to run with me. I have been following the C25K plan since March and have greatly improved my time from avg pace of 16:30 min mile to a 14:30 mile pace and can actually run for 40 mins straight. Just returned from Disney yesterday where for the first time ever I actually got up early 3 days during my trip and went running... and I'm so glad I've started running.. this was the best WDW vacation ever.. no tired legs/feet, more energy ect:cool1: Anyway.. while we were down, DH decided to buy 100 more DVC points, so now we're going down in Sept for the Everest 5k challenge:yay: :yay: I'm so excited, Jan seemed so far away. Now I want to do a half marathon next year, but of course the Jan half is full, so I'm thinking the Princess Run in March might be good... of course, now I'm worried (DH doesn't think I can do a half) since I've never run/walked for more then 4 miles and I don't know how to begin training for that yet.. I'm working on Week 6 of C25K right now, so 3 more weeks of that and I'm running 5 days a week with 2 days of "endurance speed" training (running 40 mins w/ 3 min speed intervals and 10 min warm up and cool down) and 3 days of C25K with an average of 15-20 miles per week. I also do 90min kickboxing 2 days a week after runs (at least that's my plan... I haven't done my kickboxing clas since I started running outdoors-- March-- and plan to start back tomorrow)
Hope I'm posting in the right place.. I'd love to join a group and get involved with everyone and maybe get motivated to run further

Sailors wife: :welcome: You are in the right place. I always tell people to go for it!! I think you can do a Half, heck if I could do a half my first time out and I was a walker, then you can do it. It just takes some preparation and courage to give it a go!! You have plenty of time to train for a March 1/2 marathon. I am not a runner, but I am sure you will get alot of encourgement on this weekly thread to help you along with your goals and your specific training program you will use to help you. I am sure someone will see this and will put you on one of the smaller teams, like I'm on Walt's Warriors.
Good luck to you and keep us posted!!

Amen to mthat!

We had "lake wind advisories" today, with gusts up to 35 mph!

BTW, the wind was nowhere near the direction of the water. It probably woulod have been cooler if it was (so maybe it was actually a "dry & nowhere near water, but really warm& uncomfortable wind advisory"?? )

Spring has finally "sprung" here. I took a long bike ride a couple of days ago, & did not "openly" sweat that much (due to the previously mentioned wind), but when I finished I was COVERED from head to toe in a fine layer of.......... salt.

KId you not. The time for paying attention to proper hydration is here.

Happy Mothers Day to all!!

You guys rock...............

Hi guys, I am absolutely wiped and am heading to bed soon but thought I'd post a quick update for today.

This morning was the Forzani's Mother's Day 5 & 10K here in Calgary. They had about 14,000 people out and it has to be my favourite course that I've run in town here. I had no goal in mind, I just wanted to go out, run comfortably and have a good time. I finished in 1:02:13 or so! I felt great the entire way and only walked at the two water stops they had. Afterwards the BF and I hopped on the bikes for an 18.5 mi ride. Awesome, but no wonder I'm so tired! This afternoon the BF caught a glimpse of my online training log and proclaimed, "wow, you really do a lot of stuff!"

Aloha Jeff: Great job with the 10 miler, as usual. How many people are in your clinic group, total, at this point? Is that adolescent running you told us about last week still in the game? (I hope so, he could really use the experience and guidance.)

Mahalo Debaroni.
Our clinic dropped to about 150 participants today due to it being Mother's Day. Typically we're about 250 strong. Our email bulletin goes out to 500 people worldwide (former Hawaii residents, and military personell).

I didn't see the young man out there today, but did speak to his father last Tuesday, and learned the son recovered by that Sunday night. Food and hydration did the trick. I'm sure he'll be back.

After getting home today, I had to scrub all the salt off the body, since it was about 88 today. Quite hot out, did I STINK! I think I have to buy stock in Gatorade, or invent something better if that's even a possibility.

Watched the Players Championship, then the Queen and Princesses asked to go to the beach. We went down to Ala Moana Beach Park, where the crowds were everywhere. Great way to lounge around after a long Sunday run.

We got home as the sun was setting, and slaved away in the kitchen making my garlic chicken pasta, cheese bread, and salad. Hey, I did 10 miles, I earned a carb load!!! :lmao:

Welcome Sailor's Wife: Sounds like your training is going well. :welcome:

Don't forget it's national "ride your bike to work" week. Friday is the main day to ride. I'm planning to ride Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, depending on my work schedule. Our Costco gas has hit $3.71 for regular unleaded. $4.00  is my thresh hold for riding on a regular basis, except for Tuesday's and Thursday's, my regular running days after work. Yeah, cross training!

sailors wife -- :welcome: This is an awesome place to find support and encouragement and advice, though it sounds as if you are doing awesome already!

Deborah -- That race sounds very relaxed. Perfect, as far as I'm concerned, though I'm glad you were done before the skies opened up!

Jackie -- So sorry DD17 is being "17". I remember those days. Right now, we are in a big debate about whether Jenn is going to be moving into an apartment with her best friend. UGH!! They grow up way too fast and sometimes the maturity level doesn't match, unfortunately. Congrats on the new Saucony's!! :woohoo:

Kevin -- So glad you are home, sweetie, and able to do relaxing things like mowing the lawn! No wonder you and Howard are such good friends -- he finds mowing the lawn relaxing, too! What a relief it is to all of us to know you are running under much safer conditions. I am sure the "cooler" weather and lack of body armor will result in much better runs, too. :thumbsup2 :cool1:

Jen -- Kudos to you for getting out for your walk. Give Paul a HUGE hug from me for always being so encouraging!

Leanna -- You are a machine! Please take good care of yourself! :cutie:

Tracy -- I hope you'll relax a bit this week before you start training for the DL 1/2. Your results are so impressive! There was a racewalker behind me and Rhonda at the Minnie and as she sped past us we could hear her giving advice on form -- arm positioning, keeping your head up to allow air to get through, etc. and someone asked her if she was "the speedwalker from the NY marathon" and she said yes. Let me tell you- she was impressively fast and she blew all the stereotypes out of the water. WOW! :cool1:

My training: yesterday was endurance training as I searched wayyy too many stores for pretty girly shoes to fit my "wanna wear running shoes" bear paws. (yes, that's what Howard calls them! :lovestruc ). I did find a cute pair of white lacey skechers for the reception (how's that for a compromise!! I was making all sorts of promises to my paws, er, feet as I squeezed them into girly shoes with the compromise being girly shoes for the ceremony and first dance and "trainers" for the rest of the time :lmao: ).
Today was W4D1 of C25k. Having jogged for more than 6 minutes straight on Saturday gave me the mental boost to think I could do it, and it really wasn't as bad as I feared. Some good hip-hop music and a couple soundtrack songs helped those 5 minute jogging intervals go a bit easier. :yay: I had a bit of tension in my left quad but no hip or ankle issues, thank God. I'll put ice on the quad today, just to baby it a bit. I am actually looking forward to W4D2 Wednesday. :faint:

Just like to say hello again haven't been here in awhile. I started running in 2003 and weighed 290 lbs. We were going to Disney with extended family and were having a race to Kilimanjaro Safaris and i didn't want to be last. I started training at 1 mile a day. Now 5 year later I weigh 165 lbs and average between 6 and 7 miles a day. If there is any rooster spots on a team left i'd love to join. Also I will be running the Rite-Aid half this weekend if anyone else is running say Hi Rich

Rich -- Your story is awesome and so inspiring! :thumbsup2 Congratulations for totally changing your life! :woohoo:

Yikes! 3 pages already!!

Catching up from last week:

Johanna - Welcome!!!

Leana - Congrats on teh awesome run!

Jackie - An LR is an LR. If I do it on my LR, day, it's my LR adn it goe from 2 miles to 20 miles. Of course, I do refer to soem as LLRs, but that does not make you LR any less!

Tracy - COngras ont eh 5K!

Deb - What's your favorties new flavor so far?

Cam - Way to go on the W3D3 and teh jog home!!!!!!

I did 5 miles on Saturday. very hilly, but my legs did not do too badly for ehir frist day back.

BTW, I feel I shoudl clarify my "advanced" yoga classs. It was advanced to me, but it was really just an intermediate class. Still, plenty advanced fro me, though. :rotfl: Sadly, it looks like work is deeming that as my only option for this week too. Heven help me!

I may try to look for some 5Ks, but they are few and far between during the summer here in South Florida. I could joing the South Florida Racewalkers group, they said they put on about 10 races a year, just not sure about that yet. I think its early yet to decide if I am a good sprinter or long distance walker. I am alittle bit hesitant but couldn't really tell you why.

Tracy - just wanted to let you know about some upcoming 5ks in South Florida. On Memorial Day (May 26) there is a 5k run/walk in Boca - this one is put on by the Boca Raton Road Runners (I can get you more info if you PM me) and on June 28th there is a 5k run/walk in Deerfield Beach at Quiet Waters Park - its called the Freedom 5k - I did it last year and since it was my first offical 5k I have to do it again this year. This one is put on by the Greater Ft Laud Road Runners. In the end of July I am planning on doing a 5k at Dreher Park in West Palm - I know it would be a hike for you since its a good distance away from my. I can probably find some more that are south further (since I am in southeast Palm Beach county) that may be of interest to you. The ones I named above are ones I am definately going to be doing.

Kevin - Thanks for serving our country and so happy you are home safe. Relax and enjoy those things we normally take for granted - you deserve it!!

Welcome to Sailor's Wife and Rich :cool1:

Good morning Wish team!! Happy Monday!!!! Happy Belated Mother's Day, I hope everyone had a very relaxed Mother's Day. I'm going to try to keep up with the thread this week, I made it until I think Thursday last week and then it just got too overwhelming. :)

Scott--We are about 15 minutes from Kings Island, in fact Stephen can see the Beast and Drop Zone from his office window at work. This year is the first year Kings Island is under the ownership of Cedar Fair--ie. Cedar Point, I am hoping for some great things now that Paramount doesn't own KI anymore. Come and visit us anytime!!! There is actually a 5K/10K through Kings Island the weekend before I'm due in August (8/10), I'd love to walk it, but I'm not naive enough to believe that's going to happen. :) Thanks for posting your blog link again, I was wanting to read your TR, but wasn't sure where to find it.

Z/Kevin--Welcome home!!! I am so happy to hear that you are home safe and sound. Enjoy cutting the grass, vegging on the couch and just being with your family. :goodvibes

Mel--So sorry it's getting nasty in FL right now. Stephen and I talked about going to WDW this week a few months ago, but then we bought a new car and the baby's furniture, so put WDW on the backburner. I'm burning up here in OH where the temps are in the low 70's, I don't think I could deal with the FL heat right now! Great job with getting the 5 miles in, I agree with Vic, they don't have to be pretty!

Jen--Is it snowing in WI still?? Stephen is looking into doing a 1/2 Ironman in WI in Sept, I was wondering if it was snowing in Sept there yet. ;) ;) ;) Your camping sounds like fun, I'm glad there was no drama from the girls, to me that sounds like the best Mother's Day present. :) I know how you feel with getting burned out, been there done that!!

Cam--I'm sure your feet will look beautiful in January!! We'll have to send you lots of :wizard: that you don't get any blisters on Saturday!!! So how much planning do you have completed on your VR?

Leana--You race more than any person I know!!! Congrats on another great time! It's about time your BF realizes just how much you do!! :thumbsup2

Debra--That race sounds interesting. It reminded me of the Flying Pig last weekend (not the lack of organization part), I saw people who were doing the 1/2 strolling along (not walking, but literally strolling, like they were at the mall or something) in jeans and sweatshirts. I was like, um, you DO realize that is a 1/2 marathon, right--13.1 MILES??? Maybe pick up the pace a little bit and wear some running clothes. I was not envying the chafing they would experience later on in the race!

Terri--Congrats on the A!! :wizard: for your ankle!! Are you running Disney in January??

Shan--:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your surgery!! I hope everything goes well. It sounds like you and I will both be out of commission and should be cleared to start running again about the same time. Hopefully we can both get back in the saddle quickly to train for January!

Aloha Jeff--I'd love to be close enough to work to be able to bike! I'm only 16 miles away (going highway, going roads is longer), but its a long and very, very congested 16 miles, it usually takes me about 45-60 minutes to get to work depending on traffic and if there are any accidents. I hope you made your garlic chicken pasta for your lovely wife!!!

Dave--Great to see you here again! Sorry the 6 miles were not great, but at least they are in the book. Have a great time at WDW!!

:welcome: to all the new members!!!

As far me, not much to report. The baby is still doing great, I'm starting to feel like a punching bag though. He kicks a lot and is getting to be quite strong! I go back to the doctor on 5/22--dreading the weigh in process!! I think after that appointment I start going every 2 weeks. I did re-buy Marathoning for Mortals on Friday night, I seem to have lost my copy, I think my Mom may have it, but it was falling apart anyway. I was reading the chapter on the race morning and I was getting so excited. I'm so ready to have this baby, get skinny again, and get back to running! I think I'm going to start doing the walk a 1/2 marathon program for the next 13 weeks (give or take) to keep me on a schedule. I was thinking once the baby is born I'll take a couple of weeks off and then do a month of walk 1/2 program again. Once my doctor clears me to run I think I'm going to do the walk/run 1/2 program until I start real 1/2 marathon training in October. At least that's the plan I came up with 4:00 in the morning on Saturday night/Sunday morning when I couldn't sleep. :)

I hope everyone has a great day!!!

Krista

KevinZ - Welcome Home!!!! Isn't the weather lovely? Well except for Sat. night. :scared1:

I ran the Cotton Row race course (the 10K I've been training for) on Saturday. I wore my new WISH hat proudly. :cool2: I swear I felt like I had all of you running along with me and cheering for me. I finished in 1:18:51! In Jan. when I met some of you at the Pop Meet, I NEVER thought I would ever be able to run that far. Well, now I know I can, and I feel like I will be able to do it even faster. I couldn't have done it without all of you. :grouphug: Y'all are such a supportive bunch. :cheer2: I am a better and healthier person thanks to all of you. I'll keep you posted on how the race goes at the end of the month.

Cam - SO proud of you for watching that negative talk!!! :goodvibes Somethign we all need to be aware of. I really thikn it woudl eb great if we could all see ourselves through other WISHers eyes!

Terri - :grouphug: Hope the doc gives you answers adn a fix!

kz - Welcoem home!!!!!!! SO glad you are back! Best it was teh world's best mother's day gift fro Kristen too!

Jen - Woo hoo for enjoyign that campground run adn for a tear-free trip!

Sailor's Wife - Welcome! Sounds sliek you have already done great things! Can't wait to share more with you!

Rich - Wow. That is so great. Huge congrats!!! hope to see you around more!

SWDave - Scott and I go without ressies a lot. LeC is probably the hardest to get. However, we got the distinct impression last year that they did have walk ins taht they keep available. SO, you might have a chance to get in if you go there as soon as WS opens.

Tracy - Holy cow! You wre busy this weeknd!

Hello everyone. It’s been a while since I posted but wanted to say hello again. I went back through last weeks threat and read up.

Debra- Good luck on the Cleveland half. It is a very fast course and I enjoyed it. The expo will most likely be underwhelming, but don’t judge us by it. The Pgh Race for the Cure sounds like ours. It is just too big to be all that organized especially since many of the participants are not all that familiar with doing big run/walk events. It is for a good cause though and raises a ton of money.

Tracy- The 5K looked amazing, I did like running by the water while I lived in FL. We do run by Lake Erie up here but the greenish brown water can’t beat the blue of the Gulf or Tampa Bay.:beach:

Amykab- I pretty much do night running once summer gets here, this was especially true when I lived in FL. I get out and do some runs during the day just so I am ready for hotter races but I LOVE running after dark in the summer. That being said a lot of people don’t feel safe running after dark so it isn’t for everyone.

Sailors wfe- Welcome to the world of running/walking. You are on the right page. I think if you start training now to do the half in the spring you might be fine. Everyone is different so you will have to judge for yourself but I think if you only train for the 5K now and don’t start training for the half until after the 5K it might be a bit hard to get the miles in such a short time.

There are a lot variables that come in thought. For example will you jog the 5K but run/jog the half? The slower pace would make it easier. A good rule to go by is the 10% rule. It just means that you shouldn’t up your weekly miles by more than 10% from one week to the next. So if you walk/jog/run 5 miles this week you want to do 5.5 next week, 6.05 the week after that, 6.65, 7.32 ect. Just make sure to listen to your body, you’ll know if you are pushing too hard.

I did a couple of 5K’s this weekend. On Saturday there was a run through the Cleveland Metroparks zoo. The course is very hilly but running through the zoo is a lot of fun. When we ran past the ostriches they were just running around in circles. Then when we went past the reindeers they ran along with us as far as they could. There are usually 2 or 3 runs in the zoo and they are always a good time.

Then yesterday there was a run here at a place called The Pub. The Pub is kind of our local soccer bar here and for those of you who don’t know I am quite the footy fan. Anyway, I went up to see if they would be opening early for the Man U and Chelsea and found out that a Formula 1 club meets there during races. I know where I will be spending every other Sunday this summer. :car: The course was up along Lake Erie and was windy but we got it in before the rain came so I was happy about that.

Ok, that is all for me. Man, when you don’t post for a few days you end up with a pretty long post.

Hello everyone! I'm trying to play catchup from last friday, so first and foremost, HAPPY (belated :headache: ) Mother's Day to everyone out there!!! I tried to get on yesterday but it was just too crazy for me!

Michelle, I'd say your Mom would benefit best from Pilates even if it is a modified version. Core strength is very important. I'd recommend general cross training weights/machines or swimming then anything else she can fit into a busy schedule. I find that in the order I mentioned it helps my almost 58 y/o body. Best WISHes to her and you as you mosey along the training fun.

Lily, thanks for the advice for my mom!! I was worried that since she is older she might not like the pilates, but I am just speculating. It seems like a lot of people here like it a lot, so I'm hopping she does too b/c I love it!

Michelle,

I totally agree with Lily (and I'm also a little biased as an instructor)...but Pilates is probably the overall best core strengthening/balancing workout. A classical pilates class may be the best idea if she has access to a studio or fitness center that teaches it. There are many things called "pilates" that are not in fact true pilates. She'll find that a true pilates class, with a certified instructor, will make the class easy to follow and help her to do the exercises correctly so she doesn't injure herself. The videos are great but I only recommend a few that are true to the Pilates method:

Pilates for Dummies: The best overall dvd imo. It has both a beginner and intermediate workout. Exercises are taught true to the form and the instructor is very knowledgeable. Mainly found on Amazon.

Stott Pilates: Anything in this series is safe and effective. Unfortunately they are a little "boring" at times but a very good pilates workout. There are dozens to choose from, can be found on Amazon, Borders, etc. I like the Core Challenge one best.

Gaiam: These workouts are a little fused with yoga but overall Ana Caban is a solid instructor.

I still always recommend taking a class, even if it's only one class, to get the flow and breathing down. Most pilates studios offer walk-in classes for between $10-$15 and it's a good way to acquaint yourself with the exercises before using the dvd. Typically there is no pressure for a commitment.

Hi Amy, thanks so much for all of the info! This is awesome, I'm going to paste this in an email and send it to my mom later. I am wondering, have you heard/ tried Winsor Pilates and what is your feeling on her method? The three workout tapes I got on ebay were Winsor. I can't remember if there is a gym/studio close to my parents house, but I'm hopping she can take a class to master the moves, as they are pretty different and unique. She used to take all kinds of aerobic classes, but pilates is a much different type of workout! Thanks again for your help I really do appreciate it!

Bride Michelle: About the dress...I say as long as you're still having fun shopping and not stressing about it, keep doing it! Builds the anticipation & the bridal party memories! :goodvibes I love the idea of Pilates muscles--long, lean, strong; I hope to get there. I don't know, I think your mom might like pilates [echoing Lily & Amy here] or even yoga. Or she might try some weight training. My FC has classes in all these things that are designed for beginners and/or seniors.

I also loved your description about being in the zone of running. It's happened to me before, but rarely. It's one of those goals for me, being present in the running moment. And so I appreciate it when others describe their moments for me. P.S. I like Bride Michelle as a name--it marks a very special year for you!

And pepper spray in the bedroom??? Man, I am SO vanilla.

So I had a "take your breath away" moment while looking online at more wedding dresses. lol. I'm really excited to try this one on! So fun! Its by the same designer as the first dress I loved, so I think its going to be just lovely! I live in another state from my family so it makes doing wedding stuff on a regular basis a bit difficult. This past weekend my sis and I were supposed to go to a bridal shop on LI (where they live), but then I had to cancel b/c DF was with me and I didn't want to leave him alone for hours while sis and I went out and shopped. I just felt bad. SO, hopefully we'll be able to get together soon and go again! I'm going to try and get some "sneaky" pics of the dresses on me the next time we go and then I'll post them here for everyone to see! I'm assuming, of course, that everyone is SOOO interested in my wedding plans and wants to see it! hehehe :rotfl: I really like "bride Michelle" too. I'm going to need to find a new nick name after this year, when I'm no longer a bride.... then I'll just be somebody's wife! lol:rotfl:

I really hope my mom likes the pilates tapes I left for her over the weekend. I told her to try them out and let me know how she likes it. I think she will, since she used to really be into workout tapes and going to the gym and all that!

Luckily DF has not given me any reason to use the pepper spray on him in the bedroom! LOL :lmao: no really, I'm so vanilla too, I wasn't even sure what they meant by it at first... in fact, I'm still not sure 100% what they mean by "in the bedroom" haha

CB Michelle - Looks like a busy weekend ahead for you...I hope everything goes well! I second the thoughts on Pilates as an incredible strength training program...I bet she might like some of the exercises :goodvibes:

Scott, it was quite a busy weekend! We rushed down to LI sat morning to see my mom, then back up to CT to see DF's mom! Whew! AND, the best news of all, My mom and I ended up running 7 miles saturday evening, which was just incredible! I mean, we did it rather slowly (I think about an hour and 20 mins?) but it was so amazing. We just keep feeling like we could go and go and go...and so we did. It was such a good feeling. I felt like I could run forever. Truely amazing. We're trying the pilates tonight and she's giving me a full report on how she likes it!

Awesome job on you weekend of runs/bike rides etc. 13 miles on the bike :thumbsup2 That really makes me want to get a bike of my own,... what an incredible workout! I used to spin years back when I was young (and being that I'm still young, I'm talking like 16yrs. old LOL), it was awesome! The best workout I ever got was from spinning. I really want to go get a bike and incorporate that into my training, I think it would do wonders! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

CB Michelle – Where did you order pepper spray from? I’ve been thinking about doing that for awhile now. Also – “in the bedroom”? We probably don’t even want to know what they mean by that!

LOL, yea we probably dont!!! :rotfl:
I ordered it from this website:
https: //www. personalarms .com/index. htmv (I put some spaces in there b/c sometimes links dont post correctly...) I chose the Police grade pepper spray ( think its the blue bottle)
So far I haven't received the pepper spray, so I can't say that I'm overly impressed with them, but it was a whole 4 oz can for about 10 bucks. I saw a lot of websites offering half oz, and 1 oz cans for the same price, so I decided this was the best deal I could find. I'll let you know when I get it, and how I like it, how big it is, etc. BUT I wish it would get here already!!!!!! I'm a bit impatient!:headache:

Tracy GREAT job on the 5k race!! :thumbsup2

JacobsMommy11002 :welcome: I registered for the DW half marathon late (registration through Disney was closed), so my mom and I signed up through the travel company Anthony Travel. So far, no problems! I've heard good things from other people, so go for it if you can!

sailors_wfe :welcome: I'm sure someone probably already mentioned this, but if you want to try to run in the Jan 09 half at DW, you might still be able to get a race registration through a travel company. Anthony Travel is the one I signed up through b/c I waited too long! Doh! Check out this link there are a bunch of charities you can run for too! With the travel company Anthony, I had to book three nights with them at a resort, and got a race registration. Since I'm going to be in Disney that weekend for other reasons, this wasn't a big deal for me, as we're going to be staying for a few days (sweet). Link to Marathoning HTHs and again, welcome!

OK, if i Missed anyone, HELLO, great job on the training, KEEP up the good work!

As for me: Friday night I ran an easy 3 miles in about 35 mins, which made me stoked b/c I'm getting my time back! I used to run a comfortable 9 min mile, and pushing with effort an 8 min mile. So I'm getting there, and its only been 2.5 weeks which makes me happy! I got barked at by another [BIG SCARY] dog on Friday and ALMOST ran for my life again, but I wasn't "in the zone" so I realized quickly he was chained up and it was good. Saturday was our trip to Long Island to see mom for mothers day and we went for a FANTASTIC run Saturday evening. We started out with 3.5 miles in mind, and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to finish that, but something clicked at the end of 3.5 and we just kept going and going and going. We did 7 miles in about an hour and 20, and we seriously could have gone more, but it was getting dark and chilly, so we headed home. It was a great great accomplishment for me and mom! We both felt great Sunday morning (although I crashed at about 10 pm Saturday night I was so tired). I'm planning on incorporating one long run each week (probably on Saturdays or Sundays) for now, and seeing how I do with that. Ok that's all for now! More to come as the week progresses.

Hope everyone is having a great Monday!

Morning WISHers! "Happy" Monday!

Mel, oy that's a humid day! The 76 degrees sounds lovely though. I am already half dreading the humidity and temps for our June trip. It will be a whole new running experience for me!!

Dave, sorry to hear about the bad run but you are right - at least you got out there!

Johanna that's so cool that your kids preordered you Wii Fit! I am so excited for it to come out.

Shan good luck with the PT!

Cam, you crack me up!! Shoe shopping is the greatest stress reliever ever in my book, but its your vow renewal who says you can't wear trainers!

Terri, congrats on your A and I hope your ankle heals up fast.

WWDave - darn it! I am neither farmer nor mom. I guess I better learn to grow something :rotfl:

Tracy, thanks for the photos and congrats on your new shiny bling!

Z/Kevin Welcome Home!!!

Debra I loved reading your RftC report. I did the one here in Cleveland last year as a part of my work team and it sounds like the two are very similar. I was convinced that if I stopped walking I'd still be shuttled across the finish line due to the sheer amount of people. It was like a cattle herd!

Jen yay for good runs!! Don't you just love being reminded why you love getting out there!?

Jackie woo hoo for new shoes!! I must apologize on behalf of your daughter because I know I was a living nightmare of a brat as a teenager!!

Welcome SailorsWife!!

Leana you should definitely be proud of what you have accomplished! You are an inspiration to me!

Rich - wow! I hope I can come back in a few years and say the same for me. What a great story!!

Carrie, I remember my yoga instructor telling us that there is no such thing as a beginners yoga class because even the most experience yogi can modify things to make it challenging - so with that in mind everyone can have an advanced class no matter what!

Krista, sorry the baby has turned you into a punching bag! Maybe there's a budding soccer star starting in there!

Frank, congrats on your 5ks! I give you extra kudos because yesterday was totally rainy and dreadful!! I've been meaning to go to the Pub but I don't make it over to RR that often now that I don't work over there.

Bride Michelle, wow 7 miles!! That's incredible!

As for me.. last Monday I had some back pain issues but then they went away and so I blew them off. And then Thursday I had some back pain after my run but I wrote it off as poor posture on the dreadmill.. and then Saturday rolled around and we went out for 3 and the last 1/4 mile was all hills and I had the most excruciating back pain. I decided that I was a runner now so I should just push through it (doh!) and I've been in pain since then. Jeff tried to massage some of the muscle imbalances but he barely touched them and I was howling in pain. Sitting here at work feels like someone is resting 20lb weights on my back. So, I've got an appointment with the doctor tomorrow morning to get a referral to a chiropractor. I know I should skip tonight's run but any set back makes me fearful. Plus, exercise would be better than sitting around right?

Morgan--If you are in pain, sitting around tonight is MUCH better than running. Do not run through pain like that. You will not lose anything by skipping a run, but could aggrivate an injury further by running on it. Good luck at the doctor's tomorrow, hopefully they will have some answers for you. :goodvibes

Oh, I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining about the baby moving so much, I love it that he is so active. It lets me know that all is a-okay with him and he is doing fine. :thumbsup2
