Wk of Mar 30 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Good morning everyone.

Will you guys with the flu bugs get over them and get back to being your happy healthy selves. I don't usually get colds or flu bugs but I remember how yucky they make you feel. When you get my age you have most of the immunity built up to everything.

Everyone have a super day and a wonderfull weekend.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Carol - I'd love to do that race fro sentimental reasons. That's where our 1st 20-miler was. DOn't see us flying down fro it, though. :( You shoudl do it for us! ;)

Cecelia - Hope you feel better soon!

TXAng - Good to see you!!! Maybe beign an 5K imposter is just what you need to get going again. ;) lol. You could never be an imposter!

Debra - ROTFL! At least you weren;t the one flying off! Just to make me feel better. Please tell me he tried to get back on to save face. :p lol. You shoudl have seen the posture I caught myself in last night. :scared1:

Kristi - Hope those allergies clear up soon!

Jeff - DOn't know if I hope for strep or not. ;) DOn't wish you sick, but sometimes knowing drugs will amke it go away is good.

Leana - I need taht tea recipe! Glad it helped!

Amy - :rotfl2: I hate those days! Thanks to ChiRUnning I've been havign the days where I'm not as slow as I feel more often. Hope youget more of those soon! Even better, hope you get those feel like you're flyign days and you are.

Last night I cross-trained and obtained a new PR. I will have shirts out within 24 hours of receiving them. :cool1: Huge thanks to my dh for helping, as usual.

How does the Gu taste? I'm going to try it out...I've been using Power Gels but they haven't always settled as well during the bigger races.

I know this wasn't a question for me, but I'm going to jump in. :) The Gu's are pretty good, well as good as a gel can be. ;) I used to buy the Power Gels and they made me sick too, I haven't gotten sick from a Gu once since we started using them last summer. I buy our's on www.runningwarehouse.com, using the Wish discount (WISHD), you can get a box of Gu's with free 2nd day air for $21.25. So far we've tried the vanilla, orange burst, and berry--I like the orange burst the best.

Enjoy your rest today!!!

Okay, back to getting caught up with everyone!

Krista

Amy - We always iuse Gu. We like orange, berry adn lime. They are cleaner tastes. Don't let enyone talk you into chocolate, especially when it's cold. Gag!

No run/ walk today. I am way too tired from work. I think the next one will be Saturday.

So, someone told me I look like I'm losing weight. That made me feel good, even though I weighed myself yesterday, and no change. I COULD be toning, so I look thinner, but not really. Maybe it was my loose scrubs!!

Anyway, so one of our nurse's aides overheard me say I was training for a marathon. He asked where at, and I told him. He asks, "You're a little too old for Disney World, don't you think?" I'm like, no, what planet are you from? And everyone else around thought he was crazy. Anyway, a minute later he said, "You won't finish. You'll stop running 100 meters out, like I would do." I am not trying to be mean, but he is probably close to 400 lbs. Even if I NEVER trained, I do think I could go farther than him. Not 30 seconds later, he fell out of the chair, hitting the floor HARD. He hurt his shoulder, so I had to take him to the ER. But I wanted to tell him, "That's what you get for being very rude to me," but I didn't say it. But..... Nannie Nannie Boo Boo!!! I mean, really, why would you say something so rude, and be so negative. Its one thing for ME to think I can't do it, but for someone to say that to my face, just plain.... HORRIBLE!

I just had to tell someone that. Others training as hard as I am would understand how GOOD I felt when he got his comeupins! I didn't feel good that he was hurt, but the fact that he embarrassed himself, when he was really trying to hurt me and embarrass me in front of half the staff!

Happy running to you all! I don't think tomorrow looks like a good day, since we're supposed to get some severe storms tonight, and into the am. Say a prayer for us!

Good Morning all!!!

Scott...How did your 5/6 miler go last night?

Krista...I hope hope he keeps is days and nights staright too! lol!

Leana...You speedy thing! You can totally do a sub-30!

Kristi..:wizard: for your 1/2 on Sunday!!! Hope your allergies get better!

Deb...You leave tomorrow!!!:cool1: I'm so excited for you! Hey, Ride ToT once for me too! It is my fav! I could do it all day! No, wait, I take that back. After 6 times in a row...I feel  :goodvibes Have a great time!

Amy...Ms Abs of Steel here! Way to go! 4 classes...Good lord girl! What a great run you had. I know you felt slow, but I'm still impressed! You continue to amaze me!

Cecilia...:wizard: for your cold!!! Feel better!

Jeff...Good news that you are feeling better!

For me...For me...Yesterday was a complete failure workout wise. I was supposed to do 4 miles. Nope. didn't happen. What went wrong??? :confused3 It was beautiful day. I just didn't have it in me. I started out walking to warm up and then started my run. I got about .4 miles done and my right shin start aching...bad! I ended up trying to walk fast and that just made the shin worse. I hobbled down the block into my drive way. So...instead of pushing myself. I quit. I feel so defeated. I did pump up the tires on my bike (workout in itself!) and ride for about 10 min up and down my street. I wanted to try to keep my HR up for a while longer so it wouldn't totally be a waste. Between the attempt to run and the minuscule bike ride, I got in 2.6 miles total and about 25 min of activity. Ugh. :headache:

On a positive note...We got our Magical Express info in the mail yesterday. That did make me forget about my shin for split second! :goodvibes

Happy training everyone!!! :wizard: for those nursing injuries!

Stacie

Morgan - OMG. WHat a jerk! Hope he learned a lesson, not that i want to see anyon hurt either. Sad, how jealousy can bring out such nastiness. Yes, we all understand!

Starkiss: Welcome!

Leana: Lucky you! I wanted to see SotM but it didn't show near me when I could go see it :guilty: Have fun! And good luck on the wisdom teeth...I lay around and watched Disney movies all day (whilst all drugged up)...it was grand! And can I have some of that tea?? Definitely wear a marathon shirt! popcorn:: I love the cola flavored bloks idea :rotfl:

Debra: :woohoo: on the Ohana (not to mention DISNEY TRIP) Can I come? Pretty please....:flower3: Nice run! yall who brave the TMs :sad2:

Cecilia: :mickeybar If you lick this it will make you feel better ::yes::

Carrie: ooo thanks for the yoga reminder! I used to do it all the time but I've been slacking off :rolleyes1 And yay for the shirt packing CT! :yay:

Bill: That cake is awesome! :thumbsup2

Angie: Getting up at 4 AM plus doing speedwork on a TM???? You are crazy girl! What time does your gym open? That stinks that the instructor didn't show :sad2:

Carol: Good job on the 4 miler! Anything on a TM counts as a long way IMHO. It stormed here yesterday and with all the yellow pollen it looked like a giant dog had peed everywhere :crazy2:

Lily: Yay for the comeback! Don't overdo it though (I would so manage to hurt myself if I had to take much time off...)

Morgan: Great run over hills! ...now what are those again??? ;) And whenever you see him just think of wearing the metal in front of him when you are finished! And you definitely need a pair of ears to go with it!

Panda: :cool1: Good job on the weight!

Kristi: party: :jumping1: :dancer:

Stacie: Anniversary at the World??? Lucky duckies!!!! :teeth: And better to take some time off for your shins then to be forced off because you really hurt something by overworking it.

Krista: Aww thats cute that he has his own little schedule! Now if it stays that way you will be :cloud9:

Amy: Hey it's not the speed that counts anyway... (*cough cough* unless there's someone you really want to pass). Kudos to you for the 4 hour pilates workout there!

:artist:

I had a nice CT/rest day yesterday...an easy rollerblade around the lakes and a short swim. Now I'm off to bike over to my boyfriend's house so I can run [jog] with his roommate's girlfriend's dog (the dog lives at his house since she's not allowed a pet at her place!). Only a 4 miler, so hopefully I won't kill him!

"You won't finish. You'll stop running 100 meters out, like I would do."

Morgan - That is so rude of him to say!!! Jealousy for sure, so don't let it get to you. Sounds like karma came around though. Of course you can do this!!

The Asian cough syrup my coworker uses is called Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa (http://www.ninjiom.com/first.html) and it contains euphorbia and taraxacom. He adds it to a mug of hot water and mixes in honey, lemon juice and ginger extract (available from health food stores) to help "improve" the taste. I think you can find it in health food stores or check your local Chinatown. Anyhow...this stuff is amazing!

Anyway, so one of our nurse's aides overheard me say I was training for a marathon. He asked where at, and I told him. He asks, "You're a little too old for Disney World, don't you think?" What a JERK!

He's just trying to put you dwon to make feel better about himself. I mean he apparently wants folks to believe that his "body" is in good shape??:rotfl:

Stacie, maybe your body was trying to tell you to take it easy. Don't beat yourself up. You don't want to injur yourself.

Shan - How are you feeling after Sunday's race? Did you make a decision about the Country Music Half yet?

Krista
- Nice work on getting the baby trained to sleep at night already!! Have you felt the wave of the mini-Terrible Towel yet? I'm sure he already has one...:rotfl: Thanks for the info abut the GU gels...I picked one up for free on the ING course and am gonna try it out on Sunday. I like the PowerBar Gels but am always looking for variety...orange burst just sounds yummy!

Stacie - The kilt...I'd LOVE to make it happen, but those things are $80! I think we'll coordinate something else and save the money for Disneyland :) Anyway...shrug that run off...sorry to hear that it wasn't a good one for you. Rest up the shin and ice it if you need to. Is it still hurting today?

Leana - Yes, wear your medals! At least wear the shirt! That was an awesome run yesterday and I'm positive you can sub-30 a 5k, way to go!

Kristi
- Congrats again. Take care of yourself leading up to the half this Sunday! Sorry to hear about your allergy issues...that's the bad thing about springtime.

Debra
- 20 miles on a treadmill?? I can't even fathom the idea. Holy cow. Did you see that thread about the running helmet?...just thinking...you know...don't want to see you hurt ;)

TXAng
- You still have a couple weeks before the 5k...maybe you can still put something together?

Carol
- Yep, pollen season is here! That heavy yellow dusting will go on for a couple weeks. Nothing like going out for a walk or run and coming back with visible yellow pollen all over your shirt. I haven't done the Silver Comet Half, but I've done the 10k there and I bike there every Saturday...It's an awesome trail that proves to be flat and fast.

AlohaJeff - Glad to see you could still manage a 6 miler despite the troublesome throat. Hope you heal up soon!

Carrie - Great news about your workout! And a big THANK YOU for handling those shirt orders!

Goddess of all things Pilates - Good job getting out there for that run. I'm sure the 4 hours of pilates the day before, the hills and the bad weather conditions had nothing to do with the pace :rotfl: You've accomplished a lot the last few months with your training...stick to your guns and good luck with the speedwork tomorrow! Oh yeah, congrats to your DD for getting the casts off

Scott's World
- I did 6.2 miles last night through the neighborhood at a decent 9:13 pace. My legs were tight when I started out, but seemed to loosen up a few miles into it. The weather cooperated and made it really nice to be out there...hope we get to enjoy a few weeks of moderate temps before things soar into the heat of summer. Back to the FC for me tonight, but I think I might bike there and back as opposed to driving..that'd be a healthy change of pace :goodvibes:

Hope everyone has a great day today!

Checking in before I become MIA next week. We leave for WDW tomorrow night. :woohoo:

I ran for the first time this morning since my half last Sunday. I wanted to run 3 miles, but had to stop at 2 miles. Pace was 10:58, but my left leg that hurt me during the last couple miles of my half started acting up. I thought I felt better, but apparently I have done something to it. I can't even pinpoint where the pain is coming from. It is like my whole left leg hurts. I had to limp back to my driveway.

I was looking forward to running around the Epcot resort area, but it is looking like next week I might have to skip running. :headache:

Maybe it is a good thing I didn't already sign up for the CMM.

I want to run!!!

I hope all of you have an awesome next week. I will miss you guys! :grouphug:

Shan - Is it a burning pain or just a hurt. The only time my hwole leg hhurt was when I had nerve issues. Rest that leg *** much as you can and have a great trip!

Scott - A "decent" 9.3 pace. Yeah, that would be flying for me! (I knowwe are all at our own levels, just struck me funny). COngrats on teh good run!

Hi everyone! The reports of my demise are false. I am actually alive and well in Delaware. :thumbsup2 Sorry for my absence lately but I have been a smidge busy.

I have some running to report! I went to the YMCA to get a few miles in this morning. I took the day off of work because this is my "Spring Break" week and I had to do something other than more school work and work.

I ran 3.1 miles in 30:33 (9:52 pace). I am not proud of that, but it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I have not really run any distance since WDW in January.

I have 48 days of class left and 58 to Commencement. :cool1: :cheer2: :thumbsup2 Once this school thing is over, I am jumping into a full blown training program for the October Marine Corps Marathon, followed closely by the Philadelphia Marathon.

I am inspired by all of your efforts. Keep up the great effort and training!

:grouphug:

Howard

Hi everyone! The reports of my demise are false. I am actually alive and well in Delaware. :thumbsup2
So, who's gonna' tell Cam she doesn't egt teh life insurance? We had big plans for that at Minnie. ;) :rotfl: Good to see you Howard! Woo hoo for 58 days!!!

Well as usual you all are very busy...don't know how some of you are able to give props to everyone sooooooo-keep up the good work everyone, go Chad for kicking the cancer in the butt, those of you struggling-remember "one day at a time". Live today because we aren't promised tomorrow.:thumbsup2

Me..after my LR Monday I got sick..headache, throwups, but my DD had been sick for 3 days so I'm sure it was something she had. Can't believe I felt good doing my LR only to feel like crap later. Got up Tuesday-moving a little slow, but did my fat blasting yoga-felt okay. Wednesday did a 3 miler good pace and today I wasn't feeling it , but kept on track with Hal Higdon and did 6 miles (on the TM) at a 9:20 pace.

Hope everyone starts feeling better-much talk on here about sore throats, colds, etc...spring is here and I think as we get outside we will all feel better-I know I will. :laundy: That's me getting my housework done and getting outside.

Scott: Have you tried the Clif gels? They had some during the 2007 WDW marathon (or half, I don't remember which!) that were apple pie flavored. They were at an aid station that was out in the sun and by the time I got to them they were rather warm. But how else are you supposed to eat apple pie except warm?! ...oh yeah with ice cream *goes off in search* Though I wouldn't have thought that would be my fav flavor it was pretty darn good! Nice run! :thumbsup2

Shan: Take it easy on that leg so you can enjoy the World. Though come to think of it getting to use the wheelchair entrances wouldn't be so bad!:rolleyes1

Howard: :wave2: Wow you've got quite the full plate there! I'm up with Carrie a 9:52 pace over 3.1 miles aint sounding too shabby! :woohoo: for school!

:surfweb:

I had my 4 mile jog with Winston-the-dumb-dog this morning. Run-wise it was okay, but it's been about 3 weeks since I've run with him so that was quite an adjustment! I'm used to running with my well mannered dog at home (who also can keep up!). Winston, on the other hand, dragged me the first mile or so and then I drug(dragged?) him the last 2 1/2 miles (literally!). He's a choc lab/spaniel mix and he's nearly a year old now, but he's dumb as bricks! Beautiful dog though from a distance.

Brief work break before yet another Australia conference call...........

Claire I can't imagine running with my dog Buddy unless I was trying some bizarre speed work intervals. He would run me full tilt (chasing a squirrel) and then come to a complete stop to sniff/pee. Must be a lab thing!

Shan Enjoy your trip to the world and heal your leg. I know the feeling, though, about wanting to run (NEVER thought I would hear myself say that!). I've laid off for a few days and now I really am itching to go out on Saturday, but maybe should rest longer.

Stacie I hear you on the shin thing. That's why I'm taking a short breather from running to rest, ice. (If the dog would leave the ice bags alone and stop licking them/trying to chew them then maybe my icing would actually work)

Anyway....back to it!

Maura

GOOD AFTERNOON TEAM

Will be going out for a run this afternoon in my new WISH VISOR!!!! YEAH!!!. I will let you guys know how it goes. I have a feeling i will end up running extra hard though. I have a job interview tomorrow and I REALLY don't know what to do.

I want to go :offtopic: for a second if you guys will let me. You guys always have such good advice and I really need some. Any of you who were around a year a go know how excited I was to fulfill a life long dream and get my Engineering degree and do it well!! I have been working ever since for a construction company rather than go to a design/engineering firm. I have not really liked my job, frankly it's kind of boring, but if i stay there they are going to send me out to the field to build something, which sounds really cool but it means a LOT of hours. I am beginning to think that maybe I should go to an Engineering firm (hence the interview tomorrow) because I REALLY want to do what I went to school for. I know it sounds like any easy decision, but I dont' want to be doing the "grass is greener" thing. And this construction company has been REALLY good to me, financially and with time off.

OK I am truly sorry for rambling completely off topic but I am new to this whole career thing and I am really worried about making a mistake :confused3

Check back in later after my run.
