Wk of Mar 30 - WISH Walking/Running Club

I just have to share with you guys...
Chad is officially cured of cancer!
We just got back from his last doc. appt.
He had his last routine CT scan - blech!
5 years of follow-up, finished!
YAY!!! :yay:

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :dance3: :yay: :cheer2:  :yay: :cheer2: That is awesome to hear!!!! Now you and Chad have to find a way to celebrate!!! ;) ;) ;)

Judy--I am so sorry that you are sick! Hoping you are feeling better soon! :wizard:

Starkiss--:welcome: I am VERY familiar with Butler, PA. My DH (Stephen, he posts here skfulkers) and I have family in the Butler/Cranberry/Mars/Zelie area--we go up there 3 or 4 times a year. In fact, Stephen graduated from Geneva College in Beaver, PA. Sing it with me "it's a small world after all, a small, small world". :) Oh, and you might notice, we are both HUGE Steeler fans!

Bill and Lynnda--What an awesome cake!!! Lynnda, you really need to think about starting a business, you have an amazing talent.

Christa--Stephen showed me your race report on the tri thread. Great job!! And I'm still :rotfl2: :rotfl2: about you running the 5K in your biking helmet. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I immediately thought of lyrics from Green Day, which I won't share here as they aren't very nice. (But if we have any Green Day fans, it's from "Jesus Of Suburbia")

Angie--You are my hero for getting up at 4:00 to get to the gym. Although once the baby is born and I go back to work, I think I'm going to have get my runs in at either 5:00 in the morning or 11:00 at night. Neither one looks appealing to me!

Lily--I saw the maternity running skirts, I've graduated into Stephen's running clothes as mine don't fit any more. Well, I would graduate into his clothes if I actually got some workouts in. :) Today is sunny and for the first time in about 2 weeks, no rain or snow forecasted, so Hines and I will hopefully get some miles in tonight. Of course it's supposed to rain tomorrow and Friday and Saturday and Sunday.

Baby News--I am feeling real kicks and movement now! It's funny because I'm starting to figure out his schedule, he moves a lot around 9:20am until about 11:00am, 2:00pm-4:00pm and then he kicks a lot between 5:30pm and 7:00pm. I never feel anything after 7:00 or 7:30. Hopefully he has his days and nights figured out and plans on keeping it that way! Stephen still hasn't felt him kick, every time the baby is kicking and Stephen comes over to feel, he stops and after a few minutes when Stephen goes back to doing whatever he was doing, the baby kicks again! :lmao: He's a brat! ;)

Great job on the training everyone, I check on you guys every day and I'm extremely proud of you all!

We need to work on our race attire for the upcoming weekend...I'm thinking I could find a red shirt with white polka dots for the 5k and then maybe a Daisy Duckish print for the 15k... :rotfl:

What happened to the kilt? :confused3 :rotfl:

Hi folks!

First of all, Kristi that is fabulous news!!!!!! I'm so happy for you and Chad.

Krista - Sounds like things are going well for you and that you may have one active boy on your hands. Pretty exciting!

Scott - You crack me up! I have some cola Shot Bloks I can munch on at the movie. Would it be too much to wear my Goofy shirt and medals?:rotfl:

Staci - Those 4 weeks are going to fly by! Glad you are getting so excited about the trip.

Lily - How are you doing? Did you get the all clear to go back to work? Great walk with your pup and then on your own!

So I paid for the 6 miles yesterday because my throat was killing me last night and this morning. Then my coworker made me some Asian cough syrup tea this morning and it miraculously feels better. So much better that I went out and ran 3 miles over lunch and I finished in 29:30 for a 9:49/mi pace!!!! This was my fastest training run EVER, and this after my crazy hill run yesterday. Apparently hills really work for me...?? I may just be able to go sub 30:00 at one of my upcoming 5Ks soon - either the Police 5K in town here on the 27th or at the Go Red for Women.

Thanks guys! :goodvibes
For those that didn't know, Chad had the same cancer as Lance Armstrong.
If I try to type the kind he had here, it gets bleeped out.
So, it was very curable. But cancer is still cancer.
He is just thrilled he doesn't have to drink all that contrast stuff for the CT scans anymore! :rotfl:
He is also getting a big kick out of the CD with his xrays and scans on it.
Last night he was looking at his liver, kidneys, spine, etc. Now he can look at it for always since he kept the CD! :lmao:

I have been having wicked allergy attacks among other issues and training is very sporadic at best. I was hoping to do a LR today, but got sidelined with a doc. appt. for myself. I plan on it tomorrow and am just hoping for the best for my half on Sunday. I am registered as a walker and plan on walking the entire course. I will finish, just not in the time I would have liked to. But considering how I have been feeling lately, I will take it!

Krista
- I love hearing stories about the baby, keep 'em coming!

Cecilia: I hope you're feeling better today. Take care of yourself.

Carrie: Posture Patrol--too funny! No, I didn't swear at you--or even at the thought of you. Given how having good posture hurts, though, maybe I should have! ;) Oh well, working that core is good for me, right? And yes, I'm paying attention to my posture as we speak. I won't say what it was a couple of minutes ago. :rolleyes1 Remember, I'm watching you, too!

Bill: Lynnda's cake is incredible. Seems like such a shame to eat a cake that beeyoootiful. Wait a minute, not it doesn't. It's cake. Did you save a piece for me?

Angie: That's a LOT of miles--and miles you should be proud of. I'm sorry to hear about your back, though. Btw, is this week any crazier than your normal crazy weeks? ;) You're posting great times regularly, so that almost makes up for getting up at the hour I hope never to see outside the marathon weekend. Another thing I hope not to see? A room full of disappointed Body Pump athletes, just waiting for their morning endorphins to kick in & kick some absent instructor's booty! :scared1:

Craig: Here's hoping your semester flies by; this semester is particularly hard, I think, because of the way spring & Easter break fell so closely together (assuming your institution observes both).

Dave: Pandas are certainly cute, but innocent? There's something shifty about their eyes, especially on April 1st. I like 'em, but wouldn't trust a Panda farther than I can throw one. P.S. I hadn't realized it was 12 pounds in a month. WTG!!!

Tracy: Have a great time at WDW! Maybe I'll see you there, even if I don't know it. Great 3 miler, too! :thumbsup2

CarolA: Hey, I say you toughed it out on the TM and Parker would be proud. 4 miles is no joke.

NEBill: That's just the perfect argument, the one I needed to make. Vic, are you listening? Bill, I need you as part of my pit crew!

Lily: What a great walk--Kirby should be proud. (You, too!) I'm glad you're happy to get back to work. It won't cut into your DIS time, will it?

Leana: DOOD stands for Dear One of Debra. DH has his own special personality, and DH just wasn't cutting it. I think I need to add that explanation in my siggie, so thanks for asking. Geez, that's a great time with hills! I would have never guessed you had your wisdom teeth out & got sick from that pace. And then to do your next run in a 9:49! What was in that cough syrup???? :thumbsup2

Morgan: It's been years since I bowled, so that sounds like a fun change of pace from running. Good for you! I think it's great that you went running with a friend, not just because it's running with a friend but because you were able to see your progress as well. I hope you're feeling better about all that you're doing.

AlohaJeff: Ah yes, the forced-taper-due-to-illness method of training. I hear it's highly effective, if not recommended for setting PRs. I hope it doesn't affect your 10K. And I have to admire your, um, networking skills. Hopefully it will pay off with some hefty discounts.

Kristi: OMG! That's wonderful news. I know how important that 5 year mark is. Blech, that Contrast stuff--I'm sure Chad is ecstatic not to have to drink that. Why bother to make a coconut flavor? You and Chad must be floating on air! :cloud9: (I do hope you're feeling better for your half, though.)

Stacie: Your Minnie trip is going to be fantastic. You're making your own swag, you're earning your bling, and there's an anniversary to be celebrated at that time. Of course, that last bit makes me wonder what your pre-race strategy will be with regards to ;) :) ::yes:: (yeah, you know what I'm insinuating). You'll want to be careful not to become too relaxed before the event as it might take your edge off, you know. :cool1:

Scott: My friend, it is YOU who is witty. I'm still laughing at SWISHers & SandWISHers. And if I ran a movie theater & showed Spirit, my concession stand would sell Gu. You're a brilliant marketer! I'm gonna ride ToT twice, once for you!

Krista: You and Stephen, Steelers fans? Really? I wouldn't have guessed. :lmao: Where are you two registered for baby things. I can think of a couple of things the baby will absolutely NEED, especially since I think he's got a future career as a placekicker. (I would have said punter, but that would have been open to misinterpretation. :rolleyes1 Panda!)

As for me: Another day, another run. It was a bit chilly & windy early this morning, so DOOD & I went to the gym. Especially because DOOD decided to push his LR up this weekend to day. His schedule? A 20 miler. On a TM. So he can work on his speed. And I was working on my meastly 4 miles. Sometimes I just hate him. ;) :lmao:

His run went fine, but now on to the important stuff. My run. :rotfl2: it's shorter so I have to work harder to savor it, right? So I compensate by running much slower than he does. My run went really well, except for that last part where I get off the TM & look for the spray bottle. I wasn't paying much attention, I guess, because I end up standing in the path of a long-legged runner on another TM just as he decides to "float" off the belt. A swift kick in my face was narrowly averted, although I probably deserved it. What will I do next--stop in the middle of a race course to tie my shoes?

I then occupied the rest of my gym time with various cardio machines while wondering if I would ever have it in me to run 20 miles straight on a TM.

YAY!!! :yay:

:yay: :yay: :woohoo: WAY TO GO CHAD :yay: :yay: :yay: :woohoo:

I’ve been terrible at keeping up with the threads lately! Hope everyone’s doing well!

Bill and Lynnda – That cake looks FABULOUS!

Leana – 6 miles only a few days after having your wisdom teeth out? I’m impressed! Nice job on your 3-miler, too!

WWDave – 12 pounds? WTG! That’s awesome!

Kristi – I had no idea about Chad – What fantastic news!! I’m so happy for y’all!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Stacie – The matching shirts sound fun!

Krista – Isn’t it fun feeling the baby kicking? Sean did the same thing to my DH – he NEVER wanted to kick for him. I thought it was funny, but DH didn’t find it nearly as amusing. How are you feeling these days? I can’t believe you’re already halfway through your pregnancy!

Training has still been non-existent for me. The last time I got out to run/walk was on March 11! :scared1:

DH and I were planning on doing a 5K on April 13, but it's not looking good. I guess we could go and just walk it - we'd have the stroller with us, so we'd be going slower than usual anyway - but I'm not sure about it. I think I'd feel like an imposter trying to do a 5K without any training. :sad2:

First of all, and most importantly, CONGRATS Chad and Kristi!! GREAT NEWS!!!!

Debra: I think you asked a while back and I rudely never responded  about my training plan for the Minnie as it was similar to something Dood was doing. I have a frankenstein of a plan....a mix between Bingham's Half Marathon for Runners and Runner's World Smart Coach Speed training. Roughly I do one easy run per week (today it was a 50 minute run), One day of speed work (hills, tempo or speed work) and one Long Run (working up to a few back to back 10 milers); in addition I try to get 2 additional days of cardio preferably biking (either spin or bike trainer) plus a LOT of pilates (I try to take 3 classes per week at minimum that I'm not teaching). Now aren't you glad you asked *snooze*...probably boring LOL! ALSO..How does the Gu taste? I'm going to try it out...I've been using Power Gels but they haven't always settled as well during the bigger races.

Angie: Take care of that back girl! You really are training so well!!!! Just don't over-do it....I expect to see you FLYING at the Minnie in 4 weeks! YAY...love seeing that....4 Weeks!

CarolA: 4 Miles...ok ONE mile.... on the treadmill is torture for me. I feel your pain!!!!

Stacie: CANNOT wait to see your shirts for this trip. I loved the ones you did last time!!!!! :goodvibes And can I say...your training has come along so well Stace...I'm so proud of you!!!

Krista:  Baby movements....*sigh*....it's such an exciting time. *sigh* babies.....(as I listen to my two girls bickering and fighting and complaining).

Leana: GREAT RUN!!!!! :thumbsup2 Sounds like you're on the road to recovery! Just get some rest tonight :).

Scott: I'm so proud of you with the Pilates  . Not that I'm the Pilates Ambassador of Goodwill or anything...although one might thinks so on here ;). But honestly....it's such a great thing you're doing not only for your running but more importantly to help strengthen and protect your back from re-injury. BTW...I LOVE the idea of the matching Mini-Dot print outfits! :rotfl:

As for me....Yesterday was a busy workout day. Due to covering some classes I taught FOUR Pilates classes. One of them was spin-lates so at least I got my cardio in. I ended up demonstrating WAY too much so today I feel like I did almost 4 hours of Pilates. Surprise suprise! Go Core!

Today I had my scheduled "easy" run. As if there's such a beast. :rolleyes1 Anyway...I decided to run for a specific time period today so I wouldn't be a slave to the pace. I also decided that since we're experiencing high winds and brisk cold it would difficult; therefore I opted to make it MORE difficult by doing a hilly trail run. That was smart  . Anyhoo....have you ever felt like you were running slow and actually you were running fast? OK...so THAT didn't happen. I felt like I was running slow...but in fact I was running EVEN slower than I thought. *shrug* Oh well...I put the steps in, enjoyed the scenery on the trail, and at least I can say I'm DONE with it ;). I was thinking of doing pilates; but then someone reminded me that I did a LOT of pilates yesterday so a rest from it would probably be ok. So rest I will.

Happy trails WiSHers (or Swishers or Sandwishers) .

No running for me today. I am still fighting this cold. DD's fever finally dropped below 103 around 2am this morning so I was finally able to get some sleep. I hope to run tomorrow.

DH and I got our final instructions for the Country Music Half Marathon. I moved up over 10 corrals from last year! Wow. Funny thing is that they put me in the corral before DH. Why with the same predicted finish would we be in different corrals?!

Stephen still hasn't felt him kick, every time the baby is kicking and Stephen comes over to feel, he stops and after a few minutes when Stephen goes back to doing whatever he was doing, the baby kicks again!

Krista - My babies used to snuggle into their dads hand when he would try to feel them kick. Weird thing was, they didn't do that when anyone else including me put their hand on my belly. How do they know? Enjoy the baby kicks now cause toward the end they won't be much fun!

Kristi & Chad - Congratulations! I know that must feel fantastic. :goodvibes

Cecilia

Kristi - Great news. I'm so happy for you and Chad!

Leanna
- glad you're feeling better.

Cecilia and Judy - hope you get better soon.:grouphug:

Starkiss - Welcome to the group!

Bill - The cake Lynnda made looks awesome!:thumbsup2 So when's her cake shop opening? ;)

Lily - did you ge the okay from the Dr.? Hope so!

Krista - cool news about the baby. I hope he keeps his days and nights straight (for your sake), too. :)

Claire - Ten miles is only short when it's mostly downhill! (Trust me - I would never think 10 miles is really short) ;)

CarolA - Are you a Lady Vols fan? I am. Have been since the 80's. Got to meet Pat Summit when the final four was in Philly. Got a pic with her, too.

I won't be posting or checking in till next week. Leaving in the morning for Craig's hometown of Denver, CO.

Happy training!

Terri

I bleed Tennesees Orange and the Lady Vols are my favorite. I remember when I was in college they had to sell Krispy Kreme Donuts to raise money for uniforms. Those days are LONG gone LOL!

I went for a cross training walk today. It's beautiful here, but my car is covered in yellow dust. The amount of pollen in Atlanta is AMAZING! I have never seen anything like it. The Marta station is covered in "yellow" dust right now.

The boyfriend sent me this today that he found on another running site.
Lessons Around Every Corner
I feel that I grew mentally in this race. While some will certainly say I was arrogant and stupid for running injured, those that truly know me, like my wife, knew there was no stopping me - and even though I felt biting pain with each step, I endured that pain, swallowed it, and kept on moving to get where I had to go.

My wife told me the Saturday before the race:

“You’re full of sh#*, you won’t quit. “, “You’ll finish.”

…and she was right. Deep in the back of my mind, none of that early rationalizing, about stopping when I felt the pain, was ever really an option.

I will get to the finish line if I have to crawl.

It’s just who I am.

I swear that's him...... I knew that unless he was crawling he was going to finsh the ING and get a decent time. I don't claim to understand! (Cecilia, he is now planning the Country Music for next year)

He is trying to get me to sign up for the Silver Commet half. Anyone here done that one?

Hey all.

I went to the Dr's this morning, and although the throat is still sore, it's not as bad as yesterday. I guess my 6 miler out in the sun yesterday was the best prescription. LOL.

The doc swabbed me for a Strep culture. I'm waiting to hear back on the results. She said if I'm feeling better, then no antibiotics for now. Should the test come back positive, then I'll be getting some meds.

Thanks for all the pixie dust everyone, and I'm sending my own out to those who are still suffering being sick :wizard: .

For the LOSTIES gang: The local paper had a very small quote from a LOST producer, Carlton Cuse, who said "We will know who was in the casket, by the end of the year." Ooooh, suspense at it's finest. :woohoo:

Amy : I use either Powerbar gels, or Cliff Shots gels & shot blocks. Flavors are pretty good. I also carry Fruit leather strips, available at COSTCO, that we buy for the Princesses.

Kristi and Chad

Wonderful news, congratulations. May you have at least 50 more years of Halloween parties in your "Pirate and Wench" outfits. I must admit, for the life of me I cannot visualize Chad wiggling into the wench outfit, but he does look nice it it pirate: .

Craig

Kristi and Chad - A Big Congratulations!   Having dealth with cancer with extended family, and with friends through the years; I know how important that '5 year' date is.

He is trying to get me to sign up for the Silver Commet half. Anyone here done that one?

I keep saying I am going to run that one. I know lots of people that have PR'd on that course. Its very flat and slightly downhill most of the way. Its out in the woods with almost nothing to look at and little fan support though. But everyone I know that has run it has said it was a good fast race. Unfortunately, it is the same weekend as MCM so it will have to wait until 2009 for me. I know that a couple DIS members have run it.

I like to run hard and PR at that type of race and then lay back and have fun at races like Disney and Country Music. If I were you, I would agree to the half at Country Music - its a fun race and downtown Nashville makes it a great weekend getaway. I love that they have the race on Saturday so you can go out dancing on Saturday night.

Cecilia
