Wk of June 17--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good morning team! We've almost made it to the weekend!!! :goodvibes I had a great workout at the gym last night. I almost didn't go, but at the last second, I decided to stop and I'm so glad that I did. I did the elliptical (30 min, 2.85 miles) instead of my usual stationary bike, I was wearing my booty shorts last night and didn't feel like putting on a show. ;) After the elliptical I lifted, ended up doing 5 sets of 10 at 30 lbs on the rowing machine and then 3 sets of 10 at 40 lbs on the leg curl and 3 sets of 10 at 30 lbs on leg extension. I was sore after that!! The leg press machine was out of order, so I had to skip on that. I have another 3 miles tonight, I may have to switch back to the running shoes I was wearing before the ones I have now. I'm pretty sure they have less miles on them then my current ones, so that might be better on my legs until I get to the running store this weekend.

Tiffany--I am so glad that is Rick is feeling better and things are settling down for you guys. Congrats on getting to Curves. Thanks for asking about Shari, she is doing better, the headaches are caused by a pinched optical nerve and the high blood pressure was caused by minor blockage in her arteries.

Shan--I wear glasses, but I can't wear them when I run because they bounce and drive me crazy. Thankfully my eyes aren't bad so not wearing prescription glasses 24/7 is not a big deal. I do wear running sunglasses though, they are fog proof and are pretty fitted so they don't bounce around. They also have 4 different lenses so I can change them for whatever I need--dark for full sun, light brown/pink for twilight, yellow for snow or for biking, and clear for protection. I think they were around $100-$120, but totally worth it.

Kristi--I Tivo'd American Inventor last night, I'll watch it tonight. So cool that they are doing a special segment on Molly. :goodvibes

Have a great day everyone!!

Oh, I almost forgot, I weighed myself this morning and I lost 3 lbs.

Krista - great job on teh work out! Thanks for the update on Shari. ANy luck on a lifestyle change for her?

Kim - her idea was a sneaker that plays music. She calls it "SneakyBeats." The show is up on abc.com and she is about 13 mins. in. Also, the local ABC affiliate contacted my sister and they are going to do a story on Molly.
:goodvibes
Great idea. I just tried to watch it but it says only views in the United States can view full episodes.....uuggghhh. That's great about them doing a story on her.

Kim

Kristi - I Tivo'd American Inventor last night & as soon as I got home from Bunco at 11:30pm I fast forwarded to find Molly. She is adorable! She did GREAT, especially for a 9 yr old. I felt so bad for her when she didn't get the 3 votes, I cried right along with her. Heck, just going out there by herself is fantastic & took alot of courage. Don't think I could have done that. I look forward to seeing what else Molly comes up with. It was also very cool seeing you, Chad, Zack, & your Mom.

I'll be back later to catch up with everyone.

Morning team!

Kristi-It's funny I went to see my bf's mother last night to ask her something and she was watching American Inventor I caught only up Molly, not even realizing who she was. I thought if she'd had a sneaker she would have gotten all the votes. I thought George Forman was so sweet with her. She did better then some of the people before her and at such a young age!!!

All this talk about sunglasses is perfect because I was running the other day right with the sun in my eyes and was wondering to myself if I should be wearing glasses. Guess I'll have to go get a new pair as I don't think my huge movie star shades will cut it.

So yesterday I got some bummer news right before my run, it seems like this week was just a bad week for me. So I got out there and didn't feel it and came home. I ended up doing 1.4 miles in a little over 12 minutes. I'm still trying to decide if I should do weights or stadiums for xt tonight. I think it depends on what the weather is like.

Steve- Sending lots of PD that your ankle heals soon. :wizard: Next time, wait for the elevator. ;)

Krista- Congratulations on losing the 3 pounds! :cheer2: Of course, they somehow made their way down to Texas and attached themselves to my body, but I will try not to hold that against you. :lmao:

Mel- Take it slow and easy as you continue to recover. :wizard: that you will be ready for the CDC.

Kristi- How is Chad's job going? Are you adjusting to his new hours?

Kim- You are doing a great job with your training. Keep up the good work.

Carrie- I definitely think painting counts as cross-training. How's the pool running working out?

As for me, still no training to report. I had a cocktail reception to attend last night and ended up spending 3 and 1/2 hours on my feet in uncomfortable high heels. :sad2: The pool guy came yesterday and shocked the pool, added lots of chemicals, and then broke off a valve on our filter pump so we have a pool full of chemical soup in our back yard until the repair guy comes out to fix the filter pump. He is supposed to come today. A pool workout is probably not in my future tonight. I may head to the fitness center for some weight training instead.

Only one more day until Friday!

Krista - great job on teh work out! Thanks for the update on Shari. ANy luck on a lifestyle change for her?

Not that I've seen. Of course she lives about an hour away and I don't really see her that often, maybe a couple of times a month, but I haven't heard her say anything about exercising or notice any change in her eating habits. But to be fair, I'm not the picture of healthy eating either when my whole family is together and there is junk food everywhere. :)

Good morning everyone.

It's been a WTO week.

Got two runs in so far. However, no weight training due to weather. Playing with iron bars, and lightning aren't conducive to good health.

Monday, 2.25 miles on the TM. Wore my Asics 2120s with Sorbothane arch support insoles. Very comfortable and no heel pain, before or after.

Last night was 2.5 miles on the TM. Wore my Asics Nimbus VIIIs. The foot reminded me it's still injured as there was a little pain after I finished. However, not enough to whine about.

So, my next experiment will be the Nimbus' with the insoles.

Sure glad this is a free sport. :rolleyes1 :lmao:

Sorry I couldn't get caugtht up with everyone.

Y'all have a great day. :)

I have been so busy this week that I hardly had a chance to catch up on everyones posts. The talk about sunglasses and hats made me think I should really be wearing my sunglasses when I go for my run. I tried a baseball hat but it made my head too hot and then I had sweat running in my eyes. I will have to try my sunglasses - hopefully they won't bounce up and down!!

I have been good this week and actually got out there for 3 miles on Sunday, nothing on Monday, 2 miles Tuesday, 2 miles Wednesday and 2.5 miles today. I think I might take it easy tomorrow and ride my bike because I want to do 3.5 miles on Saturday. My sister bought a house and its only 3.5 miles from my house and she has a pool so I think I will jog/walk over there and then go in the pool!!

I went to the running store yesterday to sign up for a 5k on June 30 so I am all set for my 2nd ever 5k - not sure if I will be able to do a better time since my 1st 5k was last year before I quit running for a year and I just got started back running. When I was at the store I ended up getting a new pair of shoes - my first time ever getting fitted - I am a little over pronate and I broke my left foot in 2001 so it will always be my bad foot. I ended up getting Asics Kayano 13. Tried them this morning and they seem better than my old shoes.

Cam & Howard - I think you have a 5k today - good luck!!

Hopefully next time I will be able to check in more frequently and will be able to reply to more.

Good morning WISH Team.

I had a teriffic walk this morning. It was about 60/65 degrees and headed for 85 and humid so I went at 7 am to beat the heat a little. I had decided I needed to push the pace a bit since I have the Senior Games in 8 days.

I did my favorite 4 mile route on the hills, total time 48:08, with the last mile up the longest hill in 11:34. I felt good about the walk even though it was 4 sec slower than my PR for that route. It was a lot hotter and much more humid that it was a month ago when I set that PR.

I had some good news at work yesterday, they changed the way commission is figured. Before we had to hit 125% of goal to make good commissions, now we just have to hit 110% of goal to get the best commission rate.

I hope eveyone who has aches and pains are doing better today.

Have a great day y'all.

Your "YARC" Joke

A sales rep, a clerk and their manager went to lunch together. On the way one of them kicked a bottle and a Genie popped out and said, "I can grant everyone of you a wish".

The sales rep said, "I want to be sitting on a beach in the Bahamas, with a beautiful woman serving me a tall ice cold beer" Poof he was gone.

The clerk said, "Ok I want to be sitting on a beach in Hawaii, with a cabana boy serving me a tall ice cold frozen margrita". Poof she was gone.

The manager said, "I want them both back at work as soon as lunch is over".

The moral: Always let the boss go first.

I've come to a stopping point! :headache:

Completed week 11 of 13 this morning after running 4 miles. My pace picked up a little - it was 12:16, better but still not as fast as I was going before.

Left foot really hurt this time. It has been a week now with this ache. It runs the outside of my entire foot. DH really thinks I need to lay off it next week. I'm so bummed. I know he is right, though.

So I need some advice from you experts - how long can I lay off before I lose what I've built up? Is taking off a week or two gonna throw me back to square one?

We're going to Vegas in a few weeks and I'm so freaked now I'm gonna gain weight these next couple weeks. I have to wear a nice dress a couple nights. :sad2:

Shan - SOrry about your foot! :wizard: The penguin says to take 3 full days off, and try again. SO, that would only be until Monday. Then, take 3 more if it hurts still. So, you could try again next Fri adn see a doc if it's still bad. However, you should not lose anything in less than 2 weeks, though. Good luck!

WWDave - :rotfl:

Sorry I haven't posted my workouts this week, but my head and heart were not in it. We had to put our beloved 6 1/2 yr old loveable pound puppy, Rascal, to sleep on Tuesday. She had gotten sick over the weekend and I took her to the vet on Mon. After x-rays and blood work, was told that she not only had congestive heart failure, mild kidney failure but also a raging infection somewhere. She was given and antibiotic and a medication for her heart. I spent almost all of Mon night awake with her. By Tues morning she was worse. As WWDave and I were on our way home from the Dermatologist I got a frantic call from my daughter saying Rascal couldn't get up and her breathing was so bad it woke her up. WWDave and I had to carry her into the car, and a vet tech who saw her the day before helped carry her inside. The vet tech and vet could not believe how bad she got so quickly, with very little hope for her to get better. While she was being put to sleep she started passing lots of bright red blood. Rascal is now playing in doggy paradise, giving her famous kisses.
We are adopting 2 cute, bright, and active kittens from our local humane society. We will be picking them up on Sunday, they are being "fixed" today and I will be working the next 3 nights.
Sorry for the above, but love and hug your kiddos both human and animal.

I so far have a total of 16 miles to report for the week. I don't know if I'll end up here or have more to add.

Training has been going slow for me this week. I ended up skipping my 6 mile LR this weekend to give my hip time to heal. Monday night went to the gym & did the bike then weight machines. Tuesday was a slow 2.5mile walk with friends. Yesterday was a rest day. Tonight will be another slow walk with friends. The hip seems to be healing very slowly. Sometimes it feels fine & then other times it is back to hurting a bit.:confused3 I have been still stretching a few times a day. I am hoping it is feeling good enough this weekend for me to get in my LR.

SWDave – Glad you made it home in time to go out to dinner after missing your connecting flight. I really enjoyed all your photos of Rio. Thank you for sharing your trip with us. I went back & looked at the photos closer & saw where there is the path next to the cobblestones. Don’t know how I missed it the first time. :confused3
Renee – Glad to hear your Dad is ok.
Jackie – Congratulations on running 10 miles!
Howard – Great job on your 5k over the weekend. I was going to yell at you for running after donating blood, but I see that has already been done.;) Good luck on your 5k tonight.
Cam – I am sorry your were disappointed with your 5k last weekend, but I think you did GREAT! :thumbsup2 With how busy you have been it is a huge accomplishment just squeezing in the time to do the race. Good luck on your 5k tonight. Hope you were able to stretch your hip enough to make it feel better.
Mel – The running efficiency/form clinic sounds really cool. I am going to have to keep my eye out for one of them around here. Glad to hear your foot is feeling better & that the new shoes seem to good.
Diane – Glad you had a great 14 miler. Sorry the 4 miler was tough.
Angie – Hope the blisters are doing better.
FLBill – Hope the calf & back are feeling better.
Dana – Hope you are recovering from missing your ice bath. Congratulations to Michael on his progress.
Lily – Hope you are enjoying your week as a bachelorette. ;) Oh, and thanks for adding Craig’s Blister Remedies to the sticky.
Laura – Hope the start of your official training this week is going well. Good luck in finding the right shoe for you.
Craig – Thanks for posting your blister techniques. I had printed it the last time you posted it but then couldn’t find where I had put it. :confused3 I’ll make sure to put it in a safe place this time.
Leana – Congratulations on your race! Glad you enjoyed the Bikini Boot Camp.
Judy – I wish you didn’t have to have the surgery, but since you do, I’m glad you don’t have to wait long to get it over with. Definitely keep it elevated. Very cool that Charlie met with the Disney Guys.
Megan – Sorry you’ve had a couple of not so good runs, but I like that you had a positive & that your XT felt great. Hope the ankle/calf are continuing to feel better.
Kevin – Hope your finals went well & you are now enjoying your trip.
Carrie – Glad to hear the nerve pain seems to be gone for good.
TnTsParty – Hope the stretches are starting to work on the calves.
Shan – I wear sunglasses when I run. They usually only fog up on me at the end of my run when I stop to stretch. I’m sorry your foot has gotten worse. Is there any XT you can do while your foot heals? Maybe biking or if you have access to a pool, some pool running?
Jen – That was really nice of your DH & the other guys to be out there in the rain moving the tree. Glad to hear his knee is healing so well. Hope you had a fun trip with your mom.
Tiff – Glad to hear your DH is heading in the right direction. Good for you for getting 3 miles in. I’m sure your body really needed that stress relief.
Dona – Did you ever find that “diamond bracelet”?:lmao:
Meghan – Congratulations on the 3 miles in less then 40 minutes.
Stacey – Hope your back is feeling better.
TriMom – Ohhhh Nooo, for injuring yourself cooking & sleeping. Hope the injuries are feeling better. Hope you had a good time at Dairy Days.
Kim – Sorry you had your first stonker.
WWDave & Erica – I am so sorry for the loss of your dog.
WWDave – Congratulations on passing your contact lens test.:woohoo:
Terri – Have you hit the pool yet?:lmao:
Kristi – Hope Zack is feeling better. I forgot to ask you earlier, how did Molly like seeing herself on National TV? How did Zack like seeing himself on TV?
Krista – Have fun shopping for the new running shoes.:yay:
Nancy – Hope the shin is feeling better.
Cindy – Good job on you LR. Sorry it didn’t agree with you stomach.
Martha – Have fun on your search for a tag line.
Steve – Glad you had such a great run in Central Park. :wizard: for that sprained ankle.
Stephanie – 4 mile run & XT at Target all in the same day. You certainly had a busy work-out day. LOL
Heather – Doesn’t 3 ½ hours in heels count as XT…..ankle/balance training.;)
Vic – Hope your next experiment has positive results.:thumbsup2

Looks like there has been a lot of injuries lately. Lots of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for quick recoveries!

Erica--

Shan--I agree with Carrie, take 3 days off and see what happens. You will NOT lose your base in a week 1 or 2. If you are worried about losing aerobic fitness than I highly recommend cross training--it can be any form of cardio that doesn't put extra stress on whatever is hurting. From everything I have seen swimming, cycling, and doing the elliptical seem to the best, but if there is something you like better and it gets your heart pumping, then by all means do that instead or alternate activities. It seems like I'm actually in better shape when I'm hurt because I am cross training like crazy, trying to keep everything that I worked so hard to get in the first place! :wizard: for your foot!!

Karen -- It is so nice to see you here. And very impressive post! :thumbsup2 I'm sorry you are going through hip pain, too. It seems very common. I am part of the rookie running group on sparkpeople and it seems there are many people who suffer hip pain. The only advice I can offer is that my doctor told me it is very important to stretch the hamstring. I hope you get some relief soon.

I can't seem to keep up or catch up here, but I want you all to know how much I appreciate reading all the supportive posts here for all our teammates. What an amazing group! :grouphug:

Hey everyone! Just popping in to say I am still alive. I have skimmed through the post but not had the chance to really read them. I know I have missed many, but time is against me this week.:)

Erica - Lotts of :grouphug: :grouphug: for you and your family. I know you have had a hard week!

Shan - I also think you should take at least 3 days off. Ice and Rest. If it does not get any better, see a doc. Are you training for something...just asking b/c you said you were in week 11 of 13. If so, it is time to taper anyway...so you are good.:wizard:

Cam - there is a running group on Sparkpeople? I am a member. they put me on a team, but I did not like it much so I quit the team. But knowing there are other WISHers is exciting!

I have posted all my WO on my journal, so if anyone wants to know what I have been doing WO wise, you can look there...I just don't have time to repost them here....gotta go back to work. I have gotten 2 new clients this week....

Christa -- If you PM me your email address, I will send you an invite to the DIS sparkteam and the rookie running group sparkteam. Or you could go to my sparkpage (my user name is the same) and then follow the links to my sparkteams. Both of them are listed.
