Wk of July 22--WISH Walking/Running Club

Kim, we were up in Saskatchewan. I can't believe how the cities are booming, the house prices are ridiculous! I think everyone is moving back from Alberta.

Craig, oh my, great speed! I really don't know if I will be able to keep up with you at Disney. Must do more speedwork.

Angie, congrats on your first chip timed event. Sorry the end turned out so poorly. I hate it when they run out of food and drink at the finish. There is no excuse for that.

Dana, hugs to you!

Hi Heather!:wave2:

Stephanie, you, speedy you, intimidated by a running club?? You are such a great athlete, I can't imagine.

Sunny, how have you been? Have you had your treatment thingy yet? Like my medical lingo?

Are Cam and Howard on your Disney cruise? If not, it must be coming up soon.

Hi Guys.

I got in 2 mile walk on the treadmill this morning. I had planned to do a longer walk but after taking DD to catch the bus for Student Life camp my little kids and 15yo DS were up with DH getting ready for work, I was afraid everyone would be at each others throats if I was gone too long.

I feel like I need to make myself a cheat sheet to keep up with everyone. I'm beginning to recognize names as I read posts but don't yet put names with info about them.

Thanks for all the encouraging words from everyone about the sweepers.

Dona

Stephanie

I am having a ball. Of course, I was very apprehensive about going out "there" with all those fast people.

I found the runners by spending about 30 minutes prowling around the big running store here in Boulder. I looked at everything, especially the papers and postings they had about local races and running groups. I picked up the flyer for the Boulder Road Runners, and sent the president an e-mail. I explained to him that I was in town for 7 weeks and told him my age, ability, and interest. I especially talked to the paces I could run over certain distances. I asked him directly if there were any members of the club that would be running "my" pace on the Sunday morning runs. He replied quickly and assured me that the club has all types of runners, and that I would certainly find a group to run with on Sunday. I've done this the last 3 weekends, and each time I've run with a different group of people. They've all been kind and helpful, and those 2+ hours each Sunday morning (run, drink and talk after, drink and talk after after at a coffee shop) have been wonderful.

I was a bit afraid to show up, and it couldn't have turned out better. In fact, after Sunday's run, Mike, who I ran with last weekend, came up to me after and said, "you were up there with the big dogs today." To hear that from a new running buddy was wicked cool.

Do explore this option. Plus you are mighty quick, running fast long times. I think you'd find you were one of the fast guys.

Craig

Hey Guys, I'd like to introduce a new member, walker and Florida resident, Smiley Walker. She has come over from the walking site to join the coolest team around.

Like us she trains hard and then does the race events for the pure joy of it.

Please make this super lady, Mellody, welcome. We might even induct her into the "YARK". Mellody the "YARC" is the "You ain't right club". Some of us on here just have no sense at all, hence the title, "You ain't right".

Dave:hippie:

:goodvibes WELCOME SMILEY WALKER.....YOU'RE GONNA LOVE THIS SITE!!!!!

I water jogged for an hour today and plan to do 14 miles of walking tomorrow.

Does everyone have their room ressie's for the marathon?? I'm so excited!

Angie - Great job on your 5K!:thumbsup2 Sorry it didn't go quite as smoothly as you'd like. But you did it! You finished! And no one can take that away from you!

Judy - Hope you're feeling better soon.

Sunny - WTG on your run!

Stephanie - I'm going to be in Springdale for a couple of days to take care of some family business.

Gonna head to the gym now for some xt.

Terri

Angie - Sorry you had such a rough race. But congrats for sticking with it and finishing. The next one HAS to be better!

NEBill - No way would I let daughter #1 re-read before I got a shot at it!

Dana - You get nothing but congratulations for keeping on!

Sunny
- It's so wonderful to "hear" you sounding so upbeat! And I completely missed the towel reference, even though I love the Hitchhiker books.

Judy & Kristi - I couldn't imagine what all the HP hype was about, especially since I do NOT like fantasy. Then I read the first book...

Christa - Glad to know you're still out there!

Craig - Your pace is amazing! I totally understand what you're feeling - I'm having so much fun with my group on Saturday mornings. I start getting excited on Thursday looking forward to going out with them. They're definitely pushing me to do things I would never have done by myself.

Minnie - :wizard: coming your way

Sandy
- Isn't it great that this group is always here to motivate you? 5 miles is great! And you ARE a runner!

MSDave
- Everyone is allowed one week of slugdom. With the miles you've been running, I doubt you did permanent damage! Now get out there and run.

DH and I just ran 3 miles. It's a beautiful 80 degrees, low humidity - what a relief after weeks of 90+ degree weather. I apparently thought I was someone else  - went out really hard and did a 10:45 first mile (and that was with a couple of walk breaks), but then crashed and burned and only did 11:47 and 11:39 for the next two. Had to say hello to the family of deer that are always on the greenway.

Jackie

Just stopping by for a minute. My office is moving to a new location this week and my internet access is limited.

Did my 8 miles on Saturday in 1:45:00. Not too bad considering my leg is still bothering me. I went to the Dr. just to see if he could give me a magic pill to make it better. All he could tell me was what I already know, rest, ice, etc. He did wrap my thigh for me and that made it feel much better. I don't think I was wrapping it tight enough. He told me I should keep it wrapped basically all the time until it feels better.

Meghan - Had a company picnic this afternoon, so Annie set the DVR to record the race. Get home and find that ESPN2 moved it to ESPN at race time, so we have a nice golf tournament recorded instead! Had to watch Marco's crash on the internet...

Believe me, you didn't miss a thing. After the first lap, it was the most boring race I have ever seen. By the way, one of my racing "computer friends" got Marco's autograph this weekend for Annie. If I actually get it, I will send it to her. (I say that because I am still waiting for a picture of Helio that he took at the Texas race. ) I am excited that Michigan is next. The cars go almost as fast as at Indy there. I was planning to go, but decided not to as it is the weekend before the 1/2 marathon in Chicago. Tough decision, but I think a wise one.

Have a great week everybody!

Don't know if you just heard the scream - it was certainly loud enough for you to hear all the way from NC. Annie was busy reading and I told her she needed to read a post on the boards - she very reluctantly put down the comics and came over here and all of a sudden shrieked! I hope your friend actually sends it... but thanks anyway!

HELLO EVERYONE!!!

I don't know how I ever used to keep up with this thread!!:confused3

Anyway:

DANA I don't even know what to say but
MINNIE:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Coming to you!!!

AND PRAYERS FOR BOTH OF YOU TOO!!

Sorry guys but that is the best I can do to keep up right now.
Training update:

Did 5 miles outside without stopping for the first time since MINNIE :dance3: :yay: and the best part is I have been working my core like crazy and even after doing 5 on the treadmill Saturday today is the best my back has felt in months. More good news Bobby did 1.5 with me tonight. :cheer2:

Sad news is passport did not come through in time, no trip for me but that's ok. Does not seem like the end of the world compared to major problems that are all around us.

Also since everyone here is so active and deals with health issures on a regular basis I have to tell you about our DS pirate: 7 - Seth. We took him to a podiatrist when he was 3 because his ankles seemed to roll in really bad, so bad that after a day at a water park one time the inside of his knees were raw. At 3 he got orthotics and we were told that would be all he needed, maybe some physical therapy when he got older. Well we took him back, much later than we should have, to get new orthotics and now we are being told that he is going to have to have surgery on both of his ankles in the next 2 to 3 years.

I am terrified at the thought of my precious baby in all of that pain. Well, his dad took him to the last appt and I did not get a lot of detail so we are taking him on Wednesday to get cast for the orthotics and I will get more details then.

Thank you for letting me vent.

Hope everyone has a good evening.

So that's what that sound was!

John is on a mission to get Helio to sign something for me at Kentucky since he wasn't able to in Ohio. He promises to send me everything after that race, so we'll see. If that doesn't work out, I am hoping to catch Marco at Chicago because I have a pit pass for that race. I have to do my part to keep the new fans interested after all.:)

Just a quick note to say we're still alive up here

Susan has a new injury. Apparently I just keep breaking my traininig partners. I'm not sure what the exact thing is that went wrong but it's her knee. Her Dr though is sure she can finish training and complete the marathon. She went in early (I pushed and pushed and all but dragged her LOL) and has been told to walk till just before she thinks it will start bothering. Then switch to cycling around the park while I finish my miles and get in HER remaining miles. She is to strengthen her knee thru exercise and to go in that directions she now has 3 days a week of therapy for I'm not sure how long. But anyways, she has now gotten her summer injury out of the way :confused3 (2005: shin splints, 2006: plantar face thingy.)

But in good news she is trying to get to her gym more now thanks to this. And if all went well she was suppose to be doing her 1st Pilates or Yoga class tonight :yay:

In other news, I have finally joined a gym and who knew it would be due to the Mouse? But my Dr had been after me so I would build muscle in other areas (think she doesn't like my ice cream tummy) and cross traininig.

So last week I started and made it to the gym 3 days out of the week. I should have made it 4 times but DH tempted me away with Harry Potter LOL

To date I've done the circuit training and 2 classes and am loving it. I did 7 minutes on the ellipitical before I left today and will need to get a different shoe for the gym for sure. The arch is too high in the ones I took. They are leftover still ok shoes but I retired them from running early due to the high arch. But figured for lifting weights they'd be fine which they are but they are murder doing the ellipitcal.

I have to say to all but especially those that hold down full time jobs and even more so to those that have kids/family demands. I work 3 days a week, no kids, small house and get crabby with the time demands training takes on our life. A big cheer to everyone in getting in the miles and cross training while still keeping the rest moving along.

Happy training!!!!

Angie
Just read your race report and I think you did great. I MEAN IT. I admire people who don't give up. I have always been such a quitter my whole life -- till this past year when I finished my degreee and ran 2 - 1/2 marathons (one extreme to the other :confused3 ) But I had never understood why people would just keep going when things don't make sense or just pointless. Anyway, I truly am inspired by your finish!! Can't wait to see you at Disney.

Just back from CO on vacation (sorry Craig and Monte, I should have been more social!!) We were only in boulder for 2 half days. We stayed all week at YMCA of the rockies in Estes Park. We were able to bike trail ridge road in rocky mt. nat park. It was basically a 20 mile hill climb at 5 to 7% grade w/ 11 miles above tree line!! It was AWESOME!! Riding the 20 miles back down was a little scary though. I'm going to have to replace my break pads now! didn't do much running. We hiked and climbed a little.

Probably will try to get a run in tomorrow.

sunny - that was a fast paced run!! Great job.

Christa - Hi.

Colleen - I found this great song about alberta by trout fishing in america. I have been listening to it all week!

Morning all, well at least I can say I ran today, did 30 minutes this morning. More exciting was finsihing Harry Potter last night - can't believe how fab it was. She is genius.

Not much else to report: off to have blood test shortly. Went to a doc on Friday for something totally unrelated and he said 'so, about your thyroid' - ummmmmm, what about it? Apparently it looks enlarged, so I'm off to have a needle shoved in my arm soon - I don't think I have a problem, although it would explain why I keep feeling like someone has chloroformed me. Makes me laugh as i spent all last week writing about the blooming things - I always say I get what I write about, but that's a bit excessive!!!

Anyway, that's it for me today except to offer condolences to Dana, pixie dust for minnie and 'way to gos' for Sunny. Helen

Good Morning TEAM:

OK, I got out there and got my steps in yesterday. I ran 5 miles in 46:43 min/9:20 mpm pace. It was a nice easy run. Monday's supposed to be my speedwork day, but since I missed so many training days, I just wanted to get out there and get a run in.

Judy- Thanks for the push out the door.

Colleen- Welcome back from your family trip to Canada. How's your MCM training going?

Dona- Nice job on your TM walk.

Craig- Sounds like you're having a ball in Colorado. Congrats on checking in with the Boulder Road Runners, and joining them for your Sunday LRs. I would have been very intimidated to show up to join them for a group run. I'm glad you had such a good experience, and maybe it will encourage me to do the same if I'm in a new town for a while.

Welcome Smiley Walker/Mellody- Great to have you here.

Monte- Wow, you did an hour of aqua jogging. That's impressive. Good for you. I have my room ressies for the marathon, but I haven't signed up yet.

Terri- How'd your workout go?

Jackie- Thanks for the encouragement for me to get out for my run. Great job on your 3 miler. I love seeing the deer too.

Meghan- Good job on your 8 miler. I hope your leg starts feeling better soon.

Angie- Great job on your 5 miles without stopping. WTG!!! Too bad on the passport not working out. Sorry to hear about your DS7's ankle trouble. I agree with you that it's so much worse to see your children in pain. I hope the orthotics give him some relief.

Hello Diane- Good to hear from you again! Good job getting to the gym and starting some x-training. You've inspired me to give that a try today.

Hey Melissa- It's great to hear from you too.

Helen- Good for you for getting your 30 min in, and also for finishing HP.

OK, I wanted to give a shout out to all my friends here - Kristi, Judy, Carrie, Krista, and everyone else out there. Keep up your good work.

Sunny- I just wanted to send you a quick note to say Hi, and I hope you're doing well.

Well the cool has left the area, rather quickly, but I was able to get 4 miles in until the lightening saved me...or rather kept me ;) from going any farther. My pace was 10:59 so even though it was slower than I wanted, I figure if I don't kill myself during the summer, fall will be much better. Lynnda's first comment when I came in was she thought I was sunburned, kind of hard to do when it is dark outside.

Billy is doing better and I have been told that I am not the parent he likes when he is sick. Momma is much better. I will gladly give her that status but I don't think she is too happy with it. ;) She did finish the HP book so things will start returning to normal.

Helen - Glad you were able to get your run in. Good luck getting poked, hope everything turns out ok.

Melissa - Glad to hear that you had a good trip. That bike ride sounds like fun although I probably couldn't make it to the top right now.

Diane - Hope Susan is able to recover quickly. Glad to hear you are getting excercise in at a new gym.

AngieT - Glad to hear that the training was good and that Bobby was able to go for part of it. Sorry to hear about the passport but apparently everyone is having troubles with them right now.

Meghan - Good job on the 8 miles. Hope the office move goes smoothly, like it ever does though.

Jackie - Great job on getting out. Those times don't look that bad. Hopefully the deer treated you nicely and didn't try to tackle you.

Craig - You continue to impress me. At this rate you will be done with the marathon in enough time to get the drinks on ice for everyone else. Glad to hear that you are having a good time in CO. In a couple of weeks, you should be leading the pack during the runs.

Dona - Great job on getting a walk in yesterday. Hopefully the kids don't strangle each other. ;)

Colleen - Glad to hear you had a great trip. Congrats on getting your runs in while on vacation as well.

PungoAngie - Great job on the race. Even if the course wasn't marked right, glad you are willing to go back for another one. You are in great shape right now to make the time for Disney.

Christa - Glad to see you are still around. Hope things calm down for you a little.

Judy - I was wondering if you did that race, now I know. ;) I hope you continue to recover quickly but I will go out and buy more stock in Ace bandages just in case :lmao: Hope things calm down with your stepson as well.

WWDave - That is some good luck you are having. Hopefully it holds out for the lottery as well. Look forward to seeing you at TOT.

Minnie - Hope DF is able to get another job quickly. Take a couple of days to relax and then you can get a better perspective on what to do next.

Dana - I keep modifying my plan as well. I usually keep the original one to see how much it changes but it is definately a living document. Sorry to hear about your weekend. Glad to see you registered for the full and will be joining us.

Heather - Glad you are able to get swimming in. Lynnda is quite jealous right now as she would love to go everyday.

Jen - Great job working towards your goal. I hope you are able to make it without any problems.

Sunny - Great job on the training. I hope the stimulator continues to give positive results.

Kristi - I guess we will get the bail fund ready for your trips. ;) Just make sure you stop soon enough when running up towards the rail. I don't think we want to see the results on YouTube if you didn't. ;)

NEBill - I'm not sure you want to be confused with me, it might be detrimental to you in the future. I hope you are able to get the book soon. I was handed ours last night so I think I can start on it soon.

What happened to all the smilies. It is hard to just use 2-3 types. Hope everyone has a good day.

Bill

Hey all. Major WTO and LTO all in one bundle. I can barely keep my head above the water!!! Last night at 8:45 I got out and did a 2 mile run with Sadie. It was turning dark, so I had to be quick. And it was so humid that I was dripping when I was done. Today I plan to hit the gym at lunch for a quick workout. I really hate that my workout and runs are so short, but I guess that is better than nothing at all. I just worry that I am not meeting my training requirements.

Judy - I hope your pains get better soon. As for swimming... are you sure you want to tackle that after falling out of the boat???

Dana - :grouphug: I am glad that confessing your lack of running is making you feel better!!! Never doubt yourself!

Welcome back to all returning vacationers.

OK, I have to skidaddle. Like I said, work is NUTS!
