Wk of July 22--WISH Walking/Running Club

Dana:hug: I am so sorry for your loss and the pain you are experiencing. I'm with Dave and Kristi-- you're not lazy or slacking one bit. Congrats on signing up for the full!

Andrew-- you words were beautiful and touching, thank you!

Judy-- the towel reference was from "Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy", I thought surely someone would catch that! Read it, it's great.

Kristi-- I haven't read HP either. I guess we're the only two on the planet. I keep meaning to...

I ran six at an average pace of 10:40 a couple of days ago (on the TM, 2% grade). That was my fastest pace in a long while. I'll try to get some miles in today.

Sunny

Dana::hug:  So sorry for your loss. Hold your head high and I hope all your memories keep your heart warm.

Sunny WOW, you go girl. That is amazing

WWDAve Hope you and Erica got in a great walk today.

OK, back to work.....

Oh wait.

PatsBill have you registered for ToT yet:hug: Just checking:rolleyes1

Kim

Dana, my heart goes out to you. I pray for comfort for you. :grouphug:

Renee, thanks for the PMs! :goodvibes

Sandy, I'll go check out your link now!

Greetings Racing Team - :goodvibes

No training to report. I am considering moving my Half registration to the Wheelchair Division. My "good" leg is so tired, my knee on that side - yes the one with the new ACL - is all swollen up. My ankle is killing me. I don't have enough Ace Bandages in the house. I look like a mummy. :guilty:

However, I'm trying to have a good attitude. Yes, yes I am! :rolleyes1

In case anyone is following our latest family issues and wondering - yes, stepson18 is engaged. He has been ignoring his father's phone messages and not picking up when he calls. SS also swore to his grandfather he was not getting engaged, in the meantime he already was. My poor husband. He is beside himself. Me, personally, I'm trying to figure out how many DVC points we can buy with his college tuition!

AND OVER 500 TRIATHLETES GATHERED IN NEW YORK'S CENTRAL PARK YESTERDAY - WEARING NOTHING BUT THEIR UNDERWEAR. THE SECOND ANNUAL NAUTICA NEW YORK CITY TRIATHLON -"UNDERWEAR RUN" WAS HELD YESTERDAY. SPECTATORS LOOKED ON - AS PARTICIPANTS RAN IN BOXERS, BRIEFS, OR SPORTS BRAS - ALONG A PATH THROUGH CENTRAL PARK. EACH RUNNER WHO CROSSED THE FINISH LINE - RECEIVED A FREE PAIR OF BOXER SHORTS.

So, you're saying you didn't see me cross the finish line???

Actually, I watched a part of the Alcatraz Tri yesterday. Somewhere in the deep obviously fantasizing parts of my delirious mind I thought I'd love to do that some day. Guess I'd better learn how to swim first, eh? :lmao:

Lou - Congratulations on your first double digit L/R! :woohoo: Way to go!!

Terri - YAY for that first mile! :yay: You know that was the hardest one, right? You keep going! You'll be just fine. And I'll be right there behind you!

Kristi - I have no interest in HP either. I just can't get into that whole fantasy genre. Why can't I remember who the other Kristi was? Oh thanks for the Goo pics! You're too funny!! :rotfl2:

Mel - Good for you getting that 12 miler in! :woohoo: Especially in that humidity!

PatsBill - I'm sorry but you can't go to WDW and come back and not post pictures. :teeth: I think that's a rule here. :rolleyes1

Stephanie - Way to go on the 13 miles! :thumbsup2 That's fabulous!!

Minnie - OK, girlie, you too. Pictures. popcorn::

MSDave
- Push. Push. :goodvibes

Dana - Oh honey.... You are not lazy.

Sunny - I have to read that Hitchhiker's book. I hear all sorts of great things about it. Sunny! Holy cow, you're STILL fast!

Hey Gang, :wave2:

We just got back from our 3 week trip up to Canada to visit the relatives. We had a great time with lots of fishing, water-skiing and tubing. Kids loved seeing their cousins again.

Missed everyone here. I ran a little bit while up north and got in a 10 and 12 miler and a few other shorter runs, but I am anxious to start working out more diligently.:)

Four loads of travel laundry finished and put away, so now off to do some intervals at the gym. :scared:

Colleen

Race to start at 9. We arrived at 8:48, cut it pretty close. Find the pre-registration tent, got my number and goodie bag, head back to family. Put my chip on my sneaker (this was my first chip timed race) and DH pins on my bib. There are 400 runners. Make a mad dash to bathroom, stand in line, realize DH only pinned 3 corners, bib is flapping. Hustle back, get the last corner pinned, time to line up. Positioned myself towards back of crowd, this group all look like serious runners. Gun goes off, and off I go. I ran .25 mile, then had to slow down, knee already acting up…walked a bit, passed by just about everyone, but I don’t care, I am there to finish, not to win. After about the first mile, the course goes uphill, this was not mentioned in the course description, but? Slowed me right down, I was passed by anyone left behind me, but that’s still ok (except one man, he was 80, went zipping by, that one hurt). The sweeper car is now behind me, four ways flashing….as I go up up up. About halfway up is the exit to 89, just as I got there, a fire truck comes screaming up the hill…I don’t know if it’s going straight or turning, so I stop, just in case. It went straight. I got about halfway across, and here comes an ambulance, boy did I hustle, just in case it was turning. It was not. Made it to the top of the hill, pace not to too bad, but am off now by a few minutes. Next, turned onto a back road, it was rough. Not hard, but it was uneven and, well, rough. Caught up with the fire truck and ambulance, runner down. They were blocking the water stop, so I didn’t get any. Could now see the 80 year old man, was glad of that, I’m not totally alone! At 2.26 miles, I thought my knee was going to explode, it felt like a basketball (but wasn’t swollen) but now the sweeper car is no where to be seen, so I have no choice but to keep going. Came up and around a corner, found mile 3, knee was totally numb, so kept going. Around 3.5 is the photographer. Been told “always smile when you see the camera” but didn’t realize how hard this was! Pics did not come out very flattering. Sweeper now following me again. Girls in car singing, but not very well, I tried speeding up a bit to get away from them, but they stayed with me. Trying to catch up w/80 year old man. Right before mile 4 was another water stop, got some this time. Headed upwards again. Finally recognize where I am. Sweeper car leaves, guess they figure we’re close enough now. Get to the corner, no flaggers or signs or anything. OK, I know where the field is. 80 yr old man now behind me, as he stopped to ask directions. Around the corner and up another hill, this time a little one. Lots of runners walking towards me, kept asking, am I going the right way? Keep going, you’re almost there…get to parking lot, don’t see the clock…keep going…asked a man, he said, uh, well, go that way…finally find DD & DH, they said we came in the wrong side…I am just about crying, just tell me where the chip mat is…find it and walk over it. Chip guy yells at me, says I just reactivated my chip. I said no, I am just finishing. 80 yr old man comes across also. Chip guy says we came in the wrong way. I apologized, said we didn’t know where to go, no signs or flaggers. DH said the flaggers had come in a few minutes before we did. As we’re removing our chips, I tell 80 yr old man that we actually went 5.33, chip guy yells at me AGAIN and says he can’t do anything about it. I told him I wasn’t asking him too, that I was letting the man know in case he was tracking his times. Still close to tears, really need a drink and snack. They are out of water. They are out of yogurt. They are out of fruit. All that was left was soda. Too wiped out, too emotional, didn’t care about staying for the awards, just wanted to leave. BUT, I finished, My official time was 1:28:11, making me a 17:45 mile, but that doesn’t take into account the extra .33 I went, so I really had a totally acceptable 16.5 mile. Not fast enough for Disney yet, but on a bum knee, with 3 hills, 80 degree weather, minimal water, and my first 5miler, I don’t think I did too badly…

well, I didn't until I read what you all did over the weekend. But I guess I have to start somewhere...

Have a great day all...

Dana - All I can say is sorry. I am praying for you. And IMO you are one of the strongest people I know!:grouphug: Hang in there!

Life is crazy...as always, but still biking around 60 miles a week and running around 30 miles a week.

Only skimmed so sorry I missed people!

Hi Colleen welcome back. Where in Canada were you?

.

Congrats, Angie!:cheer2: You did great! Too bad they didn't have the course marked adequately. I'm sorry your knee hurt so much, but you really did do great for your first chip race. You'll be ready for Disney in no time!

Welcome back Colleen!

Angie

We all start somewhere. Next time out you'll know how it all works. A huge part of that first race is the busy-ness that you need to take care of before and after the race. In many ways the race itself is the easy part. Congratulations. I do think if you can find an exit buddy, to quote Squirt, to go with you in the race, you'll enjoy it 1,000 times more. Being out there alone when it's all new is pretty scary.

Stephanie

I'm so impressed you're at 13 in the heat of July. Just wait until autumn comes.

Colleen

Welcome back from the great white north. I'm glad you and your jet-running spouse got 12 in. I look forward to running with you on January 13, although if you burn up the MCM course in October I may pretend not to know you.

Dana

And I would be honored to run with you on January 13. Thank you for registering for the full. From reading your reports in the past few months I think we are capable of and are targeting almost the same result. You're a strong lady, not a slug. I cannot imagine the emotions you felt on Saturday. Bless you and your wonderful little family.

Well my body did something yesterday I didn't think it was capable of. It was the weekly Sunday 8 am club run, hot as hades, and we took off. The lead group which usually zooms off was going at an easy pace, and I was with them. I felt comfortable, and everyone was chatting nicely. One guy says he's really tired today, since he did an 11 hour, 12 mile, 4000 feet of elevation climb hike yesterday. I'm thinking everyone will take it easy today, which makes me dream I can stay with them the whole way.

Every 1/4 mile or so the lead pack accelerates just a bit. I feel the increase in speed, and know I should let them go, but I hang in there. After about 1.5 miles there are 15 or so of us. I am the last guy in the pack, but I'm there.

The acceleration continues, and we hit the 2.5 mile turnaround point in 20:50, right at 8:20 per mile. We turn around, make sure everyone is together and then . . .

The pack takes off for home. They are really going fast now, and I know I cannot possibly carry this pace all the way back. I hold them, and they keep going faster. At 25 minutes I promise myself when I get to 33 minutes I'll call it 4 miles and let them go. Then a wonderful event occurs for my ego, another runner cannot hold the pace and falls back. I'm not the first to drop from the pack  !! A couple of minutes later I simply cannot hold on and I let them go, running the rest of the way in alone.

Honestly I think I ran the same pace all the way back, but those darn guys kept accelerating. I finish about 2 minutes behind them, doing the 5 miles in 41 minutes, 8:12 per mile. I cannot remember the last time I was within sniffing distance of 40 minutes for 5 miles.

I am completely shocked at the impact of a big local running community and a supportive running club that meets for training several times a week. Just being out there regularly with other folks who have the same goals and love of activity as me is pure gold. When I'm with them I go longer and harder than I would alone, and when I am training by myself I do the easier and recovery stuff to allow my body to rest for the hard days.

I guess this means I need to join a Boston area runners club when I get home. Either that or we could virtually meet on weekends for long or fast runs.

Best

Craig

Hey Guys.

Erica and I had a wonderful walk this morning. That is after I peeled her away from that darn HP book. She is a big fan. We had a great lunch at Applebees after the walk.

You all know I believe in fate and that magic is loose in the world waiting for us to find it.

Well a bit of strangness:

Since I made the decision to do a 2nd trip to Disney this year and do the ToT, my luck has been amazing. In the 3 months since I made the decision the following has happened.

I needed to try to get some expenenses lowered so we could afford the trip without going into debt for it.

I called the car insurance agent and told him the rates were to high, they lowered the priemium for 6 months by almost $700.

I called the credit card company and told them their rate was to high, they lowered it by 4 % points.

An IRA I had at a previous job sent me the $4000 I had in it.

I passed 2 very difficult tests the first time out and got a large pay increase.

I got a sponser for race clothes and big discounts.

We bought a lottery ticket, (yes only one) the way my luck is going I figured it couldn't hurt. The drawing is on Wed night.

Hey guys-

I did a little over 6 miles on the TM yesterday. Today is a rest day. For those of you asking about the Nike+, here's the thing- I put in a goal of 50 miles in a month. I thought that was fairly reasonable. Well, I put in my goal after running hard the first few days of July. Hello- apparently it doesn't go back in time, so my goal started with me at a deficit! D'Oh! I had to run over 6 yesterday just so I could finally pass the goal. It's really great to be able to see your runs online, but it's going to make me crazy in the end. But Paula Radcliffe did tell me "congratulations, that's your longest run yet" or something like that, which I thought was cool. (However, I am fairly easy to please...)

Leanna- of course you are crazy workout girl! I just realized the other day that you are doing San Francisco one weekend and Disney the next. You go, girl! (Again, my pesky family is cramping my style :lmao: )

Angie/Bobby- so glad you are getting the miles in! Knew you'd be back. Glad you are feeling better.

Angie of the horrible 5 mile race
- way to go! The first 5k I really ran in I came in DLF and spent the last mile talking to the cop through his window. I hate they didn't have the course marked for you- that's always my fear that I'll lose sight of everyone and just be wandering. I find I don't pay any attention to where I am in races so I'd be lucky to find that chip mat from any angle.

Craig- you are actually making me think about sucking it up and joining the local running club. They're all so fast and look so confident- I'm neither! It sounds like you are having so much fun...

Sunny- if you liked Hitchhiker's Guide (and yes, I laughed about the towel), then you'd probably like HP. I liked both, and I have fairly eclectic taste in reading.

As for the WISHers getting in crazy long runs, nicely done!

I know I missed people, and I apologize. I'm impressed by everyone's work!

Jen in GA

WWdave wow those are all awesome things....can you send some of that luck this way:rolleyes1

Just a quick drive by to say hello to the WISH team. I have been swimming but no serious training to speak of. DH is having shoulder and forearm problems, likely a torn rotator cuff.

Hugs to Dana  during a difficult time.

Major kudos to Angie for putting in the steps and getting it done in your first 5 mile race :cheer2:

Welcome back to SWDave. We've missed you around here.

Have a great day everyone! :)

Dana--as everyone else said, you are not lazy. You are an extremely strong, driven person! Hugs to you during this difficult time!

Craig--I wish our town had a local running club. There are 2 major clubs within 30 minutes of me, but I just get intimidated by these folks. A lot of the members were old running buddies of my dad's and they are super fast. I wish there was a women's only group around, heck, I'd settle for one other person to run with. Oh, and don't be too impressed with the 13 in July. If I make it through 16, 18, and 20 in August outside, then you can be impressed!;)

Angie--Congrats on your 5 miler. :yay: I'm sorry the finish was a bad experience for you. The course should've been marked better--and the volunteers should've had better communication as to how many runners were left on the course. But the fact that you had the courage to get out there and start in the first place, and then continue despite adversity--you get major kudos in my book!

Judy--sorry you're still in so much pain! PD that you turn the corner soon!:wizard:

WWDave--can you send some of that windfall our way?????;) ToT will make our 4th trip to Disney this year (if you include marathon weekend). DH has sent me back to work PT to pay for my addiction! Every time he hears me say "Hey, I've got an idea" he starts sweating!:rotfl2:

Well, I should go and make my grocery list while the kids are still sleeping! Have a great afternoon all!

Thanks guys. It felt ALOT better just to get on here and confess my NON running. I really appreciate all of the encouragement you guys have always been so willing to give. Goodness knows, there are times we all need it. I just hope I give as good as I have gotten from all of you. Now, I am off to redo my training plan... once again. It seems I spend half of my training planning and re-planning my training plan, am I the only one?

Craig - Thank you! I can't wait to get there on the 13th and run with you!! Awesome job on that run!! I can't even imagine an 8:12. That is just super fast!!

Christa - I have to say that coming from you, that REALLY means alot! As you know I have always been in awe of how much you manage to do. I have always thought you were one of the strongest people I knew!

Well this will be a downer post so it you want to please look the other way.... I just had to post it.

Just back from vacation and guess what happens.... my DF was cut from his job :sad1: It wasn't the vacation as he didn't go (doesn't do theme parks) but a deep cut that occured.

Right now we are in panic mode and trying to figure out what to do. If you can spare it please send :wizard: :wizard:

Minnie

Stephanie I forgot to mention that Erica got an award at work, most abused nurse or something, and got a $500 award. I also forgot that I called the travel agent at DreamsUnlimited and told him someone else got a better deal on the hotel room, at the Swan and saved another $300 plus tax.

I really think fate is rewarding us for making the decision. Like WISH/Disney and us are going to somehow be connected. And the ToT event is envolved.

I know "I ain't right". But hey just because we are educated adults doesn't mean we can't believe that there are things that can't be explained.

Ok slinking off now.

One of my best friends lost her job because of "down sizing". She ended up with a better job making more money. She used a head hunter service.

Wishing you the best of luck in the search and eventual success.
