Wk of July 22--WISH Walking/Running Club

It sounds like people have gotten some great runs and walks in this weekend - congratulations all! You guys can just call me the crazy workout girl. Today I went to yoga for 1.5 hours, then popped into to power pilates for another hour after that! The yoga class was great - it covered mostly the basics, but I really liked the instructor. The Power Pilates was amazing! The instructor basically strung moves together continuously so there was no downtime, and it was a great workout. We'll see how those abs feel tomorrow! I may try to keep this combo up for Sundays while I still have my unlimited pass to the end of August. I know I really need to improve my core so the pilates will definitely help.

My mom has started on her MFM half marathon training plan and she is really enjoying it so far. Also great news is that my dad has started walking as well! Apparently he had a great walk on the TM yesterday. I am trying to convince him to participate in ToT, either in the 13K or the 6.5K. Since he is taking up walking too he may enjoy the race, rather than just waiting at the finish line to cheer us in.

Alright, I had better get back to the laundry. Have a good evening everyone!!

FINISHED HARRY POTTER - life can return to normal. Forecast for this week is for highs only in the 80's, so I'm looking forward to some outdoor runs that are really enjoyable.

Meghan - Had a company picnic this afternoon, so Annie set the DVR to record the race. Get home and find that ESPN2 moved it to ESPN at race time, so we have a nice golf tournament recorded instead! Had to watch Marco's crash on the internet...

Andrew - Definitely could use some gels on that long a run!

Gotta go do laundry and stuff that I should have been doing instead of reading...

Jackie

Hi all! I finally got my LR in tonight, which was supposed to happen Saturday morning. But I got the Harry Potter book Friday night at midnight and read it straight through, finishin Saturday morning at 7:30. Just in time to take a shower and go to a soccer tournament! Great book! So anyway, I did my 6 miles today. Felt great, except that I accidentally wore my old running shoes which definitely are worn down and therefore came home with blisters. Boo!

I am so impressed with all these great distances! Mel, Jackie, Stephanie, Sandy, Leana, Laurie, Maggie, Andrew and Tricia all with runs from 5 to 14 miles! I wonder how many miles WISHers log in a week total?

Nepatsfan73 - (which takes a really long time to type - can we call you Pat?) and Minnie welcome back from WDW!!

Dave congrats on your race PR!!!

Kim - did you get your LR in?

Erica - I know EXACTLY what you're going through. My mom died in Feb and it was a crazy time and tough to get back into things.

Bill - Hope the weather improves!

Happy training, all! :)

We had a fun family race yesterday Saturday.

It was a 10K/5K race. Husband did a 10 k part -- completed under one hour.

Young daugther won first place in her age cat. for her 5K in 33 minutes

And my 10 year old son finished in 33 and half minutes.

Myself, I ran just two miles this evening. Felt so great. Why doesn't more people run?????? It's the best medicine EVER!!

Our next 5K race might be this Saturday. Haven't decided yet.

I did my LW 9 miles today. Farthest I have walked. Went to the arboretum and it was very pleasant.

Wow! Great pace! Is that Morton's Arboretum? Just read in the local paper about a Fall Color 5K at Morton's on Sept 30th. I think DH and I might do it.

I am not a runner! I hate the pain this body causes as I run. I HATE running. Yet, deep down, I know I need to run, to get healthy. I deserve to keep at it.. to not quit. I have a lot of negative talk in my head.

Today I was a slacker, I read and finished Harry Potter.... and before I knew it - it was 8pm... and I jumped online, came here... and I couldnt NOT RUN! I couldnt let "the team down"... I had to "suck it up, and just do it!" Amazingly I did run 5 miles, and I didnt collapse, and I didnt die!! and I didnt walk it - I did keep hearing the post about making the steps smaller to get faster - so I try that a lot... It took me longer than I wanted to do 5 miles - over 1 hour and 25min!

So thanks for pulling me along!!

Thanks everyone on the good wishes. I new you guys would be excited. I really don't have anyone except dh to brag, I am just so dang happy about that pace. I wonder if I will ever be able to do that again...maybe when the cosmic tumblers fall into place...:lmao:

Pat, yes, the morton arboretum. Oh, that would be fun, if shedules allow, my dh and I will join you guys if you decide to do the 5k. I was thinking about it last year, but life just got in the way. I love the arboretum. We spend lots of time there.

Maggie

Wow, you guys had some awesome LR's this weekend! Great job to everybody! :thumbsup2

Day 2 for me and I did another mile. Went to the track (softer, flatter surface). Took 1:20 off my time from yesterday (finished in 17:43).

Tomorrow I'm gonna try the elliptical for some longer cardio. No pounding on the ankles there.

I'm going away next week (heading to Arkansas:wave2: to Stephanie and MelR - where is MelR btw?), so I think when I come back, I'm gonna start one of the walk programs to get ready for the 1/2 in SF in Oct.

This week is going to be busy trying to get everything done at work before I leave, but I'll try to check in when I can.

Terri

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

OK, I've been a big lazy slug lately. I had 1 run last week. Count 'em, 1... I did 5 miles on Wednesday, and that was my only workout for the week. Everytime I turned around I had something to do at work or home and the workouts just got left in the dust. I decided to just go with it, take it as a rest week and try to start fresh this week. I'm planning on doing 5 miles today - sometime after work. WISH me luck, I think I need a little push to get back out there.

For all those who read Harry Potter can you PM me and tell me how it ended? I so want to know who died. I know it is cheating, but I was the one in school who read the Cliff Notes... :rolleyes1 :lmao:

I read up to the middle of the third book and never picked it up again. I'm a very lazy reader. :sad2:

Last night I ran 3.65 miles. I'm used to running in the morning, but took the girls to my Mom's house. I'm definitely a morning runner! Although, the humidity was down and it was nice out I still felt like a slug. Good thing I'm doing RFTT and not TOT. :lmao:

Congrats to all those with those long runs!

Maggie sounds like you are really evolving as a walker. Welcome to my world.

Next saturday I'm walking in a run race. Last year I was dead last, in this race, so I was poster boy for the WISH slogan big time. It's a local high school race and there wasn't anyone there but the cross country teams and the running club. I'm walking the run again, I want redemption.

Good morning WISH Team.

I'm waking my Pretty Princess is a few minutes so we can walk before it gets hot. We have 6 miles planned for today and 8 miles for tomorrow. Walking is the best when we can do it together.

The FinishLine guy is ordering tech faberic race shirts for Erica and to race in for the local races. I told him the cotton was a bit warm so he called corp and got it approved to outfit us better.

Local races are a great way to get your speed work in. Unless you just really really enjoy getting in touch with your inner hampster, by making laps around a track. A race is a great change of pace.

Everyone have an amazing day today. A good way to start is a nice long hug from someone who loves you.

Dave:hippie:

Morning team. After yesterday's LR I've developed one of those pesky summer colds--thanks kids! So, I'm feeling pretty cruddy this am--supposed to xt today, so maybe I'll just go walk the track or jump on the elliptical for a bit.

Terri--Where in AR are you travelling?? Great job with the second mile!

SWDave--After the drama you've been going through, 5 miles still seems like a major accomplishment. Hoping you can jump back on the training bandwagon tonight!

SeeDisney--WTG on the family run--it's great to get the whole family involved.

Okay, need to grab some more coffee:surfweb: Check back in later!

Nepatsfan73 - (which takes a really long time to type - can we call you Pat?) and Minnie welcome back from WDW!!

So as not to confuse me with the original Bill, you can call me patsBill or some derivation. The nepats part of my user name refers to the New England Patriots.

HP update-daughters #1 and #2 have finished. When I asked where the book was so I could start, daughter #1 said she was reading it again to make sure she had all the facts right. If only I could get her to be as interested in her history studies in school. Thus, I'm still waiting.

Well.... I walk in with my head hung low.:worried: I have only run twice in the past 2 weeks, and no more than 5 miles each time. I have flat out been a slacker, in regards to just about everything over the past few weeks. Saturday was the 3yr anniversary of my middle son passing away. I didn't think it had bothered me as bad until I started seeing everything around me in chaos and I couldn't sum up the energy to fix it. Thankfully, I am feeling much better now though. The house is much cleaner, thanks to a last night frenzy, clothes are being washed as we speak, I just put up the Photo Contest which I completely skipped last week, and I am about to go work out. I finally registered for the full so I am definatley IN!! Now I just have to get my butt into gear and get it done. Ok... I feel even better now that I have come and confessed my laziness. Thanks for listening.

Dana

Dana - Thank you for sharing your pain - I know my home is in chaos, but its because *I*'m a mess - no excuses... I can pin point money woes, but its not good enough! I just wanted you to know that your post meant something, and I wanted to reach out for you and tell you - you have my sympathies! There are no words to comfort a mother on such a loss!

SPOILER ALERT - HARRY POTTER Here's a link it is the real deal, the last chapter is uploaded thru digital pics of each page - before you get there this poster has given a snynopsis - there is one mistake in her synopsis of who dies, but if you read the last chapter, its obvious where the "oops" came in!!

Dont click if you dont want to know!!
http://www.gryffindorgazette.com/20...he-real-thing-with-pictures-text-and-summary/

skip that whole part where they post what happens etc - EVERYTHING seems wrong, wrong wrong, just scroll down where they start pointing out highlights chapter to chapter -those are right, but that first 6 - 7 paragraphs are all wrong!! (about where the question about What's Harry Potter? from there on it seems accurate - I went there to read the last chapter, since it was a digital copy, I felt it would be accurate - that was!)

No training to report since last night was night one of GOO!
Well, wait a minute....I did some running....running to the rail! :rotfl:

Watch out Mohegan Sun & Borgata - here I come! :dance3:
Oh and did I mention, I just found out I am going backstage at the next 2 shows? :yay:

On a kind of WISH-related note:
I volunteer for an organization called USA Harvest. At the GGDs concerts, they collect non-perishable foods as well as health & beauty items for a local charity (usually the Salvation Army). Anyway, they made up shirts for the volunteers to wear. And they are safety yellow/lime! Sound familiar? ;) My friend Sharon who lives in WA was trying to explain it to me over the phone and I told her I knew exactly what they were like. I then sent her a pic of us in our t-shirts - BINGO!

Dana- I am so sorry for the pain you were dealing with during the anniversary of the passing of your son. You are definitely in our thoughts, and I don't think anyone would call your suffering laziness.

Dana - I am with Dave. We'll have none of this head hanging low business. You are definately not lazy - my goodness! Tons of  coming your way. I am so glad to hear you registered for the full!
