Wk of July 22--WISH Walking/Running Club

OK everyone, I am official. See my signature below!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  Yes, Jen, I am 99% sure I am going to run Disney this year. If so, will be there to see everyone finish, I had to run back to the hotel last year to catch my 5 p.m. flight after the full marathon and I hated that missed everyone finish and the party that night.

I was just printing out my script that I have to learn this week and thought I would get on and DIS real quick!

Then I ran 3 miles in 25:00.
Dana
WOW Dana! That is an 8.30 MPM! If I was doing WDW this year, I would be so happy to run with you!

Melissa - HI! Glad to hear from you!

Bill - You are an AWESOME dad! WTG on the runs!

Stephanie - :grouphug: for your cold! I hate summer colds!

Angie and Angie - Great race to one and :wizard: for your baby for the other!:grouphug:

Terri - YOU ROCK!:cool1: You are doing great on your WOs!

WTG on everyone getting in the steps! Best of luck to all your training...off to rehearsal!:cool2:

Hi WISH Team!

I've been reading, just can't get to the posting part much. Work and life have been hectic and I'm trying to encourage others around WISH. I've found myself running out of time and miss ya!

I've updated The WISH Team Calendar. Don't forget to put up your names there too!

I had Mom to Cleveland Clinic for the evaluation for her knee. She has opted for replacement and it will be done August 24th. Even at 89 years, they all feel she is a good candidate for the surgery.
:scared1:
Happy training to all!

ETA: HI to all the newbies! don't forget to get your WISH Shirt orders in. The closing date is near and you don't want to miss this! You must email Carrie your order and her email is listed in post #1.

Hi Guys.

Swam today -- it's not pretty, but it's exercise. :rolleyes1

Dana :grouphug: as you go through this difficult time.

Angie Hope your little one does well. It's harder watching them be sick than being sick ourselves.

Angie -- I'm right there with you on the "have to start somewhere". Just keep taking one more step. My only 5 miler was a few years ago and my time was about the same as yours -- as I neared the finish line, a man (eating a sandwich) said "did you stop for lunch?" Anyway -- don't let it get you down -- you did great!!

Mellody
pixiedust: Welcome.

Dona -- who is going to shoot for a 3 mile walk in the morning.

Ok, I STILL have no training to report. :sad2: You would think being on vacation and not going to WDW, I could get on the ball. But nooooo.

I guess going to 3 concerts in one week really throws everything out of whack! :rotfl: It was only supposed to be 2, but USA Harvest has no one volunteering to collect all the canned goods before the show in Atlantic City, so.....twist my arm....I am driving down Friday to handle it. Anything for my Goos! I am meeting my best friend Kristi too - so it will be a really fun night out with her. I am glad we will get this night out before her wedding in October with a zillion people around.

Tomorrow night is Mohegan Sun - with sadly, no running to the rail since it's a seated show. I am going to have to survive in row 4 somehow! :rotfl2: I guess they will see me enough since I have a meet & greet before the show. :cloud9: So, beware - you all will be inundated with a new pic of me with the boys. :cloud9: :yay:

With all that said, if I can find a half hour tonight before it gets too late, I will do an exercise DVD. I am not allowing myself to post until I do something!

Jen & Judy - We're at POFQ for marathon weekend too! It's our first time - stayed at POR a few years back, but like Judy, I'm trying to hit as many resorts as I can.

Stephanie - My doc told me that running wouldn't hurt me as long as I wasn't upping the mileage dramatically. Just don't go out and run a marathon right now!

Took Mystic for a 1.8 mile walk tonight - poor dog was so happy that she finally got to go along when I put on the running shoes!

Think it may be time to consider a new pair of shoes - this pair has around 200 miles on them, but I'm beginning to really feel the knees after runs.

Jackie

Hello Team

No training for me to report tonight, since I am slowly bringing my back into shape I am trying not to run two days in a row. I am very encouraged with they way my back is feeling!!

I did have a very frustrating day though. The proof of application that I needed for my passport showed up at 2:30 today, I gave it one last ditch effort but my boss said it was too late, they are leaving in the morning. :scared1: OH WELL, I really want to be there for Seth's appointment tomorrow anyway.

Dave That "just getting the steps in" seems to be going around. That is still a great run for someone who says they have fallen off the wagon. All is not lost!! :thumbsup2
Bill The cool never even made it over here and sometimes i am thankful for that pesky lightning!! :)
Maggie I really have been a major quitter my whole life, that is why last year was such a big deal for me. And that is why I love being on these boards and encourarging other people not to give up. I proved to myself over and over last year that we can accomplish so MUCH more than we think we can!!:yay:
Leana 86 sounds hot to me!! I hope you got your bootcamp in.
Stephanie Sorry about your cold!! I DESPISE summer colds they are miserable. :scared: Bobby told me last night he still wants to try to do RFTT. As for January, I will be there I just have to decide what I think I can do. I was actually going to ask for advice from everyone on this one. I need to take it easy for a little while longer, I swear I feel my back getting stronger every day. But by the time I am ready to really start training I don't know if I can be ready for the full. I may have to settle for the Half. I just don't know considering my "experience' but then time off, what I can do. How much time do you guys think you need, minimum to get ready for a full?
Dana I'm glad you have found time to exercise. It is amazing how much better we feel after we do!!:)
Jen YEAH!!! On signing up!!!
Kristi I hope you found time to get that DVD in!!
Jackie I know what you mean about the shoes. I feel in the soles of my feet.

OK so like I was saying in my comment to Stephanie. I need to get some advice, cause as I said in my post to Maggie I tend to be a quitter and underestimate my ability. How long do you need to train for a full, minimum. Although I have two 1/2's under my belt I did take a significant amount of time off and I need a little more time to nurse my back.

Please let me know what you guys think.

angie

Just another quick fly by note :rolleyes1

Did my 4 miles of so called speed training tonight. HA! Ok it wasn't THAT bad but still I've done a lot better but I stupidly wore heels to work today. note to self don't do that again, my shins were not happy campers.

In happy news DH bought me a little wee gift of a phone case. Now I know your think why bore the group but wait, there IS more.... it's a LIME GREEN CROC! Ok, not the REAL Croc brand but a knockoff. I can't believe he remembered. He was going to get me the pink one but said it wasn't a good pink then he remembered the WISH Team and grabbed the Lime. :goodvibes So now not only does my phone have a metallac sort of green (kinda lime-ish) it now will sit happily in it's comfy WISH green croc case.

Happy training!!!! Off to bed. Tomorrow's the gym again. I can't wait for the ToT weekend and our 'group run' :goodvibes

Diane, Darlin, I think you are getting close to "YARC" hall of fame status.:flower3: First you have us buy every darn lime colored WISH tag at Hallmark, now you will have everyone wanting a lime green phone case.:upsidedow

Dave:hippie:

Did a 7 mile walk today w/a girlfriend who is struggling w/her weight too. This was her first long walk and she felt great! Hopefully it will become a Tuesday night event for us.

Ok, so no DVD tonight - too much craziness here & now it's 1:30am!

Anywho, do any WISHers live close to Atlantic City?
And have no plans Friday night?
And maybe like the Goo Goo Dolls and Lifehouse?

Someone I know may have a pair free concert tickets for the Borgata... :rolleyes1

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I'm waking up and fueling up for a morning run. Nothing to report from yesterday. I've still been really busy at work, and I missed my x-training day yesterday. However, I'm determined to get my 4 runs in this week. I'll worry about the x-training next week.

Dana- Wow, I'm so impressed with your 3 miles in 25 min/8:30 mpm pace. Can you send your husband over here for me to run with for a couple weeks so I can get as speedy as you? Congrats on officially signing up for the marathon.

Jen- Whoo hooo!!! Congrats on biting the bullet and signing up for the full. Wow, WTG!!!

Colleen- Whadaya mean you're not ready to sign up yet? I think you and I are going to be the last ones on the bus.

Christa- Good luck with the new play and learning your lines.

Lily- PD :wizard: to your mom for her knee replacement surgery.

Dona- Great job swimming yesterday. Good luck with your run today.

Kristi- 3 concerts in one week! Wow, you are such a devoted fan. So do the Goo Goo Dolls recognize you from all the meet and greets? Do they remember talking about running with you?

Jackie- The walk with the dog sounds really nice and relaxing. I usually have to replace my shoes after about 250 miles.

Angie- Oh good, I hope your back continues to feel better. MfM has a 20 week training plan for the marathon. Which would have you starting to train near the end of August. I've seen 16-18 week training plans too, but they ramp up the mileage a little faster. MfM was nice because it took things nice and slow. It was a good training plan for my first marathon, and I was similar to you in that I was doing very little running (just aqua jogging) in June and July of last year due to severe shin splints. However, I got my legs healed up in time to start and complete the 20 week training plan.

DianeL- Nice job on your speedwork. 4 miles is pretty impressive. You take care of those shins now. Have fun with your lime green Crocs. I still haven't found the lime green WISH tags at Hallmark. I've seen other metal gift tags, but not the WISH ones.

Monte- Great job on your 7 mile walk.

Sunny- You're in my thoughts. Hope you're doing well.

OK, I better get my running clothes on if I'm going to do this.

More rain and thunderstorms over here last night. So I did the extreme crosstraining of turning pages on the HP book. Between the interruptions and getting sleep for work, I should be on track to finish around the end of August or so. :rolleyes1

I was able to get Billy out and ran him between the trees in our yard. Since he has been cooped up for the past couple of days, he was going stir crazy and pushing Mom in that direction. Hopefully it got some energy out of him.

MSDave - Good luck on your run today. I hope it is a good one. Since you seem to like to post right before I finish with mine, great job on the run on Monday. That is a great pace.

Kristi - So since you declared you wouldn't post until training, I make the motion that lifting lots of food for the food bank will count as cross training. Although by posting frequently right now, it lets everyone know that the bail fund wasn't needed. ;) Have fun at the next concert.

Monte - Great job on the walk and getting your friend out there. Hopefully it was a good experience for her as well.

Diane - Hope your shins start feeling better. How people wear heels is beyond me.

AngieT - Sorry about the last shot for the passport. Glad the back is feeling better and I agree not to go too hard at first. I would say that for the full you could probably do it in 16 weeks or so since you know what the half takes. It is alot different after 13 miles, but you know what is needed to finish races and if you aren't expecting to come in first you should be able to beat the sweepers.

Jackie - Glad to hear that Mystic had a fun time. I need to get ours out since he looks like he is gaining a little weight. The problem is he doesn't like to be outside with thunder and that is about all we have right now.

Dona - Good luck on your walk this morning. I hope it was a good one.

Lily - Hope things calm down for you soon. :wizard: for your mom's knee replacement.

Christa - What play are you in now? I am amazed at how much you are able to accomplish in one day between rehearsals, kids/family, work and training.

Jen - Congrats for signing up. Look forward to seeing you there.

Dana - That is a great time. You were burning up the miles. :thumbsup2

Krista - Glad to see you around. So how was the birthday dinner/surprise.

Andrew - Hope your next training feels much better.

Judy - We stayed at POFQ in the past and loved it. Although the beignets in the morning may not be the best marathon prep food. :lmao:

Stephanie - Hope your cold gets better soon. Good luck on your kitchen project, I think I have used up my allotment of projects for the year but Lynnda is looking for other stuff to get done. :rolleyes1

Sandy - You might need a visor if it is going to be hot out. I wouldn't worry about a towel since it is probably just going to get in the way. You might keep it in your car for the end but not carry it.

Colleen - Lynnda says hi but with both kids home for the summer and the music minister out of town, she is keeping quite busy. I know she is reading because I hear her make some comments on the things I write. We hope you do Disney this year and look forward to seeing you at the finish line.

Leana - Great job on the 5 miles. Glad to hear that you were able to go a new route and had some shade and breezes during the run. Hope you were able to have your boot camp between the rain.

Sunny - You can never have too many smilies. Hope your back is feeling better.

Maggie - Glad to hear everything went well. Hope you are able to get your training in that you want.

Kim - Hope you were able to get your 10k in last night. Hope your day on the phones wasn't all that bad.

Terri - I haven't had any problems with getting a signal recently. Actually it seems to be getting it a little faster around here.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Bill

Good morning team!!!

Got in 4K last night on the TM, I really dislike the TM, makes the workout so long. I think my program calls for hills tonight, this is my first hills night. I think I will do the TM as there is only killer hills around here and I don't think I am ready for that. What incline should I put my TM at????

Bill Chasing after a little boy sure sounds like XT to me, glad he is better.

Leana WTG on your 5M !!!!!

SOrry I can't finish this post, I am already 10 min late for the showers.

Will check back later.

Kim

Thanks Bill - I know a 5K is just a walk in the parks, so its no big deal, and will be fun... just a tad stressing... first race and all... it may be the reason in yesterday's run I wrenched my knee somehow... it feels like I need ot "pop" it, or feels like it may give way... a sharp pain if I'm not careful around under the knee cap area... I took advil every 4 - 6 hours, iced and elevated it last night - this morning, not quite painful (not at all when I'm sitting) but I'm aware going down the stairs!!

OK, just a quick post about my run this morning.

6.24 miles; 58:54 min; 9:26 mpm pace.

The run felt good this morning. My lower legs were a little stiff, but other than that I felt nice and relaxed. It was a beautiful morning to run.

I'll be back later.

Christa - What play are you in now? I am amazed at how much you are able to accomplish in one day between rehearsals, kids/family, work and training.
Bill
I have to learn a new 10 page script every wweek. I am in a kids show on Sunday mornings for our church...this one is totally volunteer, but loads of fun.

Way to go on the run SWDave!

I know a 5K is just a walk in the parks, so its no big deal, and will be fun
eeyore45! It will be fun, and IT IS A BIG DEAL!  Good for you on getting out there. :cool1: I did not respond to your last post with the question b/c I was still thinking about it. I always take very little to a 5k, but if it makes you feel less stressed to have stuff with you get a running belt. You can have H2O, a phone, camra, ect....and for sweat, my BIL carries a small hand towel with him. GOOD LUCK!:goodvibes And lots of :wizard: :wizard: for your knee!

Angie - :wizard: on the back too! I would give myself at least 18 - 20 weeks for a marathon. I follow the program on tricharlotte.com .....I think it is a 20 week program. Look under the link that says training or something like that. It is on the right and you will have to scroll down a little bit.

Dona - Swimming isn't pretty for me either! I am so SLOW!

Off to work! WIll tri to WO btwn clients!

Dona - Did you get in that 3 this morning?

Kristi - Girl you have been to more contests this week than I have my entire life!! Have Fun!!

Jen & Judy & Jackie - If they have availability I really want to stay at POFQ this year. The only hotel we have stayed at and liked better was AKL.

Jackie - I almost always have to head for a new pair of shoes not long after 200. This pair has almost made it to 300, but I can feel that I'm pushing it. We have our Sept WDW Vacation that has to be paid in full by Aug 7th so shoes are put on the back burner!!

Angie - I don't have an answer to your question but I sure do hope your back feels better and stays strong.

Diane - We went out for my Best Friends birthday on Friday night and I wore heels, not real high ones either, and my legs were killing me in less than 2 hours. I think our legs get used to being spoiled in our running shoes, and revolt when we put them in those darn heels.

MSDave - I would happily let you borrow him, but unfortunately he decided to stop running because of the heat. He works in it all day, and the last thing he wants to do when he gets home is run in 90+ weather. Which I understand. I am borrowing my MIL's treadmill for the summer to help alleviate the running in the heat for me and Michael, so maybe since he can run inside he might try again. He's scary fast for a new runner.

Bill - You HAVE to finish the HP book. Just keep telling yourself "just one more chapter" over and over and over again!!

I may do one of my DVD work outs later today as XT. I am on an antibiotic and can't have any long sun exposure so the pool is out. Of course, we all know when it comes to going for a run I don't consider that long sun exposure!! The things we can convince ourselves of to get that run in, huh? We are supposed to have nothing less than a 60% chance of rain until next Tuesday, so I am really hoping to pick up the MIL's treadmill. After my little car crash I am less keen on driving to the trail in the rain!!

Dana
