Hey all. Yesterday when I got home from work, my DH suggested we go walk outside instead of my using the treadmill. It was cold and windy (I couldn't feel my hands in my gloves for much of the walk), but we walked over 3 miles on trails in a nearby state park. The doggie was thrilled! I didn't hate it anywhere near as much as I had the treadmill the day before, and no side stitch, either.
I took tonight off so that I can start racking up time and miles tomorrow!
Allyson, thank you so much for your encouragement. I know we're going to be great motivators for each other over the next year! Oh, and the Asics you are talking about were my #2--they are so cute! And while clothes don't matter, I bought some coolmax pants for my workouts--so much more comfy than the cotton (and cuter, too!).
Mel, I'm not a treadmill fan (and I hate how it feels like the floor is moving when I get off after an hour), but because of my asthma, I'm not supposed to walk outside (yesterday, I was tempting fate but couldn't face the treadmill!).
Maharae, I'm so impressed with how much knowledge and experience exists here on these boards. You all ARE supercool athletes, and I'm honored to hang around here with you. I never thought I'd join another gym, let along a "racing team"! Thank you to you and everyone else here who make newbies feel so welcome.
Helen, that sounds like an outrageously fun time (if you have the courage to let other pinch you to place bets!). I like the superpower idea. It does seem less exciting if there's a bridge now that you brought up the superpowers....
Bill, since the DM has to be my friend I try to avoid demonizing it any more than necessary--or I might not go back! I don't like it, ever, and if I thought I could get my walking in regularly without it, I probably wouldn't do it at all.
Renee, I had no idea week 2 would be harder! Thanks for the encouragement and for letting me know I'm not alone in that.
Cecilia, I totally agree with the accountability thing. I've told everyone I'm in training and that's why I volunteered to captain a team here--it forces me to follow through and not give up!
Debra, thanks for your kind words. I had no idea the real athletes here also have days they just don't want to do it, let alone don't like it!
Christa, holy cow,
running? I'm just walking. I'm not sure I could even wog... And thanks for the stitch note--I'll make a point of drinking lots before working out! I had a stomach bug over the weekend, so perhaps I needed to focus more on rehydrating myself....
Krista, thanks for cheering me on--this week, I sure needed it!
Tricia, we did the Pirate and Princess party last August--I hope you had a blast! We loved it!
Judy, I hope those orthotics work for you--I admire you for going 13 miles in shoes that hurt--that will probably be my downfall. I hate when my feet hurt! And good luck finding new non-hurty shoes, too!
Amy, I wish I could have taken your mat class--there one at my gym is only once a week at a time I can go.
Debra, Leana, and Marsuzcos, hope you are feeling better! Being sick sucks! I admire all of you for exercising even when you feel bad!
Chris, that's twice as fast as I am on the TM! Nice! Glad to hear you are feeling better.
Christy, ooh--Boma! We never made it there, even when we stayed at AKL (DH had just returned from the Persian Gulf and slept through most of that stay). Have something yummy for me!
Renee, I agree--this thread is hard to keep up with! I fell asleep last night after dinner and I'm trying to catch up!
Carrie, thanks for the encouragement! I'm glad to know that so many people don't like the DM!
