Wk of Jan. 27th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi all. I have been MIA on this thread since last week but I do have some training to report. I was able to get a run in at Ft Wilderness on Saturday (not sure what kind of milage or anything I just had fun getting out there) Here are some pictures

I stopped to take a picture of some water (not the cleanest looking water)

But when I stopped I realized this was coming out of the bushes

Then I saw a baby and realized it was a whole family - they watched me but went on with crossing the road

I saw other things on the run as well but for some reason they didn't get uploaded onto my picture gallery and I don't have them with me :rolleyes1

Here is a pic of me and my neice at the end of Saturday's Pirate and Princess Party - this was the 2nd night of being out until after 1 AM :scared1: (no wonder we came home exhusted!!)

We had such a great time. I can't WAIT to go again in May since my neice wants to run the 5k.

Today I did manage to get in 1.5 miles (even though I planned on doing at least 2) my calves were hurting so bad I decided to stop at 1.5 (I was on the TM or else I would have ended up probably doing the 2 miles) So yeah today seems to be a stonker of a day for alot of people!! Here's hoping it gets better!!

Kristi - OMG there's no Goo in your signature!! Get off the internet.

Here ya go Judy! I wouldn't want you to be Johnny Goo-less! :rotfl:

I figured everyone was sick to death of my crazy non-WISH themed siggies.
I thought I would be 'normal' around here.

I know clothes don't make the man, or in this case shoes don't make the woman but I just got back from my first trip to a real running store and got myself a pair of real running shoes! The lady there was great! Had me walk around, go on the treadmill, run outside. I tried on around 6 different pairs and she would watch me run.

What a difference! Gosh they feel so much cushier than my regular old sneakers. They are a full size bigger than what I normally wear. I ended with asics GT 2130 and I will say in addition to feeling good on the feet, they are mighty purty too! :goodvibes

I just got back from my podiatrist with my shiny new red custom orthodics. We put them in my ASICS and I walked around a bit. They feel pretty good but we'll see. I'm hesitant about them but he thinks they will really help.

We looked over the tread wear patterns. I really do supinate. Plus I am a mid-sole striker. Who knew!? Anyway, he explained to me that I don't hit heel first. My heel tread is like brand new. I hit mid-sole then I am supposed to roll to the inside of my foot and push off the ball of my foot with my big toe. I don't do that. I push off on the outside of my foot. This also explains why my toes tend to "fold" over underneath each other, which after about 9 or 10 miles is very painful.

So all this was good info as I am about to start the search for new running shoes.:thumbsup2

I  my podiatrist! He said "These should really help someone like you who runs so much."

Tricia - Oh COOL pictures! Wow!

Kristi - Oh thanks. I feel much better now. So since you're on the internet anyway, go register for the Minnie. You know I'm not going to leave you alone until you do. :rolleyes1

Ok, no problem. Just send me a winning lottery ticket and I will! ;)

I just finished my Leslie Sansone Walk & Jog DVD.
I was going to go to the gym and try that treadclimber thing-a-ma-bob for xt, but was lazy and didn't feel like doing anything (except watch My Super Sweet 16 show on MTV - OMG! I would kick my kid out if they acted that snotty. Seriously.). Finally, I dragged my butt off the couch to do a DVD.
Baby steps, baby steps!

Trisha - aha proof I don't hallucinate (well other than after mile 20 anyway), I saw a deer on the other side of the road when we pulled into the marathon expo, i was very worried about it, hopefully it's one of your ones just taking a longer than normal stroll round the grounds. We also had a raccoon saunter in front of the car when we pulled into our hotel on the 192 (which then climbed half way up a tree and just kind of hung there looking fluffy) and an armadillo munching it's way through something or another. Now I'm aware this is probably not exciting to all of you - but we only get kangaroos hopping down the side of the road here (actually I haven't seen a live one yet, just a few 'sleeping in the sun'!!!!!) so that lot was exotic.....

Hey Kristi, you inspired me! I was feeling VERY lazy and distracted today and after reading your posted decided that I getter go do Leslie's Walk/Jog, too! Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Hi, gang. I realized I forgot to update my progress on this thread. Another C25K day, plus another 50 minutes walking on the treadmill. I also thought I should figure out how long it takes me to do a 5K at this point of the C25K. I'm not even ready to post a time, that's how slow. I'm trying not to be down about the pace, even though my time included a 5 minute warm-up. Still...ugh.

I think maybe my mood has more to do with my sore throat and a feeling of impending doom--oops, I mean my impending cold. It makes me tired and cranky. So I'm just calling it a day now. After all, I want to be in tip-top shape for February! :thumbsup2

I'll try to catch up with you all later. Happy training and a good night, all!

Hi Team

Just updating from my world. Hold on to your hats...I actually ran today! :cool1: It was a 3 miler on the treadmill b/c the wind was WICKED here. I set it to hills mode and just went! In addition I took a mat pilates class and taught one as well. I'm a wee bit tired tonight ;).

Deekaypee....Feel better girl. Go get some rest! :goodvibes

Kristi: Super sweet 16....one of those guilty pleasures. Aren't those kids just monsters????

Tricia: Cool pics!! :thumbsup2 Thanks for sharing.

Christa: 8:30 pace on the trails!!! :worship: You are da' bomb!

Judy: Good luck with the orthotics. You do have to give them time...b/c at first they will feel really awkward. I hope they give you the relief you need!!! :)

Christa and Krista: To answer the Iron Man question. I think we call them IronGods and IronGoddesses. Those people have my utmost respect. I can't even imagine how they do it.

It feels so wonderful to read all of these posts! It makes me feel like there are so many people I can relate to!!
I came down with a humdinger of a cold last weekend--pretty much did nothing but sleep. I went outside for my first run since then and felt absolutely horrible, but when finished......felt so great!
I tried to run a 4 mile loop, and prob walked most of it, since I had coughing spells lasting a few minutes each, and the temp here was 22 degrees. I usually don't go out when the temp is below 28 because that seems to exacerbate my asthma, so I guess that is another reason my lungs felt so bad. But I just HAD to get outside.......

All you NC WISHers - has anyone else looked at this race?

http://ncraces.com/Crystal_Coast_Race.php

I'm kinda thinking a weekend at the beach in March might be nice... especially since I waited too late for the Myrtle Beach Half.

Jackie
WISH I could, but I'll be in Ohio that weekend for a soccer tournament. I do plan on doing the half in Raleigh in April!

In the absence of all activity thanks to this bout with bronchitis I put together my training plan for the entire year....

Minnie training officially starts the week after next and from there I jump into training for the marathon in Quebec City. Two weeks off after that and time to start training for Disney. Whew, it is going to be busy!

The worst thing about this sick thing is I get majorly winded and dizzy after going up a flight of stairs. I told my dad that you would never know I ran a marathon a couple of weeks ago as I feel soooo out of shape.

No you weren't hallucinating - there are lots of deer in the WDW area. We actually saw a few more from the bus as we were on our way back from the parks. We also saw wild turkeys on the side of the road. On Thursday afternoon there were quite a few turkeys. Kinda funny you have to specify that its a "real" deer or turkey as opposed to a Disney deer or turkey!! LOL I would be SO excited to see a kangaroo just hopping down the side of the road. To me that is exotic!!

As far as training for me today - only managed 1.5 miles because my dang calves were killing me again. Man I have got to get them worked out and stretched since I am planning on siging up for a 5k today - the 5k is next Sunday (I am just going to the running store today to sign up - to save that dang Active.com fee!!) I might also join the local Road Runner club. They have membership renewals the beginning of the year so if I am going to join I better join before to much of the year goes by. Does anyone else think its a good idea to join the local Road Runner club? I am not sure if I should just sign up individual ($25) or sign up as a family for $30 even though my DH doesn't really run??

Please ignore the conspicuous lack of training in this post. :rolleyes2

I guess WWDave doesn't come to the weekly thread anymore, hu? :confused3

WFloydBill - No, no, you guys come first. I'm just trying to spread the love around, KWIM?

Jackie - Excellent! :thumbsup2 Did you oversleep today? I did. I think I'm going to have to move the alarm to the other side of the room. I'll have to do my 40 tonight when I get home and I hate that. I'd much rather do it in the morning. Grrrrr.

Amy - Thanks. I did have orthodics made for my work shoes and I just can not wear them. I feel like the housekeeper in The Bird Cage. Ever see that movie? OMG that scene when he puts shoes on is hysterical! :lmao: Anyway, thanks, I hope they help too. I'm OK up to about ten or so miles. After that my feet really start hurting. And YAY for you for getting on the TM and Pilates AND teaching it! Phew, I'm tired just reading that!

Leana - You are not at all out of shape. You're sick! Take it easy, you'll be back to your old running machine self in no time. :thumbsup2

Did 6 miles last night on the parents treadmill. It felt pretty good and I don't even mind getting on a treadmill anymore. I don't love it don't get me wrong. Took me 70 minutes.

My legs still feel sore and my knee is still not great, but it feels better. :thumbsup2

Just did W1D3 of the Couch to 5K. I used the podcast for the first time and LOVED it! Made it so nice to know when to run, when to walk. The music is not my pick necessarily, very techno and brought me back to my college clubbing days  but I really like the having someone tell me when to start and stop and telling me I CAN do it!

I think I might do W1 again. I just kind of feel like I could use more time before moving on to the W2.

Used the new shoes for the first time too and they felt good!

Questions for all the mom's who were able to run/walk throughout their pregnancy: how long can I expect to keep running? When do I need to drop down to a walk and then a crawl? How long can I expect to be able to do longish mileage (like 5-6)? I'm working on my schedule for this year and I have it planned up until my due date--8/12, but I don't know long to plan on running or if I need to start walking like in June or July. Am I only going to be able to do 3 miles for a long run on Saturday, or can I realistically plan on 5 or 6 (I don't plan on going over 6-7 miles any time over the next few months) for a long run/walk?

Thanks!

Krista
