Hi Melissa, I'm sitting on my computer - supposed to be working on my grant, but I'm reading posts. You go girl! :cheer2:

Let's see - around 11:00am one month ago I was just about finished with my first MARATHON!!! Whoo hoooo! I was certainly in EPCoT by this point, and maybe just about near the choir at mile 26.

:moped: me (se - it's just putting and not going anywhere!!)

Dave - don't you wish you could write grants as fast as you could run marathons!!!!

That would be AWESOME!!! Churn out a grant in 5 hours. I'd take that. Although actually writing a grant is kind of like the training for the marathon. Lots of long hours of writing, thinking, blah, blah, blah...

I actually hed that thought (you know, the whole endurance thing!) About 2/3 of the way through! (w/ the ride, not the grant!)

Jen - Congratulations on the new toy! :thumbsup2 I love my Garmin! Jen, I have to ask you a stupid question. Was it you sitting on the ground across from me the morning of the Half? I'm terrible with names (thus the name tags) and I met so many people in like 48 hours that weekend so please please please don't take it personally.

Ohhh Judy.... Yes that was me. I had on the yellow Tinkerbelle visor and we ate bananas at the same time. I was also at the Pop Century meet, but there were a lot of people and I only chatted with you briefly. I don't think it was a dumb question, I am still trying to put names with faces. All the new pics on the boards have helped me a lot.

Funny thing, Colleen walked up to me at the Pop meet and I had NO CLUE who she was, until she started talking about the crazy dream she had about us. Then I was like... OH YA. It was just so many new people in such a short period of time. I HOPE I can come back next year, it will just rock!

With all the PIG talk, I am starting to wonder who DOESN'T want to do the PIG!!!!

Abra Cat- MOM TIME? Is that a joke???

Heh-- yeah, I'm a funny girl... :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Well, I'm having kind of a bummer of a day. I went to the Y this morning, and my knee was hurting and I had to stop running on the treadmill and walk my last 10 minutes. I have self-diagnosed tendonitis, but since I think my problems stem from my wacky feet, I'm going to call a podiatrist today and make an appointment. Also bumming me out-- I got on the scale at the Y, and it showed me 5 pounds heavier than my scale at home! That put me back over 170, which I thought I'd never visit again, so I've spent the morning fighting my urge to make myself feel better with a pint of ice cream and a box of cookies (SO glad I don't keep junk food in the house!).

I'm sticking this smilie :dance3: in here, because it's the only thing making me laugh right now. :dance3: :dance3: :dance3: Heh.

Hi everyone!!

I didn't have time to read everyone's posts, but wanted to poke my head in and say "Hi!!" while I had the chance. My stress level has been unbareable lately--- work, school, home.... it's all kind of coming apart at the seams right now. But what can you do, right?!? ;)

I thought I would toss this out--- did anyone else who is registered for Goofy recieve a ChampionChip that they did not order?? I got one in the mail a couple of days ago-- it's the 2008 Goofy Race and a Half ChampionChip in its nice little case. But I didn't order it. :confused3 I even doublechecked my order form :confused3 Definately didn't order it. :confused3 Maybe it's my "Year of a Million Dreams" suprise?!? :confused3

Got to dash!
Take care!
Kevin :earsboy:

Hi everyone, I haven't caught up on todays posts but I have a quick question before I do something silly and register for a 1/2??

Now I still haven't decided on the 1/2 or full in Disney.....but there is a great run here in Toronto on Sept 30th. DH and I where going to sign up for the 1/2 will that leave enough time to rest and prepare for the full or 1/2 in Jan for Disney??? I believe it is 14 weeks between runs,

What do you think???

Thanks for the insight.

Kim

Finally got back to running last night. I've been skipping it because of knee problems (IT Band). I spent the last week stretching, icing and taking ibuproferin. Only ran 3 miles on treadmill and didn't feel any pain. But, I never really felt pain on the treadmill anyway, so the test will be this weekend when I get out.

I need to find a place to run other than my neighborhood. The streets are really slopped and that is contributing to my knee problems. It was nice just running out the door but now I'll need to get in the car and drive somewhere to run. Just doesn't sound right, driving to a running place :) Is that like trying to get a parking spot at right next to the gym door so you don't have to walk as far?

enjoy,
Duane

Carrie - ...And don't make me come down there and give that Scott a piece of my mind, cause I don't have that much to spare. He better not be looking at you in disgust. It better be loving concern and he better whip up a really nice dinner tonight to make up for it. So there!
Carrie - yeah - what Judy said!

Judy - yeah, they are 'my boys' - love 'em!

Kim - I am no expert, but that 1/2 seems very doable to me. Go for it!

Kevin - hang in there!

Kristi - that isn't so bad. If you want, come join us on the losing weight while training thread. (wow, that was weird typing a message to my name...)

Jen - I know what you mean - now I am wanting to do the pig! Maybe one of these years. I'll add it to the list with the Hawaii 1/2...

Kristi[/B] - that isn't so bad. If you want, come join us on the losing weight while training thread. (wow, that was weird typing a message to my name...)

Thanks, Kristi, maybe I will (I see what you mean about the name thing... hee!).

Hi Guys!

Checking in today...it's a rest day for me, so nothing new to report. I made a reservation at the BC for marathon weekend, assuming that we will be able to walk out of the International Gateway and right to our room after the Half. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Kristi -- I am certainly hoping to lose weight while training. And you have a thread for this?! The DIS is awesome! :thumbsup2

Duane-- I have a friend who lives in LA, and she drives to a gym 2 blocks from her home so she can work out. I just don't get this? :confused3

Kim-- As a newbie I don't have any advice, other than to say just contemplating that sounds awesome!

Kevin-- I hope things settle down for you soon. Here's some pixiedust: to smooth the way.

Abra cat-- Good for you! The fact that you resisted the goodies is fantastic! Scales are calibrated differently. Stick with one and you will feel better.

Dave-- I am a grants professional, too! I specialize in government and quasi-governmental funding in the fields of homelessness and affordable housing.

Melissa-- Doesn't it feel great to be done!

Dena-- That was one fabulous post! You rock!

Kathy-- How's this cold treatin' ya?! ;)

I hope everyone is having an awesome day!
Maria

Well, I got through my 3 miles today--at about 9:15 pace. The ankle/foot felt pretty good--but really tight after not doing anything on it for 3 days. We'll see what I feel like this afternoon.

MelR--tell me what you know about the Hogeye, if anything--I noticed it today when I was printing off an entry form for another race (The River Trail 15K--if you're interested!;) ) But I think the half for me would be possible--but worried about the hills--I went to school in Fayetteville, so there's no fooling me! :rotfl: And, wow, I'm impressed that you can Dis while riding your trainer! You go girl!!

Kevin--glad to hear from you

Hey, have a question for all you Disney marathon experts--I should have an official time for proof of finishing time to put on my entry fee after my race in March--but DH won't have anything--should I leave mine blank as well??? Would it be possible to start in the last corral and move up to finish around the 4 1/2 hr. mark??? Well, lunch time is over, and hte natives are getting restless!

Kim - I say go for it. I don't think it should be a prob. One thing you can do is consider the 1/2 that you do first a training run and do it at a training pace.

Maria - I am soooooo glad to be done (for today!)

Stephanie - I did Hogeye full last year. It is actually my PR marathon! It is hilly!! If you do the half, you don't really get to skip many of the hills. The hills in between the 1/2 turnaround are there, but they are not as significant as the one's in downtown fayetteville! Fleet Feet usually has beer at the aid station at the top of the biggest hill (i think it is sanger Dr.!) I got the last one last year. They actually tried to give me the whole can!!! It was not the good stuff though, let me tell you!! It is not a marathon that has lots of spectators. It is fun b/c fayetteville is quirky and race is quirky. I really liked it, but if you do the full, bring a friend, b/c the course gets real lonely!! (oh yeah, if you do the full, you would have a good chance of placing in your age gp b/c not many people do it. I did't place last yr, but i ran w/ my husband and one of his friends. The friend had done a few sub 4 hr. marathons and never came close to placing but at hogeye, he ran w/ me until around mile 20 and eneded up placing 3rd in his age gp:banana: )I'll try to post a elevation profile of hogeye for you.

Hi, everyone! I am never going to catch up, but wanted to at least say:

Carrie – great job on conquering your fear, sweetie! I am as fearful of running/walking outside (even in good weather) as you are of doing it on the TM, so I feel for you. But you should be really proud of yourself! :yay: So glad Scott is feeling better but tell him not to try to do too much too fast.

Kim – :woohoo: on the awesome scale episode!

Dave – I am so glad you had such a great day with DD9. See, those are the times that carry us through the rough episodes. God knows what he is doing! :thumbsup2

Stephanie – I hope you are feeling better! :goodvibes:

Mel – You are in my thoughts and prayers today. I hope your test went well! pixiedust:

Christa – so nice to see you here, sweetie! Sending you a huge  for a good day.

My training has really been suffering during the week as my work commitments are keeping me busy. Now that Howard has started his spring MBA semester, I really feel guilty for going to the gym after a long work day and sometimes, after-work meetings instead of going home to DS13. Anyway, I went to the gym last night after a long day and finally threw in the towel after 2 very slow miles (13:55 pace; 27:49 time). UGH! Going to give it another shot tonight. It should be a rest day, but last night hardly counts as exertion, KWIM? I really should try to make it to the gym in the a.m. but it is hard to do if I am going to be in court that day -- HATE to lug a suit, etc. to work for the post-gym shower. It has been outrageously cold here and carrying anything to work requires more effort than I am willing to exert.

Okay, back on track! My next race is a 5K on 3/3 and I really am determined to blow away my PR. I just have to keep reminding myself that the effort goes in before the race, not just at the race!

Sorry I haven't been keeping up very well this past couple weeks! It's just been crazy around here. I'm just jumping back in where I can.

Jen - I hope you get to feeling better soon! Is the stress a seasonal issue? I sure hope you get some relief from that, too. No fun. :grouphug:

Laurie - Feel better soon!

Kristi - Congrats on the tickets! I think 45 minutes of phone dialing definitely counts as cross training. :)

Carrie - I always use the sissy clip, and I don't have the excuse of having taken a spill. Way to go for getting back on the TM!

Dave - Awesome post!

Kim - Woohoo!! Way to go! :woohoo:

DH and I got back on track yesterday (hee, it's a running joke....we got back on TRACK!). Put in 2.5 miles on the TM, and it felt SO good to do it!
