Wk Of Dec 8 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Howard

Does this mean you are done, or nearly done? If yes, good for you. I'll have my Babson grades done Saturday, but my Sloan final exam isn't until the 20th so I'll be still grading them up to or after Christmas.

I know you're a pro at the short training window, and this time you have 1 full month. Go wild son.

Craig

Good morning team:

Diane: I have Yak Traks but I find them hard to run in. I can use them for a brisk walk or a very slow jog but I cannot full out run in them. It may just be me!! I also snowshoe in the winter for some walk/cross train. And, of course, I skate ski which is an incredible workout on its own. It takes all the cardio stamina that you have and gives you an awesome booty workout!!!

AmyBeth: Kudos to you for getting out and running in this crap. We got 6 inches overnight and there is no way I would run ankle deep in snow. You, probably live in not such a rural area as me and they actually plow your roads more than one swipe during the storm....:rolleyes1

I am up for 30 minutes of XT today so...skiing it will be. Anyone who has only tried in line XC skiing or traditional should give this a try some time!!

Happy training everyone and :wizard: to the sick and wounded out there. Anyone in the ice storm, I hope you get some melting soon or the precip stops. We had an ice storm when my DD was 4 and the "camping out" got old quick. to you all.

Good morning WISH Team.

One month from today we are all going to be basking in the glory of our accomplishments and wearing our medals proudly. We will be talking smack about how we kicked that races butt. Most of us will be a little sore when we first get up but it will be ok because it will feel like victory.

We will be eating decadent stuff and drinking our favorite beverages, since we earned the change to kick back and enjoy. Most of us will about mile 22 or so swear that we will never do this again, but by this time next month most of us will be thinking about how it really wasn't bad and start thinking about getting our registration in before it closes.

Warriors this last month stay healthy and don't overdue, except for Howard the animal who is just starting to train, oh to be that young and invencible again. Most of the work is done so this last month is for easy miles and preparing for the fun of taper maddness.

I'm off to walk...

Have an awesome day team.

Oh Panda-

Your post came at just the right time! I am a little worn out from three days of running at faster than race pace and was only thinking about next weeks monster miles. So dreaming about that Post race feeling was the perfect way to start this morning! Thank you!

Our TNT team had a big fundraiser party last night. It was so much fun and they raised a bunch of money to boot. The funny part was how segregated the crowd was at the party. The runners were, of course, by the pasta buffet. We banished the smokers to the outdoors which really miffed them since it was sprinkling (yes, water from the sky! less than a 1/4 of an inch thought) One of the organizers said " I didn't really think about runners not wanting to be around smoke.." Yes, she's a new runner.

Question.....Has anyone run the Kentucky Derby Marathon or Half Marathon? I'm looking for a spring event and that one fits the calendar. Would love a review if anyone has experienced it. TIA!
Two of my friends ran it last year and loved it. You get a free ticket to the races Saturday night. Not the actual Derby, which is the following week, but still fun to watch. They said it was a beautiful course.

Good morning everyone!

It's been a work, run, sleep kind of week.

5 miles on Tue, Wed, and Thur. Feeling great.

Howard - Glad to see you back, you animal, you.

I'll try and catch up later.

:)

CONGRATULATIONS LYNN...DOES THIS MEAN A W.I.S.H. TEAM TRIP IS IN ORDER?:rotfl:

We've had over 2 feet of snow and it's still snowing:banana: I used my Yak Tracs, on Wed., for my walk and really enjoyed it. If DH and I don't go anywhere on Tues. I'm going to go for a long snow shoe walk. I love it this time of year because my walks are more challenging and fun and I love to walk while it's snowing!:)

Anyone else getting nervous about the marathon?:scared:

Morning!

Hope all those in the snow and ice stay warm. We have been going thru a weird warm spell where we had to turn on our A/C! It is supposed to get back to normal I think this weekend. I did get to run in my running skirt all this week which was nice. I would just like to have at least one small snow so the kids can see it. It has been years and I really don't think my youngest even remembers it. Don't know about global warming, but we always had at least one small snow every year in Atlanta, now it has been years... :confused3

I got 4 miles in this morning with an average pace of 11:07. My goal is to do my first half in March in 2:30 or less so I'm very concerned about keeping my pace under 11:30. DH thinks I can do it, but 13.1 miles seems so far to me right now. I just keep trying to tell myself it is like running two 10Ks.

I drove somewhere today to do my run. I just can't take the neighborhood anymore. I was a tad nervous being out there alone, but at some point I'm gonna have to be brave.

OK, hope everyone has a great weekend. I think I'm taking the girls to my parents' house, but I really should be doing holiday stuff! :santa:

Shan: After reading your post, I forgot my most exciting news. Our NB store was having a sale yesterday where if you donated 3 old pairs of sneaks you got 30% off any purchase so I went in with my smelly old shoes and guess what I found...a lime green running skirt!!!! I was so excited. NB now has skirts out in green, light blue, red, gray, black, orange and navy!! They have the compression shorts underneath and on the leg of the right side, there is even a little pocket. I have been reading the posts on the skirts and have been wanting to try one. My LR is on Saturday and I plan to don the skirt and hit the TM (because 15 is a little cold for a running skirt!!!)

So there, thanks, Shan for reminding me of my most excellent find!! :goodvibes

Morning folks - this is going to be the craziest weekend ever....

Tonight I have my 10 miler scheduled. I found a great route that is supposed to go past some of the best Christmas lights in town. Then on to my boyfriend's Christmas party...

Tomorrow is my 20 miler. I have a group to run half the distance with. Since the second half is going to be the toughest I'm going to get up super early, run 10 miles around my neighborhood, then meet up with the group to run the last 10 miles at 8:30 am... Finish up, go grocery shopping for Christmas dinner, then my boss's Christmas party Saturday night. Sunday I'm hosting Christmas dinner for my brother and sister-in-law. Wish me luck fitting it all in!

I hate winter. I really do. Almost four inches of wet, icy mess came down yesterday. Grrrr. Last year I could do every single L/R outside. This year, not so much. I haven't trained outside since 11/17 and it looks like tomorrow's L/R is on the TM again. Ugh.

I'm so happy to see Howard here! Yay! :yay:

YAY Lynn! How exciting! :woohoo: We've been talking about going and now we have an even better reason! A WISH meet!

I have an ice bath question. How long after you finish your L/R do you take an ice bath? And at what point do you think it's not worth doing anymore? For instance, if we do a L/R at the track, and I have to wait for Charlie to finish, then we drive home, it might be an hour or so before I can get in the tub. Is it still effective then? If I'm going to sit in a tub of icy water I want to make sure it's worth all the suffering! Also, do you take one if you have a L/R on the TM? I did 9 miles on the TM last weekend and didn't do it. I was a little sore later but I don't think I get as sore on the TM as I do on the road. One more question: How many miles do you go before you think it warrants an ice bath? I don't do it for anything less than 7 miles. I don't know why, I just don't.

OK that is all the questions for now. ;)

Judy - If it is cold outside when I'm running I don't bother with an ice bath otherwise I think I'm risking hypothermia. I've run 17 miles so far - cold enough outside (high 20s to low 30s) and no ice bath afterwards, and apart from being really tired I was just fine on the muscle soreness side of things.

Hey all... I had bootcamp last night and again she kicked our butts. She changes things up and that is really cool to keep things fresh. My knee was bugging me earlier in the week, but yesterday it was just fine. Tomorrow is a cut back week for my LR... so excited about that!!!

Judy - Here are my thoughts on an ice bath. Last year when I was training for the 1/2, I started taking them after every run that was 7 miles or more. Mostly because it was new mileage and I was a tad bit sore. I usually took the bath about 30 minutes to an hour after the run, just because that is how long it would take me to get home. And I usually ate something first. In January after the 1/2 I took an ice bath... I didn't take for the rest of the year until Marathon training started and I did my 14 miler. I just didn't feel like I needed one. Now I have taken one for every mileage over the 1/2 marathon mileage, because it is new miles and I was feeling sore after the run. For the 2 other marathons I did this summer, I didn't take any ice baths. Hope that helps, I think it is more how you feel than the mileage you do.

WOW, that was lengthy.

So, we haven't gotten much for snow, but we have had incredible COLD weather the last 2 weeks. It's so cold and iced over that I can't run outside. We don't get warm enough during the day to melt the junky ice and snow on the roads and paths. When I wake up, it is usually around 0 degrees Fareheit. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Cool Lisa! We have a New Balance store and I drove by it the other day and thought to myself I should stop. Rats! :lmao:

Let us know how it works on the TM. :thumbsup2

I got my new shoes today. They are like pillows. I don't want to train in them so that they are all soft and squishy for the marathon. The new color is white and orange. I will desperately miss my green ones, but hopefully the next new model will have green again!!

Shan - for it to snow in Atlanta there would hve to be two miracles. Precipitation and freezing temperatures. Considering it is 60 outside & not a cloud in the sky....... I am not holding my breath.

My goal is to do my first half in March in 2:30 or less so I'm very concerned about keeping my pace under 11:30.

Let me know if you want me to run the ING with you. Is DH running it too? Or if you would like to join me and my friends for some long runs on a Saturday or two.

I finish this season with TNT in January and I am not on the schedule with them for the next couple seasons. I am more than happy to have company.

Cecilia

Shan - It sounds like your running is going really well, so I know you are going to great at you half. You'll work up to the 13.1 with no problems. Training pace and race pace are two entirely different things. I ran most of my training runs around an 11:30 pace leading up to my first half, but my pace at the race was 10:32. It is amazing what adrenalin and race support can do to your pace. I know you'll do great!

Cecilia, that is so sweet of you! :goodvibes

DH is running, but he is gonna try to beat his time from last year. I don't necessarily have a problem with running by myself, I'm just nervous cause it is a distance I've never done before. It seems so daunting right now. I will do it, though! :thumbsup2

What pace do you and your friends usually run? I might take you up on a couple Saturday runs. I'd just have to get the girls over to my in-laws. I have set my program up for my LRs to be on Fridays cause they are in school and DH works Saturdays.

Do you have any fav spots you like to run? If so, I'd love for you to PM me. I know you're not really in my immediate area, but every time I'm out driving I'm looking for somewhere to run. :lmao:

Happy Friday!

Thank you all for the PD for Sean. We're still waiting for the fire departments insurance co to set up the appt with the hand specialist, but Sean's hand is improving. The swelling is starting to go down and he doesn't have any numbness or tingling so that is good.

Jen & Kristi - Nope, Sean won't be doing WDW with us this year. He said after last year that he would never do another half marathon, one was enough. But, a few times I've heard him mention other races so who knows, maybe I'll get him out there again. He liked the race....didn't like how much time it took from his social life to train. :lmao:

Went to the gym Wed night & did 10 miles on the recumbant bike. Didn't get any training in last night. Had to go to a friends daughters Chorus Concert. Training today doesn't look much better. We have a Christmas Party to go to tonight. I was hoping to squeeze something in before we go, but it's not looking too promising. Tomorrow morning we will do our 8 mile LR/W (Yay...for cut back weeks) & then go get our Christmas Tree before the bad weather hits.

Good luck to everyone doing those long run/walks this weekend!

Well, that is good to know! :goodvibes

Leana - you are right that race support and adrenelin does wonders for your race time - since all my race times have been way better then what I can manage in training. For some reason I tend to push myself harder during a race and always feel I am so far behind but then at the end I am usually pleased with the time. I definately do alot better in races then training time on the TM.

Karen - Sorry to hear about your son's accident - good news hearing that his hand is getting better. PD for continued healing.

All of you cursing winter are making me really jealous (and I probably am going to make ya'll jealous) but I can not stand this stupid 80 degree F weather we are having any longer. They say a "cool" front is supposed to be coming in by Sunday night but like the last one it probably will only be cool for one day then right back up to highs in the mid to low 80's. Its rediculous that we are still wearing shorts and tank tops in the middle of December. I am praying for that cold weather to come down here and stay (at least till after the marathon in Jan - see I am think of all of you who are doing the race and died in the heat last year - I am hoping for better temps)

Good news though is that I got my new shoes this afternoon. Stuck with the Asics Kayano. The guy at the store said that they were wearing the way that they should be but that they definately were worn out. The stripes are a different color but they feel the same on my feet as the old ones (well maybe a little better in cushioning since they are new) Can't wait to get off work (only 30 more mins now) so I can go test out the new shoes on the TM.
