Wk of Dec 2--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good morning team!! Happy Friday!!! :cool1: Have I said lately how much I love you guys? Seriously, I do, and I love that we are training for this marathon together. I remember last year before the Wish dinner I felt indifferent about meeting, I was glad to meet, but if we didn't make it, it wouldn't be the end of the world. This year is totally different, I am so excited to meet every one on Friday, cheer on those doing the half on Saturday, run with those doing the full on Sunday, and celebrate with every one on Monday. The difference? I think we have a real connection this year, we're all friends. We can get on here and bring our problems and fears and somebody has the answer and every one is supportive and encouraging. We can share our victories and disappointments. And we all know we can laugh and have fun together. I am so glad I have my Wish Team!!

Okay, mushy time over! Who wants to hear my dingbat story? I think I see a hand, so here goes...you know how I hurt my IT band on Saturday and I have had IT band issues in the past, so I already had an ITBS band for my knee. On Tuesday, about 5-6 minutes into my run, I realized that I forgot to get my ITBS band out of our running drawer (we have a drawer in our dresser that hold all of our running junk--Garmins, mp3 players, chargers, Body Glide, etc), so I stopped the treadmill and went upstairs to get my band. There was only one band in there, so I grabbed it and put it on. I thought it felt funny, I didn't remember there being a metal plate in the band and it was tiny!! I'm a fairly small person, I weigh 115lbs, so my legs are small, but I could hardly get the band around my leg--it was so tight! I got back on the treadmill and ran a couple more minutes and had to stop because I knew something was not right with this band. Back upstairs I went and searched the drawer, but I couldn't find anything else, so I finished my 3.5 miles with this band pinched around my lower thigh. I got off the treadmill, took the band off and I had marks on my leg because the band was so tight, but my IT band didn't hurt, so I didn't really question it, I did show Stephen the mark on my leg, but I don't really think he was paying attention. Fast forward to yesterday and my 4 mile run (by the way it was a good run, ran slower again, ave 11:26 miles, but zero pain) with my "ITBS band", again it was super tight and I had to stop 2 or 3 times to take it off and let my leg get some relief from the tightness. I thought to myself, how can I run for 5+ hours with this band on my leg when it's cutting off my circulation after 45 minutes? After my run, I went upstairs to change my clothes and I laid my band on the dresser. Later in the evening when Stephen and I were getting ready for bed, Stephen picks up my ITBS band and asks why I was running with that. I said "it's my band for ITBS", well Stephen started rolling on the floor, laughing and said "that's not an ITBS band, that's a band for runners knee--it goes BELOW your knee!!! here's your ITBS band" and he proceeds to dig my band out of a gym bag. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: That's why the other band was so tight!! It's made for a smaller part of the leg!!! I was so happy to see my correct ITBS band--big and stretchy!!!!! I swear my hair is not blonde! (Sorry Heather and all of the other blondes out there!)

Dave--How 'bout them Stillers???? Why couldn't they have played like that all year?? I truly think Ben is 100% now and that's the difference.

Vic--You are a riot! Why didn't you find us sooner??

Those must be some major granny pants. :rotfl2:

All right, the only workout I have gotten this week is:
cheering on my fellow WISH team members :cheer2:
celebrating everyone's great training sessions
WISHing everyone pixiedust: and :goodvibes:
and
:lmao: :rotfl:

No training last night except hustling from office to home to boy scouts to grocery store to boy scouts to unloading groceries to cooking for 2 hours. Thank God I only have to do 8 miles tomorrow. :thumbsup2

Christmas decorating tonight and grocery shopping again for a dinner guests Sunday. Up very early tomorrow to get to the Y and then working all day, then cooking for Sunday, then hopefully cleaning the fully-decorated house.

I'm so behind... I have been reading when I get a chance, but kept waiting to post until I had enough time to respond. Oh well.

I haven't ran or done any exercise since my 19 miles on Saturday. DS has been sick with a stomach bug and cough and congestion. I got the stomach bug from him and haven't been able to do much of anything. He now has bronchitis. It's been a rough week.

Amy-- I have everything you mentioned plus more :sad2: My pain has been excrutiating this week. I can't stay in bed long enough to get a full night's rest. I can't get dressed in the morning or brush my teeth without gasping. But just like you, it doesn't hurt when I run. In fact, this week has been a good experiment to help settle in my mind that running is not causing the pain. Here's :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for you!

But I have to be honest and admit that I really don't feel like I am properly trained for Goofy. I've ditched the idea of doing the full many times over these past few days and then tell myself, "well it doesn't hurt to show up at the start line and just try..." then I tell myself, "but you won't just try, you'll push no matter how you feel and that could spell trouble", then I tell myself, "wow, you are insane with all these conversations rumbling around inside your head". UGH. I'm so upset with myself for not bouncing back by this point. I really thought I'd have made more improvement since the summer trauma. I have no confidence and it's zapping the joy out of everything.

But I must say, reading about lime green nose hairs, zebra butts, batman nipples and commando tights has helped lighten my mood. It's nly going to get wierder from here...

Good morning all. T.G.I.F! :dumbo:

Brr! Holy Moly! :cold: There was a 40 degree drop between yesterday morning and this morning!

Today was a XT day so I just did 30 min @ 3.8 @ 1% then took the stationary bike for a spin. I was really really tired this morning. I worked outside, hauling very heavy wheelbarrow loads of wet disgusting hay last night. I'm glad I got it done though because this morning it would have been frozen. I think that counts as XT. Weight lifting at least!

OK, without getting too intimate here...I can not go commando. I'm in the wrong age bracket for that. You ladies may know what I mean. You guys....butt out. No pun intended. Let me just say the Danskin tights I am wearing are I think made for dancing. They are very very light. Not that I am anything like a dancer, but I just like the way they feel.

Krista and Steve - OMG you guys! :rotfl:

Cam - You're wearing a skirt? Hmmm...I may be too underdressed for this occasion. I must admit I have NO intention of wearing any makeup! :teeth:

Oh Vic - You're a character! I can tell! :lmao:

Mel - Who takes that interesting WISH Team photo? Charlie and I won't be bringing our camera to the Half. Who is that in the picture? Man, I better get more clearance clothes!

Kristi - Yes! Excellent idea! :thumbsup2 I plan on hitting Target as soon as the sales start.

Krista - Oh Krista! Ha ha ha! :rotfl2:

Do you think we scared The Nip Man away?? :confused3

PSA: One thing I learned from all our Bird Flu prep around here was that when you wash your hands....sing Happy Birthday and scrub your hands with soap for as long as it takes to sing that. Then rinse thoroughly. That is the proper way to remove germs. However, I can't recommend singing out loud unless it actually is your birthday or the birthday of someone who happens to be in the bathroom with you at the time. :teeth:

Hi Everyone!

Its a REST day for me!!!

Dh read MelR's article on the Monster month and so he now refers to any strangeness from me as Monster madness. He is gonna see a bunch of it tomorrow when I get home from my 20 mile run in the Freezing cold! Its supposed to be in the teens tomorrow with a windchill in the single digits. I am contemplating going to the store for more layers. But that requires leaving my house and I am resting. Gees rest days are hard.

ALL my tights are loose at the top so I wear undies with them. I can not imagine wearing form fitting pants where people could see me. That might hurt someone.
When I wear those tight thigh grabbing things (what do you call them?) under shorts, I sweat too much and it starts to look um, well, um, like I wet my pants. I guess my thighs just like to snuggle.

Ha, I'm here... although, I'm thinking DW really wouldn't be thrilled with the nipple-boy nickname. I'm lurking, but I've actually been pretty swamped at work this week.

Got my run in yesterday. 40 min on the treadmill at a 10 mpm pace. It felt pretty good. I had some soreness in my lower legs, but nothing too major. I actually think I'm getting stronger. I used to have to take a lot of Allieve when I got up in the morning and throughout the day, but I haven't been having to take it at all recently. And that's even with the 20 mile run last Saturday. This week I've alternated swogging and running, and my legs have been fine. I think it really helped that I flip-flopped the running and x-training days to give myself a full 48 hours from running the 20 miles and the next time I ran. My legs have been OK this week. I have a rest day today, and tomorrow I'm running a local 10k + I might do 2 miles to warmup so I get my full 8 in. I'm only going to do my LR pace though - 4R/1W. I don't want to hurt myself at this point by trying to race the 10k.

PD :wizard: :wizard: to all those hurting out there - Amy and Sunny come to mind in particular.

Krista- Yay Stillers!!! Not that I could see the game last night... rotten NFL Network. But I did have Willie Parker starting on my fantasy team :thumbsup2! Yeah, I'll take those 200+ yards and a TD in this playoff game for me. Yahoo!!! Plus, he got them against the dreaded Browns. I hate the Brownies... sorry Lily

OK, I really gotta work now.

 You know, Dave, you're right. I'm sorry about that. Blame the Taper.

Dave - me too. You shall no longer be refered to in that manner!! I can't blame the taper though, i think for me i just cant resist the humor and the mischief. pirate:

No, no, no apologies necessary. I didn't mean that as an admonishment. It was just a statement. No worries.

As far as the Commando discussion goes, let me say that I had been wearing some "running" undies/briefs under my shorts and tights, but I was getting some, ummm, errr, uncomfortable chafing issues. I will say those chafing issues went away when I stopped wearing the undies. I think they get too damp and don't dry out. I was always worried that the briefs in the running shorts wouldn't provide enough support, but I was wrong.

Hey hey hey there. How 'bout them Browns! :rotfl2: So, what's there to hate these days. They show up and make most teams look good!
:confused3
So, I'm here thinking that taking the various forms of asprin might make me feel better. I have now added a back issue to my knee thingy.

Ok Dave, I guess maybe we need to find you another nickname huh? Hmmm must think on it some.

Cam, sorry about those time stealing issues you've got going on. Sheesh, you'd think work/home/Mom/Wife/holidays...would slow some. You're training! Do what you can. You'll make it.

Judy, I heard that about the birthday song. Now every time (lots) I gotta wash up I can't get that darn song out of my head. :rolleyes1

Thanks about the after holiday sales idea for warm blankies to toss. Great idea, I may have to seek out stuff for layering too. I'll wait til after holidays to check my stuff first. If not hoping our Goodwill or other stores should have something maybe.

Sunny, glad you checked in. Sorry you are so up and down over it all.

Sara, welcome back. I hope you'll get to join in more too.

Commando, now the saying "Boxers or Briefs" will never have the same meaning.

Good morning everyone!

Hoping everyone is having a wonderful TGIF.

I've been able to get in two 4 mile runs on the TM, Wednesday and Thursday, after work. Ankle is feeling pretty good. Still swells a little, but nothing we can't handle.

I have an 8 miler scheduled for Sunday. Not sure if it will be on the TM or outside. Depends on how much of a girly-man I am.

Glad to see most everyone is doing well with their training. Keep it up. :thumbsup2

For those hurting, good thoughts are enroute from Niceville. :)

Y'all take care. :wave2:

Judy , Dh is a KOOK (Keeper of Odd Knowledge) and came home with that bit of info..only his was to sing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star". He'll be so glad to hear that it has spread to the boards, though! OF COURSE moving wet hay counts as cross training..DUH!! :goodvibes
Sunny , so glad you checked in. Do you think the cold weather and lack of sleep is contributing to the joint pain? We really do understand how frustrating all of this is for you. To go from a healthy runner to being in debilitating pain is mentally just as tough as physically. Your IC is still working, though! You come rant any time!! That's what team mates are for..the good, the bad, the ugly.
Carrie Hope once your hip thaws, it feels better!! Krista suggested Vic dye his nose hairs on page 16.
Cam and Howard , NO LADDERS as Steve says..when decorating the house.
Lily , That's one of my favorite WISH pictures!! :rotfl: We're changing your nickname from Dogcatcher to Fashion Model!!

We'll get to experience a cold start tomorrow for our six miler as North Florida will be in 30's by 10 am. We're supposed to hit 16 tonight!! :cold: Cecilia, bundle up for that run!

Hi Guys...OMG :rotfl2: the past few pages have been very very funny!

Carrie: Hope that hip feels better :grouphug: . I'm glad you're listening to your body and resting as needed!

Dave: Sounds like training is going well! Glad to hear you aren't in too much pain these days. Definitely a good sign!!!

Sunny: :grouphug: Your pain sounds awful. I feel bad complaining knowing all that you've been through. Unfortunately for me it hurts when I walk/run but it doesn't hurt when I'm not active. I guess that in the big scheme of things...I should be thankful for that! My doctors have told me no running until the pain is gone...b/c it is a nerve pain meaning there's compression there and I can do damage to it if I push through it (not that i have the capacity to do that anyway). But back to you....I really have been thinking about you often and hope that you are feeling much better when you read this!!!

Krista: :cheer2: :woohoo: Great job...so glad your knee is feeling better. I don't know how you managed to run with that tight band around your thigh!! OUCH!!!!!!!!

So for me....the pain is NOT as bad :). I have been doing pilates and yoga all week. I even did 30 minutes of cardio yesterday :teeth: . I think all the doctors/PT/etc have helped me :). I still can't run but walking is NOT painful!!! :woohoo:

Amy - That's a step in the right direction!! :wizard:

Anne - Thanks for the lime nose hair info. Now that you say it, it does sound fammiliar. Just too much to keep up with these days! :rotfl2:
