Wk of Aug 27--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Hey! Real quck post about LR! It was WONDERFUL! The Guys did 9 and I did 10. We ave around 10 MPM...We ran together for most of the time and I added on here and there so I could stay with them. I felt great and my heart burn did not act up as bad. I tried to keep it slow so I would not rehurt my foot.
I also had a Dr. Appointment and got some nexium (SP??) :cool1: So that should help!

Oh, Look at this site...
Funny running Quotes

Here are some pic for after the run.

Jen, great pictures of DL and the princess, thanks for sharing.

Christa, great pictures of hubby and bil...looks like you guys had fun.

Hi WISH Team!

Wow! I don't think I will be able to get to everything since my last post.

Sunny, I took you with me yesterday as I was on the trail. Thanks for being there. I was out for about 50 minutes with warm up/cool down.

Oh and thanks for the pics! Love them. And,
thanks for the links, gotta go shopping and can't stop laughing. I see so much I can relate to on the funny thread. I don't even necessarily consider myself the type of "athlete" that these were, but I'm there nonetheless!

Yay! for classes finishing/starting.

Gotta go, have Friday Night Date Night at Starbucks lined up. Gotta be on the trail at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Don't think I've posted since the chat, and hope my blue bold type didn't dominate the conversation too much... :rolleyes1

Yesterday was a hard hill workout for me, there's a bridge nearby that's a half mile long, so it's a quarter mile hill or so up something like 80 feet then back down the other side a quarter mile. Decided to do 1 mile sets, across to the far side and back as 1 set with a minute or two break in between. Was hoping to maintain 9:10 pace or so which is my half marathon goal pace, although I expected the hills to make it tougher. My splits were 9:03, 8:48, 8:33, 8:07!!! Negative splits on a hill workout? What in the dilly?

Tomorrow is a short 2 miler easy day for the DW and I and then Monday is the Labor Day race we're running, a 10k up in Atlanta. I put it into gmaps, and if you look at the course:

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=387703

you'll see why I thought a hill workout might be helpful... It's also her first 10k EVVVVER, and she's never run more than 4.5, what a course to start on! Did I mention there are no turns whatsover? Boooooring...

We'll be up there for the weekend, keep up the great work all, DL is soooo clooooooose...

Matt-Good luck to you & DW!! Awesome neg. splits too :thumbsup2

Colleen-basically on core you eat as much as you need to feel satisfied (goal is to not eat till stuffed, just satisfied) Ex. of types of foods: all fruits & veggies, whole wheat pasta, potatoes, lean meat, ff dairy. One night this week I had roast in the crock pot & seasoned potatoes. It was totally OP & the best dinner I've made in along time. You also get 35 pts to use thru the week for items you want that arent on the list (sandwich bread, treats) It gets you away from the processed, "fake" foods. I was using too many points on baked lays, 100 calorie packs (diet junk food I call it) and this is a much healthier way of eating. We'll see what week 2 brings.....

Krista-the house is definately much quieter during the day. You would think it would be spotless, but :confused3 I spent all day, yes all 7 hrs at the school yesterday working in DS8 class. They are just now allowing volunteers in the school & his teacher (who is a WDW fanatic & DVC owner) had alot for me to do so I just spent the day, ate lunch with them. It was fun but tiring. Hope you get some cute new shoes that work for your feet!

Minnie- :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Jen-Is it weird that I got choked up & teary when I saw the first pic of the train station? Thanks for the pics, 12 days till I see it with my very own eyes!!!

Christa-I loved all those sayings!!!!!! Great pic too, and yes you can tell they are related :)

MelR-GET A NEW HELMET!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!!!

Since I started "training", I have been having terrible leg cramps in the middle of the night...so bad that they wake me up, and sometimes I can barely stand up...any ideas on why this started, and, more importantly, how to stop it???? TIA

Pungodingy- I'm not sure about the cramps. Are you strectching after training? Maybe you need to drink more electrolytes and strecth b/4 bed.

I bought a new helmet. It is the same one i had b/4 but this time it is very light lilac w/ some faint flowers on it.!!! It is very pretty and I know that model works b/c obviously i tested it.

I seriously am kicking your butt. I'm sitting in my house on a perfect running day, it's also the kids first day back to school. I'd give absolutely anything to be able to go out there and run... So you better get out there and run for me!

Back to you, Speedy and others stuck in slug mode. I don't want to sound preachy, but you just don't know what a treasure it is to be able to strap on the shoes and go out and run... don't take it for GRANITE

And THIS is what got me out the door. Thank you for the perverbial "slap across the face. (And it wasn't a soft one... it was one of those Joan collins/Dynasty/Falcon Crest sort of things... ) I needed to remember that for all the reasons why I do this--- the main reason is that I do it because I can. And I honestly thank you for that.

I'm so sorry that things are still so confusing with your prognosis. I can't imagine how frustrating this whole experience must be for you right now. :grouphug:

Carrie-- Enjoy Mackinac!! (And Alsaka if you don't get to check in before then!)

Judy-- Yeah, that call would totally have gone to voicemail. ;) But thanks for the psychic wake-up! :thumbsup2

Jen-- Great pics! I hope to get out there to DL some day.

Cam-- Great job!! Sounds like you're ready for DL!

Terri-- Congrats on going back to school. I'm in the process of (finally) finishing my degree... so I understand what the whole "going back to school" thing is like. I appreciate the whole experience so much more than when I was younger... although I would like to be done NOW as opposed to 20 months from now.

Pungo-- Are you getting enough water? Stretching well after your workouts? Those are the only things I can think of that could be the cause of severe cramping/pain. :confused3 Sorry I can't be of more help.

So, I hit the treadmill on Tuesday (no chance to get outside) and then Wednesday I decided to try something a little different... I just went for a run. No watch, no Garmin-- just to get my legs under me. I was out of 33 minutes (MfM scheduled for 35, so very close) and I felt fairly good. Whew.

Thursday was ju-jitsu class as cross training (Oof) and I was all set for my back to back Friday/Saturday........ well...

Yesterday's three-miler was surreal. 3/2 intervals and I started out a little fast. Way too fast, I thought. Well, when all was said and done: 3.00 miles in 25:53 (8:38/mile ) :faint:  Easily a PR for 3 miles. How in the WORLD did I do that? :confused3 I didn't feel bad afterwards and I don't feel bad or sore thing morning. I'll blame it on my new-ish WISH socks (fab, by the way). :teeth:

6 miles after work today! (Which I am looking forward to!.... for once!)
Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

Christa - Congrats on the LR without the heartburn. I can't even imagine.

Well, I got out there at 6:30am to get my LR in today. There wasn't even any sun yet, which wasn't all a bad thing. I kind of liked running in the dark!! Anway, I did 10 miles today (since I screwed up my schedule) and it wasn't half bad. At 9.5 miles I stopped (completely, no walking, just stopped) and thought there for a minute that I wouldn't be able to get my legs going again. I mean I tried... I'd count 1.....2.....3..............NOTHING!! Then I thought about Sunny and did my counting again and forced myself to move. Note to self, don't EVER do that again!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend. I am having 14 people over to my house today for a family get together. So.... I have to run.

Take Care,
Dana

Well, Ernesto and his rains made a LR through the soggy mess seam so unappealing, SO I went to the Y instead. I did 12 miles on the TM. I hate wussing out on the outdoor run, and if I HAD to run in the rain, I would, but I don't have to, at least not just yet. Anyway, I got my LR in.

My first 1/2M is in 5 weeks. I've registered to get at least one under my belt prior to the WDW 1/2M. I feel that I'm ready. Question: since I'm already running 11 or 12 miles for a LR on weekends, how important is the taper for a 1/2M?

Drive-by post before I head to bed to sleep of my migraine meds...

I did a practice tri today with a friend. We did everything just like we will next week and it went pretty well. All of a sudden the weather here is nice and cool - which is awesome! I just don't want it TOO cool as we have to swim in a lake! The bike route we rode was super hilly - we are starting out and my friend says - my kids call this the roller coaster road! :faint:  Yep - a great description. The good news is that the course isn't that hilly. I did have to walk the bike up two hills... The "run" ended up being a fast walk, but we got to talk so it was okay. I will be able to push it more next week.

But, the bottom line is that I got through it all today, so I can do it next week! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I wore my WISH team shirt and bracelet. :cheer2: I know it helped.

Denny - I agree with you. If I HAVE to run in the rain, I will, but I don't have to during training. Don't want to chance any falls or catching cold before the DL 1/2.

I did a combo of elliptical and bike last night and did the elliptical again this morning. They're saying the rain should be done by tomorrow, so either tomorrow or Monday, I'll get my last LR in before tapering.

Terri

Thanks, Denny for asking that question. I am no where near as conditioned as you are, but I have a similar question for our resident "pros."

Waaaaay back, we had this discussion about how the training programs don't go the whole length of whichever one you are training for (1/2 or full), but that some of us felt like we realllllllly needed to do that distance before the real thing. I'm doing the half using MFM, and I am one those; so I went over to the marathon WALKING schedule just to see....After doing a LW of 10 miles, the next weekend it goes to 12, followed by a "rest" LW of 6 and then a LW of 14. I thought that would be perfect for these last 3 weeks, with the 14 being the DL 1/2. I am really nervous about going from 10 to 13.1.

DH has tried to show me that it's the conditioning and we'll be OK. Our bodies will be rested and ready to tackle this 13.1. I did my 8 miles today, though I really, really wanted to do 12!!! Please reassure this former couch potato-non-previous-athlete-of-any-kind! :o Anne

Hi Everyone!

I did a long run of 6.5 miles today. These long runs really are getting easier! I am now running 25 miles a week. Who would have thought I would ever do that!

I am actually excited about running longer and longer distances. Who is this person in my body?

I hope everyone had a great day!

Matt-

That Atlanta 10K is ALL uphill. Seriously, I am not sure how they managed it since you don't end up on a mountain, it is one long climb. Most runners around here have only done it once.

Good news though, a few of the TNT participants here are running it and based on the training I have seen them do, they will be out there a long long time. They are planning to run/walk the race and have never gone more than 4 miles.

I can't wait to hear how it goes. As for me, Monday is a rest day!
Good Luck!

Cecilia

Anne, I am a long, long, way from being a "pro", but I can tell you about my experience. In Jan 2005 I started training-to-train. I began as a 50 yr old couch potato. At the 14 wk mark I used MFM training plan for walking a half marathon. I followed the program religiously. The WDW half Jan 2006 was my first event of any kind ever. I have a beautiful Donald medal for my efforts. It can be done! You WILL be fine. John Bingham's program has helped countless people be successful. Just relax and enjoy!!
