Wk Of Aug 19 - WISH Walking/Running Club

So, I posted my LR on the walking site thinking I was here.....oh well! I got 16 miles in today (((my longest yet!)))) It went really well! I felt good, and ran the whole thing except for a BR break and 2 phone calls. I didn't get that side stitch again like last week, and everything seemed to hold up well. I am really happy with it overall! Next week will be 18!

Dave: Good job on the weight loss! I think I am down 2 this week, and I am happy with that! I did endulge in tuna fish yesterday, in your honor!

Beth

Beth thank you for the Tuna in my honor. Good run, you are already at 16 miles, you are awesome.:cheer2:

Has this happened to you: Being people who exercise we are often the captive of people who are compelled to tell us their take on dieting. I had a patient the other day who had it all figured out. You can only store fat if you eat fat. Because according to him your body can't store protiens and carbs in the fat cells, it has to be fat. So you could eat all the sugared stuff you want because your body can't put it in the fat cells, so you won't gain weight. He acctually believed this. He was a bit on the round side to by the way.

I had a rest day today, what a concept.

Dave:hippie:

Nothing to report, except a fun weekend camping up north.
And since I apparently enjoy making a fool of myself:

Leana - Avery is beautiful!

Speaking of babies....my SIL who was TWO WEEKS OVERDUE :scared: gave birth to Luke on Wednesday evening last week. 9 lbs. 13 oz.!
:darth: :yoda: :chewy:

LukeEmailSize-1.jpg

Tomrrow is my "back-on-track" day!
I will catch up with last week's thread, and this one, tomorrow at work.

Hey everyone, guess where I am!!! Oh wait, you already know!!! So it's really HOT in WDW right now, but there has been a nice breeze so we are surviving. No sunburns on us yet! The walking is going well so far. I have my good shoes with orthotics and they are lifesavers!!.

So here is what happened. I got all the stuff packed without the girls knowing. We took the plane to Ohio and the whole way DD4 was upset and wanted to go home. We get to Ohio and walk through the airport... tantrum by both kids, they were tired. I pulled them aside and told them I lied and we are going to WDW. DD6 got all upset and said...NO we aren't. I tried to convince her, gave her a HS Musical shirt, and she was still mad. Oh, then I got the lecture about how lying is a bad thing. So I changed my story and told her I had a secret, then she was OK with it. I seriously think she was super happy, but DD6 needs consistancy and I threw her out of wack. It was cute none the less and I would still like to suprise the girls, I just think I need to do it differently. We have the whole thing on video, her getting mad and all!!!!

I am going to journal my trip this time so I can do a real trip report, in detail. I am a little excited about that. The girls are tired and hot, so we are taking things really slowly. It's really nice to finally relax.

Leana - CONGRATS on being an aunt. I love little babies.

Mel - I hear you on the foot. My is doing pretty good. My fear is that when I start training again it will really hurt. I may be doing a lot of indoor running on the 12 laps per mile track... GACK!!! But the good thing is that the impact won't be so intense on my foot. Thanks about the skirt. Do you like it??? I see a lot of people here wearing sport skirts and I keep checking them out (the skirts, not the people).

Speaking of people at WDW.... It never ceases to amaze me how my yucky flesh I see... well, now it's sweaty yucky flesh.

Kristi - CUTE pic!!!!! Is that going to be a Christmas card pic????

OK, DH needs his laptop. I will see if I can check in later. I love you guys, thanks for all the smiles!

Greetings Team.

Guess what? I've got another week of training to report.

Monday: 1.55 miles at approximately 19 minutes per mile.

Wednesday: 1.55 miles at approximately 18 minutes per mile.

Friday: 1.75 miles at approximately 18 minutes per mile.

Today: 2.2 miles at approimately 19 minutes per mile.

I felt pretty good during the second half of today's walk and felt that I could have continued. It did, however, take some time at the beginning to get into a groove. Being fairly new to this stuff, I am planning on staying around 2.25 miles for most of this week and maybe actually trying a LSD walk next weekend.

Yesterday and today I also got in some XT -- driveway hockey with DS6. Based on my back's reaction overall, I think it may be time to replace the Little Tykes equipment with some newer stuff -- primarilly longer sticks (or at least one longer stick for me).

*Leana and Kristi* Congrats on aunt-hood.

*Stephanie, Kathy and all those new* Welcome. I am new to distance events and have found the people here to be a great source of encouragement and advice.

*Angie, Vic, Sunny, her Royal Highness of YARCdom and all those recovering from or dealing with injuries, surgeries and/or other ailments* Congrats on overcoming and keepin' on. I feel your pain.

*Bill* Congrats on the 5K (and I think all weekends are too short).

Have a great Monday everyone.

Holy mackerel there are some great long runs gettin punched out across the country courtesy of the WISH team! Seems like every other post is 8, 10, 12, 13, 18 miles?!? And this is only August?!? Don't most of the plans for DW start in August with a 4 mile LR? :rotfl:

Tried to hammer out a fast paced 4 miler yesterday at 9mpm and ended up with 8:53, 9:09, 9:35 before I serious considered packing it in. It was noon, it was hot, I was drenched, and I got halfway up the driveway before I thought about all of you suffering just as badly as I and still getting your steps in. So out I went for a 4th one mile loop at a slow consistent jog of 11:15. Definitely wasn't the 4 mile tempo I was going for but I've been really jacking up the mileage since I got back trying to get set for DL.

Today was 9 miles, and my ever loving DW drove the whole way with me! :flower3: It was around 10pm (learned my lesson the day before) although that still meant heat index of 90+ with 70% humidity. Having a car to run to every few hundred yards sure made the time fly though. Initially was right at 10mpm for the first half, faded to around 10:30 for miles 6-7, picked it up and managed another 10:00 for 8, and then slogged my soaked through shoes home in 10:30 for the 9th. Average was around 10:10, which wasn't too bad, but at this time last year I was closer to 9:30 which allowed me to try for 9:10mpm (sub two hours) at DL.

Still hoping to break 2:00:00 at DL, but I guess beating 2:05:59 from last year would be just as good. Then again a PR would be great. :rolleyes1

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

Rest day for me yesterday so no training to report. Cool Aunt was here over the weekend, and we took the family down to Ithaca, NY to visit with Great-Grandma (DW's Grandma). She's 99 and will be 100 next May. She is doing amazingly well, and is quite the inspiration.

As far as coffee goes, yup I can't give up my morning cup o' joe either :surfweb:. In fact, I also recently read a study where caffeine plus exercise protects against skin cancer. Exercise protects against skin cancer, but the protective effects were greater for subjects who had caffeine. I thought that was interesting.

Mel- Glad your foot is feeling better.

Angie- Congrats on getting through your 7 miles. You got the steps in, and that's what counts.

Kim- Best WISHes on life getting back to normal.

Stephanie- Wow, impressive 12 miler. Those splits are amazing. You da WO-man.

Kiena- Great to hear from you again. Good job on the 13 miler!

Vic- Good job on the 3.5 mile TM run. Glad the foot is holding up for you.

Leana- Congrats on becoming an Aunt. Really nice job on the 10 mile run.

Sunny- Great to hear from you. How's everything going with your spinal treatments. WISHing you well!

Lily- Hmmm, sounds like you might still be recovering from the CDC. Good job gettin gout there and getting your steps in though.

Susie- Really nice job on the bike ride. It sounds like fun.

Jackie- Wow, you had pancakes waiting for you at the end of your 10 mile LR! That's awesome! I WISH I could find a running group like that.

Bill- Nice job on your 5K PR. WTG! I know what you mean about the fast runners. I'm all excited about my cross-country race times, and then I find out I'm next to last in my age group. That's OK, I'm only competing against myself, right? Next week I'll be in your neck of the woods. We depart on our cruise from Port Canaveral. We're on the Royal Carribean Sovereign of the Seas to the Bahamas.

Beth- Congrats on the 16 mile LR yesterday. WTG!

Kristi- That picture is a riot!!! :lmao: Hope you're having fun camping.

Jen- Great to hear from you from WDW. Too funny about the girls being mad about the surprise trip to WDW. Have a great time, and take it easy with the heat.

nepatsfan74- Great job on the training this past week.

Matt- Congrats on your 9 mile LR and your 4 mile tempo run. How great that your DW paced you with the car. What a nice way to run together. The DL 1/2 is coming up fast. Are you in taper mode now?

A somewhat exiciting week for me. I ran a great LR on Saturday in Philly. I ran 10 miles in 88 minutes. I think that was my first sub-9:00 run ever so it was pretty exiciting. The weather had a lot to do with it. It was 70 degrees with little humidity when I ran. The other major factor was almost no pain in feet or legs which was nice. I tried to focus on my posture and breathing a lot more and it seemed to help.

My family and I leave for WDW on Sunday for 9 days!!! Of course I will do a 15-mile long run the day before I leave so the first day will be a little tough on the legs but I'll make it.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions for where to run while staying at All Star Music?? I have heard there is a path from ASM to Coronado Springs Resort. Is that true? If so, how long is it?

Ok, I am trying to catch up. I read everything, but I know I probably missed some of you - sorry!

Judy – I know what I could do for 4 days…SLEEP!!! :lmao:

Moonie – I hope you knocked ‘em dead in FL at that wedding!

Leana
– you absolutely wear me out with your workouts. And I am so jealous of your travel plans!

Kevin – sorry you are down lately.

Vic – great job helping out with that accident. And thank God that driver is going to be ok!

disneyluv - :welcome:

Howard
– fabulous job on your 5k! :woohoo:

Jen – I hope you guys are having a blast at WDW – you deserve a break! I know what you mean about ‘living a bad tv series life.’ I felt the same way when I was going through my nasty, nasty divorce and dealing with his psychotic family. :sad2: Hang in there!

Cam – great job on your 5k – you beat last year’s time! Love the pic too. :thumbsup2

Rachael – is that the Minna Lessig DVD you were talking about? I really like it also. Now if I could just use it more often... ;)

Dana – fabulous LR!

Shan – Happy Birthday!

Stephanie – congrats on the health club job! Sometimes job with perks are the best. That's why I stayed as a CM for so long at the Disney Store, ya know. ;)

SWDave – fabulous job on your 16 miler!

lourodrigis - 10 miles in 88 mins.? AMAZING!!!

Other things -
I refuse to give up my diet coke addiction!
LOVE Reebok's new campaign - will have to check out their gear.
You all have me interested in this "Pump" thing. I did a Body Sculpting class many year ago & it worked wonders. I really need some 'wonders.' :lmao:

ToT training starts today! Zack's last swim class is tonight, so I will w/o either before or after that and put him in the KidStop during that time. Today is supposed to be a 2 mile walk/run, but I will do 3 miles since that seems to be my minimum & what I have been doing lately.

I got in 7 miles yesterday, my first time going that far...I had decided to go the distance and not worry about my pace, and I had my best time yet, go figure! Minor leg pain, mostly just sore from not being used to going that far I think, no blisters, think I got that issue straightened out. Felt pretty good, then came here and saw that EVERYONE kicked it up! Oh well...

Have a great day all!

I haven't had time to catch up with everyone individually so I better get in early this week to get a head start!

Krisit - Luke is adorable! Congratulations! I thought Avery was a big baby at 8.5 lbs, but over 9 lbs? Wow..! I love Reebok's new campaign too. I picked up a t-shirt at the Reebok outlet in Orlando, but I can't find anything up here. I'll have to look at the Reebok outlet in Seattle when I go in a couple of weeks to see if I can pick anything else up.
Bill - That sounds like a fun race! Congrats on your PR.
Jen - I hope you are having a WONDERFUL vacation in FL with your family. It sounds like you guys could really use the break!
Matt - Way to go on getting your runs in. It sounds like you are doing well. I'm sure you will be back up to the pace you are hoping for in no time.
MSDave - I was thinking that your cruise must be coming up soon. I hope you guys have a fabulous time!
lourodrigis - Congrats on your amazing 10 miles. Have a great time in Disney World. You can find trail maps here as a start http://www.disneyrunning.com/wdwtrails.html
Angie - Way to go on your 7 miler!

Just a drive by as I get ready to go camping!

Leana - your niece is beautiful, congratulations, as a great-aunt I know how wonderful niece's and nephews are. Congrats!

Kristi - Love the picture. I use to live in Lincoln, NH and I worked on Loon Mountain. Are you familiar with the area?

Well heading out to the moutains for a few days of camping & hiking... hope I don't run it a bear.

Greetings, WISH teammates! I'm finally back from my trip home to Florida and trying still to catch up with everyone's posts. The wedding was really great, and seeing all my high school/college friends and their parents was a real trip - everyone was totally shocked to see the way I look now :D Thanks everybody here for asking after me :cutie:

Before I left on Thursday, I managed to work in a 3 mile TM run in the morning (10:42 pace), and I went out Friday morning down there for about 7.5 miles. My time was closer to an 11:20-ish avg pace, which I attribute to the sun being pretty relentless and me having to deal with a few hills that I don't normally encounter on my runs here, so it was definitely good to get in a little training under different conditions than I'm used to, so I can get an idea of how my run can be affected by different things. Saturday I took off for the wedding, and Sunday I took off to recover from the wedding party Saturday night :rotfl: (I do not know how I ended up having 5 tequila shots. That was not my plan :confused3 ).

One thing pretty interesting to me was that a lot more people seemed to be friendly down in FL, waving and saying hello to me while I was out running, compared to the people up here in NC. I guess part of it might be their ages - I was seeing a lot of older folks there, whereas here it's more young people from the college and all. More self-absorbed, maybe? Anyway, it was a nice change of pace, getting so many smiles :)

The break was fun, but I'm glad to be back and getting back on track - I feel almost like I need a vacation from my vacation! Hope to catch up with all the posts soon - I loved seeing everyone's family and baby picture posts! Congrats to all the new aunts/uncles/other relatives!

Good morning, everyone! I will NEVER catch up and I imagine I won't get to visit here much over the next couple weeks, so just popping in to say "hi!"

Leana -- Avery is gorgeous! Congratulations!

Kristi -- Luke is a cutie! I hope he isn't late for everything the rest of his life. What a fun picture of you guys! :lmao:

Great miles, everyone! I cannot believe the distances and times people are putting in. How impressive! :thumbsup2

Stephanie et al. -- I am sooo with you guys on the coffee thing. Hey, I only had 10 oz this morning. Maybe that is why I am dragging!

Jen - funny story about the "surprise" vs. "secret". Have a great time!

Okay, life and work are totally taking over PLUS our fitness center at the Y is closed for the week. I had time yesterday for 50 minutes on the TM (3.43 miles with a good book & great music) and 30 minute walks with my dog Saturday and yesterday. Back to doing the 100 crunches & push-ups every day, too. Not very motivated right now, so I am reading here and getting inspired (during the work day, for all the good that does me! ;) ).

Okay, back to work. Working 6.5 hours on Saturday helped with all that has to get done today but it is still going to be a long, task-packed day. UGH!

Welcome back moon, sounds like a fun trip. The shots will be good training for the relaxing after marathon party at the Pleasure Island.:dance3:

I did a nice, hot, humid and windy 4 miles on the hills. I planned on more but I was hot and ready to stop.

DAve:hippie:

Good morning everyone!!

Now that DH--Calcio--is back to help with running our house, I'm able (I think) to spend more time on the boards than I have been.

I officially started the Hal Higdon marathon training this past week. My LR was 6 miles on Saturday and it wasn't the best but not too bad. I intended to run 66 minutes that would make it 6 miles but I mis-calculated and ended up running 68 minutes instead. I definitely did 6 miles! My 3 miles run yesterday seemed much easier and I ran it in 30:37 which is flying for me!!

Leana: wonderful picture and congrats on being an aunt (maybe again?).

Kristi: LOVED the goofy picture!!

Cam: survive the day!

Monica: have fun camping and hiking! You'll soon be getting snow so enjoy it now!

Jenn: what a great thing to surprise your children!! I love the part where you've video taped their reaction. Save that for blackmail sometime--show it at her wedding reception or something equally as bad!

nepatsfan: great job on the workouts!! Keep it up--you are doing great!

Matt: so good to see you on the boards again! When did you get back or are you just back temporarily? Will you be ToT?

WOW!! So many people either in WDW or just back. Hope it isn't too hot!

Great to hear from everyone! Have a wonderful day.

Hello, WISHers!

Well I was very good and went for a run while at DD's soccer tournament this weekend. DH and I got up early and crept out of the hotel and found a nice road to run on. It was about an hour run and felt good, even though it was very hilly! (By the way, DD's team came in second.)

Today I was scheduled for a 45 minute run. I didn't get out until almost 9:00, when it was getting pretty warm. It was a real STONKER! I was overheated and underhydrated the whole way. I ended up stopping at 41 minutes b/c I felt I was on my way to dehydration with goosebumps all over. Oh well, tomorrow is another day!

Mel - I have looked at the RW Smart Coach but never used it. I stick with a modified Bingham.

Stephanie - WTG on the 12 miler! That's why I need to get up earlier!

Kathy and Steffanie - Welcome!

WWDave - I'm gonna hold you to that promise of a cool down coming soon!

Angie - WTG on the 7 miler!

Kim - Sounds like your family reunion was great! My youngest sister is 8 years older than me...

Kiena - WTG on the 13 miler! That's a half marathon right there!

Vic - Glad those inserts are working for you!

Dana - I am not training with walk breaks this year b/c I felt I did get psychologically addicted to them last year. I know just what you mean.

Leana - Congrats, Auntie! What a cute baby!

Sunny - Nice to see you popping in! Hope the back pain is okay.

Lily - I share the pain of your stonker!

Susie - Glad you survived "10 mile" bike ride with DH!

Jackie - I have never run at Umstead; I'm not a big trail person. I'm always afraid I'm going to twist an ankle. Are they pretty smooth?

Bill - Great job with the 5K pr!

Beth - WTG with a 16 miler!

Kristi - I am so jealous of your family in sweatshirts!!!

Jen - Hope you're finding the magic at WDW!

PatsBill - Looks like a good week for workouts! Keep it up!

Matt - I laughed with your DW driving along for your 9 miler. I wonder if DH would do that for me?

MSDave - My grandma is 103 and pretty sharp -- still has her sense of humor!

Lou - 70 degreses and low humidity sounds great!

Angie - I think I run better when I'm not so concerned about pace, which I worry about all the time!

Monte - Have fun camping!

moon - Welcome home! Funny you found FL people more friendly than NC. I have found that running in OH and CA people pretty much ignore me but at home in NC everyone smiles and speaks.

Cam - You're inspiring me with your 100 crunches/push-ups a day. I need to get on that.

Martha - WTG with the 6 miler!

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

Leana, Avery is beautiful! Congrats on being an aunt!

Kristi, Luke is a cutie and big, too!

Looks like I'm in a recovery week in my program. I had to run 30 minutes this morning. Did 3 miles with an average pace of 10:05. Pretty good for me. It is still hot as ever here in Atlanta. Very hot.

I finally ordered my Garmin!!! :woohoo:
It hasn't come yet, but I got the Forerunner 205 from Amazon for $157.87 with free shipping so I thought that was a good deal? I had gotten some money for my birthday so I went ahead and ordered it. :yay:

I can't wait to compare it to my Nike+ and see how far off I've been.

Hope everyone has a good day! :goodvibes

Hello Team,

Just popping in to say "hi". I was in WDW all last week so I totally missed that week's entire thread. I brought my Garmin, but didn't do any actual training although I got LOTS of mileage in the parks. I had the course map in my mind and every time I was on one of the busses, I kept thinking....I'm gonna have to walk this in January......kinda scary when you see it up close.

Moon: where in NC do you live? I'm in the Raleigh area. I'll have to take Jackie's suggestion and check out Umstead Park. I live in a very large planned community with lots and lots of hilly roads so I really don't have to take to the regular streets. Occasionally I'll do the Shelley lake route, but it's only 2 miles and going around multiple times gets boring.

Shan: that sounds like a great deal on the Garmin 205. I ordered mine from Amazon several weeks ago and paid $162 and change (also included shipping) My neighbor told me THAT was a great deal. I wonder if they are coming out with a newer model and want to clear out the old stock?

Saturday I took off for the wedding, and Sunday I took off to recover from the wedding party Saturday night :rotfl: (I do not know how I ended up having 5 tequila shots. That was not my plan :confused3 ).

You aren't by chance trying to take over as the Official WISH party girl are you!! If so I better warn you, it's MINE!! Just kidding, but it does sound like one of my weekends. "Where'd that shot of Patron come from and why can't I remember anything after midnight last night!?"

People in Florida are nicer, don't you know?! I run at an old Rail Trail here in Jacksonville, and every time we pass someone we exchange "Good Mornings" or "HI". So much so that it is now instinct for my 2 year old to say it to everyone we pass on the run too!! It's just southern hospitality, even the cyclists do it right after they yell "ON YOUR LEFT!!" and scare the bejesus out of you!!

Dana
