Wk Of Aug 12 - WISH Walking/Running Club

GOOD MORNING TEAM!

Looks like everyone is training hard and improving their times. DH and I went on a hike yesterday, but had to cut it short after an hour, or so. We've been getting alot of thunderstorms lately, so when we felt the first few drops of rain, we high-tailed it back down the mountain. It's looking rather dark this morning too, so I'm not sure if I'll be doing my outdoor walk today. Thank goodness for treadmills. lol:rotfl: Have a great Wednesday!

Morning, WISHers!

I was planning on getting up at 7 and taking DD out running, but since I got a really poor night's sleep ended up sleeping until 7:45. I dragged DD out of bed and we did a 3 mile run together. (Still nice and cool - low humidity and it was still overcast then!) I should have run farther, but I really wanted to get her out and run with her so she'd have a good run. Believe it or not, she thanked me after we were done for making her do it! That girl can run forever with a soccer ball at her feet, but take it away and running becomes torture.

I made may ADR's for marathon weekend!  Got everything I wanted, too. My CM didn't know what "ADR" stood for, which I thought was pretty funny. Guess she hasn't had a lot of DISers on her line.

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

Good morning fellow WISHers! It is hump day, isn't it? Yeah! :cool1:

Yesterday went fairly well for me and training. I did get up early and ran 4 miles on the TM before work, then I ran 2 more before pump class (at between 5.6 to 6.0 mph). Pump class was than 60 minutes long......and I was tired! But, I do feel pretty good today!:cool1:

Maggie: Have a great time at WDW! I am sure your kids will be wild with excitment!

SWDave: I know how I felt after a 1/2 marathon and a six hour trip home....not my favorite experience!

Alladinsgirl: Good job on your 3 miles! I know about the hot gyms.....I end up looking like I just took a shower. I am not a mild sweater! I look like a drowned rat!

Jen: Good luck with the re-routing of your running pattern. I have to do that every so often ((((so I don't get so bored!))))) But, it has been so long since I ran around my neighborhood it will seem like brand new when I finally get out again! I miss it......the dreadmill is killing me!:headache:

PaDisneyFan: I hope that summer cold gets better soon.....I hate colds in the summer (they always seem so much worse!). Good luck with your LW this weekend.....it is supposed to be nice weather, though! :cool1: :cool1:

Good morning WISH Team.

I went out for my regular 4 mile walk on the hills. I managed a 13 mpm pace but the effort felt much harder. I guess I'm still a little tired from the race on Saturday. It was humid but not quite as hot.

Have a super day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Just a quick one as I have GOT to get some things done before I leave today. Off to Brockville, Canada tomorrow morning with Charlie's SCUBA group. It's a 7 hour drive for us so I have lots of CDs and books. I don't know what I'm going to do for four days, but I'll find something. Maybe count the hours until I can train again! :woohoo:

Good morning WISHers!

Nothing too fancy to report here. Last night I did an hour on the elliptical, (~5 miles total it said). This morning I got up reeeeallly early (4:30 :scared: ) to fit in a 6 mile run on the TM. I used a 10:42/mi (5.6 mph) pace, which felt pretty good until right near the end, when my timer seemed to start counting down a lot slower than it had been! Now I'm feeling a bit tired, but at least my run is done for the day!

I'm flying down to FL tomorrow for a wedding this weekend (gonna be the first time I've seen all my high school/college friends since I've lost 90 lbs...I'm a little nervous, to say the least!), so just trying to fit in my workouts while I can...probably gonna be a little busy party: with my pals once I get there!

Have a great day everyone, and keep on doing great with your training!!

Morning folks! Boot camp last night and it was a workout..!!

We had a six station circuit to go through in pairs. While one of us performed the exercise at the station the other would lunge, do curtsy squats, or jump squats. The stations included:
  1. Bicep curls while standing on a BOSU ball - standing on one foot if you could.
  2. Throwing a medicine ball over your shoulder (but not actually letting go).
  3. Step ups on a picnic bench while doing shoulder presses with 3 lb dumbells.
  4. Tricep extensions with resistance tubing.
  5. Push ups.
  6. Modified pull ups.
The first time through the circuit we did the exercise for 1.5 min, then on the second go around we did the exercise for 1 min. Today I'm definitely feeling a little tight in my legs and lower back. I figure that some ab stiffness should be coming on at some point because I certainly worked them hard yesterday between pilates and the ab work at boot camp as well...

Tonight I'm shooting for speed work with my boot camp instructor's running group.

Moonie and Judy -- Have a GREAT time!!!!
Moonie -- Congratulations on the weight loss! Your friends are going to be blown away!! And wait til you tell them about your training! :woohoo:

Okay, I am feeling soooo tired today and we have this 5k tonight. I am thinking I'd better start alternating coffee with my water! ;)
There were 829 participants in 2005 and in 2006 they only posted results for the first 524 but the race was even larger than 2005. My result last year was 45:06 and I ws the 459th finisher. It would be SOOO nice to see an improved time. Oh, and the weather last year was 76 degrees. About 7-10 degrees hotter tonight. UGH!!! I like hot weather wogging almost as much as Carrie likes hot weather running. ;)

Good Morning Team!

I feel like such a loser!! After running the 5K my knee and heel, I just gave up! Then I picked up "Marathons for Mortals" - the J. Bingam book - and it inspired me -

I've gone out there and did the "just go for 30 min" but it felt pretty good, so I stuck with it, going very very slow I did 3 miles - two days now!! I'm working on improving my "self talk" and was surprised at how much I could relate to the book!! (I so try and pretend not to be running if there is anyone - car bike etc) around!! I'm better now for reading the book!!

Hello all!!

Karla-- :welcome:

Heather-- :wizard: for a quick recovery for Kevin

ohMom-- If you're having trouble with getting into the groove when you start, try warming up a little longer before starting. It's a fine balance between enough and too much, I know. (And I'm the veteran of several runs and even a race after one/several too many and it does effect me. Mostly in terms of hydration... so that could factor it too)

Carrie-- Glad to hear the job is going well!!

Dona-- Congrats to you on DD's first day of college!!

Judy-- Glad to hear you'll be able to get back out and run now! Have fun on your weekend away!

Kim-- Congrats on 20 years!! Happy anniversary!!

Ohhh, I like that top. Not sure what I think about the pants...

Oh my. U-G-L-Y, they don't have an alibi. Hurts like a hangover. Seriously, if you ran up to me in those things, I'd pretend not to know you.... ;) :rotfl2:

CDCers-- Congrats on doing so well with the race in those conditions!! I'm so sorry to hear about the issues with the course and logisitics. I would think that a race run by JBR would be MOST racer friendly, but apparently there were some significant issues. :( It's good to hear that they are looking into improving the race for next year, but I think I'm going to reserve running that one for a couple years until I hear that things have improved.

As for me, well.... I'm in another LTO period. It's been a very frustrating couple of weeks around these parts for me, sadly. I'm finding myself doing a lot of reevaluating of stuff lately and that'll do nothing but get you down. :guilty: My training has been pretty awful too. I'm scheduled for an LR this weekend, so we will see how that goes. I'm still up in the air with respect to the Toronto marathon. I thought I was going to back out, but since I'm going to be making the trip anyway... then why not train double time and be ready?? I suppose it's another "run to Jesus" moment this weekend too... :guilty:

I can't believe we are SO CLOSE (less than two weeks) from the 20 weeks mark and "official" training for most of the full runners. Summer went by too fast, for sure.

Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

Good afternoon everyone!

Weird day today. Witnessed a traffic crash with vehicle rollover, driver entrapment, on the way to work this morning. Stopped, rendered assistance until the calvary showed up. The FD boys had to use the jaws of life and cut the roof of the truck off to get her out. The driver was awake and alert with no obvious serious injuries, but I'm sure she'll be sore in the morning. They actually caught the guy that caused the accident. So, that's a good thing.

I did find out one thing. My 12-hour antiperspirant only lasts about 30 minutes in this heat. :rotfl:

2.5 miles on the TM last night. I'm starting my premarathon training training. My running has been so on again, off again lately, I really need to get some mileage in. It's time to get with the program so I'm ready to start official training on 9/16.

Congrats again to our racers from this past weekend. Ya done good! :thumbsup2

All - Great job with the training! Keep it up.

I know I missed a lot of folks, but I'm way behind the power curve today.

Y'all take care. :)

Since the topic of the new running skirt/pant things? have come up I was wondering what most of you wear in the cooler months? So far I've only run in warmer months. I used to walk in the winter, but I don't think what I wore would work for running.

Yep, DH did get me the pink Helium 2 Fuel Belt for my birthday. I went ahead and opened it, though my birthday isn't until Sunday. :rolleyes1

I'm not used to running with anything attached to me like that, so the first part of my run this morning it bothered the crap outta me. After about half way though I was already used to it. :thumbsup2

I ran 4 miles this morning with an average pace of 10:55. Feet hurt for some reason when I started, but after about a mile they eased up.

DH is getting back in the swing for the RFTT. He has been running at night. It is so dang hot here.

Happy training to everyone.

OH! I forgot to mention I hit over 200 miles running this morning since I first started back in April! :yay:

Trying to catch up with a few posts way back on pg 4 & 5...

Jackie – Oh, I’ll be there in January! I am going to rest my leg for a week or so and then start training to train. Check out my signature – I just signed up for Indy!

Cam-I saw you and Lily (I think) cross the finish line! You were right behind my Mom and I was so excited to see someone I recognized. Thanks for sharing your story about the college students. That made me feel kind of young and in shape. :goodvibes

Gotta run (not literally of course, I'm still in recovery mode!)

That's cool..I can't decide between the 2 or 4 Helium...sometimes you just don't know if 2 is enough or if 4 is too much..

I hate, hate, hate them with a passion (cuz they aren't flattering) but I wear running tights. Since things tend to get pretty cold around here it is really the best. So far Sugoi tights are my favorites for comfort and warmth. I have a pair of UA Cold Gear tights, but they don't have a drawstring in the waist and I am continually pulling those things up on my run!

Hey everyone! I'm slacking on this lately but I blame it on the stomach bug!

I missed my morning run today because I forgot I had to leave the house a half an hour early. I ran 2 miles at lunch in around 20 minutes, I believe it was just over. I got back to the office and I was so red that you could see it through my white UA shirt. It was like I was sunburned. I've never been this red after a run before, I wonder if it's because I'm just recovering from a chest cold so my breathing wasn't great or just the sun. Oh well. I also can't seem to break that 10 minute mile so that's something I've got to work on.

Been busy at work gearing up for orientation for the new school year, I love working at a college but we're heading into our busy time. I have to go read and catch up with everyone now!

Boy, my mommy belly is going to look fabulous in a pair of running tights. :lmao:
