Wk Of Aug 12 - WISH Walking/Running Club

It is so great to hear about everyone's experience at CDC! It sounds like you guys had a blast! I am getting more excited for my first full marathon in September!

Yesterday was a bust for running, and X training! I was hoping to get to a Pilates class last night, but that didn't pan out at all. Fall baseball started for ds and dh was out of town for work, so Mom was on duty (((again!))). If they ever become big time ball players, I had better get a "hi Mom" on TV for all the work they put me through!!!!:rotfl:

I did get myself out of bed this morning to run on the dreaded TM for 4 miles before work, in anticipation of pump class tonight......I am never feeling good enough to run after pump! :confused3

So nice to read what a great time everyone had at the CDC with other WISH team members. Cool medal.

I have picked up a summer cold so no training for me yesterday. Will see how I feel after work and make the decision what I am going to do then as far as training.

Nancy

Hey all... just a quick post like always. No training to report from me, except packing for Disney... we leave on Saturday. Oh Wait, we are going to Ohio!!! Anyhoo, MY FOOT FEELS GREAT. I woke up this morning with no pain, and yesterday it barely hurt also. DH said I must have popped something (not likely, but no PF pain is a bonus in my book). So with 2 weeks off I think it will do my foot a world of good. Oh, but walking Disney may not!!! :lmao:

Carrie - I am so glad you like your job. I was thinking about you yesterday.

Mel - If you want to buddy up at the Marathon, let me know. Tho I do think we may have different corral placements because of the time we both put down.

Stephanie - I think DH may try videoing when we tell the girls. We plan to do it when we transfer planes in Ohio. I am so excited to see their faces. We have almost spilled it several times already and they still don't get it. We are lucky that HS Musical 2 is on Friday night, so they will watch that and I can pack all the Disney stuff like costumes and hats and stuff. Hopefully they will never notice.

Oh and I am a little disappointed with my pics of CDC. I have lost 15 pounds since January and those darn tights and waistpacks make me look like a balloon. UGHHHH... My goal is to lose another 15-20 before the marathon, hopefully!!!!!

Good mornng WISHers!

Well last night I was going to run outside while DD had soccer practice, but I wimped out and went to the Y to run on the tm instead. It was 98 and I decided there was just no reason to acclimate myself to that kind of heat! So instead of doing a 45 minute run, I had to cut it to 30 so I upped the pace. I kept a 9:30 pace for 3 miles and then did 1/4 mile at an 8:00 pace. I guess if I want to run outside I'm going to have to get up really early and get it done.

I have really enjoyed reading all the reports from the CDC; sorry it was a less-than-stellar experience as far the the race goes, but so glad the WISHers all got to enjoy each others' company in RL.

According to the widget on my computer, 72 days until we leave for ToT!

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

Good morning, team!! No training to report, I took a rest day yesterday. I have 3 miles tonight, I guess outside in the heat as the motor went out in our TM and I didn't bring anything to stop at Gold's. 3 miles isn't too bad to run in the heat, but 7 tomorrow may be a different story!!

Kristi--I signed up to volunteer for the full marathon. :woohoo: I figure I'll be there anyway, I'll be cheering anyway, so I might as well be useful, right? :)

Jen--You are so sweet, thanks for the great compliment. :goodvibes I know how you feel about hating running, I'm there right now. I don't hate running--I'm hating the long runs. Just can't get motivated. I think the training for 15 months straight and the 4 1/2 marathons and the 1 full marathon in 1 1/2 years is catching up with me. When do you leave for "Ohio"?

Moon--Sorry about your bike!!! That's why I stick to the stationary bike, I'm way too clumsy to ride on the roads.

Leana--You are a training machine!!! Wow! You are going to rock the marathon. How is your puppy doing?

Mel--I can't believe you did a 1/2 marathon, walked back to the hotel, got cleaned up, walked back to Soldier Field and then watched a soccer game in that heat. You get Super Mom of the Year Award!! I've done both John Bingham and Hal Higdon's plans. There are things I like about both and things I don't like about both. My main issue with Bingham's plan is the timed runs during the week. If you are out there for 60 minutes, what's your incentive to work harder, regardless of how hard you push yourself, you're still running/walking for 60 minutes. But if you have a 5 miler scheduled for that day, then once you get your 5 in, you're done, so if you are feeling good you can push harder, but if not, then let up and go slower--but at 5 miles you're are done whether it takes 60 minutes or not. Higdon's plan is very ambitious, which is why I switched to him, I wanted to push myself for Columbus. This week is my first "long" short run--7 miles tomorrow. I'll let you know if I like it. :) By the way, I feel great today, so nope, that's not it. ;)

Howard--Those cab drivers are crazy!! How we didn't get hit by that car, I have no idea!

Carrie--I'm glad you had such a great first day! And I have to agree, the Elijah running group was fantastic. They were the only spectators actually cheering on the course. I guess that's why Disney has volunteer screamers, to support the runners/walkers when the spectators don't.

Beth--I can't believe you do all those back to back workouts--running 4 miles and then a body pump class or pilates. You must be in amazing shape.

Ashley--What ever makes you get out and there and train is a great reason!!!

Angie--Good luck as you continue to train, I hope your back is feeling better and better every day. Send my congrats to Bobby on his 3 miles. That's great! :cheer2:

Has anyone heard from Tiff? I wonder how her DH is doing...

Has anyone heard from Tiff? I wonder how her DH is doing...

Yes, I wondered about Tiff and her DH a few days ago.

krista, thanks for the picture of the medal, it is great!

Mel, oh, my you went to watch a soccer match after the half-marathon? No wonder you were exhausted. That along with air travel would completely do me in! Hope you get rested up this week.

Carrie, thanks for the report. Sounds like you all had a great time. I am so glad you love:cloud9: your new job. You deserve it, but we miss you around here during the day.

Moon, congratulations on your 6 miler and your great pace.:cool1:

Howard, great time for those conditions! Ooo, the ice towel would have been a very welcomed sight at the finish.

Nancy, I hope you are feeling better, summer colds are the worst.

Jen, so glad your foot has recovered so quickly. You really must be taking good care of yourself. I agree with krista, your girls are adorable.:cloud9:

Renee, awesome treadmill work, you were flying with that 8 min pace.

Leana, I meant to comment on all your skirts! Good thing you are a training machine, so you can put all those skirts to good use.

Jackie, isn't this group great! Congrats on your goal to run the Raleigh full. I know I wouldn't have kept with it with the group.

Cam, interesting story about those kids at the Snickers bar booth. It is nice to get outside comments like that to show a person that training for half or full marathon is an awesome accomplishment.:)

Mel and Jen, sounds like you two had a great time together.

Angie, are still trying to decide about the Disney full marathon? It is 95% full and will probably fill within the next week or so. Good to hear about DH's run.

LittleMissMickey, you ran 17 miles yesterday and you have 18 miles on for this weekend?? OK, you are definitely a running machine!

Terri, great job on your 3 miles, the miles will really start coming now that you are back into it. Take care of yourself.:wizard:

Tricia, it is great when a person can think, oh, why not just throw in another few miles for a total of 8.:woohoo: Once I get within 2 miles of the finish of a long run is when I know I can do it.

As for my training, today is a rest day after my 16 miler yesterday. I will probably take the kids to the pool in the afternoon.

Colleen

Krista: I had to laugh at the comment you made.....:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I only wish I looked fit, and look like I work out......Alas, that's not the case. I do work out, but I don't look like it! That is one of my greatest wishes....that the outside looked the like the inside!

You would never know that I have my heart rate at 80% or over for 3 to 31/2 hours at a time! I am a true Penguin!

Beth

Good Morning Wishers

Did 2.5 miles this morning. I'm trying hard to focus on the miles and not obsess about speed (or lack there of).:rotfl:

I am starting to feel like I am getting some morning routine back after the arrival of "the puppy" for DS birthday.

We move DD to college tomorrow :teacher: this is her first year.

Have a good day.
Dona

Hey there team!!!!!

So glad to hear everyone made it back safe and sound from CDC.

I love those medals. Do all of the John Bingham events have that medal??? I jut have to have one with that saying on it.

Sorry I haven't personalized many of my posts this week or last but after next week life should get back to normal for me.

Kim

One week from today will be my first post-surgical training! YAY! :dance3:

Congratulations to all the DCDers! :thumbsup2 Sounds like the race had it's issues, but the WISH team did a great job and I am so very proud of every one of you!

I have to get my rear in gear today as we are leaving Thursday morning for Brockville for a four day weekend and I have a lot to wrap up before I go. :drive:

Yaaaa Judy, so glad to hear you will be able to start training.

Things must be healing nicely for you:thumbsup2

I hope you have a safe drive up to the Great White North!!!!!

Water question

Do any of you use camel backs (or similiar idea) instead of the belts? If yes, how do they work out for you? If not, is there a reason, other than personal preference?

TIA

Angie - I have a Camelbak and a Fuel Belt, along with a water bottle waist pack.

http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p...melbak+flashflo&origkw=camelbak+flashflo&sr=1
I have the Camelbak Flashflo - it holds 45oz and has quite a bit of room for cell phone, gels, keys for those long runs. The downside is that the waist straps seemed to need tightening up every once in awhile while the pack was still full. Easy to drink out of, but it tastes a bit plasticky, so Gatorade helps that problem. I think this is what I'll use for the really long runs (14 mi +). Drinking out of the tube is actually really convenient.

http://www.fuelbelt.com/fuel_belts/4_bottle.html#endurance4
I also have the Endurance 4 bottle belt. This one is a bit more comfortable as the belt is made of stretchy elastic. The downside is the pocket is really small, so I had to buy an extra pouch to add on. You can get extra bottles in a 10 oz size so you can carry extra fluids. The plus is you can carry water and Gatorade or juice. The downside is the fluids seem to warm up pretty quickly.

Honestly, I like both and I'll alternate between the two. I needed something to carry more fluids rather than a typical 1 or 2 bottle waist pack.

Mel - If you want to buddy up at the Marathon, let me know. Tho I do think we may have different corral placements because of the time we both put down.

That would be cool! I can always hop to your corral if needed, but not sure if one of us will end up red and one blue :confused3

What kind of intervals do you want to do? I liked the 4/2...can't wait to finish resting and try it out with training! Just not sure I can wrap my brain around a 6 min interval ;)

The soccer game was well worth it just for the expression on Kaley's face. It was like a dream come true for her, especially when we found the team staying in our hotel. I would definitely take a cab to the stadium next time instead of walking...we did take a cab back since I was feeling pretty rough which worked out well. He just waited for us to run in and get our bags at the hotel then took us to Midway. And maybe some seats in the shade next time...we had a great spot, 3rd row around what would've been about the 25 yard line if the grass had been striped for the Bears. I have a tan line on my right arm from where my WISH bracelet was

Hi, everyone!
Work is still incredibly busy (this used to be a slow time of year! :confused3 ), so I just wanted to compliment everyone on all the great training and say :welcome: to our newest team members.

I'll do a CDC trip report later with some awesome pix of the WISH team and the gorgeous city, but probably no time until this weekend. I can't believe DD heads back to campus Friday and DS is away at sleepaway band camp until Thursday night.

Howard and I are doing the Lance Armstrong 5k here in town tomorrow night. I will be doing it without any training between the 1/2 marathon Sunday (and all the walking afterwards), but just can't figure out how to squeeze anything in tonight. I do not have any expectation at all for a good time tomorrow night but the cause is good and I don't expect to be DLF, so that will have to suffice. ;)

Started a new 100 crunch/100 push-up streak (I hope) last night in the hopes of being in better shape by ToT. I will probably just try to maintain a training base for the next month and concentrate more on weight loss. Lily gave me some great ideas for new and interesting, targeted exercises (thanks, sweetie! ), so I'll add that to my nightly home routine in the hopes of being stronger for the next race.

Hey Team.

I'm so envious of the WISH fun at the CDC. I had a nice little race but no big WISH meet, I can't wait to see everyone at TOT.

Erica and I did a brisk 6 miles in the park today. It wasn't quite as hot and humid so very pleasent day. Erica wore her new WISH hat but I'm saving mine for competition days. If it has as much magic as the shirt, I will kick butt.

Judy, glad you are about ready to start training again. You will do wonderfully.

Cam, you are amazing with your sit-ups and push-ups. You have to let us know how it's working out. I have thought many times about doing that very thing.

Everyone nursing a summer cold, get better, summer colds are awefull.

Have a great day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Hello team! I had to force myself out of the house and onto the treadmill this morning. And I"m glad I did. The 4 miles went by fairly quickly, and I had a great talk with the center's trainer about running, shoes, races, etc. Then I decided to attempt the waterpark again with the kiddos after my workout. DS enjoyed himself for all of 30 minutes and then turned into Mr. Crabby pants. Good thing my passes are free!

Sorry this is a drive by from me--but gotta hit the showers, so we can go to the grocery store this afternoon--or we might be having popcorn for dinner.

Mel - When I get back to training after my short break, I plan to do 3/2 or 4/2. That was my first time doing a 4/2, so I can try that out. If we are in different color placement, I guess we can try to meet up when they merge. Now that would be interesting!!!

Cam - Welcome back. I can't wait to see your pictures. I need a copy of the group photo. Good Luck on your 5K!!!!!

Judy - ROCK ON with the training. Take it slow tho!!!!

OK, work is nuts for me. We are planning to have internet access at WDW so maybe I can finally catch up then. We leave on Saturday.

Hope everyone is well today! :goodvibes

I think DH ordered me the pink fuel belt helium 2 for my birthday. I'll let you know how I like it Pungodingy after my first run with it.

Hey, the Half is closed. (Did somebody already tell me this and I missed it?) And they put a little ticker clock on the website.

Now, if they'd just post a ToT map and the dates of the Minnie, I'd be all set. :rolleyes1
