Wk of April 6 - WISH Walking/Running Club

CarolA - I hate the cold (don't really know why I live in New England :confused3 ) and I never thought I'd say that I was thrilled for 41 degree weather, but I was. I just started running this January, so I've been bundled up during my runs. It was so nice not to need so many layers today, but I'm jealous of the warm weather in your neck of the woods.

Angie - That's quite a run you had in the rain. Amazing time, especially with wet, heavy sneakers! :thumbsup2

Martha - Are you doing the James Joyce? My DH has done it and says it's great. I had thought about it, but decided against it. I don't think I'm ready for a race yet since I just started running in January. Today I did my longest run ever, which was 5.4 miles. Plus, we're going to WDW from April 16-24 :woohoo: . I won't be running while I'm there (we have three little ones and I know I won't have the time or energy to run while on vacation with them) and I'll probably be exhausted when we get home.

Congrats to everyone who raced today!

Christa -

Claire - Congrats on just running for the pure enjoyment of it! It's easy to get caught up in pacing and split times and spreadsheets, etc...nice to see someone out there just running for fun! Yeah, it's a different story come fall/winter when Goofy training sets in :) If you take orange burst with a vanilla bean, could that be a creamsicle??

Cindy - Good luck at the ortho, I hope it isn't a stress fracture.

Julie - hello! Welcome to the weekly thread!

Kristi - congrats to you, Angie and Chad!!

Krista - Make sure Steve-O counts crib assembly in the team challenge...those things can be more taxing than a 16 miler :rotfl: Good job with the "supervision" though ;) GU report to follow...

Carol
- Nice job with the run despite the busy weekend....you'll have NO problem beating the sweepers :)

Kira - Way to go on breaking the 12 minute barrier!! That's quite an improvement in such a short time :)

Angie - Um..so...are you excited for the Minnie? :rotfl: Nice work getting the 8 in today despite the heavy rain! (kind of makes it fun sometimes though!) Are you going to do a 10 next weekend?

Martha
- Nice run teammate!! Kicking it in at the finish...nice work!!

Vic
- SNB on ESPN...nice! Can't believe the powerful Tigers are 0-5...

Amy - Ok, I know you haven't posted about it yet...but my secret spidey senses know that you had an "adventurous" run today. Good job just managing some miles despite that unforgiving trail. I hope your ankle is ok tonight, ice it if you need to. Shoot for a solid week of training and get that 10 done on your usual route next Sunday :goodvibes: Hope you're having a good night

Scott's World
- Well, I capped off a busy workout week with a 10 miler on the Silver Comet Trail. I did it in 1:28:34 (8:51) and felt good for the first 8, but struggled a bit through the last two...I'm going to keep the 10 mile distance on Sundays until I can finish a bit stronger, thus building a better base for Goofy. I tried the vanilla bean GU and liked it!! I did notice that it has MUCH less sodium and sugar than my previous gel of choice (PowerBar Gel), and still went down smooth. I think I'll be picking up some more of them for sure and slowly make the switch. I also realized that I think I'd prefer some sort of Fuel Belt for runs in the 10-16 mile range. Right now I've got a fairly bulky Ultimate Direction pack (the Solitare), and I just don't need that much water or space in a pouch. Gonna look on Ebay and in my local stores this week and see what I can come up with.

That's it for me!! Hope everyone has had a great weekend and best wishes on the week ahead!

BTW - I forgot to mention that I was wearing my original WISH shirt for the first time today, which is probably why I ran so fast!

When I got back from running my son (13 years old) pointed to the back and asked - in all seriousness - "I wonder how much the person who came up with the DLL >DNF>>DNS slogan got paid?" I had to laugh!! "Nothing" I told him, "It's all pure generosity."

Angie - I am familiar with those Florida monsoons! Yuck - good for you for sticking it out. I had a run similar to that a few months ago but it was also 37 degrees!:scared1:

Martha - Great run! I don't mean to rub it in - I'm just SO happy that winter is over!

Tracy - I'm glad you had fun at The World and were able to get training in too!

Vic - Hello!

Julie - I didn't used to hate winter, but I sure do now! We love New England (we go to Maine every summer) but I have told my husband that if we leave Philadelphia we are definitely heading south. Actually, we LOVE the Gulf Coast of Florida, and I keep looking at Real Estate in the Sarasota area!

OK - now I've got to get the kids into bed. See ya'll tomorrow.

Here you go team!!! WISH GEAR!! So exciting. And thanks to my DS for being a good sport and modeling the t - shirt.

YES I AM A LITTLE EXCITED ABOUT MINNIE!! :yay:

You got that right!

..After suffering cold after cold for 7 weeks this winter I finally felt well enough to run consistently then after two weeks I hurt my foot. I fear it's a stress fracture. I had xrays that came back negative, but I've read that you can't always see it right away on the xray. I have an appt. with an orthopedic on Wed, maybe he'll have a better understanding of what the problem is. In any case I'm not very positive about my being able to finish a 15K in one month's time. I'll try to build up my aerobic fitness on the bike and ellyptical and see how it goes come Minnie.

Cindy
Oooh I do WISH it is not a stress fracture. PD :wizard: that it is ok. Let us know.

Angie, great pic and DS IS a fabulous model! I'm excited about Minnie too!

I'll respond more to everyone later, I'm excited to offer my weekend report!

I went out Saturday for an 8 mile stroll. I had my Garmin all set and said I would not look at it until the about half-way point so I was certain of my turn around and not again until close to the end. I did what felt ok, pushing a bit, kept it to mostly a walk-slight wog at times. Well, 8 miles at a 14:35 pace. Whoa! for me. Gotta say though that the last mile was where I WISHed I'd have taken my water and nutrition. I had planned to stop at the car but I felt so good going past it at mile 6 that I just figured I'd go with what I had in me and walk it in if need be. That was stupid of me. I almost bonked that last mile. But I dug in, I got it done and I know Minnie will be ok so I will not worry about that for my performance any longer. I also did the 20 min Pilates dvd before going to bed Saturday.

I feel fine today. I went to the gym and did some pool work--25 minutes--hardly seems worth the trip but I knew I would not have much left in me for a longer session since it really takes a lot out of me normally and it has been several months since my last pool time. I’m going to try to make more of an effort to get weekly pool time in b/c it is so critical for me with training back to where I need to be. When I got home I also did another session with the 20 min Pilates dvd.

My Mom turns 90 on Wednesday and our family went to a restaurant and celebrated. I ate smart until the cake part. Mmmm.

THAT'S ANGIE? I thought it was Tinkerbell. Angie, you look like a pixie. That's a good thing!

Oh and nice uniform. I've found out already the visor makes me faster! Try it yourself. :thumbsup2

Cool that you passed on the yellow shirt to your son to start racing in. :rotfl: Boy he sure has grown up since that AVATAR picture!

Just a quick post since I am not thinking too straight right now. One of the little kids though it would be nice to get Daddy sick so I have spent the weekend figuring out if I was going to die or not. Of course I had to overdo it on Saturday which didn't make things better. Hopefully things will get better soon since I don't think I could feel any worse.

Bill

I don't think I'm ready for a race yet since I just started running in January. Today I did my longest run ever, which was 5.4 miles.

Julie First, welcome to the group (from an ex-MA born and raised person). Like you, I just started running in January. And I only did it because I decided to run the Minnie 15k in May (OMG-27 days away!). Deciding to run a race can be a real motivator! Congrats on your 5.4 miles. I am up to 7, and I know how good it feels to reach a new distance. I'm shooting for 8 before Minnie, but lately I've been feeling various new and un-exciting aches and pains in my legs. (Darn that hiking vacation to Utah!) Anyway, hope your training progresses the way you'd like. And everyone here will give you lots of encouragement.

Maura

(Oh yes, and I was nuts enough to sign up for the WDW half marathon before I have even run my first race! I can always walk it!)

Hi Team -

Oh Angie I wish I looked that cute in my running gear! You look READY!

Unfortunately, I don't have much to report today. I have been struggling with the running ever since ING. I can't mess around though cause CMM is only a three weeks away.

I did go see "Run fatboy Run" yesterday. It was not as silly as I expected. Some of it was quite funny. I didn't even mind the fact that it was very unrealistic - they made that part of the humor. Plus I have seen one of our own WISHers follow the exact same training plan for Goofy.....

Love hearing about al these great runs. Its almost got me motivated to get out the door.

Cecilia

Greetings Race Team -

It would really be nice if I could stop coughing. :sad2: Other than that I guess I'm feeling better. No training to report. :headache:

Kristi - YAY! :thumbsup2 I was thinking of you yesterday morning. I'm glad it went well.

Carrie - OMG that is FAB-U-LOUS! Wait for me at the Minnie finish line, will ya?

Krista - That Angie is a doll, isn't she?? :cloud9: And IRL she's so incredibly sweet too!

OriginalBill - Oh no.....Listen, the past two weeks I was a nominee for the "Most Dramtic Performance During a Near Death Illness". I'll nominate you for that same catagory. Oh you poor thing.

GOOD MORNING TEAM!!

Did my 4:30 am trek to the gym and did PUMP and a little core. I am happy to report that my back feels really good considering the beating I put on it last night.

You guys are tooooooo sweet. Seriously. But you have no idea how much I need it right now. Not feeling too good about myself, really wanting that job and regretting the decision I made a year a go when I got out of school. Anyway thanks for the boost. I have to get some work done but I wanted to pop in and say hi

Berfore I forget:

Duckie - :grouphug: So sorry about your grandmother.

ScoJo - You must be psychic because we so rocked that race! :cool1:

Jen117 - COngrats fro actually getting outside!

Kristi - OMG, you were NOT going to die on teh course. Congrats again!

Jeff - COol shot of teh memorial. nice Visor too!

OK, now to catch up with this week.

Ok, I only got as far as Craig's post, but I have to comment it triggered thoughts that put tears in my eyes. How special is it that we have friends that care so much about how we do? Starting a race with other WISHers and also knowing how many poeple are wishing us well from afar. FInishing and having dh be sure and bring your phone to you, because he knows there are WISHers waiting for texts. Getting to the boards and seeing congratulatory posts before you even had a chance to post anything.

EVery WISHer means teh world to me. I'm just thrilled to finally be sharing good news with all of you after having so many downers last year.

Huge thanks to you all! I can't imagine my life without you! :grouphug:

SOrry for teh sappy post. I'm just still really flying high.

A QUESTION:
Please don't think I am an awful person for asking this....Well here it is and I really would like advice b/c I don't know what to do.
I am planning on running a 1/2 mary on the 12th with sis. But I am thinking about running it bandit (not paying). If I did this, I will not take anything off the course (like drinks, food, ect). I will just run it with her and take pictures. When I come to the chip timing mats and to the end, I will not be running through. I am just there to run with her.
I am torn with this. On one hand, I am not running this except to support her...on the other, I do not want to steal a race by running it bandit. I have never done this and really don't know what to do. I have had friends jump on the course and help me through (and they did not pay) so that is my thoughts.
What do you guys think I should do?

Christa - An aweful person would nto eb having your dilema. If you were using anythign from the course, I would discourage you from doing it. The only thing that keeps me from saying go for it is that if everyone did it, courses would be crowded with non-paying people. That's likely a huge stretch, though. How many poeple really want to run a race where they get no real time and none of teh bene's from teh race? WHile I don't know if I'd convince anyone it's the best thing (I am really, really conservative), I would by no means think any less of you for doing it. In fact, your intentions are great. Your sister is lucky to have you. :goodvibes

Hey team!!

So I'm still fighting this crud but I was determined to crank out an 8 miler this weekend. I woke up on time Saturday morning but I felt like I had barely slept since my cough kept waking me up through the night so I decided to give the run a miss. Saturday was an insane day as I was hosting a wine tasting and tapas party so no running during the day... The party was a blast but when I woke up Sunday morning I wasn't feeling too much like running....go figure!

I did go bike shopping Sunday afternoon though! I bought a brand new road bike, my first bike since 1990! I'm hoping to start biking into work a couple of days a week.

And then finally last night, at 7 pm....I was about to post on my team thread that I didn't get my long run in....but I hated that feeling. I wanted to get that long run! So I quickly changed and headed out the door to run 8 miles in 1:31 or so. Hurrah!

Good afternoon, WISH teammates! :wave2: Remember me? I am so sorry I have been MIA (though I have been posting on the Buzz team thread!) I have been missing you all terribly, though I thank many of my teammates for keeping me updated on how everyone is doing.

:welcome: to all our new teammates! I LOVE knowing that the universe of lime green shirts grows in numbers and geographically with each passing week. How cool!:cheer2:

First off -- a huge shout out to everyone who raced or trained this weekend. There is so much effort on the part of our team that it would be impossible to congratulate each and every person.

Carrie -- awesome job on the PR.

Great job, Chad!!

Kristi - Having been the beneficiary of your never-ending smile and enthusiasm and energy during a race, I think I can say with some certainty that Angie LOVED every minute of sharing that race with you!

Angie -- I am so sorry you are having blister issues, but kudos to you for pushing through. :thumbsup2

Angie -- I hope the job situation works out for you, sweetie! Sending you boatloads of pixiedust: Oh, and I agree that you are absolutely adorable in your WISH gear. OMG! I can't believe how big DS is getting. Geez, he is gorgeous!

Krista -- so excited to hear how you are doing. Building a crib! OMG! I remember those days. How fun! :cloud9:

There is so much "new" here. I have been completely swamped with some new cases at work and one old one that may prevent me from getting to the Minnie weekend. :sad1: I alternate between crying about the prospect of not being there and thanking God for my wonderful career and continued employment. :confused3 Howard is busy with his last 6 weeks or so of grad school and will graduate on 5/31. :cool1: I know that he is really, really looking forward to training and racing more once he is "only" working. :lmao:

Speaking of cribs and babies and all that, we had the pleasure of spending a lovely meal with DDalmost20 and her very endearing boyfriend yesterday. They decided we all needed to spend time getting to know each other because they're "serious"! OUCH!!! I literally remember putting her crib together. I swear I do. My Dad and Howard put the crib together and then my Mom & I took over and put on the bedding. After it was all assembled we realized we'd forgotten the dust ruffle and Howard had to take the mattress out so we could put that on. See? I told you it was like yesterday. Now my baby & her BF are joking about a Disney wedding and an Alaskan cruise for a honeymoon. I am seriously NOT believing that much time has gone by. :scared1:

On to training. I've been trying to get to the gym for an hour at least 4 weekday mornings, which seems to work out better because I am at the office all too many nights until anywhere between 10pm and 1am and there is just no way to do a LR/W well after 4 or 5 hours of sleep. I damaged my eardrum/inner ear on a quick weekend trip to Denver in mid-March and haven't run/walk much while waiting for my equilibrium to improve. Finally, I got in 8 miles last night on the TM (pace just under 14:30), which was the furthest distance I've done since the marathon. I also did weight training this morning for the first time in maybe 10-12 months. I've lost a LOT of strength, but am looking forward to building it back up. I've been so freaked out at the prospect of re-injuring the trapezoid muscle that I tore in late September in a freak muscle pump class incident. ;) But babying it won't get it stronger, so I am proceeding with caution, but proceeding nonetheless.

Looking forward to keeping up this week. Miss you all! :grouphug:

OOOH CAM - I HAVE MISSED YOU:hug:

Christa Run that race with your sis girl!!! She is lucky to have you.
