Wk of April 6 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Aloha Jeff:  so sorry for your loss. 1 is hard enough but 3? I am so very sorry for you.

Angie: congratulations on the job!! Woo-hoo.

Cam:  how are you?

Carrie: you so totally rock! Awesome time and I knew you'd catch me!! Minnie ought to be great! Sorry Scott won't be joining us.

Cruella de Mom: so good to hear from you! How are you? I shall never forget how you stopped and walked with me on the marathon course. It was most wonderful of you.

Bill: REST and get better. Fever of 103.5!?!! :scared1: Definitely not a good thing.

Amy: :scared1: so sorry about your stonker. It sounds like doozie of a stonker!!!

Did 8 miles on the bike today and will run 3 miles tomorrow. I was hoping for a little bit more but have to be at work before the consultants get there.

Have a great evening everyone!!

Amy :worhsip: You are amazing. That is perserverance!!!!
Carrie  :cool1:  That is awesome about your race!!!! :cool1:  Thank you so much for all of the encouragement and advice.
Liz Can't wait to see you at the MINNIE.. Believe me, their support will do wonders!!!!

To everyone who asked, I will start Monday, April 21 and I am truly positive this will be amazing for me and my family. Have to put the cute DS model to bed talk to you guys tomorrow.

Jeff, sorry about your sad news. That is a lot to take in one day for sure.

Angie, Congratulations on the new job! I’m happy for you!

Liz, good job on your training and pace. You’ll do it!

Cam, it’s great to see you on here!

Amy, sorry about that stonker. From reading that it seemed like it was more than stonker.

Bill, take care of yourself. That fever is not a good thing. I’d have had you in the ER or cold bath.

I'm having a great couple of days! Did a fantastic 8 miles this weekend AND today it was a great 5k. I had a 5k pace of 12:45! I slowed in the rest of the journey for 13:07 pace and 3.43 miles tonight. Did Pilates DVD afterward too. It is cooler weather here and always easier for me at this time of year.

Yesterday got out and walked the farthest I have so far - 5.65 miles with a 16 min pace. Feel pretty confident that I'll be able to pick it up to keep from being swept at the Minnie. It'll be first time with the WISH team so certain that'll help, too.

:thumbsup2 You'll do great at the Minnie. It will be my first race and first 'adventure' with the WISH team, and I'm definitely thinking the WISH team is a huge help.

 Jeff, I'm so sorry for your losses.

 Angie, Congrats on your job!

:scared1: Amy, What a run! You are awesome to keep going through all the obstacles.

Now, I'm at the point where I can't remember the specifics of the rest of the posts. :lmao: You are an amazing group and I'm so glad I found you WISHers. :worship:

Mahalo everyone for the well wishes. Much appreciated, your messages helped me make it through the day.

Jeff - I'm so sorry for your losses. :grouphug:

Angie - CONGRATS!! I'm so happy for you! :yay:

Way to go Angie!!!!! I am so happy for you! COngratulations!!!!

Jeff - :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

BillF - You can't be TAHT sick to scheme like that! ;) Hope you're better soon, though!

Amy - SO sorry about the character building run. Yikes! Funny, I kept telling myself SUnday and yesterday to remember the feeling so I can feel better on those yuck days. :grouphug:

Kristen - You will be closer to al lof us by teh time we meet, but, yes, meeting everyone, seeing smiles, and getting hugs is priceless.

Lily - Could you take your trainign down a peg. You're making teh rest of us who didn't have surgery look like slackers. ;) So happy you are doing so well!!!

Liz - COngrats on your farthest run! I miss those days. Treasure taht feeling of accomplishment!

Christa - Hope that hi['s better soon!

Sharon - lol. SOmetimes it takes notes for em to keep everyone straight. It's teh thought that counts, though. ;)

Carrie's World: My muscles were screaming whne I got home, so I stretched f a long time. Still didn't really help. So, when Scott called to say he was on his way home and would not be running, I whimped out. I was very disappointed in myself. We were counting the half as more of a training run adn hopping right back into a version of the last 4 weeks of half training fro the Minnie. We decided to bike instead. Nt the wisest move, as our quads hurt most. We didn't think of that until we hopped on, though. At least we were moving. Then, I remebered that even though the half was a training run, we never run the day after a LR. So, we weren't being total whimps.

Only my quads hurt today. Hoping yoga gets me all better.

Happy day everyone!

Hi to all.
It's been ages since I posted over here. I read most of the posts---it's just hard to keep up with everybody. As always, you are such a supportive group of people and so good with sticking to your goals.
My DS14 ran in the St. Louis 1/2 on Sunday. He finished in 1:25:27! That put him at 72/9,900 people. We are so proud of him (and our other 3 as well). Just being in that environment has me so excited for the 1/2 in January. I looked for any WISH shirts, but didn't see any. He had just decided the night before the race to actually run it.:worship: As I keep saying, in addition to all of you, he's my inspiration.
My problem is, as much as I'm loving running, it's hard for me to get my long run in. I'm doing it every week, I just feel guilty leaving my husband with all 4 kidlets and heading out to do something just for myself. Does anyone else suffer with this guilt and how do you overcome it?
Take care all and stay strong.

I haven't posted here in a while! I do post on my Team thread, GO HERC'S HEROES!

I am so glad Spring is finally showing her face around these parts, slowly but surely. It was still in the 30s when we ran this morning but supposed to hit the 50s, maybe even 60s later. But DH wanted to run with me before he left for work so I put up with cold to run with him. :lovestruc

Actually I was supposed to start week 4 of the C25K today but decided to repeat week 3. DH could have moved on but did it again with me. I just didn't feel ready to move on. Week 4 scares me just reading it!

Duckie, I am so sorry about your grandma.

1st of all...your 14 yo did a 1/2 marathon in 1:25? WOW!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: He is FAST! Do you run with him?
2nd, Yes I understand the feelings of guilt when I leave my children with DH to run for 3+ hours. BUT, I have found doing something for me makes me a better mommy/wife. Something I do is get up way b/4 everyone else...that way (for the shorter LRs) I am home by the time they are getting up. That may or may not work out for you.
Good luck! It is hard to juggle everything.

Cindy: Some PD for the ?stress fracture? pixiedust: Take it easy for Minnie, at least you could walk and experience getting swept?? Maybe it counts as a "Magical Experience" since you're at Disney!

Kristi: Are you our official :cheer2: ? Good job! And dont you just love the wisdom that comes with each mile....arg. hehe "Epiphanies" just makes me think of Pumba!

Carol: Good job gettin the miles in!

Kira: :cool1: on the run! Some days just make it all worth the work.

Angie: Glad your calf is feeling better! :woohoo: On the job!!!!!

Martha: you ask what you will do in Fla heat and humidity.....Sweat! (and lots of fun!)

Tracy: Glad to have you back and that you had fun!

Scott: LOL Creamsicle I love it! We should start marketing little double packs of flavor combos hehehe Glad you found one you like.

Lily: Yay for the "stroll"! :thumbsup2 ....and cake is smart mmmm :cake:

All the sick WISHers Get better soon pixiedust:

Cam: :wave2: WB! Good job on getting the 8 miler in!

Amy: Oh wow that was a character building run! I wish I had trails (and hills) like that around here!

Christa: I've also run 20 miles of a marathon course bandit on accident (I've even got pictures to prove it :rolleyes2 ). LOL it was a small double loop marathon (with a much larger half) and when I would go past the water/aid tables the volunteers would about pounce on me to force food/drink into me (no matter that I wasn't in the marathon!). The course was rather sparse so I guess they were lonely! It was fun[ny] though.

:drinking:

I went on a 6 miler yesterday. Can't say I really pushed it at all, but it got the steps in. I'm about to go on a nice speed play, though it doesn't look like I'll have any rain drops to play with this week! Then I get to spend the rest of the day turning the Hobbit into a Readers' Theatre for my Folklore and Fantasy class final. Oh boy popcorn::

Congrats to your son!! That is awesome! :cheer2:

I'm a homeschooling mom. I know how important it is for me to have some time to myself every once in a while. My Dh is really supportive of this. How does your DH feel? If he is supporting you in your running then you are choosing to feel guilty when you don't need to. What you are doing is not harmful to your family. You are actually setting a great example that at least one of your sons is following! You are also helping yourself stay healthy and reducing your stress levels. And there is nothing wrong with a daddiy spending some alone time with his kiddos! So, you keep going on your long run and enjoy your time. Maybe you could plan something special to do as a family that afternoon/evening? You take care too!

Kristen

Greetings Race Team -

Hey, I have some training to report! :thumbsup2 OK it was just 30 min at a VERY pathetic pace, but I'll take it. Better than nothing! :rolleyes1

Did you see the article in RW for beginning runners? See the demo about using a foam roller for IT band issues?? OK, where all the clowns who were laughing at me with my foam roller now, hu???? :upsidedow

Kristi - Kristi! Wait! Slow down! :yay:

Amy - Sorry about the stonker but love that you call it a "character building run"! :goodvibes

Jeff
- Oh my...that is a lot of sadness in one day. I'm very sorry to hear about all of it and hope you find strength to deal with it all.

Angie! Angie! Angie!
You go girl! :yay: I am thrilled for you! :woohoo: FAB-U-LOUS!!! :cool1:

OriginalBill
- I had 103 also. I thought I was hallucinating. I don't need to do that again.

Lily - OMG you are totally booking! I'm so proud!!

Claire - Good luck today on your speed play and your Hobbit assignment!

Christa - Did you make any descisions on the half with your sis? What's up next for you event wise?? Did you switch out bike trainers? Was it you that had issues with the tire on your bike while using one? I'm in the market for one myself...any recommendations? Geesh, that's a lot of questions...sorry :rotfl:

Allyson
- Great to see that you and your DH run together! Are you guys doing the Half together too?

Tracey
- Wow, your son is FAST!! Congrats to him! Christa has great advice on trying to get out there early and get things done before the house wakes up...or maybe they could come with you and bike or something while you run??

Carrie - Great job again with the Half last weekend! You guys deserved a rest day yesterday, but good job biking anyway! Probably best that you did non-impact training anyway to let the joints heal a bit from the run. Hope the quads loosen up for you! (looking forward to hearing about your Minnie PR too ;) )

Lily - Awesome that you are having some good runs!! Such a confidence booster, isn't it? Looks like you are gonna be well prepared for the Minnie weekend! :goodvibes:

Angie - Congratulations on the job!

Liz - nice walk and nice pace!! I don't think you'll be swept...the excitement of the day along with the other people out there with you will lead to a faster mpm anyway IMO good job!!

OriginalBill - Hope you are feeling better!

Leana - Sorry, didn't hear what you said after I read "wine tasting and tapas party"..just sounds so wonderful! Anyway, super job with the runs!! And congratulations on getting that new bike!! I bought mine last July and LOVE IT...now that the weather is a bit warmer, it's so awesome to have biking available as XT. Hope the hangover is gone ;) and that you are feeling better this week!

Amy - I thought we were NOT doing the Everest challenge...why are you training for it? :rotfl: I simply love reading your reports as it seems that every run brings a new adventure for you (hmmm, does that mean I'm getting cheap entertainment at your expense?) Seriously, be careful please...only a few weeks left until the Minnie. (stick to the paved trail this Sunday, would ya?)

Scott's World - I successfully completed yet another Monday rest day!! Actually, I took the bike out a bit after coming home from work...I mean it was just sitting there, staring at me, saying "c'mon Scott, you know you want to ride real fast down the hills in your 'hood"...so I did just that. I didn't do too many miles, but did get the bike up to 39mph on the really big hill in my subdivision...that was fun! (Oh shoot, um...Amy...it' wasn't 39mph, it was only like 12mph..I swear...) Today I'll kick off another week with a 6 miler after work and some pilates later on tonight.

Have a great day everyone!!!

Scott - Stick aorund at the finish and you may get to see me after getting a PR. Then agian, you may want to run away. ;) I can be overlyhappy at times. ;) lol about your speed adjustment for AMy. Bad Scott. ;)

Judy - COngrats ont eh training. Please don't overdo!

Claire - Getting teh steps in is always avictory, no matter how you feel you did.

JustSmile - You are not doing this "just for you". You are getting healthier and that is good fro your whole fmaily. Not to menation, If mom ain't happy.... Seriously, your dh should encourage you to do this. You'll be able to be ther efor your family longer.

Allyson - Accomplishing teh scary weeks is the best possible feeling. Plus, that gives your more confidence when you have another scary week coming up. You can do this!!!

Morning team!

I had Fit Ball last night where I discovered I just CANNOT do push ups. Plus we had a pretty serious workout for our hamstrings, quads and abs. I'm sure I'll be feeling it later!

I rode in to work this morning, just part way for a nice 4.4 miles in. I still need to get used to the bike, most especially my "saddle" needs to get used to the saddle but I like how quick it was getting into work today. I'm hoping to run 3 miles over lunch, then the bike home today.

Um, so the bad news is I still have broncchitis. I don't feel too bad anymore thankfully, but there is still gunk in the chest so I am back on antibiotics and a puffer now too. The interesting thing is my running is feeling really good, so imagine what I'll be able to do when I'm healthy!!

Jeff - I'm so sorry for your loss.

Angie - I know I told you already, but I'm so proud of you! CONGRATULATIONS!

Scott - Thanks, I'm feeling better. Sounds like a great ride!

Judy - Yay, you got some training in! Hope you are feeling better.

Take care all and stay strong.

Tracey - First of all, hello to a fellow Mom of four! I think it is particularly important for us to get out and do things for ourselves - it sends a very positive message to our kids about being an individual and not just "mom." And if we don't we'll go crazy, which is not a good thing!!

And secondly - your son is amazing! Isn't it great when our children start to inspire us!

Angie - Congratulations on the job! That is just terrific. I knew it would work out for you.

And a quick hello to everyone else!

As for me - My Garmin came yesterday, so I need to get out and play with my new toy! It's going to take something to fit in my run today, but I'll make sure it happens.

Hi team!

I got up extra early and ran 3 miles. I needed to be at the office by 8:00 to get all my morning emails etc. done before the consultants arrived to give us a demo of what they've been working on. They were to be here at 8:30. At 8:22 I get an email saying they were not able to download all the components so there would be no demo at 8:30!

Somebody owes me caffeine big-time! I'm barely holding on at the moment! On the up-side, I've had 2 meetings either cancelled or rescheduled, so I'm actually getting work done! Hurray!

My run wasn't too good. I ran 7.25 miles on Sunday then biked 8 miles last night. My legs felt heavy so it wasn't good but it was 3 miles. I hope I will be OK for the Minnie! Believe it or not, I'm still a little burned out after the marathon training. I just can't get all worked up about running a lot. Sigh, poor me!

Judy: so happy to hear you got in a workout today. After the horrible bout of flu, take whatever your body will let you have.

Kira: have fun with the new toy. I've never been a Garmin user but many people swear by them! Enjoy.

Leana: take care of yourself! Don't overdo and relapse!!!

Scott: WTG on the rest day--makes us slackers look good!!!

JustSmile: congrats to your son. As to having your own quality time, you must remember that if Mom ain't happy, ain't nobody happy to you have got to get some time for yourself. You may feel guilty about it but wouldn't you feel more guilty if you don't get the exercise in and you start snapping at the family? It will also help them to realize that you are a person too with your own rights and needs. (OK, insert a picture of Martha stepping off the soap box).

Carrie: you shouldn't feel guilty about taking a rest day and letting those muscles stop hurting! You deserve it after your great PR on sunday!!

Time to look busy. Have a great day everyone!

Christa..Thanks for the nice comments about my son. No way do I run with him. I'm a 10 to 10:30 miler----he's usually a 6 or faster. He had a few intestional issues on the 1/2 and lost some time. I'm up pretty early on most days, but sleep until 7:00 on Saturdays. But, that's a great suggestion, if I get up a litttle bit earlier on Saturday, I could get the long run in without being gone when they're awake.:)
Kristen...I'll pass the congrats on to my son. Thanks! My husband is supportive, I think I put the guilt on myself. Staying healthy is my #1 goal right now and that time to myself is so important---you're absolutely right. Thanks.
Scott...He is a speedy one isn't he? Great idea about bringing the kids bikes along. Around here, it's hard because I run on some busy streets. But, on the weekends I go to a trail and they most certainly could ride bikes there.
Carrie...Your right, my running isn't just for me. My kidlets know that I'm a much happier person when I get my run in. My DH is supportive, but not into running. I'm trying to encourage him though. I think it would be fun to have running to do together.
Kira...Whew....did you ever think you'd have 4 kids? I didn't, but it's the best life ever.:) I'll tell my DS congrats and you're right, it's amazing when our kids inspire us. Have fun with your Garmin. My son has one and I'm always trying to "borrow" it.
Martha...I didn't consider you on a soap box at all. I asked for suggestions. When I run, I'm a much calmer person and tolerate 6 personalities in the household much better. I need to keep that in mind when I'm trying to squeeze in "just 1 more thing" before I run.
Thanks to everyone for suggestions, I knew I came to the right place for support.
